can not create file/folder in system area (phone already rooted) - Sony Xperia 10 Questions & Answers

I want to use root explorer to copy some file into some system folder,
root explorer can successful mount system as RW. but when I copy files, it failed and show "read-only".
the strange things is: I can rename or modify a file/ folder, for example: I can modify "build.prop" and save it successfully.
so the problem is: I can't create new files or folders, but I can modify existing file an folders?

[Q] Can not change permissions using Root Explorer

I have Root Explorer installed and I am trying to rename a file in the directory system\media and copy a new .zip file to the location. When I have executed the process it changes back to original file.
I have checked the Mount R/W button at the top of Root Explorer as well.
I have checked to make sure the superuser is in the whitelist for Root Explorer.
I also can not add .apk files to the apps folder as well.
What can I do to resolve this.
TIA.

[Q] [HOW-TO] Hide folders in file explorer

Hi,
Is there a way to hide folder from the file explorer? I found it highly annoying that the sd card is packed with apps files and folders.
I tried the add a "." to the name of a folder, and it is indeed hidding it, but then existing shortcut to files inside that folder are no longer accessible since since the path has changed from ".\Folder\file.apk" to ".\.Folder\file.apk" and thus file cannot be found.
Is there a solution?
thanks!
As posted here .
make .nomedia.txt text file in relevant folder .

[Q] where is /data/preload folder on my phone?

Hey fellas,
I need to copy a file into folder /data/preload/ .
I cannot find this folder using the root explorer. Where is it?
I know it exists (or should exist) since system gives me an error message while applying OTA updates saying that a file is missing in that folder.
I have got the file now and want to put it back.
my phone:
HTC One M7,
rooted
stock recovery
s-on
bootloader unlocked/tampered

Does anyone know?

Could it be in the system partition?
How can I access system partition?
In TWRP recovery I see an option named "mount" when I select it only the "data" in ticked.
Should I tick "system" as well, and it will mount the system partition? If so, then i can probably use the file browser of TWRP, find the data/preload folder and copy the missing file back in place. right?
download root browser, there is a free edition from play store as soon as you open it you will see the data folder on the list, its not in system, that's a separate folder.
you will need to copy the preload folder and its contents to that folder and change the permissions of the folder and contents.
you need to be rooted to use it.

Thanks Seanie.
So by default that folder does not exist? That's why I couldn't find it then!
I created the folder via root browser. What should be the permission for folder/apk file ?
now the preload folder permissions are rwsrwsrwt and apk file permissions are rw-rw----
does it make sense or should I change permission of filder and file both to 777 or 666 ?

It does initially exist, but if you've been flashing custom rom's and recoveries, then when you clear data it gets deleted, set permissions to rw-r-r- for the apk's etc and rwxr-xr-x for the folder

Question How i can edit build.prop and other files in system folder?

Hello.
Successfully rooted note 10s, but if i try to edit build.prop file in system or vendor folder, i take a zero length file...
How it can be edited?
1. use a decent file manager (i reccomend Material Files)
2. you need to remove some useless stuff, or else it won't save
Try X-plore. Just set to show hidden files.
i use root browser
work for me root browser
