Device Sources for Asus Zenfone Max M2 [X01AD] - Asus Zenfone Max M2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello guys,
I'm Rohan (aka erikkkkk & rohanpls), I maintain DotOS and Revenge OS (CAF edition) for Zenfone Max Pro M2.
As you all have been enlightened that I was working on building ROM for this device (from telegram group). I don't own this device but I figured a way to bring device tree and vendor sources for this device. Current status is that I couldn't make the kernel work (it's hard especially if you don't own the device).
I have stopped working on this for now because I am busy with exams, so I planned to make them public because if experienced kernel developer could take interest in making kernel work in the meantime then ROM would be ready. I will start working for device again once I am free. Device tree and vendor source is already ready, they just need to sync and build.
I brought TWRP for this device, and it will be OFFICIAL too.
Here are the sources:
Device tree: https://github.com/rohanpls/android_device_asus_X01AD
Vendor Source: https://github.com/rohanpls/vendor_asus_X01AD
For kernel devs to get started, Asus provided kernel source can be found at: https://www.asus.com/in/Phone/Zenfone-Max-M2-ZB632KL/HelpDesk_Download/
If any developer wants to contact me then pm me via telegram: Mod edit - Removed
Cheers!
EDIT: Credits to ashu7073 for helping me by testing few stuff on his device.

NOTE to interested devs: Please explore branches for device tree! I suggest not to use pie branch.

Thanks a lot dev... I am waiting for your work.. all the best for your exam... Happy to see a thread regards max m2... Hope somebody will build a rom... Eagerly waiting for the custom ROM...

Those sources are really, really bad. I suggest interested developers to make trees from scratch instead (as your's are full of mistakes).

When are you getting back into it? I really need a custom rom!

Any custom rom bro

Can you please make for Zenfone Max M1 (msm8937)
We have booted kernel source

Decrypted file link no file is there please reuplod

Great to have you back! :good:
I've been saying many times here you were and now I am happy to say you are the only real developer for Mi Max so far. You deserve all the credit for CM based custom ROMs since day one. Everybody else was just using your work and porting without fixing a single bug. Couple of guys here fixed most of the bugs you didn't have a chance to fix before you left the development.
I am planning to get involved in the development soon as well and I will be using your sources and fixes as we go. So yeah you definitely will deserve and get credit... Let's get Mi Max CM official so more devs get involved...
Please excuse me if I some time missed to give you the credit for your work specifically by name but part of that fault is yours too... You are not much active here and most of the people don't recognize your name so I had to refer you as the "first guy"...
Welcome back and be more active here please... We need more good developers like you... :good:

He has Mi Max? That's encouraging... I hope we'll have him too... He will bring a lot of knowledge and experience...
I was actually thinking of donating dev phone to some of those kenzo guys so we can get Mi Max sources up to date fast...
I had no idea you were the one but it's good to see you here. Like nijel said hopefully we can have some Nougat love soon. Much credit to you for what you've done with the device already and in the future.
Work in helium?

hi great work. appreciated.
After browsing around a little bit, I have noticed two things:
1. There aren't many (if any) kernels based purely on Xiaomi's stock source, which is what this tree is based on.
2. There are several kernel bases for custom ROMs.
As a result, this tree probably won't be of much use to developers and it's not really easy for me to make a custom branch like I have done for the other trees. As a result, I am offering to merge in the android-linux-stable/msm-3.18 tree which most kernels seem to be downstream from so you have a clean way to update for the future if you don't feel comfortable doing the full merges yourself.
Alternatively, if your tree is almost up to date anyways (3.18.100 or 3.18.101 seem to be common), you can just git merge the latest tag in (v3.18.102 at the time of writing this) and watch the conflict notes for the ones that pop up in the msm-3.18 tree. I'm accessible via this thread or the Telegram group linked above if you have any questions or concerns!

Your presence here is an inspiration!
I'm trying to port omni to mi a1 (keyword: trying... I'm starting to learn the whole process from scratch so, not there quite yet.)
And I hope this kernel will be useful.
Does this mean WireGuard is supported by default?

This is just a reference for kernel developers. You need to compile a build and make flashable of it.

No, this is just stock kernel with Linux kernel stable changes merged.

Choosing source trees for Android 10 ROM development

Hi guys,
I'm trying to build an AOSP Custom ROM based on Android 10 and some cherry-picking for My Motorola one power(chef). For that, I need some answers.
Can I use the source tree from other ROM developers (like this one ) without making any changes. At the end of the linked thread, you can find the Device tree, Kernel tree, Vendor tree.
Can I use Motorola kernel found here
I'm new to ROM development btw new to programming too
I meant source tree means Device tree, Kernel tree, Vendor tree.
Help me in this I'm circling various thread for the last two days

Question [spes/spesn] no google custom rom when?

Slowly new custom roms are fading in for the spes/spesn redmi note 11 and now there finally is its own forum here.
A custom rom without Google and its services is still missing among these roms.
Hit a post here if you find some de-googled custom roms, will do the same.
Peace
Update 08.07.2022:
The lack of de-googled official roms seems to come from the fact that xiaomi did not yet open source the kernel source code for the spes/spesn devices. https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource
Update 01.08.2022
I'm leaving this spes/spesn and will try to get a device where the OEM is more cooperative with opening their source code. There will be no further updates from me in this Thread.
Make sure to drop new information here, since there are and will be quite some people wanting official custom roms without google.

Spark OS is also without gapps (vanilla version). Currently I am using LeOS (GSI). Its ungoogled by default and works well.
Tried Lineage OS linked in this thread , I cant install gapps ,can anyone do a build with gapps.

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/#xiaomi The spes/spesn devices are currently not officially supported by LineageOs
https://calyxos.org/docs/guide/device-support/ The same goes for CalyxOS
Again, this is probably due to the source kernel not being released to the public by Xiaomi.

[DEVELOPMENT] [TB-X606F/X606X/X606V] Device tree bringup for the TB-X606 family

Hey y'all, I've been recently working on a device tree for the X606F (codenamed "achilles6_row_wifi").
I do not have much experience on this topic, so I am essentially doing this blindly, basing it off other's work. I am currently only targeting the X606F, but X606X/V may also be supported.
I am looking for someone to collaborate with, I have an Android build machine ready to test changes. As I saw that Android 12 GSIs boot, I tried to build LineageOS 19.1, but ended up in the usual "black-screen bootloop", I don't know how to debug this so I am looking for someone to help
