Screen Flickering when All Animations are Off - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Good day! Has anyone tried putting all animations off under developer options? Do you notice the screen flickering? Has anyone experience this? And is there any fix?

You probably notice this flickering when the OLED screen isn't at 100% brightness, due to Pulse Width Modulation.
Let's hope for DC Dimming to be available from Xiaomi or other ROMs/Kernels in the future.

Ps. I just stumbled upon this
miblog [.co/] redmi-k20-eea-10-3-7-0-pfjeuxm
where the author mentions screen flickering also. He suggests;
SOLUTION#7: Use app called “OLED Saver” as a temporary fix.

Nexus 7 screen flicker: a potential software fix

I think I might have a software fix for the Nexus 7 screen flicker.
Screen flickers in low brightness and when using WiFi.
To solve this I am using an app called Screen Filter.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor[/url]
When I want to dim the screen I first turn the brightness UP and then use screen filter to lower it back to the level I actually want to use. This gives me a dim screen, and I have not notices any flickering when hitting WiFi. Does this work for anyone else?
This does only mask the problem for those that has it. It does not actually solve the problem. It has been covered multiple times in other threads.

I had what I would consider serious flicker and using Lux immediately and completely eliminated the problem.

ANYONE KNOW HOW DO WE TURN THIS &*# OFF - ''content-based dynamic contrast''

And yes I did make the title CAPS, because I am a bit cross they thought this would be a good idea.
Personally I don't think our screens need this feature....
It seems the nexus 6 has this 'automatic contrast brightness' feature built in.
Really, i cant think why.
I am really enjoying the phone, but for me the brightness just is not up to scratch (unfortunately) but hey hoo.
Anyway, i noticed this happening to mine. Start chrome for example, for a split second the screen is bright then it dims down.
I would say this is software setting, but it seems there is no access to it, can it be fixed by kernel setting or some other rom mod?
Cheers

Do you have Adaptive brightness turned on in the Display settings?
are you noticing this at full brightness?

Hi, yes it is off as is ambient display...
As stated in the OP, this is built in on the Nexus 6 as it is with the LG2 also i think.
It would be great if we where able to disable it, but from what I have read about Content-based Dynamic Contrast it might be kernel related or something within the rom...
Does anyone have any info on this CDC feature?
Cheers

There is no such thing. Do you have any reliable reference that it's a feature of the N6? I can only find one article from "PC Pro UK" whatever that website is.
What does happen like it happens with most if not all OLED (and Plasma btw) is that the screen has a max overall brightness it can achieve. If you have a small white square it will be able to get brighter than if you had the whole screen white.
In practice I don't notice it though, with the phone turned to max brightness and then opening a mostly white empty Chrome page.
Are you running stock? I don't have this type of issue unless I have adaptive brightness on.

Colour screen issue - phosphorite colours

Hello. Issue is the screen all of a sudden turns into very phosphorite colours. I've searched for any similar issue here in xda and have not seen anyone else with this problem..
In another forum (Spanish only) various people have reported the same issue after my post there. And in most of the cases the issue seems to show up after watching a video/movie potentially related with Netflix and/or HDR.
Rebooting solves the issue. And another person reported that after leaving the phone locked for some time the colours were back to normal...
Have note 8 for less than a month and this has happened 2 times already.
I post here as audience will be wider.
Anyone with same issue or idea?
Thx a lot

I think we're waiting on pics. Phosphorite is a rock, so I'm not sure what phosphorite colour means.
sounds some settings in the screen mode were changed. when it happens again, dont reboot just go toggle a few different setting and see if it fixes it. also, having tinted colors(phosphorous?) seems as RGB got changed under the advanced settings in the display mode settings.
I do know some apps are be able to change brightness so mybe other can change color settings? some sort of a blue light filter or 'night' mode?( tint to a warmer shade?)

Is it only when you're charging? I have my screen saver set to colour, and I'd describe those as psychedelic. But I just have to touch the screen to make it stop.
Haha. Yes phosphorite is probably not the right word... the screen turns into fluorescent colours (like in a highlighter pen). Hope this clarifies... let's see if it happens again and I take some pictures.
Thanks for the responses so far

Screen Flickering

Hello,
Has anyone experienced their Pixel 4xl screen flickering? Mine will flicker then the screen will change colors. It happens every now and then. Could this be due to the 90hz display? Trying to figure out if this hardware or a software issue.
occasionally on low brightness or right after unlocking
noticed it on 2 others too in the shop

I've noticed it at even medium brightness. I'm not a big fan of adaptive brightness, so I turned that off and still experienced the flickering. I tried forcing the 90hz and it didn't seem to fix it. I am considering RMA the device.

ive seen this on 2 other pixel 4 XLs
it flickers / changes colors for a split second then goes to normal, almost like its syncing the calibration after unlock

Did you return them? I contacted Google and have a replacement on the way. I'm wondering what the likelihood of me getting another one that has this issue.

Question OnePlus 10 Pro Charging and Screen Display Issue (always on display)

Hello XDA Community,
I'm seeking assistance with a peculiar problem I've been encountering with my OnePlus 10 Pro.
The issue manifests as a persistent black clock display whenever the phone is locked. This display seems to prevent the screen from turning off as it should when the device is not in use. This not only affects the phone's battery life but also my overall user experience.
Additionally, I've observed a concerning correlation between this black clock screen and the device's charging speed. When the black clock screen is active, my OnePlus 10 Pro doesn't seem to charge at the speed I've come to expect from this device. This is particularly problematic as I rely heavily on the phone's acclaimed quick charging feature.
Has anyone else encountered this issue or can offer any advice? I would greatly appreciate any insights or potential solutions.
This screen is probably "ambient display" but on screen option I have disabled this in Wallpapers & style and always-on display is disabled.
Thank you in advance for your help.
I have had this with the fingerprint button showing after the screen is off, I got around it by turning it on then rebooting and retesting then changing the feature to off and then rebooting then testing again...
The problem occured after a firmware update, so if you've changed region or performed an update then that may be why.
Definitely something that shouldn't be happening.
I don't have "wise charging" turned on or wireless charging, or any kind of AOD feature, cycling and rebooting between each change should help, least it did for me.
I google this case and this can be ambient display by google but I dont have any option to disable it

Again, just cycle AOD to on then reboot.. then turn it off then reboot.
Then retest.
It simply shouldn't be on at all, so did you update recently?
