Other launcher? - Nubia Red Magic 3 Questions & Answers

Whenever i select another launcher it jumps back to the normal launcher. Anyone knows how to fix this? And yes i have tried selecting for example nova launcher as default. Found that there are 2 possibility's for selecting default launcher and the newly installed launcher won't show up in desktop launcher category. I'am prob going to global rom whenever it's released because of this. Have Chinese 2.14 with gapps now.

in display settings go to navigation bar settings an turn it on. when you sweep up from the bottom you will see the usual 3 options of recents home an back button (by fault my unit seemed set to gestures which I did not enjoy so switched on navigation bar).
when you tap the home button it will turmn to the gaming launcher by default. to turn that off an return to the nubia launch go into recents an click on any screen section an it will return to the nubia launcher.
This means by default you can only use the home button for the game launcher.
I have the Chinese 8gig 128gig rom version that is currently soft bricked.
But this worked every time before my TWRP accident
Hope this helps?
Also... you can set the default to Nova in setting I think

Yeah i also use the 3 buttons on the bottom of the screen instead of gestures .
I'm talking about changing the default launcher, I don't like the nubia launcher.
When i select nova launcher to set it as default launcher it simply keeps returning to nubia launcher.
Also in settings>app info > default app settings >desktop it only shows the nubia launcher and the game launcher, it doesnt matter what other launcher i install from the play store they all won't show up here.
When i start up nova launcher and go to settings and click on the set this app as default launcher i get to the default app > home app and here i can select nubia launcher, game launcher or nova launcher so when i keep selecting nova launcher to set as default i still go back to nubia launcher.
I have been using nova launcher for years on my xiaomi mi mix 2 and oneplus phone for years and I like it alot, I prefere a app drawer.
It's prob a software bugg but meaby someone has a solution.

yes I remember that.
I uninstalled Nova launcher an just flicked between the 2 nubia launcher (gaming mode an regular).
I also have had Xiaomi cells for the last 4 years (redmi 3 pro an MI note2) but have come to realise that ZTE/Nubia is a very different cat.
Your probably right about thew software bvug preventing non Nubia launchers.
I wish I could unbrick mine lol. Using my Mi note 2 until I can manage to fix the stuck in fastboot made an locked (which is crazy because I unlocked the bootloader via CMD commands).
Its been in fastboot mode a week now.
I think this cell is brand new technology an you might have to be patient an wait for a support base to develop for it as well as company updates.
I was impatient an am noe locked permanently in fastboot mode as I stupidly tried toi flash TWRP for the red magic (the first version of our model from 2017).
With disasterous results
Good luck with your set.

You can switch your launcher permanently by going to Settings -> Apps & notifications -> Default Apps -> Change home app to whatever you want.

Apps & notifications is called app info in my settings and setting it to default like you normally would do is not possible. When i get to default apps like you said i can only switch between nubia and game launcher.

I just got the USA (global) version of this phone. Doesn't appear to be ANY gesture navigation in the settings. Just the standard 3 buttons at the bottom. No way to change them, reorder them, hide them, or use gesture navigation instead. There is no navigation bar settings in any of the setting menus. Anyone else have this issue? Am I missing it somewhere?

You don't have this category in settings?
Anyway anyone got another launcher working on this smartphone? Or is my rooted China 2.14 bugged or something.

Just got my red magic 3 this morning. Loving it. Figured out how to change default browser. Make sure u have nova launcher and the premium installed obviously.
Go to settings - apps and notifications - see all apps - look for nova launcher, click on it - click on advanced - you will see "home app". It should say "no". Choose yes. - done, nova is your new home.

In app information i don't have the home app default switch, it looks like this.
Anyway i'am pretty sure it's bugged because everytime i select it as default in home app category it simply switches back to nubia launcher.

Before All, You Should Have Only There launcher Enabled, Two Nubia Launcher, One Custom Launcher.
I Use com.microsoft.launcher As An Example., The same goes for the others.
Tested in CN ROM v2.22 And v2.27.
Code:
1.Using The following line to get your launcher's Activity names.
$ adb shell dumpsys window windows | grep "mCurrentFocus|mFocusedApp"
2.Try To Start it
$ adb shell am start -n com.microsoft.launcher/com.microsoft.launcher.Launcher
3.Disable Nubia Launcher
$ adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 cn.nubia.launcher
4.Set Home Activity.
$ adb shell cmd package set-home-activity "com.microsoft.launcher/com.microsoft.launcher.Launcher"
5.Reboot Your Phone (maybe no need).
$ adb reboot
6.Before You Unlock, Disable Nubia Launcher One More Time
$ adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 cn.nubia.launcher
7.Go To "App info - Default app settings - Desktop",
(Select Custom Launcher if You Go to desktop directly instead of push button in status bar)
Press Game Launcher 10 more times,
Push The GameKay On immediately, Wait Animation Over Then Turn Off,
It Will Just Go Back to Your Custom Launcher.
8.Re-Enable Nubia Launcher.
$ adb shell pm enable cn.nubia.launcher
9.Do it Again. Push The GameKay In Your Custom Launcher, Then Turn it Off.
10.That's it, Now You Will Go to Your Custom Launcher When You Press the Home Button.

Haha thanks Harry your post got me started thinking.
I fixed the launcher problem in a easier way
1.Download the latest launcher in my case nova launcher
2.Install es Explorer
3.Go to gamespace
4.Add nova launcher and es Explorer as games in game space
5.open es Explorer and select both show hidden files
6. Go to device in es Explorer, then system, then app, then nubia game launcher folder, then try to install the containing game launcher apk, the installation will fail but that's what u want.
7 go back to game space and open nova launcher and set the launcher as default in the launchers popup window, also go to application settings and set the launcher as default.
Al done now

This works with my Red Magic 3 on v2.35 firmware
The only problem is when you press twice the 'Task button' what will show up on Home screen is Nubia launcher again.
But pressing the center button or 'desktop button' will go back to the launcher you installed.
harry159821's guide looks working too but I need to do it on a linux machine. can't just do it on simple windows command prompt and adb

MiHome for ICS

JUST WANT TO SHARE MIUI LAUNCHER FOR ICS
i found in samsung galaxy sII forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623026
first apk for the launcher, and 2nd apk for miui control panel
How to activate Appdrawer:
Install attached APK (MIUI settings)
you will get an application called MIUI Control Pannel open that app,
There are five option, only last option will work Which is "App drawer option"
check auto start and enable App drawer in that.
you can set pull down location also in that,
Now you can pull down the app drawer from top, just tap & hold and pull down from the location you set, from few millimetre down where we pull down the status bar.
(this you have to set after each boot)
sorry for my bad english...please hit thanks if i help you and please hit thanks in the original thread

No launchers working on my Galaxy Note

Few days back I opted to change the look & feel of my Galaxy Note so decided to install Go Launcher Ex.It was initially on but started lagging on home screens.Yesterday I uninstalled it and went for the default one.Today I thought of giving other launchers a try so went for ADW & LauncherPro but none seem to work or start even though they show as installed app.
what do you mean they arent working?
have you unset the default in applications?
I mean just nothing happens after installing the launchers...neither any shortcut or any change to the gui...
You need to run the launcher then press the home button and select the specified launcher as default.
Go to manage apps & clear defaults of your last used launcher

you can simply disable stock launcher by launching this commands with adb :
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.bbk.launcher2
but Navigation Gestures problem can't fix. You can fix Launcher problem sure

Here is the reason

It's working in rooted mobile with quick switch magisk module previously I have OnePlus 5 it's woring fine with this method.
I got it to work on my non-rooted Vivo X60 Pro+ even when im using nova launcher, it took quite awhile to set it properly
I've replicated my steps twice and both times work for me
0) Start from the default system launcher
1) Go to Settings > Security & Privacy > More security settings > Replace the system launcher and toggle it
2) The phone will ask you to login to your vivo account. I had to create one, might as well cause its needed for the e-warranty card
3) Once you're in, enable "Allow the launcher to be replaced" and ensure the "Tap the home button to lock the system home screen" is disabled
4) Head back to Settings > System navigation and reselect the Navigation mode of your choice
5) Go back to your home and open the "Interaction Pool" app, which came with your phone by default. This will launch the 3 screen overlays. Close the app once you're done
6) Launch Nova launcher and use it to select Nova Launcher as the default launcher from the grey warning (!) message above
if (6) did not work,
7) go to Settings > Application and Permissions > Permission management > Permissions tab (on the top header) > Default app settings.
8) set the Home Screen to Nova Launcher
You should be able to use the swipe navigation gestures

Question Disable navigation buttons miui global 12.5.8

With the new update, miui global 12.5.8, the system no longer allows gestures AND third party launchers and forces default launcher to the system launcher if gesture navigation is selected. 3rd party launchers work with button navigation, and FGN. However, with 3rd party and FNG the navigation buttons persist. Is there anyway around this (i.e. 3rd party launcher with gesture navigation without navigation buttons persisting).
I have tried disabling the miui system launcher through adb, but it doesn't seem to work, launcher is still running.
Selecting the default launcher as system launcher, selecting gesture navigation and then launching 3rd party launcher and FNG gets the desired outcome, however the system launcher is still running/ selected as default (gesture for home button swaps back to system launcher - can remap home gesture to open 3rd party launcher as a work around for the home button).
Thanks,
Found a solution, but doesn't stick with power cycle:
adb shell settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1

Hey thanks mate, I try this and it looks successful, but can not keep when we reboot, any solutions for that bro, I also report issue to Xiaomi / Nova as well, is this Android 11's issue ?
Dears
I'm experiencing the same issue as OakaO with MIUI 12.5.8: cannot even set gestures if a 3-party launcher is being in use.
I've read this interesting thread https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/third-party-launcher-gestures.62948/ and tried the two solutions described there.
They works but have some side effects.
First solution:
The usage of the LADB app with the command settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1 works but has the side effect that you lose any theme status bar you may have configured: the status bar gets back to the one of the stock theme.
In addition it seems to not be resilient to reboot so after any reboot you have to enable ADB stuff and so on (for security reason, I prefer to not have them always enabled)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution)
Second solution:
the usage of the adb command adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural works too but (as stated in the thread) it has the side effect that you still see the gesture bar (which reduces also the screen size) but you totally lose the bottom gestures (even if you use Fluid Navigation Gestures app)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution too)
At the end..... I lose the game and I'm using now my 3-party launcher with 3 navigation buttons which gives me a really ugly effect especially because I use also klwp theme and the 3 buttons are really bad.
After that I wrote on MI community (here the thread https://c.mi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3943484&page=1&extra=#pid20869921 ).
I'm still waiting for a further feedback but I'm worried that this behaviour is not a bug but a clear choice or strategy from Xiaomi.
Let's see what will happen.
bye
I don't want the nav bar but the software buttons.. the problem is that they are white and autohide does not work in most apps.
any solution?

How To Guide How to remove navigation buttons and enable gestures on 3rd party Launchers?

Hello people, as I've seen unlocking and rooting is mooving along quite good. And since in each xiaomi device forum there's a topic like this.
I've tried several apps/methods (adb) to enable navigation gestures on Nova launcher specially, but with no avail. Of course I haven't tried rooting because that's not an option for me.
Currently I'm using navigation buttons with edge gestures (app), but I don't want to use nav buttons permanently as I worry about screen burn in.
So has anyone managed to enable gestures on 3rd party launchers and/or remove/hide the navigation bar? Please enlight us
EDIT: I MADE IT WORK
After several days searching, reading and trying I was about to give up on this one. I was getting acustomed to use Navigation bar + edge gestures (app) and I was kind of happy. But, luckly today I used some of my last shots to try to accomplish it and I DID IT.
Thus here's a brief guide on how to do it:
Install ADB and Fastboot Drivers from here (Select the latest) -> https://androidmtk.com/download-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-tool )
Install drivers for Xiaomi 11T Pro -> https://droidfilehost.com/download/download-xiaomi-usb-driver-for-windows
Enable Developer Options
On Developer options Enable: USB Debugging, Install via USB and USB Debugging (Security settings)
After that and by checking in power shell or the command prompt on windows with "adb devices". If your device get listed you're golden.
Open power shell or CMD on the folder where you installed minimal adb and fastboot.
Type and enter adb shell
Then on the adb console type: settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1
This will hide the navigation bar and it will put gestures as your main navigation method, but take into account that you should configure prior to this process another gesture app such as FNG with your preferred gestures. Other additional things you can do is set FNG as "autostart" in app settings and/or lock it in the recents view.
AFAIK Navigation bar will reappear every time you reboot your pohone, in that case you should only repeat the adb command and you should be good. If anyone knows a permanent solution without root please let us all know.
Hope it works for you as it did for me.
I checked about this last week, since I personally use Nova Launcher.
Unfortunately even with the existing phones that are using MIUI 12 that have been out for 1 year or so, I couldnt find a solution with the navigation gestures. If I find something, I will let you know.

Just made it work, check the OP if you want to try it.
It works for me too, but needs permanent solution.
Permanent solution requires rooted phone and can be done like this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/irs1eb
Another permanent solution I've been using since MIUI 12.5 update on my POCO is to install Substratum Lite (root required) and nonavbar.apk. Then open Substratum Lite. For me it applied the changes at this point and I just had to restart the phone but you might have to select the Nonavbar theme in substratum then thick the "Android System (Android [11])" checkbox click "1 SELECTED" then click "install selected". Restart and go back to this screen to "Enable selected".
All credit goes to @Veiran for this solution.

Did this, works perfectly.
Hey guys,
There's a very simple method.
DON'T NEED ROOT!
1.Turn on the Gesture Navigation and keep the System Launcher default.
2. Remove all shortcuts from the system launcher, just put a shortcut to your favourite launcher.
Now, you can use it as normal, just needs 2 click for the home
BUT:
3.If you use the FNG (find in Play Store) along with the system navigation, you can set the Up Gesture (normally the Home) to launch your favourite launcher (mine is Total Launcher) and if you do the Home Gesture 99% your favourite launcher will come up
(1% you have to click on the shortcut on the system launcher).
