cannot access TWRP after successful flashing - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
today was my waiting time over and so i opend the bootloader and flashed:
Twrp_3.3.0_Cepheusv11
xiaomi.eu_multi_MI9_9.5.23_v10-9
Magisk-v19.2
all with success.
The phone (Global version, 6gb+128gb) boots normal and everything works fine up to the point where i want to boot in TWRP. After starting the phone with power+Vol up i get the mi unlocked screen and then for 1 second a black screen, then its reboot and i'm on the mi unlock screen again. Fastboot and normal system boot works fine, i have root over magisk and everything.
Any ideas how to get into twrp again?
Longer version:
After unlocking the bottloader i followed this guide-how-flashed-twrp-xiaomi-eu-rom but with newer files. For TWRP i used the Twrp_3.3.0_Cepheusv11 version from here. The eu rom came from sourceforge and the magisk version from here.
I flashed twrp over terminal from my pc with "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and uploaded the rom and magisk with "adb push rom.zip /tmp/" + "adb push magisk.zip /tmp/" to the ram. After disconnection the usb cable i hold down power+vol up while still in the fastboot mode and the phone reboots into twrp. from there it was strait following the guid eg. wipe menu, format data, confirmed with "yes", wipe menu again, factory reset. Install rom.zip, install magaisk.zip both without any errors. Reboot menu and select "do not install" for the twrp app.
From now on the eu rom started up, i connected to my wlan and connected the phone to my mi account and after that to my google account. The rest was normal installation.
After installing everything i debloated the phone with this list. Instead of pasting the full list i chose just the follwing parts:
Android Stuff: none
Google Stuff: none
Xiaomi Stuff: all
Xiaomi Apps: all
Extra Stuff: none
To be Tested yet (try at your own risk):
com.miui.compass
com.miui.calculator
com.miui.cloudservice.sysbase
com.miui.gallery
com.miui.screenrecorder
com.mi.webkit.core
com.miui.providers.weather
Unfortunately is the android.providers.calendar app in the xiaomi app list and my calender didn't sync to google without it. So i read a bit about the com.android.providers.calendar app and learned that it is a specific app for every version of android and i cannot simply use the version from my other phone.
Okay, i thougt, my system is just about 2 hours old i reflash the eu rom and magisk and be done with it. So said, i wanted to boot into twrp, powerd the phone off, hold down power+vol up and got the miui unlocked screen, after that 1 second of black screen and than the miui unlock screen again with is followed by the normal system boot.
First i thought i missed the right moment for holding the buttons down so i installed apps which allowed me to directly reboot into recovery.
But with ervery app it was the same: miui unlocked screen, after that 1 second of black screen and than the miui unlock screen again with is followed by the normal system boot.
So i reflashed twrp over the terminal "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and it was stated a success. But again only: miui unlocked screen, after that 1 second of black screen and than the miui unlock screen again with is followed by the normal system boot.
Next i tried to reboot into recovery from adb but it was the same result.
Next i tried to just boot twrp from terminal with "fastboot boot twrp.img" but again, same result.
Next i tried to install different versions of twrp. From beta8 to beta11 i flashed every version but again, same result.
Now i'm sitting here happy with a new eu rom and fully rooted but unhappy with the knowing i cannot update anymore. Any ideas how to get into twrp again?
Edit: i reinstalled my android.providers.calendar after i read the "How to Re-Install an Uninstalled App" section again ^^

I read somewhere the Chinese recovery should work with latest Xiaomi.eu. TWRP is still in early stages.

Re-flash the recovery in fastboot mode. After flashing don't reboot recovery with a command but reboot recovery by pressing vol+ and power, keep both pressed untill you see twrp booting. Happened with me as well but than got sorted by flashing again after setting up the rom, enabling usb debugging and going back into fastboot and flash. And can I ask why did you use version 11 when the latest on that recovery is v17 beta and a final version but v17 is good and decrypts as well, hope this helps, cheers.
version 17 is on this page: click on the mega link

Installing TWRP problem (Mi5 white 32GB)

Hi everyone
Some days ago, xiaomi sent me the approve for unlocking the bootloader
so i followed the procedure
Here yet the first strange thing:
the xiaomi programm for bootloader unlock says that after unlock my device will be formatted at all
But after my mi5 rebooted it was all as before
no data loss
And fingerprint is working
Then i wanted to flash the TWRP following this thread: http://en.miui.com/thread-245756-1-1.html (In the very last post there is an update for fix the touch problem)
I downloaded Mi Pc Suite, adb driver and fastboot driver (In fact both adb and fastboot recognize my device)
And then i flashed the TWRP as mentioned
But if i disconnect my phone, it wont reboot autmatically, i need to press power button for like 8 seconds
If i press power button for 8s it will reboot normally into android
If i connect the phone and through adb i write adb reboot recovery it will reboot into a black screen with a phone and a cable (that i think mean that the recovery isnt installed first, and second it's like bootloader mode)
How to guys? I need TWRP to flash the new weekly
Thanks a lot to all
Federico
Download cofface fastboot tool here attached and the twrp recovery image below.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/bx0ru3cfgk1kv01/cofface_twrp_recovery_gemini.img
Boot the fastboot by maintaining power + volume down button, connect your phone to the computer.
Extract this .zip to your desktop.
Open Command Window and direct it to the extracted folder.
Note : If you use Windows 7 and above, maintain Shift key and right click to extracted folder., and choose "Open Command Window here."
Type "fastboot devices" to see if your Mi 5 is detected.
Type "fastboot flash recovery cofface_twrp_recovery_gemini.img"
When it's all done, type "fastboot boot cofface_twrp_recovery_gemini.img".
There will be a bug where the screen will be unreactive. Just click power button and let screen off during 3 minutes, when you turn the screen on again, the screen will function again.
I have instaled the wrong twrp3.0.0.0 having a bug now I have with the new adb twrp3.0.2.0 instaliert that would work.
only when I stabel who wants to install the new and I'm going in again into TWRP is the old version 3.0.0.0 TWRP back where the touch is not working! how can I fix this? and remove them from Completely mobile

The same thing happened to me. I want to know too. (How to uninstall the old TRWP 3.0.0.0 completely.)
TWRP for MI5
The problem seems to be that the MI5 use two different kinds of LCD (JDI or LGD); you can know your kind in settings - about phone - tap 5 times on kernel version - 2. check version info - lcm information.
You can download the appropriate twrp from the section download of miui italia
Thanks to miui italia for the solution
The solution is taken from original post in this forum, not miui.it...

Try format your phone completely , this will make TWRP overwrite the stock recovery

Can't root P8 Lite

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum so please forgive if I misplaced this thread
The problem is next:
I want to root my P8 Lite (and convert to dual sim but first things first). I have read some threads here, also that mega-thread, did everything step by step.
First I have requested unlock code from Huawei and successfully unlocked bootloader (fastboot shows it's unlocked and booting in bootloader shows Phone UNLOCKED).
Second, I installed ADB drivers, HiSuite recognizes my phone, adb devices shows it, everything runs smoothly. I downloaded and tried bat file that automatically roots it (the lazy way ) but not success so far. Then I rebooted completely and did everything step by step using cmd.
1. adb reboot bootloader (OK)
2. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (OK)
3. fastboot reboot (OK)
4. adb push UPDATE_SuperSU-v2.46.zip /su.zip (OK)
5. adb shell /sbin/recovery --update_package=/su.zip (SEGMENTATION FAULT)
I am stuck at step 5, clearly. Also I tried commands one by one:
adb shell
/sbin/recovery
But that returns Permission Denied.
Tried that again through Minimal and ADB Fastboot, through SDK, but no success so far. Thought that Windows 10 may be the problem, but the same was on laptop with Windows 7.
I would appreciate any help here.
I don't know. In my opinion, you can put the SuperSU flashable zip into your phone through USB, and boot into TWRP Recovery, mount /system, then flash it.I'm not sure about it. Maybe it can help.
P.S.: You can see https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8...de-to-unlock-bootloader-t3150616/post61708277this post, find the UPDATE-2.

I can't boot into recovery, it shows nothing. There is a sound that usb is connected but screen remains black, I can't install twrp over stock recovery. Is sd card necessary or this can be done just with phone memory?

I had some problems installing TWRP and SU after my update to B588.
I used Xepeleato's TWRP edition with the 2 zip SU installation (I have so many files, that I cannot remember where I got them ).
So, flashed TWRP, then connected via usb (if I am not mistaken) and then via adb rebooted into recovery. Then flashed both of the files for the SU.
I will try doing that with install from sd card, from service menu, otherwise I can't install over stock recovery.
Also can't root it. I soft bricked my phone 3 times and then had to flash Cust, Boot and all the other images using a script I found on the Megathread and set it up all over again. I have an unlocked bootloader but can't root it and I am too scared to try again.
That's my problem, first time softbricked it, then I flashed stock recovery and fixed it, bootloader unlocked but can't root.
Just in case you are on B588: I had problem with the official recovery of the build (don't know for sure if it is different from the others) and flashed the one extracted from B584 and then flashed TWRP.
I'm on B585
if I were you, i'd flash twrp, through adb and then boot into recovery through adb also and flash the 2 zip SU files at once. clear cache and dalvik and reboot.

How did you flash the one from B584?
EDIT: Nevermind, I did it. I booted to recovery through adb and TWRP was working
Did it, found some chinese twrp that worked for me. Now other problem came up
I tried to downgrade to Lollipop and setup was successfull. When phone restarted display wasnt showing anything, just bars and flashes and pixels etc, startup sound is there but no preview. Fastboot system flash returns failed, also erase.

1) let your phone charge - in case you don't have enough battery.
2) Try to download your desired build.
3) download Huawei extractor and with this, extract boot, recovery, cust and system.
4) search a bit on the big thread (root, unbrick convert etc) on how to enter fastboot. I cannot remember the exact steps, but there is a way for sure.
5) initiate adb and flash all the 4 images you extracted.
This is in general what you have to do.
Wishing you good luck!
If I find something more I'll let you know.
PS : when I had mine bricked I entered bootloader by following these steps if I am not mistaken :
Connect phone to pc
Keep Pressing the power button and when the screen turns off, press and hold the volume up (while pressing the power button).
When the phone vibrates, release the power button.
Tried everything, boot, recovery and cust flashed successfully but sytem "cant load system.img" even with using -S 512M or 1G or 256M. I took it for a repair, hope they will sort it out.
The guy from service did not succeed, he told me that he tried everything that I have, and that the phone can't be repaired. But I did.
I downloaded the latest firmware for my country, formatted SD card as FAT32, put it in my phone and rebooted, so folders Android, LOST.DIR and System Volume Information were created. I put the UPDATE.APP in dload folder on my SD card. Then I let phone charge fully until LED indicator was green. Plugged out the charger, and pressed Volume Up + Volume Down + Power. When the phone restarted, on startup vibration I let go power button and kept holding Volume Up and Down for about 3s. Then when I let them, display went completely black and nothing happened. I put the charger but it wasn't charging so I hoped that it started forced upgrade. Left it on the table and about 15min later it vibrated again on restart and - success!! Huawei logo on screen, booting up, EMUI optimizing device. So happy I solved it. Also thanks for answering guys!

Not sure about alle the steps you did or did not do.
But if you install TWRP and then reboot back to MIUI, it will overwrite the recovery again.
From the TWRP.me site:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.
Ok, followed all the steps exactly, the phone boots into twrp, then i reboot in system, or let it reboot by disconnecting, same thing happens. Black screen MI logo, bootloader unlock, in red, at the bottom of the screen with an open padlock.
Now it wont boot at all.
This is weird, I can boot into fastboot and recovery but when i try to flash, the device is redognised but i cannot see it in the drop down menu to find the rom. Grrrrrr im stuck.

OK, if you want to keep MIUI, just flash MIUI again and it should install the needed firmware, recovery etc.
You can use the recovery zip for this or the fastboot gz version to install (both should work).
If you want a custom rom installed, go to the Lineage thread (i use that since feb, with weekly updates) or another one.
Read the first few post carefully, but if you want to install it (Lineage), do flash the firmware first via recovery before flashing the rom (don't forget this one).
Update. I can get into TWRP recovery but have no back up.
If I try to boot into system I get a black screen with Mi logo and a red unlocked boot loader padlock graphic.
If i boot into fast boot and run miflash, the phone is recognised but the sd storage does not appear in the drop down at all.
I cannot use the pcsuite software and if the phone is not in TWRP or fastboot mode it is on the black screen with logo with red unlocked padlock and is not recognised by the PC. I dont know what else to do, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Found out the problem it was supersu, gonna try a different version

Glad you found the problem.
I think that MIUI has already build in the SU via the Developer options, but i'm not sure of that.
If you think of Lineage, just flash the Lineage Su addon after the Lineage rom.
Works great.

MIUI has some sort of verification on boot. If it detects a custom recovery different from stock one, it won't boot. You need to use zcx twrp. It can bypass this verification.

help needed: can not flash other recovery despite having unlocked bootloader

Hi Guys,
yesterday I was able to unlock my Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro bootloader after waiting for 7 days. The unlock was successfull at first attempt, but now my issues begin and I couldnt find a thread where someone has similar isseues.
1. after unlocking the bootloader, I booted to fastboot mode and flashed twrp (from a greek xiaomi forum website ) after that I tried to boot into recovery. The attempt was unsuccessfull and I got the Mi-Logo Screen with the unlocked message at the bottom, after 60 sec the screen goes black and nothing happens, only fastboot mode is working.
2. flashed back to stock recovery -> the phone boots up successfully and is working.
3. Used the Miflash 2017.4.25.0 Tool to flash fastboot rom to have an untouched condition (clean all option).
4. tried to flash another twrp (from wzsx150), same behavior like in 1. explained. Flashing back stock recovery -> phone boots and is working.
5. again used Miflash to have an untouched condition, tried another twrp (By mauronofrio)
5. same behaviour like in 1. explained...
I actually got a Mi 8 Pro and it was so easy for me to flash twrp (also unoffical builds like now for the 9t pro). Switching to different intel laptops with win7 or win10 didnt solve the problem. Changing USB Type C cabels also didnt help
Can someone explain why I'm not getting things to work, as there are already other members which did it successfully...
Try this...
1. flash TWRP
2. Reboot directly from fastboot into TWRP with volume + and power button
3. Flash TWRP.img with TWRP
Problem solved
Kollachi, thanks for the suggestion but didnt work either.
I found a solution by myself I ordered the xiaomi from amazon DE and it was shipped with global stable, why not EEA? I always used the global stable fastboot rom to start from zero, like mentioned, without success.
The solution was flash eea fastboot rom -> twrp installation worked at first attempt and still works! Interesting that this helped me to solve this..

[MIUI 12] Unable to enter TWRP recovery

Help!
I have a European Mi 9t Pro and have just flashed the Global (stable ) MIUI12 rom.
So far so good, it works... but I am now unable to access extended power menu options (aka Recovery Reboot).
The option has also disappeared from the MIUI update settings.
And performing the VolumeDown+Power boot only gets me to a minimal menu with 3 options: reboot to system / wipe / connect with MIAssistant.
I tried using ADB tools to re-flash TWRP to no avail.
The fastboot flash recovery twrp.img command works fine, I get the expected successful output.
But then the fastboot boot twrp.img command returns a "no such file or directory" error.
What can I do? T_T

You enter recovery with volume up and power. What happens if you try that after flashing TWRP?
If your not used to it, it is a little different on Xiaomi devices. Keeping holding both until the phone vibrates, then release power but keep holding volume up.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that's the first thing I did, and it had no effect. Don't know why :/
In the end I resorted to flashing Xiaomi.eu in place of MiuiGlobal ... for some reason it was making it impossible to access Twrp without ADB
This solved the problem, but now my Mi9TPro is back to believing it is a K20Pro. No biggie.
Unfortunately, the only way to achieve that was to wipe my data too x_x
Good thing I have almost everything on the cloud.
Problem solved, I guess
Because only eu.miui or eu.miui based roms have that extended power menu it isn't available on any of the stock miui roms afaik.
Flashing miui means stock recovery...
You only need to type 'fastboot reboot' then just hold volume up to get to recovery.
