Stain/spot on the screen - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

I have a problem. Today I realize that under the sunlight when the screen is off or with black image it have a blue/purple stain at the bottom of the screen.. I don't know if is it normal or it's a defect.
I had never had a screen amoled and the past days I noticed that on low brightness black colors has purple smearing but people said me that it's normal. So, I don't know if this stain is also normal..
It just happened when stays under the sunlight when it is black or off. When the screen is on or indoor that stain is not noticable

It´s normal. The blue stain is the end of the AMOLED display. I have it too! On all my old smartphones I saw the blue line as a frame around the display.

So it's not a problem like the purple hues when it is broken? (I'm calmer when I read your comment hehe)

Hi. I have the same on my Mi 9T but mine is only a very small dot. Im not sure if it's normal but it doesn't affect the screen colors. Everything is normal on the screen. I hope other people will reply to this.

Same for me on the lower edge. I am using mi 9. It does affect the colors, but only under sunlight. Indoors the line is barely visible, but on a sunny day it is quite pronounced. Not as much as the OPs, though.

So, I don't have this line or anything like this. It's weird for me.
No problem with colors either.
Mi 9 global (6gb/64gb)

Same like me.. but just a small.. size like a type c port connector charger.. how about u right now? Still have dark blue at the bottom?

Still here, now that the summer is gone I don't even see it that often. As I said, uder indoor light, no matter how bright it is, I cannot see it. But as soon as the sun shines a little stronger on the screen, it is barely noticable.

I discovered something similar and it is only visible during bright sun.

Question (problem) about display

Hi, I bought my 4X last couple of days.
Im very happy, but now I have one question about display.
I was surfing on the internet and I noticed that on top of the display, there is slightly brown or yellowish tint
Its visible on white or light grey background.
I noticed it isnt on LCD panel becasue when I look closer or in another angle the effect like disappeared.
It looks like sea-bow effect or glass reflection on gorilla glass or something similar but only with yellowish tint.
I red in reviews that the display is in some distance from glass, maybe there is slightly color distortion between glass and display?
My build is 1.1
Did you notice something similar on your 4X? Is it normal? Maybe Im too sensitive?
Thanks in advance.
So, I try to look at the display with white background in the dark room and I can definitely notice sea-bow or reflection on the glass. Its changing the position when I change the angles during the view on display. Anyone notice this? Would be very appreciated.
Yes, i seen to. But it's a very light effect. Is not a problem for me. If you don't advertise this to me I would not seen it.
Anyone other noticed this issue? Thanks.

To be honest, no. I tried to do in your way, I'm not blind, but I simply don't see nothing abnormal in mine Optimus 4X HD.
I have this problem too, and my Optimus 4x is 3 months old. Maybe it is cause by the overheat problem? Since the phone heat up mostly at the top part when playing games or browsing.
It could be that when the phone heats up, the glue melts and the screen gets "dirty" or its because of screen bleeding or because of pixels getting damaged because of the heat.
I also do notice it. Try to look at the phone at a very steep angle, I see that my screen has a blue tint on the bottom and a weird other tint on the upper side. I bought my phone on march 2013 Only noticable on white backgrounds.

[Q] AMOLED grays - Prospective Buyer

I am a prospective buyer of the Moto X and have my heart set on this phone. However, after using a friend's piece for a while today, I have concerns about the display.
I found the AMOLED display did not render the grays very nicely. They we very reddish brown in my opinion. I understand this is an AMOLED problem, but the X is supposed to have one of the best AMOLEDs out there.
Is this a problem generally in the X or was that perhaps a problem with that particular piece? Is this problem solvable via software?
Thanks!

It's most likely your friends piece.. No reddish brownish grey colors here.

Dude. I think I see what you're talking about. Comparing to my dad's note 3, his is more grey and mine looks brownish grey. I've never notice that..

I mean the greys are a bit harder to distinguish on his phone but I see the reddish brownish like greys on mine. *sad face*.. He's still jealous over my phone so I still win lol. The note 3 has a larger display and higher ppi so there are going to be differences.
Strange I don't see reddish brown s in mine , the shades of grey I find better than on my sons s4 active.
I've noticed that the greys gets brownish when the display is set to the lowest brightness
Browning and reddish, yep. It doesn't really bother me. My pictures look nice and i can't tell the difference from another screen. I think this is more noticeable in the system UI. Everything else is just fine.
Grey looks grey on my device. I've compared it to about 20 different devices I own (all with different display types) and I haven't noticed any different beyond greys being a tad darker on AMOLEDs, which isn't surprising.
The only time I found there to be an exception was when I set the brightness to 25% or less and held it up to my (far brighter) LED TV. There's an extremely subtle yellowish tint to it that I only see in this case. Immediately moving it away from my TV it looks perfectly fine again.
Long story short: You should be ok, and I wouldn't consider it a reason to not pick up the phone. Even if it were an issue, the device's pros far outweigh that minor detail. Plus you'd likely get used to it over time. Personally I think the screen looks incredible, better than on most other devices I've used.

White N4 Painted edges

So on the white Note 4 the metal sides are painted white. Do you guys think the paint will fade or chip with use over time?

mmmm that suck because I got the white one
if you plan to get a case, it won't be a problem. what would piss me off more is the light bleed and the amount of light reflection of the face of the phone from the indicator lights (or any other source of light hitting it directly). i tend to do a lot of my work at night (or in the dark) and i found the white face more of an annoyance and a liability. the white variant of the device looks nice, don't get me wrong... i'm just over it now. function over aesthetics i guess.
I won't have my Note's till tomorrow, but there is a drop test of the white Note 4 where the paint held up quite well from what I could see. The unpainted metal parts didn't do as well.

I think exactly the same... I like the white... But the light bleed is horrible... I think I will end up exactly as my Note 3... Black with white back door...this is the best combination in my opinion, looks awesome.

that's actually a GREAT idea. the reason i got my Note 2 in 'white' was so that i could find it easily in low light conditions. and out of all the dumb times i've dropped the phone, it's always landed face down. lols.

Black version would chip also so I don't think it's an issue.

Yellowish display?

Anyone else's display seem to have a yellowish tint? Mine seems very yellow looking at it straight on. But when I look at it angled either from the bottom or top it looks perfectly white with just a slight bluish tint. Either way it looks much better than yellow.
So what I'm trying to figure out is of I got a bad unit and if I should go get a new one. Only reason I am even considering not exchanging is the whole "scratchgate" bs.
Anyone care to weigh in?
BTW I have the 64gb black.

Comparing mine next to my LG g3 I noticed a yellow tint as well. Not a deal breaker for me as I rarely compare screen to screen but I've owned a gs2,gs3, and gs4 and there is always some yellowish tint discussion that pops up. You can keep exchanging until you get a more bluish tone but I don't have the energy any more lol. Screen still looks great to me!!
Blame AMOLED tech. Your options right now are a slightly yellow screen with generally more accurate color reproduction or a slightly blue screen with less accurate overall color reproduction but mildly more pleasant whites (to most people).
It wouldn't be a big deal but its really bad because its centered. By that I mean when I look at all the different sides from straight on I can tell they are more blueish and it makes the center look even more yellowed. I realize the amoleds generally run warmer in tone but it seems to me that the whole screen should at least carry the same tone from the same angle. Obviously because of the curved nature the color will shift on the actual edges of the screen but everything else ought to be the same color/tone.
Or am I totally off base here?

Doesn't really answer the question which is...
A: is it possible that my display is defective since it really only shows a warm yellow tone in the center most portion of the screen?
B: is this going to be true for all sgs6e's or is there a chance of having one where the tone is the same throughout the entire display face.
I understand color shifting and how is inevitable, but I would at least like my screen to have the same tone from top to bottom (obviously the edges will have a different tone done they are being seen at an angle when viewing the phone head on) rather than Top:Cold Middle:Warm Bottom:Cold

Just turned on Adaptive Display which seems to make the whole screen more uniform in tone temperature however angles are still a bit of a..... well..... bi*** because they remind me of the pure white coloring I've grown to know so well. But I suppose this is far more livable than before which was almost unbearable (thanks OCD).
May still try to swap for a new unit in a week or so just to see if anything has changed.

I have s6 edge too (32gigs black) (Indian Variant) and I also have the same problem. Coming from note 4 so this yellowish tint really is deal breaker for me!
you sure it isnt the adaptive screen setting?
what I found is if you are using the adaptive screen mode and reading a webpage w/ lots of text, it sometimes will change the tint to warmer which ends up with a yellowish screen instead of white, which may cause you to think that the screen is yellow (thats what I thought the first time I saw it)
try to change the screen type to some other settings and see if that get you the white color?
I am having the same problem. I know it's a defective screen because I have two S6 Edges here.
My black sapphire 32 gb has a white screen
My new gold platinum 64 gb has a yellow screen and its very annoying. I'm probably gonna exchange it

Hello . Please do tell if you use a screen protector film or glass . Cause i have the exact same problem and everybody saye it's the protector but i dont think so . It happend after a bootloop and because the phone turned too hot before i download the stock rom i decided to put it in refrigerator. Battey ran out and when It realized it the phone was too cold maybe next to 0 degree . After the flash was done I noticed the color has changed . So I'm kinda unsure

Screen Issue???

Ok. Is anyone facing screen issue on your P20 Pro? There seems to be a gradient colour shift which is very obvious in a dark room when the brightness is set to low. Plus it has a green hue to it. Have a look at the picture attached. Thank you.

Ok going by the screenshots is moon+ reader
I tried it for myself and with brightness turned down to zero on phone and in the app i can also see a very slight hue.
But to be honest, i am much more comfortable reading with some background light so i can at least distinguish something of my environment , and then this is a non issue.
For completeness i took a screenshot with my camera , and it's way worse then what i could see with the naked eye.
With the naked eye it is noticable , but not so bad as the camera makes to believe.
Anyway , a non issue for me.
And since my and your screenshot are suffering from the same hue shift , it might even be a problem with the moon+ reader.....

Thank you very much for following up. It happens in the gallery too. I've tried it with different pictures that have solid colours such blue, red, green, grey, etc. Do you think the warranty covers intentionally? I bought the phone with full of excitement while I was in Singapore for a holiday. I love this phone so much but the screen is bothering me. Sigh!

I'm pretty sure its not covered , the screen works flawless under normal conditions even in the the dark. Only when i go to extreme's like setting negative brightness levels in software the problem really shows up.
I will never have this problem unless i actively go and look for it.
same for me. the vertical and horizontal lines are not really an issue for me, i though i can live with it: i had the same on my p9 plus but on the left, there is a 2cm zone on all the height really darker and it made it almost unreadable at night (lowest light), even with screen filter or not.
i returned my phone and now i must wait to order a new one... my provider tell me they will not have twilight anymore.
i'm very disapointed.
Amoled screens are always a lottery when it comes to uniformity. Sometimes you have luck other times not. There are good screens out there and this time around I got one of the better ones. I have seen others complain about screen issues so not all screens are good like with most phones that have Amoled. Below is mine at 0% brightness and the app you used.
Mine has the issue as well. I ll be getting my device replaced soon as it also has a slight gap between frame and back panel at top left edge
Same issue here. First P20 Pro had it from bottom to top (pinky purple at the bottom, yellowy green at the top), second one has it left to right, but more pronounced on the bottom of the screen.
Is it worth replacing it again? I'm not happy with paying a significant amount per month for this if the screen is bad on all of them.
I would like to check mine. What is the best way to check this?
Update: So i opened lcd test app on my p20 pro and here's how mine looked like in the dark.
I don't know if i did it right but tell me if i need todo anything more to check this propertly.
Oh ffs, my third one has it too. Significantly green in the top left running about half way down the phone.
I've now been to the store 3 times, it's a 96 mile round trip! Nearly 300 miles of fuel wasted on this rubbish.
I get "it's a chinese phone," but we're paying Samsung prices for it, these screen issues are just unacceptable!
Have p20 pro for 2 weeks now. Always thought it's some dark theme design before found this topic. Have top much brighter than bottom in low light conditions. Can't see in bright room or in dark room with brightness more than 50%. I wouldn't be worried if it wasn't so annoying while I watching YouTube before go to sleep. Half of the screen grey, another near to black.
