Firstly, let's get the most important bit out of the way, since we are on the XDA forums, as you can see from the photos below, the OnePlus 7 Pro 6/128GB on Three.co.uk can be unlocked right out of the box, thankfully something OnePlus probably asked of them, just as they did with O2 with previous generations.
The method is the same as it's always been
As with all processes like this BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE YOU START
Enable developer settings by tapping build number (in Settings>About phone) 7 times, enter pin
Go to Settings>System>Developer Options>OEM unlocking and enable, acknowledge the warning
Install the included drivers on your computer by attaching USB cable and setting USB mode to "File Transfer, the drive with the OnePlus drivers should appear, if not I remembered to upload them to my AFH account here, just unpack the zip and install.
Open a command window with administrator rights and run adb devices, acknowledge the prompt on your phone, run adb reboot bootloader to reboot into the bootloader or just enabled advanced reboot in your developer options and reboot to bootloader.
In your command window type fastboot oem unlock and the prompt in the image above will be shown, use the volume keys/power button to select to unlock the bootloader (REMEMBER YOUR PHONE WILL BE WIPED WITH FACTORY RESET, YOU WILL LOSE ANY FILES ON IT SO BACKUP BEFORE YOU START. You will also ALWAYS get a warning stating the device may not be safe when you start it up, this was forced by Google on manufacturers.
Once the phone reboots you will need to perform your setup again
Delivery was by DPD, they provide an hour delivery slot via both e-mail and sms, bizarrely though, the Three.co.uk rep confirmed, when I called them as I hadn't yet had the delivery confirmation, that the text message would be sent to my new number, which was using the sim, which was in the box being delivered :silly:
The box wasn't too healthy when it arrived but this is what you'll get from Three.co.uk in your package:
When you open up your sim card it will come in a triple snappable design as below, as you can see you want the nano option :
The box contents are the same as the other models, including the case included in the box, here it is on with the grey back, it almost makes it look more silvery in person :
I really need OnePlus to provide a longer charging cable, I'm surprised more people don't complain about this but the cable they provide is comically (although it's not funny) short, it barely makes it from my socket to my desk and the sockets are underneath/behind the desk, the length really is ridiculous.
OxygenOS 9.5.4 was prompted right after I completed setup so my rooting/unlocking/etc was done on this version.
I've installed the rooted and booted image from this excellent thread and as you can see, after following the instructions from the thread, I now have an unlocked bootloader, latest Magisk and BusyBox Pro installed only hours after receiving the device. This provider and option may make a tasty little dev device with that combo:
From my initial tests (including one especially for dladz ) the GPS performance is excellent (That test was indoors on my first floor), Antutu is...a good score? I dunno, I don't really benchmark bruh but the Antutu Benchmark was after I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted with the Magisk guide from the thread mentioned above. No other custom kernel or modification was used apart from that listed above.
Someone else with a different model could possibly do the Antutu benchmark for comparison, with this score, specifically the memory score, I would imagine it will be higher with more capacity.
As someone had asked elsewhere, Voice over Wifi was enabled automatically out of the box and is still enabled for me :
The popup camera isn't as intrusive as you would think and is smaller than you might think, bare in mind all the YouTube reviews had the phone in your face, when you're holding it the popup camera seems a lot smaller, face unlock is still fast but obviously not as fast as previous OnePlus phones without this mechanism.
What I don't like?
The USB cable as I mentioned above.
You cannot register the same finger more than once, this was possible on the previous FP readers and helped with detection, I'm not sure why this was done.
OnePlus has removed the option to long press the back button for recents (Personal preference maybe but why?)
The new swiping gestures you can use instead of nav bar don't work at all well with the included case, goodbye fingertips
The vibration motor does feel stronger but the typing feedback feels like someone tapping the back of the phone, something that can be tweaked in the settings probably.
The curve of the screen makes tapping on some options, especially in the settings toggles a bit tricky.
Granted most of those are teething issues with this new device.
If you want me to try something else or confirm other information, let me know.

Lovely. Good review.. Thanks mate

Great review ?
I'm using the gestures as well and with the case which was in the box and for me the gestures work really well! I needed some time to get used to though, but I have no complains here.

Just another update, someone else had asked about pre-installed apps from Three and sadly there are a couple:
Netflix (Shows an uninstall option but doesn't uninstall, haven't tried with root but that should work I would guess)
"Three", presumably an app to administer your account (That can be installed from the Play Store so shouldn't really have been forced) It has an uninstall option.
"Three Likes", also shown on the Play Store but can be uninstalled easily.
Wuntu, God knows what that is, funky teen community app?
That's about it, nothing too intrusive or bloaty.

Hey buddy,
Thanks for this!
I bought the 8gb model from John Lewis. It prompted me to install Three Likes but quickly uninstalled. For your reference, Wuntu is their discount apps so every now and again you can get a free Costa, personal Domino's pizza, free credit with Ratukin and stuff like that so it's good to have actually.
On the VoWiFi, it works on my phone too (out of the box without needing to use the workaround), but after my phone has been asleep for a while or I leave WiFi and come back, VoWiFi drops out and won't return until I reboot my phone. Any chance you can keep a particular eye out for this to see if it happens to you?
VoLTE works perfectly out of the box which is abig upgrade for Three users from previous OnePlus phones so happy about that.

I'm jealous! EE didn't lock 6t last year but said 7 Pro 5G will be locked! So I need to hope someone clever figures out how to unlock for free!

I want to ask a few question about this 6gb ram, do you had any issue in memory usage so far? (maybe feel lag or something if you opened too many app)
Because my friend had 8 gb ver, and daily usage of his memory ram is 5.8gb In normal usage, not while rendering or gaming. So I'm curious about 6gb ver, did it consume that much too??

Are you happy with Samsung Galaxy S i9000 ? (YES/NO) and Why?

I think i need your result about SGS
please vote and post to hold topic up.
I will be able to answer this question once Samsung/Broadcom release their "updated" GPS driver.
Yes but no! )
I love my galaxy s but don't feel I can answer yes just yet... when samsung hold to thier promise and deliver software for a fast phone with stable GPS then I will give it a resounding yes... until then, I love it... but not enough to commit myself! )
I am very happy with my device!
if you choose NO, please tell us WHY ?
Yes and after flashing to JM1 rev.3 - extremely so! Can't wait for Froyo!
Of all the smartphones I have owned so far, I love this the most. So definitely YES!
YEY
It is a great phone. Except the GPS everything just works. So when GPS is fixed, I think I will stay with this phone a long time being happy. That means > 1/2y
Shouldn't this be in the General section?
I am not quite happy with this phone. I switched from Samsung Omnia HD, the most powerfull symbian device to date, to check out the wonders of Android. Except for the multitouch, unfortunately it doesnt have anything better than Omnia HD. I am sorry to state this, because I really thought it would make a difference. But having to download an application for every single little function that should be alreayd there, it's really frustrating. It's just my point of view. Maybe some other ex HD owners think otherwise. There is not at least a led for the camera (otherwise good pictures during the day, I admit); there is no option (unless u use an app) NOT to show the whole world around you your SMSs; there is no option to choose what connection to use (unless to start and stop all kinds of data applications); you cannot choose any song you please for any alert in the phone, unless you move the respective sound in some strange folder in the phone; there is no way to choose where to install an application; gprs connection only works after I restart the phone and after a couple of hours it just doesnt transfer anything anymore; you cannot send via bluetooth unless you install an application; you cannot choose if you want or not the messages to be shown as conversations and many many more.
Dont get me wrong , the phone is very good and has many good things, but unfortunately, as I was saying, it is very very dissappointing not to have elementary comfort functions already in the menu, but to have to download little stupid apps for everything.
Conclusion: I will buy Nokia N8 as soon as it reaches my country.
PS: I dont what the famos GPS problem is, but mine with NDRIVE works great and in real time. Strange, I know.

so, you choose 'NO' becuse of Android OS.
Yes I am happy with it, it is a great multimedia device with the ability to watch films etc. on a big super amoled screen.
But I am annoyed that you have to do loads of tweaks to get everything working and lag free.
Quite alot of people would never think of flashing firmware and performing lag fixes. They would probably have been better off with the Desire which works out of the box.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Haven't voted yet. If they get GPS working I'll keep it else it's being returned as "not fit for purpose."
Overall, I am very happy with my SGS, It came with JF1 but is now running JM1, which reduced the lag a little, but thanks to RyanZa's Lag fix, the phone is too fast
Not had any need to try out the GPS and am not too fussed as its a bit of a gimick to me.
The wife has an SGS too, still on stock JF1, and she loves it, won't let me speed it up though as she is very happy with its Stock performance, having come from a Nokia N97 that crashed on a regular basis and ran like a two legged dog with no sense of direction...

Yes, unfortunately Android OS is not quite ready to be used , at least for someone coming from Symbian OS. It reminds me of older Win Mobile, few good years ago.

And would you mind explaining in just a few words what this LAG is, that everyone is talking about? I find the speed of my device just fine.
I am currently, but I am assuming GPS will become somewhat functional in September. I bought it to improve my productivity in many ways, and it does.
But, if the GPS isn't fixed, even though I rarely use it, I'd have to question if it is the best choice for me...
I am happy with the device but not the samsung service or their ability to fix problems quickly.
Over 2 months now and the gps problem and the lag problem have not been fixed. And then I look at Motorola and HTC and how quickly they come out with fixes and updates.
Plus looking at the development going on with their devices like cyanogen mod etc I am not sure if my next upgrade will be a samsung device. I might have gotten seduced by the Samoled screen but my next phone will be the one google chooses next as its development device as all these other phone might have new bells and whistles but they should add to basc android not subtract from it as many do currently.
This is truely the first phone that works great if not perfectly right out of the box!

oneplus 3t kills background apps with high cpu usage

Some of you probably heard of the oneplus 3 killing background apps after they hit a certain number (12)
this isn't the case anymore with our 3t and nougat (the limit is 32 now), but what I noticed was that the stock rom kills bg apps now that use "too much" cpu, which definitely is not what I want.
It even kills the app's instead of cleanly letting them shut themselves down, leading to data loss on my side
I basically sometimes let MozStumbler (app's name) run in the background which uses quite some GPS and cpu time and I know that and willingly want to drain a bit of battery life for that
the 3t has enough anyways
but it doesn't let me:

as you can see in the log
bgdetect (whatever it is) seems to be killing the app
disabling strict standby for the app in the battery saving options doesn't fix it
it seems like the oneplus 3 already had the "issue":
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...lling-legitimate-background-processes.454330/
it would be amazing if somebody with enough knowledge and the same motivation as me could take a look at it
Regards,

Maybe this settings is killing the app to make sure that the phone doesn't heat up
good pick, but that isn't it
the setting is turned off for me as well :/

have you got an answer to your support ticket, yet?
Hi, I've gotten a lot of answers, beginning with resetting phone over flashing back to marshmallow but nothing helpful with Android 7. They told me that they were working on a patch. Let's wait for the next OTA.
I've contacted the OnePlus support via forum and via support tickets about that, but they are as incompetent as possible. The OxygenOS is violating Android policies and the support is telling me that this a the normal use case. For me it was my first and only device from OnePlus.
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oxygenos-4-bgdetect-is-killing-background-processes.503627/
What will be the next? Device will switch off completely to save battery after some minutes in idle?
I'm saying good bye to OnePlus...

Foreground service notifications in Android are there for a reason. If they forcibly close such services with BgDetect and claim it's normal they are just a bunch of incompetent ignorants.

To be fair, your bug report says BgDetect is killing background processes, which I can understand it would do by design, when the real problem is that it silently kills foreground services as well.
I'm currently working on a project with a service that collects data from an external device, performs a number of calculations on that data, and then passes the results forward to a game running in the foreground. That means that, yes, that service is using up quite a few CPU cycles, but that's kind of the point. It doesn't mean that it should be killed off just like that, which is why I made it to run as a foreground service. But apparently OxygenOS begs to differ.
Fortunately, this project is targeted to run on a Samsung Galaxy S7, or maybe a Google Pixel, and I'm only running it on a OnePlus 3T for testing and debugging purposes. It just makes testing a bit annoying, plus I just spent half a day chasing a red herring.

Hey mate
You meant this?
I'm not sure
There is option to close high cpu usage apps like FB .Essemger, you can turn that off.
Mostly it gives notification about high cpu usages first and then when you click on it, it automatically closes from the next time onwards.

I did never receive such a notification, and it keeps closing apps every day but unpredictable. Sometimes apps don't run even 5 min in background and sometimes they stay for 12 hours. That includes PoGo, Firefox and my geocaching-app (I rarely use any other apps except a chat app). Often I also miss notifications from discord, so probably some more services are killed. I'm pretty sure it even crashed my geocache-database, a thing which did not happen in 3 1/2 year with my old device.
I got my device 4 weeks ago and would like to get rid of it already. As said above by somebody else, my first and last device from Oneplus.
For people looking for answer, under Settings/Battery/Battery optimization, there is list of apps and you can decide whether to optimize selected app or not. Optimize seems to be default and it means "restrict app running on background"
This has nothing to do with Battery optimizations GeoMV. This is not an Android setting, but an OnePlus feature to save battery.
A real soloution is a new firmware, e.g. LineageOS. This is working since almost a year without any issues.

Dual sim dialer and hands free
Hi my previous dual sim phone had a dialer where you could key the phone number and press one of 2 dial out icons (one for sim1 and one for sim2).
Is an option like this available in the standard rom 7 plus ?
I have set the default dialing sim to sim1 so that hands free works as per my previous phone. Is this necessary for hands free ?
Anyone here from Korea? I cannot use VoLTE. Apparently, Nokia phones are not registered in the VoLTE here. Living in place that has the fastest internet and call connection, the 2018 phone becomes the bottleneck. Smh.
Does anyone know a workaround for problems like this?
Hi,
I've got two questions.
1. Is it possible to stop Google Play from adding new icons for every app installed in the default launcher? I don't want to change my launcher, hence my reason for asking.
2. Is it possible to have multiple variants of messengers in the phone, kind of a similar feature in S7 after Oreo update? I need one for my work Sim.

No, no native dual messenger option in the Android One version. The China market software, on the other hand, does have this function (my wife has the Chinese version of the 7 plus).

Hi all,
just got mine. So far i like it. There are a few things that bother me though.
1: settings->storage->internal shared. At the bottom in system i have 13GB used. Why so much? I cant imagine that android 8 uses so much.
2: in developer settings i saw aptx, aptx HD and a lot more to chose from. But every time i select anything else then the default and exit dev options, it reverts back to default. Why that?
Im on 8.1.0.
Thanks!
PS: is there some PC software available for the new HMD Nokia lineup? I know in the past there were the Nokia PC suite and Ovi suite but i doubt they work with the new phones.
I have a really odd WiFi problem with my Nokia 7 plus. I had problems when I first set it up - I couldn't enter my Google credentials over WiFi. It would only work with a SIM inserted to use mobile data.
Since then it appears I can't browse, or use applications on the Nokia 7 Plus which use secure connections over my home WiFi - eg. Twitter, Amazon login etc.
No other devices (Mobile Phones, Laptops, Tablets/ Smart TVs) are affected by this problem using the same network, no special rules have been created for this host on my WiFi AP/Router.
And I don't get the problem on other WiFi networks - only the Nokia 7 Plus on my home Wifi. Anyone else experienced this or know what to do to fix it?

how to unlock the bootloader of nokia 7 plus ta-1062? the chinese variant of this phone doesn't allow me to use google pay
Hello,
Am rocking a Nokia 7 plus but it is now stuck in April security patch after downgrading from Android p beta 3 to Android Oreo 8.1.0 .Also checked manually in the system settings but still no luck.
Any help will be appreciated.
How is the build quality?
Hello
I have just bought this phone couple of days back and i am loving it so much so far.
I have not even touched its ceramic coated back yet and have just put the plastic cover as soon as i opened the box,
Is the ceramic coated rear and overall build is such fragile to spoil quickly ?
My mom's Moto G5 Plus still has decent quality back after an year of not very careful use.
So, what is your suggestion ?

S20FE (Snapdragon) (SM-G781B): Force remove GameOptimizationService howto -

For anyone that has been struggling to remove this damn app (com.samsung.android.game.gos), I found the solution (atleast for me on my S20FE (G781B). It goes without saying you WILL need root enabled on your device for this method!
Fair warning you do this at your own risk
Go to the Googleplay and install 'File Explorer (by jrummy) ', or download it from apkmirror. Then open up the app and go to root then system then priv-app - /system/priv-app
There will be a folder in there called 'GameOptimizationService', select the folder and then select delete.
Then via adb, check and remove the app again, you should get a 'failure' message meaning its already been removed so you will never see a toast popup error agaib (happy days) -
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.games.gos - see below for revissed instructions
Now as I find the theme app & service pointless I have gone and remove that also, but I will need to monitor is long term to see what side effect (if any) that will have. The upside is it removes is from the list in the settings app.
[update] Courtesy of @justin22 we now know you don't have to remove the app just use an alternative method to hide - 'pm hide com.samsung.android.games.gos' This will have the same effect, as in stop the app from running in the background which then stops the annoying popups.
Moved this to its own post to make it easier for people to find -

Ah Sweet, thanks for that. Have been looking for that for a while, didn't occur to me to click on that button, doh!
This worked well on Tab S7.. Thanks
Great that you found a solution, too bad it has to be on a rooted phone.
The only reason i won't root my phone is beacuse of using samsung pay and some banking apps
I still hope samsung will eventually come to its senses and either fix this GoS crap or allow us to completely remove it
It's driving me nuts that i cant play games without lag on my phone (Galaxy s9+)
Hi @b1k3rdude
I am using a galaxy Tab S4 with android 10. Not rooted. Root privileges caused me more hassle than benefits so I flashed the stock image again. I also went thru the painful and deep debloating process. I would love to send you my debloat list, if you'd like to review it.
If I remember correctly I left the 3 gos apps. Dunno why. Are you telling me that if I remove them, my GPU won't throttle anymore?
The only way I could make the GPU stop throtthling was with mtweaks. I set the clock speeds to max. But the temps went crazy. But hey, I got no major framedrops from 60 to 40-30 like I was having before.
I have recently bought a Tab S7 hoping that the frame drop thing was gone. I was wrong. Same game (Rules Of Survival), same maxed out settings (max quality, max resolution, max FPS, no shadows, no MSAA), same debloat (on the S7 I deleted the GOS stuff too but not the system folder you mentioned) and I was still experiencing frame drops. Not as bad as before but they were still there. And you know what?! Lowering the settings did not improve AT ALL the performance. I have already returned the S7 because it had some weird touchscreen problems.
I think I might stick with the S4 until some Chinese company won't come out with a nice and powerful android tablet. Lenovo has got the P11 PRO but it's less powerful that the S7 and it costs more LOL. But without all that Sammy crap it might perform better.
My OnePlus Nord can handle Rules Of Survival ways better than my Tab S4 and similarly to what the Tab S7 was doing.
Edit: back in the days when I rooted the S4 I was talking to a friend of mine who addressed me to that damn thing called DVFS that downclocks the GPU when it's under load causing those massive framedrops.
I remember that DVFS nonsense. games would perform wonderfully for about 10 seconds then turn to crap. it was a cheat for better benchmark scores if I recall the theories of the day.
tell me Samsung doesn't still use that ?

I don't play games on my phones, so I cant help you there I am afraid (I have a high end desktop PC for gaming).
I just didn't want the service running in the background, constantly complaining via toast notifications that some Samsung apps/services it wanted weren't running.
com.samsung.android.games.gos doesnt need to be deleted/removed
a simple
pm hide com.samsung.android.games.gos
kills the app without changing anything, besides the state of the package.
pm hide is great for stuff that ignores pm disable !!
its as if the package was removed.

Ah cool, thanks for that, I will add this to the OP.
This no makes me wonder how many other apps you could do this on, for example could we get away with this on com.samsung.android.kgclient for example without causing a softlock..?
I would test this, but cant untill twrp for this device get updated with external sdcard support. [update] - you can backup/restore to an external USB drive (I went and bought a USV-C to NVME enclosure and a 256GB SSD for this.
nah,I wouldnt touch that one (kgclient) ... another app I tried to hide was com.ims(service).something... but the system got sluggish, and I was glad that I could enable it again.
pm hide is like it was uninstalled, but the package remains...so be CAREFULL !!!!!!!!
I use automagic for my trial and errors.
I build a flow which consists of <disable/hide package> - <timer : 60sec> - <enable/unhide package>
its kind of a failsafe.if nothing happens.. GREAT and I stop the flow,if the system gets buggy but not rebooted, then after 60secs the package is active again.
also I add the <enable/unhide package> action to the autostart flow.. hoping that this would get executed even if the lockscreen is locked (not sure though about this one).
Later I add a label in titaniumbackup to the frozen apps,so I hope that I can restore (refreeze) frozen apps if I should EVER have to do a factory reset again.
Without TWRP my desire to freeze anymore packages is kinda low,as I always have to accept to do a factory reset if I disable the wrong package
Btw.. when there will be a TWRP (T870).. you dont have to do a factory reset when flashing the twrp package right ??

Same, I know @afaneh92, is working on getting ext. SD card support atm.
If its an updated version of twrp, you just flash from ODIN. You DO NOT have to touch the phone (eg doing factory reset and such).
thanks for the info !
I looked for a TWRP for SM-T870,but I didnt find anything (only S7+).
So there is a TWRP for T870,just without xSDsupport right now ?
If so where can I find it/OR is there a post where I can check for progress/or info (when its ) available ?
@justin22 I just had a check myself, there's no development of TWRP posted here for you.
from android 10 released devices onwards TWRP development is much harder. google has changed the way partitions are organised from what I've read. root is more involved now too. development on lots of Samsung devices has slowed right down. we need devs to own these devices I think to be motivated. we're looking at months of waiting especially with bootloader unlock in the US not being free for now.
@3mel : again thanks for the info !
When I got my S7,I couldnt shake the feeling that this will be my last Samsung device.Alone the ****ty warning screens every time I reboot, all the crap installed, and pointless apps/processes you cant get rid of without bricking the whole thing (kgclient(payment),...).
And now no TWRP...

Same, each time SS keep making it harder for use to root and flash custom recovery and roms to our devices.
You can flash boot animations to remove this.
We have TWRP, just no Ext SD card support atm. And without an S20FE the dev cant work on this :-(
do you have a tutorial /thread/link for boot ani flash &/or T870 TWRP (even without SDcard support) ? (I couldnt find ANY twrp for the T87xx(S7) series, only the T97xx (S7+)

I had a look and there was nothing on this site, other than the TWRP site there's no other place I'd trust if they said they had it. best thing might be to ask in the other tab 7 TWRP threads if they'd be compatible with SM-T870 or if they could made so.
if that's the newest sexy tab with the S-pen you've got, it should have a few users who feel the same way. also check whether it has a locked bootloader, that'll be a big factor if half the world's devs can't flash test builds.
TWRP development sounds like a real pig of an affair nowadays
TWRP and Android 10
Please note that this post is primary related to TWRP and the Pixel 3 and 4 and devices that may ship in the future that ship with Android 10 as their origin...

Just tried this but got a security exception thrown. A quick search explained that Google actually removed hide a while ago?
If anyone has an alternative that would be great. Disable doesn't work for game services as it restarts straight away.

[A13] Pixel Experience GSI for Surface Duo

Pixel Experience GSI for Surface DuoHello everyone, after a long tease, finally I have a build of Pixel Experience with some modifications to run on Surface Duo.
The experience is still very preliminary, with almost no UI customization. The only work done is to react to posture changes.
As such, I would suggest this build to be installed using DSU Sideloader instead of directly flashed onto device, so you can try out the experience and get back to a more stable, stock Microsoft Duo OS experience.
Download Link:
duo_PE_system.img.gz
GZ File
1drv.ms
Features:- Pixel Experience ROM
- Screen and touch react to posture changes
- Sleep/Wake based on posture
Bugs:- You tell me (sorry, I have always wanted to type that)
- Posture sometimes become buggy. Workaround is to unfold device to get back to dual screen and go back into the posture you want.
- I have noticed some funny behavior with screen timeout and waking, but haven't tested it properly yet
- The split screen handle is actually smaller than the hinge, so you lose some pixels from apps in split screen mode
- UI is not modified for dual screen, so you will have UI elements under the hinge.
Installation Guide (DSU)Prerequisite:
- Unlocked bootloader
- Have at least 32Gb of storage left
1. Download and install DSU Sideloader from https://github.com/VegaBobo/DSU-Sideloader
2. Download Pixel Experience GSI for Surface Duo from https://1drv.ms/u/s!An829WhOFDfUoLgiauVbeMFQYJ6lWg?e=gbDWdY
3. Follow instruction in DSU Sideloader to install the build. I recommend changing the userdata partition size to be 16Gb at least, but can be larger if you want to use it more substantially.
Installing using DSU Sideloader will mean whenever I release a new build, you will need to sideload it again, losing all userdata of the build in the process. This is expected, as I don't think the build is necessarily ready to be daily driven.
Installation Guide (fastboot)If you are well acquainted with ROM flashing and are not afraid of messing around with fastboot and recovery images, this is for you. The upside is that you can update whenever I release new builds without losing data. I will write out the general steps here. If you cannot figure out how to do this from the steps, this is not for you yet.
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Reboot into fastbootd
3. Delete system_ext and product partition, alternatively delete the inactive system_a/b slot.
4. Flash the system.img onto system partition
5. Reboot
6. ??
7. Profit

Huge thanks for your work! Glad you got it stable enough for a release. Will test it once I am home
I gave it a try as DSU Sideload and it runs very well. Thank you.
Will use it for the next days.
Amazing work! Flashing when I get home for sure
Already flashed amazing work !!!
My sim card going back from my pixel 7 to my duo again
works great, much better than the microsoft original rom. You have save this device, thanks
Works very well, thank you for your work, do you plan to make updates to fix the middle of the screens?
Looks great understand its early days but will you be moving towards the standard pixel experience installation method in the future?
Even though I've been banned from Twitter I have been following you for at least a month now. I'm so glad to see you had released a working copy.
I swear I was just moments away from closing that tab thinking you had lost interest in the Surface Duo.
THANK YOU! You are my hero.
From the video I saw, the apps open as spanned by default then?
Amazing, installed it last night, noticed a few wonky things like:
1) When opening /unlocking only 1 screen turns on, after a second or two both come on.
2) Thinks there's no bezel and is one big screen, probably the hardest part to figure out how to get it to behave with a gap offset or like the OG Microsoft rom
3) Pin to screen is not as nice as in the original rom
Where do you want us to report this, here or in your github repo?
Does this work on the Duo 2?
Bugreport:
I installed it yesterday via fastboot. I figured out that the most Microsoft Apps are not working. They start but close immediatly (MS Outlook, MS365)
MS Edge Canary is working

I can second this, a lot of apps which may have had duo optimisations (Kindle, TikTok, Microsoft Outlook & Teams) seem to crash on startup/opening. I wonder if they're looking for frameworks or features that would be present on the stock ROM.
I'm trying right now using dsu. Amazing work!!
I really like the way multitasking (using both screens) is done here. Haven't tried phone calling and aside from one time the ui hanging while messing with the split screen options, everything seems very smooth and stable. Really looking forward to what comes next!
Nice work! I will definitely be flashing this on my next day off. Thanks for your work on this and look forward to more updates!

I can confirm this as well. I tried to use Outlook but it crashes on startup. A possible solution would be to fake the device identity as a Pixel? I guess these apps check if the device is a Surface Duo and then they expect the duo sdk/framework

Can confirm as well. Flashed via fastboot and OneNote, onedrive, and ms365 are all crashing.
I havent logged in xda for the longest time but I just wanted to say thank you for working on this. I have been switching back and forth between my v60 and the duo because the v60 has been far more responsive and stable. But the duo form factor is better. I have been dailying the duo for a week and have been considering switching back to the v60 again but after installing this, you have given me hope because of the increased responsiveness.
Screen orientation is excellent and fast.
I'm on the fence on the flipping over the screens on phone mode. There are times it gets confused which screen should be on but I cant say how else dictate which screen should be on. Situation where person is looking down on the screen (standing up) VS person is looking up on the screen (lying down with the phone above the persons head.) , the phone can kind of be tricked into turning the other screen by quickly rotating the phone and back to the position desired.
Can confirm tiktok crashing.
Thai I hope you can continue working on this. You've already done a great job vs an entire company to make give life to the duo again. Is there a way where we can help support you in your work on the duo?
Thanks again!
