[Q] How to root an XPeria Z..? in Linux ??

Good morning Gents and Ladies
This is my first post in xda-developers.
I am planning to buy a smartphone for pen-testing besides of other normal smartphone usage sutff.
My choices have bioled down to the Sony Xperia Z, and the Samsung Galaxy S4...
Only problem is tha i do not know how to root these devices.... by what i have seen so far, it requires flashing the ROM, of them, but i have no access to Windows computers... i only have an Ubuntu 12.04 installation in my laptop, but all the tutorials i have seen so far, involve using some sort of win applications....
I need to root the device in order to get Kali linux, or backtrack linux, or BackBuntu to run in a chroot in an SD card... as well as to install ANTI, and dSploit...
Any hints of how to do this using Linux..??
and more.. the kernel images used in the rooting process are no longer hosted in the websites, where can i get them..?
best regards
Alex
You don't need Windows to root the device. I've successfully rooted the device with locked and unlocked bootloader under linux. You can just run the needed adb commands under linux if you have the android sdk installed.
Downloading Android SDK now... Installed Eclipse already...

Hi, thanks for the answer, is the source code of ADB packed in the SDK, and i just need to build an executable, ? or is it just a stand-alone binary..?

All you need is the platform-tools folder from the sdk. The binary for adb will be present for your platform. I rooted on a mac.

[question] access /data/data without ROOT or UNLOCK bootloader

I am currently using Nexus 7 (old) with android 4.3
I want to access a folder under /data/data/(AppName)
the permission of that folder is (rwxrwx--x)
I still haven't ROOT or UNLOCKED bootloader.
I want to use ADB to get a file there and put back.
I know that I can use the adb pull and adb push to finish this job
Anyone can help me??
someone told me in android 4.3 NO NEED TO ROOT the device and I can access /data/data/
Nope, you cannot access data/data without root.

[Q] Files access on pc after root

Hi,
First message and glad to be here.
So, here is my problem : I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted using RazriRoot2 (on JB). It went great. But when I connect my phones to my laptop on 7, I have no access to "protected files" such as those in data\data (I can access on my phone with Root Browser).
Morevoer when I copy/paste files from data\data to my SDCard, I can't access them neither with an USB card reader.
So, I tried Android commander, but it tells me it has no root access.
I read on the FAQ there are soft root and hard root, but I don't understand the difference.
Any help or ideas ??
Thanks for reading !

Thanks for answer.
I've just installed BuxyBox X app and clicked install in the app, but I don't see any imporvement any change in the phone.
Did I miss something ?
Hmm I had same problem after root and rebular Busybox dind't work so I installed Busybox X and just reastart phone. After that all works fine. Do You can write to system?? If not make flashable package with Busybox and that should fix your problem.

[Q] write error in 5.0.2

Hi
I rooted my zr with kingroot 4.1
I wanna install kali Linux by LINUX DEPLOY but I receive WRITE ERROR.
I receive that error in FOLDERMOUNT app too.
How can I fix that ?
This error is exactly:
write error: Socket operation on non-socket
I think your bootloader are locked.
Take a TA backup before unlocking so you dont lose the DRM Keys.
Are you sure root are working ok?
If i remember corectly folder mount asked me we first i started it if it should try to fix some sd permissions.

Yes my bootloader is locked.
I use solid Explorer and it have root access, in linux deploy I allowed permission too.
My problem is that I can't install kali Linux or any Linux in my phone by LINUX DEPLOY.
I try install that in internal storage or sdcard but I receive WRITE ERROR too.
What is exactly meaning of WRITE ERROR and SOCKET???

I suggest you to use Instapaper. Because it offers a Kindle app for Amazon's eReaders that let you read text-based versions of your saved articles. These text-only versions are designed to be easily read on eInk displays. You can shift the articles via USB, or set up wireless delivery via a newsletter that can be automatically downloaded to your Kindle as often as once per day. Once downloaded, the articles are accessible even when you're away from wifi.
