What is the state of root for SM-N9600 on Android Pie? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello. I used to install custom roms like crazy back in the Galaxy S3 days... but haven't done any rooting since.
However, I now got the Note 9 and specifically got a model that I thought was root/TWRP friendly. But now that I'm looking though this forum, I'm not sure what's what.
I found "[Recovery][Unofficial] TWRP for Galaxy Note9 (Snapdragon) N9600]" from September but OP still says "MTP and ADB does not work right now. (Working on a fix)"
I've read various things that Android Pie root isn't sorted out yet? I'm not sure what's outdated and what's current.
Can someone please point me to a guide for rooting a Note 9 SM-N9600 with Android 9 on it? It would be much appreciated.

Question about latest rooting and custom roms on note 4

Hi guys,
I just replaced my note 3 after 14 days and switched to the note 4. I was liking the note 3 and already rooted it and had a great custom rom on it. But something was calling me to get the note 4, so here I am. This is probably answered somewhere, and I tried searching the threads, but I'm getting old and I think I just can't find anything anymore. So quick question, I'll probably run stock for a couple of days just to get a feel for it as I usually do but I wanted to know is there any concerns I should have for rooting the note 4? besides the Knox issue, which is not really a concern for me. I'm currently on stock android 4.4.4, with ANJ7 firmware. I'm seeing a 128.37 MB software update from tmobile, anyone know what this update is? and if I should not download it , because of rooting concerns? Not sure if its just a security update or something...
Thanks for any help given from a long time xda member since before android on my ancient mogul windows mobile pda .
Ok I think I might have answered my own question, I couldn't wait no longer so just did the update and its just updated the firmware to K4, which I see is already supported on the latest custom roms.

The Note 4 and Note 3 are basically exactly the same as far as ROOTING
is concerned and both are rooted in the same manner exactly.
Here is a direct download link for the latest cf-autoroot which has everything
you need to root the N9010 Note 4, it has the windows odin and cf-autoroot
which is specifically designed to work with the Note 4 N910T:

The 128.37 MB software update will upgrade your phone to the latest NK4
baseband and I would highly recommend to go ahead and make the upgrade.
Good luck and have a great evening.

Help with AT&T Note 5 (920A) (Trying to find a s8 port)

Hello, im new to xda, but i came here searching for some answers to these questions:
is there a working port of s8 for the 920a note 5? i want to install some ports i watched in youtube, but if not... which android is the latest i can install with the locked bootloader? i installed my android 6.0.1 with odin, phone came with android kit kat, so i uploaded 6, but im not sure if uploading a port will brick me or cause me a problem, i would be capable of? or in which way can i install android 7+ or 8 (if already available) without dealing with the bootloader... thanks in advance, and sorry if this is not the correct site for a question, im not used to this site.

Note 9 Rollback issues from Pie Beta CRJ3 (New here, forum won't let me post proper)

So here's the deal, I was excited about getting me a piece of pie. I've been rooting and installing custom roms on android devices for years, but haven't done so for the past 2 years or so.
Didn't realize so much had changed and become harder.
Here's the deal:
Note 9 (AT&T) SM-N960U 512GB Snapdragon 845 Model.
I updated to the beta 9.0 CRJ3 version. Having constant freezes and UI crashes and more and they've gotten a lot worse in the past couple of days.
Trying to rollback to Android Oreo but can't find a single dang article to tell me how to do it. I can't get ODIN 3.13.1 or ODIN 3.13 Patched to make a serial port connection whatsoever. I've tried EVERYTHING. I've got the Samsung drivers installed, Smart Switch/Kies etc isn't installed whatsoever.
I need help with STEP BY STEP instructions please on HOW to rollback to Oreo and troubleshooting on getting ODIN to being able to "SETUP CONNECTION" and work properly.
Please will someone out of the kindness of your knowledge, help a poor bloke out? LOL

Is this the right place for Samsung note 9 T-mobile?

Hello All,
It has been a while since I returned back to the forms and seems kinda hard to find the path. . . .
Is this the right place for Samsung note 9 Tmobile? if not, can someone please point me to the correct forums for the T-mobile users who has the Samsung Note 9 Smartphone.
I see a lot of threads for Verizon and ATT and I don't want to be in the wrong place.
Like everyone else, I want to dig into the threads and root my Note 9.

Yes this is the correct place, the threads aren't broken up by carrier anymore also unless you have the Exynos version (which I assume you do not because you said that's on T-Mobile) Root is not available for the Snapdragon variant and I believe it hasn't been since the Galaxy S7?

The Note8 had root... I had a SD Note8 and used the Samfail method to root.

acctualy, the forum is not wrong but your phone is.
so if you thought about rooting it, then you bought the wrong note 9 model.

Yup! You're in the right place! However, there is no root for the US Note 9s with the Snapdragon processor. Only the international versions have unlockable bootloaders and/or root. But the problem with an international version is no warranty and you won't have as great of a signal due to differences in supported radio bands and lack of carrier aggregation. Though some people in the US have had luck with them.
Also once you unlock the bootloader and root, you break Knox, which is permanent. Once that happens you'll never have Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, etc...again.

The Note 8 HAD root. Samfail was patched long ago when Oreo came out. The developer of Samfail said it was impossible to root the Note 8 now.

Yeah, but he'll lose carrier aggregation, so poorer signal strength, and US Warranty. And once rooted, Samsung Pay, etc.
What I want to do, but not in any specific order
Glad I made it here!!!
Thanks for the reply everyone who chimed in.
Here we go again with the no "root" from the 7 edge to this . . .
T-Mobile had this promotion that was hard to pass up so I upgraded.
What I want to do, but not in any specific order
Root
De-Bloat the bundled apps that I will not use
Install recovery tools
Install backup tools (need root)
Pimp out the kernel
It take me awhile to navigate around XDA to look for these tools and such.
I have never used Samsung Pay nor am I onboard with that service.
If anyone knows where I can find some of these tools, please don't hold back because it will take me awhile to get started.
Thanks Again!

appart from using adb to disable packages, none of the above list is possible without root.
nothing has changed regarding if the device is unrootable then these things aren't possible.

Uh....
YOU
CAN'T
ROOT
THIS
PHONE.
Root is not possible. Root will not be possible. You bought a phone that can't and won't be rooted. The developer of Samfail said it was impossible.
You can't have root.
Just in case you want to root the T-Mobile Note 9...you can't.
Ok, no one has provided a root or cooked a Kernel . . .
Are there any rooted roms that were baked?
Silly to ask, but are there any pure android roms for this Note 9?

I'm not sure why you're so confused. The bootloader can be unlocked. So no custom ROMs. NONE. There is no root and never will be.
What you're asking is impossible.

Verizon Galaxy S8 root possible now?

Sorry in advance, I couldn't find a definite answer. I know a while ago it wasn't possible but I'm wondering about now. Some say it can be rooted and others say it can't. So can a Verizon Galaxy S8 edge be rooted? Model number is SM-G950U and it is on software version 8.0.0. If it can be rooted, what is the best method?
Edit: what is the latest software version that can be rooted? I can keep it at 8 but if I can update it and root I would like to do that
