Popup when certain SSID is available. Dont Popup when driving or already conected to - Tasker Tips & Tricks

hey guys,
i have access to certain wifi hotspots which are available around the area where im living. they all have the same ssid. im driving around alot and my phone is constantly connecting to these hotspots which is why i deactivated auto connect to this specific ssid. the problem with this is, that i need this hotspot when im at 2 certain places(propably in more places in the future). so im came up with the idea to create a task which gives me a popup as soon as the specific ssid is available which works great. but the problem with this is, when im driving i get constant popups that the specific ssid is available.
so my question is, if its possible that i dont get a popup while im driving? if yes how?
also would it be possible that my phone connects to the specific ssid when im at places where i want be connected to the hotspot? maybe with the help of the mac adress or bssid?
another questions would be if its possible to deactivate the popup as soon as im connected to any wifi?
thx in advance!

Hi there
All of your wishes are certainly possible with Tasker.
I've done tons of Tasker projects and everything you want, I have pretty solid ideas on how to achieve.
From your scenario I'd recommend letting Tasker perform the connection to the wifi, rather than prompting you. This is a much simpler approach, and with the correct setup we can make sure that you match 100 percent of the time.
Please make a numbered list of your wishes, and I'll provide snippets of code to assist you.
The 'while driving' condition is the most tricky part to deliver consistently, but I'm sure we can find a solution.

I use either Xplayer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=video.player.videoplayer) or VLC to cast videos, both apps support this natively. How well they perform and cast depends (as with ALL apps that cast your own video files on Android) on the internet he codec and the audio format of the file :good:
Please create a separate thread if you need further assistance :good:
Casting like you do there IS the wild west due to different video formats and codecs required

Stream from online radio

Hi all,
Am tearing my hair out trying to figure this one out! I've got:
Windows Media
Coreplayer
GSPlayer
(Flash, not sure if this is needed)
All installed, as I'd like to listen to a radio station stream that I work on/manage the internet stream/technical setup for.
However it just won't connect at all! I have managed to play another shoutcast stream, but still never managed to get this one working.
Can anyone advise on why this could be? The stream in question is:
http://mobile:[email protected]:8000/hartlepool-mp3
Which works fine on all other players on the PC, etc, but cannot seem to figure why its not working on my Kaiser.
Thoughts/things to try, etc please!!
Can't see the link in full to analyse, or click it to open it.
Please repost it, perhaps not as a link but just as text and I'll take a look in the morning.
Cheers,
Joe
Oh strange when I pasted the link it was just a link, must have been the forum software that auto-linked it. Here it is, just cut the spaces out
http :// mobile:user @ arctic.thebmwz3.co.uk:8000/hartlepool-mp3
I've been trying a few other things here, and still cannot seem to figure out what is wrong with the stream/player on my Kaiser.
I've tried changing the stream from mp3 to ogg, same problem, have also set it not to require the username/password authentication, same problem.
Not sure what to try, anyone??
I stream a few stations, here's what I did;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350675
Good Luck.
Thanks for the tips, unfortunately since this is a small UK regional/community station that I operate, it isn't in any public listings, so cannot stream via pages or other links.
The bit i'm struggling with is why the kaiser won't stream the link, as its a fairly standard CBR mp3 streamed from icecast2 at 64kbps/22kHz and I cannot stream either over 3G or wlan when I'm at home, so that negates and proxy or anything like that with my cell provider, so it looks like I'm struggling with some form of incompatibility with my audio applications and the stream that I'm running.
Help! Don't suppose any kind souls out there can try my stream I posted and see if they can play it on their kaiser?
Thanks everyone for your input, its been driving me mad this!!

I tried the stream as posted, with .mp3 rather than -mp3, and without the mobile:[email protected] both as . and -
It couldn't even find the stream! Kept saying the file (etc, not typing the whole message) could not be found. Tried it on a couple of other streams for local radio I know of in South Wales, and it was fine. Couldn't seem to handle Radio 1 tho, but no loss there...
I have no clue about streams, so can't help with what might be wrong, but least this confirms that a Kaiser and WMP will run streaming internet radio. Maybe there is something on the config that a PPC couldn't handle? Does this stream work for you:
http://gmga.planetwideradio.com/RealWales
Thanks Steve, thats what I was wondering. Yes your link works fine which confirms that the streaming to my WM kaiser is fine, its obviously how I'm handling my own stream.
Interesting that you've tried all the combinations that I did, and with no luck, and yes very strange it doesn't find the feed at all and errors with unknown url, etc, I'm wondering if its somehow because the stream runs on port 8000 instead of 80?
However, in pocket IE, you can get to http://arctic.thebmwz3.co.uk:8000/ which is the admin for my icecast2 server, so PIE does seem to accept the alternative port too.
I'm very confused! I'm going to post to the icecast2 forum to see if there are any answers, but anyone else can give me any pointers too??
Cheers!
Right,
Chatting to the Icecast streaming developers, they suspected the authentication being the problem.
So I disabled authentication and sure enough the stream connected immediately, so I suspect there is a bug in the internet/backend on the WM that doesn't interpret multiple colons correctly, as obviously I had two in the URL, one for the TCP port number to use, and one to separate the username/password.
So think thats the problem.

Tab casting to multiple chomecasts?

well, i guess my plan has failed unless someone has a different idea. so i was planning on casting to
multiple chromecasts from the same pc. i can't get this to work unfortunately. i was hoping to do this only for football so i could have different games on each tv and with a powerhouse pc i think it could handle it, but i don't get the option in tab casting. once you start casting you don't have the option to continue casting and start up on the other chromecast.
maybe i'm doing something wrong? anyone else have a solution?
i know that i could use another pc, tablet, etc but nothing is powerful enough aside from my pc to cast in 720p without stuttering.

Not really a solution, but an "HDMI Splitter" can help in your scenario. So, instead of buying multiple chromecasts, you could cast to single chromecast and then mirror the display on all TVs.

Edit: Seems like you want to watch different games. Above is not going to help you.

Yeah....I'm looking for different content on each tv
Ok. You basically need a work around so you can run multiple instances of chrome.
Try searching for virtual desktop software for your operating system.

Here is a workaround to stream from 2 or more browsers.
1) Create a chrome shortcut (other then your current).
2) Right click the shortcut and select Properties.
3) On the Shortcut tab, edit the target to look as follows:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --user-data-dir=D:\Chrome\ProfileName
The bold is what you will need to add, this will have this chrome shortcut use a new profile, so it will allow you to stream to a different chromecast.
My goal was to do this with NFL Sunday Ticket HOWEVER, you cannot log into the NFL Sunday Ticket from a different browser (it limits you to one login at a time...) so if you happen to be trying the same thing and find a workaround for that, I'd love to know.

BYUTV.org to Chromecast...possible?

The thread title is exactly what I want to know...is there some way to get byutv.org content streamed to my chromecast without having to do tab casting?
Whether I figure out a way to cast from my computer with a chrome add-on, or from the android app, I'd love to know how. Thanks!
Look of couple of threads down the forum to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672797 (WebCast extension for Chrome). It works with BYUTV.org.

I tried that extension but the icon never appears for me to be able to use it. It works on other sites, but I can't get it to work on BYUTV.org. Any specific video you used it on that actually worked for you?
Writing to you on a tablet, I mention this as I tried last night but I guess it timed out and it never posted. It was way to lengthy to try again...but I've had some sleep and will copy before posting incase it happens again.
There is a way, but at best it is convoluted and very tech heavy. Honestly, you might be better off waiting to see of byutv starts to support Chromecast... I've seen many forums requesting that from them so it might be better to wait and see...but if you absolutely MUST have it..there's only one way I've been able to divine.
You'll need serviio and aVia. Serviio is a free - with option to pay for - dlna server. Everyone should know what aVia is by now. I can not say with 100% certainty, but I'd hazard a guess the video is rtmp which is why vGet doesn't recognize it.. if I'm right you'll need to install a rtmp sniffer..there's about a billion of them, most free, others not. If it's not rtmp then I can't figure why vGet doesn't see it...but you could use something like getflv or something more free...the whole purpose is to get the url the video is pulling from. Armed with that you can head over to serviio and add it to the online media tab.
Confused? Good, cause it gets worse. Chances are this video may not be compatible with Chromecast and if that's the case, you're going to need to get serviio to encode it on the fly...which is simple, however, serviio does not a profile built in for Chromecast. Do a Google search for Serviio Chromecast Profile AllCast, that will get you to the profile you'll need to add. With the profile, you're now going to need to get serviio to "see" the Chromecast. It doesn't do this by default as Chromecast it's not a dlna device. Instead, you'll need to assign a static ip address to something..say your computer. Let serviio cache that ip (it'll stay cached until you remove or upgrade serviio), then manually assign that ip address to your Chromecast. Once done, in the profiles page you need to change the profile of both your android device running aVia and the Chromecast to the AllCast profile I mentioned earlier.
It will work this way, android with tell serviio, via aVia, to play the online media. Serviio with download and encode the media so that's it's compatible with Chromecast, and then serviio with send the media to Chromecast which will then display it.
In this manner ANY online media is technically playable through Chromecast but...the set up and execution takes a flare of mad cap genius and elbow grease.
Not claiming that there might not be an easier way..God knows maybe bubble, playon, plex, etc might be able to do it in a simple straight forward manner.. just saying that this one will work....and not just for byutv, but for anything. Good luck! Personally, . I'd wait hahaha (edited to mention that it did happen)

I just clicked on a couple at random (not being a regular user of that site), and the WebCast icon appeared for me.

I think the issue is that there is a commercial before the show. Would you mind clicking on the webcast icon and see if a full episode plays, or just a 30 second ad only? Thanks.

Yes, I think you're right - it plays the ad and then quits when it gets to the start of the show.

[Q] How to immediately cast to default Chromecast?

Hi all. LONG time browser. First time poster. Hope you guys can assist. Tried searching and found no results. Kinda surprised it hasn't been brought up before.
So here goes. Is it at all possible to bypass/skip the "cast to device" prompt on an Android device. As I only have one (1) Chromecast device it seems kinda redundant to select it every time I have something to cast. Granted certain apps like Plex, Youtube, Netflix have the option to connect from the get go and bypass the said prompt. I am hoping to achieve this function constantly. More specifically with Google Chrome on Android. As I stream a lot of anime, choosing my Chromecast after every episode seems redundant, especially when I only have one (1) Chromecast in the household.
Can anyone assist? Thanks, GIGA.

I know but it would still be a nice feature if at all possible. Btw I realized I can somewhat simulate the desired effect if I play another video while the current one is still casting (Chrome Android). In this way the connection doesn't break. But if the video stops or completes then I once again have to be prompted "cast to device" to watch another video. Is it possible for someone create an addon/extension/plugin for Chrome Android that adds the option to connect constantly like Netflix, Plex, Youtube etc?

Want to get rid of MediaPC with ChromeCast

Hey XDA Fans,
I'm actually at a position where i want to get rid of my MediaPC. At the moment i can do everything i want with only 1 missing thing. My current setup is, my PC is 3 rooms away and the TV has the ChromeCast. I also have a 5 meter USB cable routed through my rooms close to the TV with a recevier for a wireless Keyboard (mainly because there is no good WiFi Keyboard at the moment). So I can cast my Desktop or Browser to the TV and controll it. But ....
The big Problem, I need a way to start the Chrome Cast via any command, so I can press a Hotkey on my Keyboard to start the streaming so i do not have allways to go to the PC to start the streaming. And this is what I'm looking for currently.
I was looking through the API of Google Cast, but there is no API for Windows/.Net (was mostly clear but hoped for), only for Android and Chrome. So yeah as u guys might allready understand, I'm looking for a way to Start Desktop/Browser Streaming to my ChromeCast with a BatchFile, Scripting, Coding, which i can start via a Hotkey. Do not missunderstand me. If I or u guys could give me a hint with and API with these possibilities I'm able to code it myself. That's not the Problem, but as far as my research went I wasn't able to find anything on myself. So I'm here to maybe get pointed to sth.
Tia Synergi
PS: Sr for my bad english if u guys weren't able after reading the top few lines to understand what I'm looking for tell me I can try to explain it again x)
