Is Anyone faced this problem too? - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hi, all. My mi8's notch looking too creepy on custom roms, if you zoom to the picture you can clearly see. But in miui it looks way beatiful and smooth. I want to switch custom rom but this thing is annoying me.Is anyone know how to solve this problem? Or who else faced this problem too.

It's not a problem, it's part of the rom. I'm pretty sure you can change that in havoc settings.

Google Clock app is laggy when using the stopwatch

anyone else seeing the laggy and jumpy rotating dot when using the stopwatch on stock google clock app?
what is that? poor coding of the software or cpu/gpu settings?
i tested stock M and also stock based Cataclysm rom and same thing on both with default kernel settings, nothings changed.
anyone knows how to fix it? i knows its just a little thing but its really annoying.
Why don't you just download timely? It works great and its an app/team of developers that have been acquired by Google. I don't even use the stock app.

Running stock M. I just tested all of the functions of Google Clock and all is smooth as butter.

ill give it a try but the reason i was pissed was that i thought to myself maybe theres an issue with the phone's hardware or even a software(kernel) issue.

thats what i was worried about, did you try to set lap;s every couple of seconds? cause the circling dot appears after you set lap's.
I'm on stock marshmallow and noticed the same thing when I just tried the timer and lap function.

thanks for reporting, least im not alone.
also tried the Timely app and it has no lag whatsoever, in fact it has much more animations in the background along with the circling animation so its definitely not the phone; just poorly written codes in Clock app.

Accessibility not working

My K20pro is running the latest MIUI.
When I activate accessibility, the little person doesn't show up on the navigation bar.
I think its a Bug in MIUI, does anyone have a solution?
Right now I have no choice but to use Q Beta.
Cheers
Cliff
I still cant figure it out, I'm running eu rom and still cant get it to work.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

If MIUI 11 turns out to be as bad as 10, which custom rom is the most stable?

Don't want to switch to a rom where stuff randomly stops working, so basically it has to be almost perfect. I guess Pixel Experience is the best currently? Does Google Camera work on every rom exactly like it does on MIUI?
Give me your suggestions!
>If MIUI 11 turns out to be as bad as 10
what's bad about MIUI 10? Also I just ot MIUI 11 and it's nice.

AOD not displaying any relevant notifications, awful notifications in general, Android System using the most battery(though this might be just me), bloatware(removed it via ADB but still), automatic brightness randomly blinding me at night in bed.
I put Nova Launcher just to bypass some of the horrendous stuff MIUI has.

Just removing the bloatwares will do for a while. But if you're gonna ask for a custom rom. It's good to install LineageOS. I've been using that ROM since I was in Zenfone2.
PixelROM has still too much bugs. And I think all the custom roms will be stable after a year.
I haven't found any custom rom to be stable unfortunately.
Miui 11 is a tad better than Miui 10. But not by much. It's still got the terrible notification system, poor recents layout and overly complicated settings (thank god for search).

You have a very narrow definition of stable.

Most of the ROMs are stable, however none are without some minor issues, but nothing that stops them being used as a daily. Couldn't comment on all of them, but it looks like the Oxygen OS ROM is the only unusable ROM.
There are a few that are all at a similar level, with PE being just one of them.
My suggestion is look at the ROM threads that are the most active, as they're going to be the ones with the most users, which implies they're the ones with the least bugs. After that it's personal preference as to which you choose.
Unfortunately there isn't a perfect camera solution for custom ROMs yet.
To get the best out of it, you will probably need both GCam and ANX camera installed, as both aren't perfect, but their issues don't overlap much, so between them you get almost everything covered. There are many threads that discuss which versions of each work best.

They have fixed the notifications on AOD and I agree with the bloatware problem and automatic brightness problem. Battery life is better in miui11, at least for me.
I think the most stable 3rd party rom for this device is either LOS16 or Pixel Experience based on 9. I think they will soon all move to android 10 (Official builds) before 2020. But I haven't tried any of them.

Try this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/development/rom-evolution-x-2-2-t3975157 it is as PE but much better.

General Stock vs XiaomiEU smoothness experience.

Guys i recently jumped from stock Chinese to XiaomiEU. I noticed that the phone became laggy with animation.
This thread for those people who actually tried both choices (stock/XiaomiEU stable/beta)
Besides animation with micro lags on opening apps (a specially if they closed in recently menu) there is other weird stuff, example YouTube started to lags in scrolling. Google keyboard sometimes comes up late. Phone after restarting laggy first 2-3 min.
I switched back to full Chinese stock and im shocked how quick and smooth this phone is !
Please share your statistics if you switch from XiaomiEU back to stock.
In my opinion (with full respect to developer) stock debloted root it rom with adaway bringing you a Pixel smoothness... however I can't say similar about EU rom...
Regards
Yes I noticed it's not as smooth as well like not 120 fps all the time while navigating. Also noticed the YouTube scroll lag. If you turn on show fps in developer settings when you load up the YouTube app it drops to 60 fps only.

I tried everything Stable and Beta, weekly... factory reset it many times.
Stock(debloted/rooted/adaway) 12.5.4 just destroying with speed and smoothest !
I am planing to move to xiaomi.eu as I use android auto most of the times. But the above comments lead me to think twice..
I might keep my CN rom..

Move it for experience and for fun. Comeback later and vote it.
I noted the same thing, but it's not that big of a difference. I also have a question if your main screen starts lagging when you wake up the rear screen?

Oh I read above you had lag with animations on Xiaomi.eu ROM. Im now in waiting period until I unlock my bootloader but I will install Xiaomi.eu after unlock, do you know if GetApps is installed on Xiaomi.eu?
Definitely download getapps as your system apps won't update without it. The EU rom should be coming with it, it shouldn't be deleted it's imperative.

I just finished installing but do not have getapps..time to Google it..
Yesterday, I manage to complete the task of intsalling xiaomi.eu ROM. At first it felt slow but looks like I was spoiled by 120hz on Chinese version. After changing back 120hz, it feels much better.
I will not vote yet as I am stil catching with my apps and awaiting first stable update to see the update process before making any decisions.
All in all, the main reason for this change was android auto for me. I tested and working which makes all this hassle worth for me. I will revert in due course about the smoothness...
Is There still a difference in speed and smoothness or has it leveled out by now ?

Question picture-in-picture problems

Hi there all,
As I assume more people than me has the same problem as what i´ve got. Picture-in-picture just doesn´t work properly, there are some "fixes" avaialble - like running i.e. youtube in a chrome window and have that run pip.. but that´s not really what i´m looking for.
Has anyone gotten pip to work properly on miui 12.5? And if so - how did you do it?
cheers
It's working perfectly fine for me. What is your problem exactly? If you mean YT specifically and the official YT app then you need a premium account for that to work. Or you can just use Vanced instead.

It's a general problem, but yeah... I'm on vanced. The problem is with all PiP enabled applications, the player just shoots down att the bottom of the screen.
"the player just shoots down att the bottom of the screen" - what do you mean by that?
Does it close when going into PiP mode? Cause if it doesn't and just goes into PiP and the is placed at the bottom right corner of the screen then it is just normal behavior and you can move it aroun by just dragging it and placing whrever you want.

I mean that the player ends up below the screen so to speak... really wierd.
OK that is weird. Are you using a 3rd party launcher with some sort of a method to hide nav bar and use 3rd party gestures? Have you checked if PiP is on in the settings for Vanced? Privacy protection>Special permissions>Picture-in-Picture
I think I just will accept the drawbacks until we get twrp and more custom roms

To be clear, I used both global and xiaomi.eu version of 12.5.10, only eu rom has that bug, so prolly it's up to the eu team to fix it, not xiaomi.
