Can't install anything - TWRP crash, bootloops after installation and so on - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello to all.
So, I have the N950F (international Exynos) which generally works fine, but It started being weird for some reason. I installed TWRP on day one, used IronMan ROM since day one and everything worked. I still use IronMan 2.0 (Oreo) since I don't really like the One UI, and I debloated the ROM piece by piece until I overdid it and the Contacts app stopped working properly. When I tried reinstalling (with a full wipe), TWRP crashed and the device would bootloop, so, as usual, I redownloaded the zip (and verified checksums), and the exact same thing happened. As it turns out I can't install anything on the device, TWRP crashes on installation every time and the ROMs bootloop.
Observed hint: the installation always crashes on steps related to the boot image, regardless of bootloader version installed.
Steps taken: tried every available TWRP version (including unofficial ones), tried different bootloaders, tried different ROMs (Oreo and Pie), tried flashing with full wipe and dirty. The problem persists.
After the installation crash I sometimes get "E:Legacy property environment did not initialize successfully. Properties will not be detected.". Subsequent attempt results in Aroma claiming the ROM is for greatlte and current device is "" and stopping immediately.
backup/restore in TWRP works fine which turned out to be my saving grace.
Enclosed are TWRP logs including a large last_log from /cache/recovery and a screenshot of current system version (but the problem persists on every bootloader/system configuration). I went through them, but couldn't find anything relevant, so any help will be greatly appreciated. I might be just dim and missing something obvious.

Some solutions:
> Firmware reset via Odin. There's a few guides on how to do that, it should fix your issues.
> If you get into TWRP, wipe your directories, mainly ones like /data, and reboot back to TWRP. Not system.
> Try a different rom/zip.
> Try older versions of TWRP if you can. TWRP is recovery.img, not boot.img, so it shouldn't be crashing unless you bonked up recovery.img. You could try flashing the stock one, or flash stock via odin again.

Bootloop after root on Nougat 7.0.0 NBD90Z

Hello there!
I’m currently the newest Nougat image (7.0.0 NBD90Z). Before flashing to this version I was on the latest marshmallow image (6.0.1 MOB31H). Initially I dirty-flashed the image, keeping the data partition intact.
However, after I tried to root the phone with SuperSU 3.78 SR1 via TWRP recovery I got into a bootloop. After restoring stock again, I backed up my data partition (nandroid backup) and did a clean flash. On the clean ROM rooting works just fine - when I tried restoring my data partition after root was up the phone got into a bootloop again.
I repeated my experiments with SuperSU 3.78 (non-SR) and 3.76 - same results.
It seems the phone gets stuck quite late into the booting process since it is detected by my PC and listed under adb (as offline, mind you).
I don't even know how to begin to analyze or debug this problem since rooting and even dirty-flashing between major versions has been working for me since Nexus 4 / KiteKat times.
Letting go of all my userdata (at least entirely) is not an option.
Any ideas or directions how I could proceed into tracking down the problem?

WiFi problems caused by Magisk ?

Hi guys,
i tried some Roms for my op3 (sultans 14.1 / OOS OB) and always got WiFi problems, when installed Magisk + some modules. (Google Assistant Enabler and Dolby Atmos Lenovo with audiolib v4)
Running Magisk alone, it did not has problems. Also it seems that the problems came with Android 7, but unsure.
Could only be fixed by clean flashing the rom (dirty flashing and uninstalling Magisk did not help).
Someone can explain, how it is possible?
kmsg was something like wifi couldnt suspend device, and did a random reboot. before it rebooted it could not connect to any WiFi-network.
if needed, i can add some more complete logs
Code:
[ 324.876840] PM: Some devices failed to suspend, or early wake event detected
[ 325.063045] legacy_suspend(): wiphy_suspend+0x0/0x68 returns -11

Remove all modules and reboot into recovery.
Wipe caches and reboot.
I have found that I can end up with WiFi, Bluetooth, SIM issue if something happens with the modules.
Before I figured out what it was, I was re-installing the ROM, etc.
Try just deleting the modules and wiping the caches and rebooting.
@tech_head
Thanks for your answer, but this was unnecessary.
I did not ask for a solution to resolve this on my phone, but a explanation, how Magisk(+modules) mess with kernel/firmware or something.
If you read the whole post, then you would have seen, that it was fixed by clean flashing the Rom.
Thanks anyway.

Hi,
I actually did read the whole post and was offering a solution that DID NOT require re-installing the ROM.
I'm not 100% sure why the problem persist but I have seen it affect Bluetooth, Wireless and SIM recognition.
Typically it happens after a reboot. Wiping the cache on my phone causes it more than 50% of the time if I don't disable modules first.
I don't know why it happens but you are right, removing Magisk does not solve the problem.
There is something corrupted in the data partition and the only way to clean that up is to remove the modules and wipe the cache or do what you proposed.
Nevermind
I recently had the same problem. I'm currently trying to fix it without reinstalling. I've uninstalled all modules, cleared both caches and still no wifi and I'm getting random crashes. Has anyone found fix a reliable fix?
While posting, I tried resetting my network and everything started working again. If this happens again, I'll try that first.
BTW
Also, it happened after a failed installation of Crossfire and Tethering, both thru Magisk. Tethering actually installed but after the reboot, I've got no wifi.
I was able to fix the wifi problem by following this tutorial: https://************/root-razer-phone-fix-wifi-root/
But: JUST UNTIL INSTALLING TWRP INSTALLER. Until this step I got a working wifi (I am on Android Pie Custom rom). After flashing Magisk v18 or v19 same problem as before: No more wifi. Su installer does not work on my Razer Phone 1 ( failure while patching sepolicy, no permission ), so what to do? Any hints?
Best regards and thx in advance

Ugh. I'm having the same issues after upgrading to canary channel Magisk 20.4 on my Razer Phone 2. My WiFi was rock solid on the previous version, but for some reason my WiFi now flashes on and off like a strobe. Weirdly, it doesn't seem to have the issue at my house, but it constantly craps the bed at my work. The work connection is 5Ghz and my home one is 2.4Ghz, so that could be a difference. However, before my attempted upgrade, both worked perfectly.
I tried uninstalling my Magisk modules, flashing the Razer stock boot image, wiped Dalvik cache, flashed Arter/TWRP boot image, Arter kernel zip, Magisk 20.3 stable and reactivating modules. No change at all. WiFi is still garbage.
Are you telling me I'm going to have to flash the entire stock image and wipe my phone to get back full functionality?
im having the same problem, on miui i tried tp downrage magisk, that worked. currebtly searchin best way to downrage cause i forgot what i did. but if anyone stuck at this problem:
Without data wiping (luck method):
Remove modules
Reboot into recovery
wipe caches
reboot
done
Downrage magisk (maybe not fix):
Uninstall ALL modules
Delete Magisk from the app
flash downrage magisk
(eg. uninstall 24.1, install 23.0)
wipe caches
reboot
done
Data wiping (i forgot about should we flash magisk via magisk app with recovery mod on, if this dont work try enabling recovery mode):
Just Re-install Magisk via recovery
Clean everything BUT leave boot not wiped
flash rom WITHOUT boot
let it 10-30 minutes booting
go to recovery
flash rom's stock boot
reboot
finish rom's installation
install MAGISK APP
confirm additional installation
reboot
done

[RESOLVED] TWRP 3.2.3.1 bootloop?

The newest TWRP 3.2.3.-1 does not let me boot into ROM, just brings me back to TWRP again. I have to restore a backed up boot image (with 3.2.3-0) to boot normally. Even flashing TWRP 3.2.3-0 in TWRP does not bring me back.
Anyone else having experiencing this? I have attached my recovery logs.
I was on stock ...and just install los16 without problem... So i dont have problems with TWRP.
Resolved.
After dirty flashing the ROM zip/GAPPs and flashing TWRP, I was able to boot successfully. I Then just saved a new backup including the newest TWRP.
It is strange that just flashing TWRP would make the OS unbootable.

There is always a risk when flashing your device. One of the reasons why I prefer to flash using Linux was that Windows would have so much going on in the background that I risked the data transfer being corrupt. That said, if you're using Windows, I'd close all programs and especially disable any anti-virus running in the background. Sure, Linux may have a few things running, but I have always found it did a better job multitasking resources than Microsoft Windows with a fewer chance of data loss.
It is probably because after installing Google Apps, your /data partition gets corrupted.
So after installing Google Apps, go to TWRP > Wipe > "Format Data" & reboot.
I've the same problem & this resolves the issue for me.
For me, this did not help. I had to reflash everything from bootloader.
Funny thing is: it just has downloaded and installed an OTA update. With open bootloader.
I ran into this issue yesterday when a bad flash caused the infamous "no bootable A/B" error. After I resolved it and install TWRP I kept being rebooted back into TWRP. The 3.2.3-0 version resolved everything. I really do believe 3.2.3-1 is a bit buggy. I mean it works, but once you really start to use it more than the average user, you start to notice little things.
I too had this same issue. Eventually realized that updating TWRP by flashing zip from TWRP caused it. I had to flash stock boot partition, then follow the process for flashing TWRP as if you are flashing it for the first time (first boot into TWRP and then flash the corresponding zip). This resolved the issue.

Galaxy Tab S2 not booting properly.

Hello everyone,
I recently wanted to root my galaxy tab s2 and install a custom rom on it to enhance performance, someting i've done before with my old phone where everything worked fine. So i used autoroot to root the tablet which worked fine and choose to install lineageos afterwards. i found a fitting version of lineage on their official website, installed twrp on my tablet and used it to install lineageos and GApps. However i did not unlock my bootloader using adb since i didnt have to do that back when i rooted my phone and i read on a forum that unlocking oem in the developer settings would be enough. This is where the problems start. After i installed the custom rom the tablet would try to boot into the os for a couple of minutes only showing a loading animation just to boot straight into recovery mode afterwards. In an attempt to fix the error i used odin to install a stock rom from sammobile on the tablet. However now it doesnt even boot into recovery anymore. instead it only shows the stock rom loading animation until the battery emptys. Though i can enter download mode from that position and then cancel it in order to reboot the device which enables me to enter recovery mode. Does anyone have an idea how i could boot a normal os again or is the device hard bricked? The only idea i have left is trying to install a new os from an sd card.
I have the same issue. I installed unofficial lineageos 16 to exynos 2015 t810. I have newest odin and twrp. Im wondering if i need to install or unlock the bootloader to get past the logo loop then recovery bootup after 5 minutes. I followed clean tutorials.
Update: i found this to try.

I am doing a full clean install every time (over 10x so far) but only get it to boot using the ROM alone. Any mod, such as addonsu, gapps or even trwp app cause it to show the Lineage boot screen for quite a while until dropping back into TWRP. Since there is a virtually infinite amount of permutations which versions to try - can someone who is successfully installed 16.0 with Gapps on a T710 let me know their version combination please?
Thanks.
pico-20191009 is giving problems with the 1009 build on my T810 too. Pico-20191006 and Magisk 19.4 are doing the trick for me.
Don't know about other combinations
BTW, it's advised not to install the TWRP app as it is known for causing bootloops on this rom.
Don't know for sure, but wiping internal storage before installing rom might be useful too.

Trouble flashing any custom ROM

Edit: Figured out the missing step! Wasn't mentioned on any guide I read, or if it was, I'm afraid it wasn't clear :'( Hopefully this guide helps other people though, I've highlighted the step I added!
Hi Mi9 Forum!
Longtime S7 user here, I've flashed (literally) hundreds of roms over the years, but unfortunately lost my device so switched to a Mi9 (Which is ****ing huge!)
Earlier today, after the (arduous 1-week wait) I unlocked my phone (now reads unlocked on boot up), and set about testing three different roms.
From what I understood, I needed to flash a Vendor image before the actual rom itself, so I installed TWRP, flashed the vendor image, then tried flashing the ROM, but alas, I got kicked back to TWRP.
The steps I've taken a listed below, perhaps I've missed something obvious, or not so obvious, but any help would be appreciated!
UNLOCKING
Unlocked phone with Mi tool (Reads unlocked on bootscreen now)
Booted into Fastbook (Vol down + Power)
Plugged in
Used MinimalADB to push TWRP (3.3.1.42) onto my device
Unplugged and rebooted (Vol up + Power)
Plugged back in and entered into TWRP (Huzzah!)
Pushed two files into my "/tmp/" folder, these were xiaomi.eu_multi_MI9_V11.0.2.0.QFACNXM_v11-10.zip, and Magisk (V20)
Went to Wipe > Format Data > "Yes"
Back to TWRP Home, went to Install, and installed the xiaomi.eu mentioned above, then installed Magisk
Once both were done, I restarted, phone loaded up perfectly fine, and had Magisk installed
It was at this point I decided to try a custom rom:
CUSTOM ROM
Booted into TWRP
[*]Selected to Wipe > Format Data > "Yes"
I wiped System, Vendor, Data, Cache, and Dalvik
Pushed the Vendor 9.8.1 file into my "/tmp/" folder, along with whatever ROM I was testing (Tried with Syberia project, AOSPExtended, and ResurrectionRemix), GAPPS, and Magisk
Flashed the Vendor file
Flashed the ROM
Flashed GAPPS (Where it wasn't included with whatever ROM I was testing)
Flashed Magisk (This began giving me ERROR-1 here, even though it was exactly the same file that worked fine earlier.)
Once all that was done, I restarted the phone, it booted up fine, I saw the "Mi" bootscreen along with the "unlocked" at the bottom...Then the phone restarted.
It went to the same bootscreen once more, before restarting once again, and kicking me into TWRP.
I've tried it several times now, with different roms, both with/without installing GAPPS/Magisk, but I always get the same result.
I've been on these forums for a while, I know usually people post without reading, but that's not what I've done, I've read up on what to do, downloaded all the necessary (I think!) files ahead of time, and documented everything I did (in-case of a cockup!). So yes, I really have tried, and I really have searched
Any help, or direction, or hints, or magic wishes anybody can give me regarding this would be much appreciated!
same problem happened to me
i face the same problem every time without any solution i can only flash miui roms not aosp roms?

Using the above steps, I have been able to flash AOSP, and Miui roms.
Though I always go back to Miui because it has the best camera app.
