Thermal Throttling in redmi note 7 and how to solve it. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

So once i tried rendering the same video on my rn7 and an asus mp m1 with sd 636.
guess what the sd636 won.
i realised the cpu is being throttled to save battery.
so i took two measurements of the cpu speed wrt time with the help of CPU throttling app with and without miui battery optimisation which is available in the battery saver section of the app info.
here are the results
1)with stock settings
https://ibb.co/k9M0GjH
2) without the stock battery settings:
https://ibb.co/fdKSr7d
to disable this throttling enable no restrictions on the battery saver option
Here is a battery benchmarking app in case you want to benchmark the battery and compare.

should i choose "no restrictions" for every app ?

no only the apps which u need the maximum performance, for example pubg

okay i get it .. thanks man

That's useful to know. Thank you :good:

What app did you use for measurements?
If I want to measure CPU ,first measure with settings that I have now, after that ,go to battery saver and sett all app to no restriction.
I will se the difrence in CPU with and without battery optimization

According your measurements ,the phone working better when is apps not optimized, right?

no no this is not the correct step
follow the steps below:
1) open settings
2)manage apps
3) click on the app you want to optimise
4) then click on the battery saver option which is below restrict data usage
5) then click on no restrictions

Ok, I found all this, I use game that I play Empires and puzzles, set to no restriction.
Now open Thermal throttling and start measurements.
When I finish,I go back to game and battery saver set to optimize and then again do measurements.
Then I will see results?
I thought that this app measurements all application..
How app know that I change game to no restriction?

you open that app
click on the start button and let the rear finish
after it is done you'll see a graph and that graph will tell u wheather the phone is being throttled or not
u cannot check the throttling in any other app or games.

Unfortunately this technique is obsolete now, after the latest update the thermal Throttling issues did increased and it cannot be stopped anymore.
will update if any change happens.

Does it affect the battery life if we'll enable "no restriction" on app battery saver?

Use game booster. In it, add all the apps to memory exceptions but not the games. This solved my hating problem.

install thermalmodx module, no throttling at all.

[Q]Frequency Not Sticking

Hello guys,
If I set new min/max frequencies on SetCPU or any other app it changes without a problem, but as soon as I press the home button, boom, it`s GONE. Governors work great but the frequencies go away!
It isn`t any other app which is changing it, I tested not allowing any app to have root access and setting superuser to deny as default, so it`s the system.
NoFrills app has an option called: "prevent changes from other apps (and system)" which WORKS, but that`s the only one that has this option as far as I know and I really wanted to use the profiles of SetCPU which are really awesome!
I have reflashed and hard reseted and It`s still the same!
I`m not sure if this started when I upgraded to official Brazilian V20a or this started after my pirate System Tuner Pro started crashing.
Any ideas? Thanks a looot!
Its tegra 3 management over riding it, also most apps with display the frequency wrong when they have in fact been set. Try this app its designed for tegra 3: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tegraoverclock

I use this app, it actually doesnt work very well for me when trying to set CPU speeds but anyway, I can do that with no-frills, the point is I didnt want to be stuck with only one app and be able to set profiles!
Is this problem normal for other users? Anyway to fix it?

Ignore what CPU apps tell you, they read the current speed as the set speed for some reason. Trust me its working. If you have any doubts and you're on stock ROM dial 3845#*880# and enable the CPU overlay, you will see if the speed is set. If settings really aren't sticking then that problem is unique to you I'm afraid

Perfmon and CPU overlay show the same all the time and tegra overclock does the same as the others. As I said, no-frills work flawlessly but doesnt have profiles.
I guess I`ll research some more and email SetCPU guys to implement a "prevent changes" like no-frills.
Thanks for your help man.

[Q] So I have some terrible battery life

So,
It is currently 9:13 am, and I took my phone off the charger at 6:45 am. And I am at 81%, and I am fed up. I have stamina mode on, and low battery mode. And, I HAVE NOT BEEN USING MY PHONE. I just don't get it, why it drains in my pocket. Says screen is at 44% taking of battery. I have used WLD and nothing is wrong. I can hope you guys can help me out, or at least 4.3 and 4.4 will help!

Simple Bro! Go To Eco Mode Controller In Apps And Clear Data And Reboot! Done!
Happens Due To Error Calibration Of Stamina Mode Due To OverCharge
The only thing clearing Eco Mode controller helps with is resetting stamina mode estimate, it doesn't fix battery life.

Google Play Service is the cause of it.
If you download wakelock detector or BBS you will see GTALK_CONN as a waker. The cause is unknown and solution aswel.
Ive disabled everything from Google besides play store.
Biggest problem is Google Services, especially with the nlpwakelock, nlpcollector, and gtalk_conn wakelocks that's draining the battery on standby when connected to WiFi.

Disabling those improved your battery life ?
And one more question I would like to ask, I've heard that disabling Bravia Engine 2 improves battery time a lot, is it true ? frankly Its very hard to tell the difference when it's on and off, do you guys see a noticeable difference ?
And what other stuff can I do to save battery ? Thanks!

Yes disabling the google stuff helps to save battery because those apps keep running in the backround.
And bravia engine 2 enabled wont drain battery...and yes we can see a noticeable difference..the colours are more bright and vibrant in pictures and videos when be2 enabled

whitelisting aops

Is there a way of whitelisting apps when using aggressive doze? Since the last update podcast republic has stopped working. The app is not battery optimised but that didn't help. Any other suggestions.

Maybe it's the same thing, but they renamed it in the beta version?
At least it says it does the same thing... almost.
Thanks. I guess you can't individually exclude apps that show up there.
@Eggstones When I had aggressive doze and app hibernation ticked, the apps I excluded were not closed in the background - so what you did in the screenshot from post #7 should be enough. I never used "auto close high power usage apps", but I believe you should just leave it unticked.
Just a random ideea... Can you set it as default music app? Maybe it will work out and stay in memory?

Low RAM available in Honor Play

Hi guys, my EMUI version is 8.2 and I am concerned about ram management of honor play.
Most of apps reload when launch them from recent apps.
Even youtube also reloads that too playing video if i switch to some another app.
Available ram in my phone is around 1Gb only (out of 4Gb). Earlier I used redmi note 3 3Gb variant and in that 1.5Gb ram was available.
Do you guys are also facing the same problem or is there any setting for ram management.
P.S. This is a new unit and I can still replace it till tomorrow.
Nope. Somehow mine always keep around 2gb free also if it dips below 800mb, just restart the phone.
Or goto phone manager app management and change automatic control to manual and change the auto run to FALSE

Have you added apps to the "ignore battery optimization"? I also lock apps that I want to run in the background too for faster load times.... Works perfectly for me
I'm on the official Emui 8.2
For ignore battery optimization options follow this path
Settings, apps and notifications, apps, then choose the icon at the bottom "settings", special access, ignore battery optimization.
Change the tab to all apps and then click an app and add to ignore battery optimization.
Don't we have a phone manager app for stuff like that? Or does the phone manager only help with the storage?

did you give it adb permissions?
Turn off all power management and find the trouble causing apps.
Doze apps will just cause trouble.
Android will run fine by its self; using any power management will cause erratic behavior and... excessive battery usage.
More than likely it's Goggle Play Services or one of it's dependencies like Transport that's sucking a lot of the battery.

Hard to say which apks are to blame but this is a prime offender. 3rd party apps including Samsung's bloatware can do it.
Trash apps like FB, WhatsApp etc.
Power management can also do it by creating conflicts and endless polling.
Power drain should be well under 1%@hr with always on AOD off.
You need to track down the offenders. It will be much harder to do on 10 and above then on Pie because of stupid Google app security protocols.
