Google home routines and Spotify playlists - Google Home

Hi,
I've been having some issues with my Google home mini, routines and Spotify playlists. I will share them here hoping someone knows how to resolve them or to tell me where should I post these bugs for the Google developers team to solve them. I could not find a direct way to reach them and I'm a heavy user so I think I could collaborate.
Issue 1: more than two commands not working
You once could create a Routine that went something like "play my x playlist in shuffle mode on my x speaker" in one command line. It did work but now the shuffle mode won't be read so the playlist will play in order.
Work around: set all speakers in a group, set that group as the predetermined speaker on Google home app, create a routine that sets specific volumes to each speaker in the group (so if you want only speaker 1 to play you set all other speakers in 0% volume), and only state "play playlist x on shuffle mode".
Issue 2: Playlist and their names not updating
If I create now a new playlist on Spotify (I have a premium account and set Spotify as the predetermined music player on Google home app) and say directly or create a routine saying "ok Google play my "new" playlist" it won't work.
The same issue happens when you rename an existing playlist. It won't find it.
At first I thought it was a cache problem, so I deleted the cache in the home app and once it did work but not it does not.
No work around for this other than don't rename you playlists but its ridiculous.
Do you know where the home mini saves its cache? Other than goggle home app?
Thanks!

Not sure if you have found ways to resolve your issues, however I've found some things concerning the playlist not being seen.
When I create any new playlists in Spotify, I've found they are default set to "private" and not "public". They used to be set to public as the default.
Once I go in and change them, I've been able to play new lists with little issue (besides names being recognized).

Change shuffle order?

Has anyone else noticed that with either Windows Media Player or the HTC Audio Manager, it will always use the same shuffle order? Doesn't this defeat the purpose? Anyone know how to get it to "reshuffle" with every play. I am getting tired of hearing my play lists in the same order everytime.

Amen, thought I was the only one who noticed this!
Yes, surprising isn't it. Even a using a search on all forums didn't turn up this same question. I think this is true for Wondows Media Player on all devices, or at least the one's I have owned. Would be nice is HTC could provide a shuffle option that actually shuffles with the Audio Manager. Perhaps they should call it "Reorder" instead of "Shuffle".
Just searched and this is the only thread I could find on this problem.
My media player doesn't actually play the library in folder order, but seems to shuffling only a few songs on the list.
Is playing them from the library the only option? - you can play only one song at a time when accessing the music folder with windows explorer.
to "reshuffle" have you tried turning off shuffle, selecting another track, playing it, then turn shuffle back on.
Thanks for the suggestion - yes I've tried that, but it just seems so hit and miss with the Windows media player and the shuffle play seems to repeat a few tracks too often.
I've now installed MortPlayer and it's working great, so I'm not going to bother with the WM player now.
Thanks.

Yes, this is my half baked solution. I just scroll down and start a few songs later in the list as it is sorted via the playlist. It still does not "shuffle" though, just puts me at a different point in the (properly termed...) reordered playlist. If it's a short playlist though, you will figure out pretty quickly that the songs go in the same order every time, you just started at a different point.
In computing, the random doesn't exist, we can only approach it by simulating.
You won't never get a "real" shuffle. When you select this mode in WMP or HTC audio manager, it follows an algorithm, that's why you always hear songs in the same order with the same playlist. The best way is to change your playlist.
I hope this explanation is helpful and clear, and if somebody can give us more details on the subject, don't hesitate (I like learning more and more )

I hear what you saying regarding computers not being good at random, but I can tell you that this MortPlayer is doing a damn fine job of it.
I think that these workarounds with the playlist are a poor reflection on WM media player - I have about 1.5G in my music folder and MortPlayer can shuffle the lot without the need to first create a playlist.
I didn't say that you need to create a playlist. On the contrary, more the numbers of songs is high, more the order in which you will hear its is changing, because the probability of finding the song "m" on a sample "M" diminishes when you increase "M" ( "M " can be a playlist or 1.5 GB of songs)

I have no way of testing anything like this but what came to mind while reading your post was this:
Uninstall Spotify
Disable Google Play Music
Reboot
Download Spotify apk from apkmirror.com
Copy name of Spotify apk without ".apk"
In /system/app/ (same location as Play Music) create folder with the name you copied
Copy Spotify apk into that new folder
Change folder permissions to 0755
Change apk permissions to 0644
Reboot

Why would sideloading spotify help in this situation? It wont.
@leekene, are you running a stock rom or custom? Also try going to settings>apps and goto google play music and push the "clear defaults" button and see if that helps.
cheers guys i tried that before with the clear defaults. i think the issue is google play is the default music player, where spotify is just an App on a phone that allows streaming. so when the car requests music it will request the music player which is understandable but in my mind there must be something i can do to boot spotify instead.

/system/app/ instead of /data/app/.
Get an NFC tag and write it so when you get in your car, just tap the tag and have the bluetooth connect to the car and then open Spotify.
This is how I have it set up in my car (08 GTI) with Pandora.
Or, use Tasker and build a profile that will do it by voice commands via Autovoice.
I use an app by Sony called smart connect, it will auto open/play any app or tracks based on Bluetooth device connection or aux connection. Ex. I turn on my work Truck, it will connect to the Bluetooth stereo open Google music and play the last track. Plug in headphones and it will open Netflix for me (only reason I would use headphones personally). It also allows time triggers as well.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
disable play music, use poweramp. bluetooth settings in poweramp has an option to auto play music upon bluetooth connection

Google Home For Music Lovers

I was surfing through web for several weeks for a thread specially for Google home mini users keeping music lovers in mind. I am a heavy music listener myself originally from India. But I am having a hard time to manage music with Google home mini including Google play music, Saavn , and gaana. I cannot play my playlists or create the same with these providers. I can tell Google " l like this song" and it will respond that I have noted you like this song. But after that I cannot access these lists anywhere. I want to discuss these things with similar users and want to found how they are using their Google home to their advantages.
Thanks
For me, "Add this song to my favorites", and "Play my favorite songs" has worked.
(I'm not sure if it's added songs I've just happened to listen to a lot to the same list, as often asking for a genre will simply play the most popular songs on youtube before I ask it to shuffle, leading to a number of songs that've had countless plays)

Spotify won't play my custom playlists through Google Assistant

So when I ask Google to play my (insert custom playlist name here) through Spotify, it will register that I'm asking for a playlist, but it'll only play some community playlist instead of mine specifically. It's a a bit frustrating considering that Android Auto will of course prevent you from scrolling through your playlists to find the one you want to play. Is there some fix that can be done to make this work, or is this just really not implemented to properly work as of yet? Thanks.

Question Bixby Routine/Spotify Playlist Issue...

Hi all,
This is really a shot in the dark but I have been trying to set up routine(s) that when specific bluetooth speakers are turned on, it will play specific spotify playlists. Pretty awesome idea, except that when setting up the routine, if you click on the spotify option it gives you several generic categories of playlists. Most of the playlists offered are generated ones I would never use. It shows about 3 of my actual playlists, but not the ones I want to use.
Here is what I've attempted:
Clearing cache on all samsung apps and spotify.
deleting the user folder for spotify (not rooted, wasn't accessible, did this via uninstalling and re-installing the app and confirmed that it did remove the directory).
made sure all the playlists were public.
connected spotify to samsung music.
I'm at the extent of what I've seen as potential solutions and unfortunately have only found one thread directly related to it.
So my question is: does anyone know how to correct this so all (not just 2-3) of my spotify playlists show up as an option when I set up a bixby routine for playing music?
Unfortunately this is one of those annoying things that I've become hyper focused on so any and all help is appreciated.
Don't start spotify through the music option. Choose function>open app or functions>scroll to spotify and choose your playlist.
The app functions doesn't show all the playlists either so maybe you have to first start that playlist in spotify before you create the routine
Which error?
