Camera Apps with Manual mode and RAW capture for the ultra wide and tele lenses? - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Are there any camera apps with manual mode and RAW capture for the ultra wide and tele lenses? I don't mind having to use a separate app for each

The S10 can be RAW and has a Pro mode (manual). Are you unsatisfied as an ultra-wide 13-millimeter camera?

From what I understand the pro mode only works with the primary lense...I'm coming from the LG G6 and that has a pro mode that you can use with both the primary and wide angle lens and would like to be able to do the same with the S10

Nope, none I've found, and the API for the ultra wide and tele lenses isn't open so unlikely to get any unless Samsung make a change in a future firmware update (unlikely I think - the S9 also has the same limitation and there's been no change).
If it really matters to you, consider the P30 or P30 Pro, which do have pro and dng support on all rear cameras. But I think the main RYYB sensor on those isn't ready for prime time and has colour skew issues even with the May software update, saying this as a previous owner, I get better photos from the s10 in auto with HEIC or JPG.

Google Camera Mod for P20 Pro

Hello @Arnova8G2,
I saw your work with the Google Camera Mod for various phones and I just want to say impressive work! I am using the Huawei P20 Pro and absolutely hates the Front Camera functionality. Tried to download your file to use on my phone but was unable to do so. When I try downloading it is says there as a problem parsing the package. Do you by any chance know if it would work with the P20 Pro? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
Dear @Arnova8G2 & @miniuser123,
I had S8 and you do fantastic job porting Pixel Xl 2 camera to all SD845 phones. And some other make port for LGV30 dual camera - rear camera and second wide angle camera.
Please make Pixel Xl 2 camera port for Huawei P20 Pro for 40MP, 10MP and camera zoom 3x, 5x.

It makes absolutely no sense to do 40MP. It's the inferior mode, and processing overhead would be insane for HDR, even with full optimisation (which you'll never see on a port). It wouldn't work.
Only 10MP makes sense.
5x is a hybrid zoom. You'd need the Huawei software. Google Camera currently has no such functionality. Not that it supports any optical zoom (3x) by default either.
You can perhaps hope for 10MP with working HDR+ and front camera. Anything else? I'd say it's completely unrealistic / unnecessary.
After the software updates, the only thing I'd really see Google Camera as being useful for is the front camera and / or for AOSP when that becomes stable on the P20 Pro. But by then, a working port of Huawei Camera on the P20/Pro is quite likely - or at least more likely, and certainly more desirable than a Google Camera port.

Yes, I am just hoping for the Front Camera to have the same Portrait Mode as the Google Camera as the Beauty Mode post-processing is through the roof even with it turned to zero. I am just hoping to use the Front Camera I have on the P20 to achieve the same Portrait result as I did from the Pixel 2 XL. Everything else about the P20 camera I can live with. Thank you.

Yes! Finally someone who has the same struggle as I have!
P20 pro is a pretty expensive phone and I am beginning to feel disappointed with the less than stellar quality of its front camera.
I know that its a fixed focus lens on the front but how come Gogle Pixel was able to implement a sharp shooter front camera with a fixed focus? To think that it has 24 Megapixels?!?! Such a scam

I don't think you understand what scam means.
Also, whilst not ideal, I suggest you learn how to work with fixed focus. You will not get bad results with it if you do, now that 'beauty' is in check.

Hi @mudnightoil,
sorry for the rather strong term that I used. But yes, I have been trying to learn some workarounds with a fixed focus front camera. It's just that, it's difficult to adjust because I was just so used to autofocus front cameras like Asus Selfie. I just feel like the 24 megapixel camera of the p20 pro is a wasted potential.
Another argument that I have is with Google Pixel's 8 mp fixed focus lens producing more vivid and sharper selfies than P20 pro's 24 mp.
Both the background and the foreground are sharp. Dynamic range is better! I mean come on! I really hope it could be fixed via software update very soon!

Update:
Other than the shortcomings of the front camera, I have no other complaints with the P20 pro.

Same issue here ...the rear cameras are great ..but the front camera beautification is just too agressive even when set to zero . A google camera mod with HDR+ in just 10mp for rear camera and portrait enabled on both the front and rear will be really helpful .
someone has any idea what's changed on this camera mod?

That's not a GCam port, that's to install the P20 Pro Camera software on a non-pro P20.
So far as I'm aware you'll need the libs to get it to work properly.
Tbh the pro has a monster camera set up.
The 40mp is more for landscape pics, the 10 for point and shoot.
the selfie cam has been great for me so far.
But then I've only had it since 11am 24th may so I'm sure I'll find some issues.
The rear cameras are great and on average they take better pictures than my Pixel 2. I also end up with pictures that I just otherwise would never have been able to capture with another cameraphone. There are some downsides though where I would love to use a hypothetical GCam port. Outdoor photography is a chore thanks to the auto "greenery" AI thing that cranks the saturation. The 10 MP auto mode also oversharpens like crazy. Pro mode is sometimes useful, but you lose things like HDR or aperture simulation which are lame tradeoffs.
The biggest issue for me though is the front camera, which is completely unusable thanks to the beauty mode that can't actually be fully disabled. I'm using Retrica right now which works pretty well but you lose the nice aperture/bokeh simulation of the P20 camera app. Small price to pay for a human looking face, but anyway that's mainly why I'm hoping for a GCam port.
I am very interested in development. Maybe it's possible.

I've tested the 40MP on everything... it's fantastic. The detail I get out of each picture is a huge step up even from my old DSLR. Granted, I did not have an expensive lens, but the processing power on this phone easily surpasses that camera!

we get best results with 10mpx AI OFF
what do you set when you shot 40mpx?

The 10MP mode is superior in almost any setting. Hence why it's the default mode. That the 40MP mode is even exposed is mainly for marketing reasons.

That's not the case at all from my experience comparing 10 vs 40 vs 3x zoom in various situations.
In low light, 40mp is poor, but in well lit places, 40mp is far more detailed, less over-sharpened, and significantly nicer overall.
It's generally less processed, and HDR etc doesn't seem to be enabled on it, but it's certainly not inferior to 10mp in general, but is occasionally.
If you want to do any post processing, the 40mp is probably better in general... though I guess few would want to do this!

P30 Pro Panorama with super wide camera?

Hi to all,
On the day when P30 Pro was announced, director from Hiawei sad that P30 Pro have now better Panorama mod, with super wide angle camera.
But from the launch day, I haven't see any P30 Pro super wide panorama.
Did anyone's have this option on P30 Pro?

I'm on v161(C431) and there's no panoramic photos with super wide angle. I'll report back after updating to v178 (in a couple of days) if there's any change to Panorama mod.
If you want to make a panorama using the wide angle lens, then there is a workaround. I use an app called 'Bimostitch' which can make panoramas from a group of photos.

The telephoto sensor on the k20/pro is fake

Hi guys i just bought the redmi k20 pro and i figured out that the telephoto is indeed fake its just a depth sensor not a telephoto , and everyone can test that just by covering the top camera sensor with you finger and switch to the 2x lens and it will show you what are you aiming on but if you switch to portrait mode it will be blocked by your finger, so the 2x zoom is just an electronic one, we r not fools xiaomi , keep real with us
use pro mode to use the telephoto
Wrong. Use Gcam and you will have options to shoot with tele.
The miui portrait mode dont use tele to shoot picture.

yeah thats what i said and im talking about the stock camera and the default mode why the supposed telephoto is used for portrait mode if its not a real sensor or just a depth one ?

To be honest, a telephoto can get better portrait pictures due to its depth of focus. Xiaomi does use telephoto lens to get portrait images, in k20/k20 pro. So does OnePlus (7 pro). I guess you also have option to use main camera for portrait if you don't like telephoto lens.

Another reason: to implement the same, a depth sensor is cheaper implementing, rather than using a lens( telephoto lens).
That is why some smartphones went with giving 8MP 2x zoom from a 16MP sensor.

P30 pro vs gcam of other phones

I've seen posts in photographers forums that the P30 pro is not so useful for cropping because it blurs the details after one zooms in. In fact, one person said LG V30 with gcam is better than p30 pro but he didnt provide images for comparison.
Has anyone tried to do a side by side comparison of p30 pro vs gcam of other phones in terms of cropping? I prefer to always zoom in and see architectural features e.g. Islamic mosaics etc. Cheers.

Unfortunately there's GCam far away better than P30 PRO, specially for people pictures.
I have a friend with a Redmi Note 7 with GCam and the level of details is impressive.
What I also don't understand is why can't the app switch to wide angle items with 40mp setting... Any workaround for that?
Sent from my VOG-L29 using Tapatalk
The truth is P30 pro has very good camera. Just nothing (yet) can't quite compare to the gcam result. Google is using their own digital processing zoom (super Res zoom) which is excellent. If you compare for example stock v30 camera results with this from p30 pro - I will give the prize to Huawei .
And about using wide angle with 40mp...ummm the wide angle lens is not 40mp, that's why. Or I don't understand the post properly.
If you want the best quality use profesional mode, the best resolution (20mp-0.6x, 40mp-1x and 8mp-5x) and raw with all lens.
Only work in 0.6x 1x and 5x
And also you can use open camera (but only 1x lens) and gcam (not 100% work) %

Yes that True, P30 Pro really terrible in People Picture and their portrait for people also easy beaten by GCam (Pixel Family) :crying:, for me P30 Pro king on LOW LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY.....

General Macro Shots

I found a way to take good macro shots without having focus difficulties and without using additional physical lens.
Im using BSG gcam (MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1m) with Wichaya-8.1-1.2-Dennis-mi11Ultra.xml.
But i bet you can use other Gcam versions as well
Im using Digital Zoom with the Ultrawide by selecting ultrawide 0.6x and then pinching with fingers so it uses up to 10x digital zoom and doesn't change to the main lens.
I also leave the Automatic Focus ON, i tried the other focus types but its better for Gcam to do it automatically.
I read that, Its the Ultrawide that has the Macro features, but for some reason on Xiaomi stock camera when you use it it changes to the main camera.
Here's some examples, I haven't tested much besides these coins but I think it's the right way to go about it.
I also use the max Digital zoom 10x but i bet you can reduce abit to achieve better quality.
I also tried with my skin and fingertips and it can focus real good as close range.
If you tried it send some examples here.
Thanks for sharing this! I just tried to do a few macro shots on the stock camera and then pinched in a little bit from 0.6x to 0.9x with my fingers as well. I couldn't force a higher Hybrid Zoom on the UW on stock though but it still looked great imo.
The results turned out better than I expected (I'm running the latest v21.8.11 Xiaomi.eu weekly).

The camera is pretty disappointing in some respects for an ultra premium camera phone
In some comparisons on YouTube the regular mi 11 took better pics than the ultra and they have decided to use the 108mp camera in the mi mix 4 so i guess they realise this one was a dud
Regular cam seems ok for macro if you move back a few inches and then zoom in
Use the main lens in 50MP mode and crop. FAR better macro than using the ultra wide.
