Moto z3 Questions - Moto Z3 Play Questions & Answers

I have been off XDA for a few years. I recently got a Verizon Moto Z3 put onto another carrier other than Verizon, It is working well but I am curious if I would be able to Flash a Stock Non Bloated Rom (likely a Verizon rom Id assume, since its a Verizon phone originally) to the device with out affecting its port over... please provide any help you may be able to. Phone was taken from Verizon and moved to Metro by Tmobile. If you need additional details please ask.
I am familiar with Odin and the Flashing process, just a few yearas out of practice.
Thanks

Need T-Mobile LTE on rooted Verizon LG G2

My son and I rooted his Verizon LG G2 with ioroot. FreeGee verified that the phone is rooted. We then tried to backup his efs's but got an error message saying that the it wasn't compatible with the software (even though it is supposed to work on his phone). This leaves us not knowing where to turn next. We can't do anything without backing up the imei first and then need software for the LTE.
This is all so new to us. Can someone tell us which direction to go from here? I know some people say they have T-Mobile LTE on their Verizon LG G2 phone but we just get 3G and were told we'd have to root it (done) and install Rom software to accomplish this. We need software to back up EFS"s (recovery software software) and then software like Paranoid Android for the rest. Trouble is Paranoid Android doesn't really support our phone.
Please help!
Information on his phone:
Verizon LG G2 4G
VS980
Hardware version: RVE 1.0
Android 4.4.2
Software Version: VS98-24A
TIA!!!

You should be able to back up your current rom with EFS via TWRP, is that what you're trying to do?
I think whether or not you get tmo lte on the vzw g2 would depend upon which band lte is available on in your location and if (at all) the vzw g2 supports that band. Its a hit and miss. This is a common issue for Most people using the vzw g2 (or any other vzw high end device with the unlocked gsm sim slot). You will be able to use 3g, but lte is erratic, and in most cases doesnt work.

[Q] How to remove CSC files from stock rom

Hi,
As some of you may know, Lollipop has came out on what is the closest thing to a T-Mobile phone, the W8 has started getting that update.
There is a thread that exists on how you can port the W8 to your T-Mo and run Lollipop right now.
I'm in a bit of a different situation. I have a W8 phone but on Rogers, which is the only carrier in Canada that has been left out because they are not releasing 5.0.1 but are holding out for 5.0.2. I'm getting the S6 edge this week and dont want to wait until Rogers move their butt. I wanted to know, does anybody know how i can remove just the CSC files from the stock rom and be able to flash on my Rogers phone? The post quoted above shows how to do it but it also adds a few steps to port on T-Mo phone, does anybody know what steps i have to disregard?
FYI for anybody in my situation, i found a stock rom in Note 4 International section that does what I wanted

Question for upgrading to Lollipop 5.0

I purchased an unlocked verizon LG g2 and running T-mobile carrier.
how can I upgrade to Lollipop? I did not see any updates
Thanks.
The VS980 is unlocked regardless. You can upgrade to lollipop and still use it on Tmobile with no issues.
The only thing is that you are running a verizon rom, with apps geared toward verizon. BUT if it works fine now, it will work the same on Lollipop.
I would recommend rooting, installing TWRP, and manually upgrading to the official Tmobile Lollipop build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g2/development/rom-t-mobile-20g-rom-vs980-1-16-15-t3004979
This rom is MADE for the VS980 to run on Tmobile. It is just the official Tmobile rom that is tweaked to be flashable on our Verizon models. You will gain WiFi Calling and other Tmobile special features.
The good thing is you have lots of options. No matter what rom you install, you should still have no problem working with Tmobile.
No offense to above, but here is the real answer: connect phone to PC via USB cable. Click Verizon upgrade assistant. Install and run. Done.

Hahaha. Yup. I read it as "Can I upgrade to Lollipop on the VS980 and still use it on Tmobile".
Thank you all !
It took me a while to figure out where to find the Software Upgrade Assistant (LG) and make it work.
in case someone else like me cannot find how to install the Software Upgrade Assistant (LG), I attached a link below.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-105461/
and still, it took me another 20 minutes to figure out on the installation.
please try to switch to another usb port if the first one does not show up the LG screen....
btw, I am still trying to upgrade to LP with my T-Mobile SIM inside and might need your help as well....one step at a time...
:crying:
Still having issues?

[Q] Rooting N900A to Lollipop while using T-mobile.

Ugh, I am having so many issues with this at the moment. One of those things being that I am using T-mobile as my carrier. I'm stuck on 4.4 at the moment, and need to update it. But, will that relock the phone? How do I re-unlock it if that happens? I've already read that I can't flash the phone to T-mobile ROM, but are there any custom ROMs that you would recommend [I do actually use the S-pen, not sure if any have been updated to where that can still be used.] Lastly, is there any way to get mobile hotspot and tethering to work now that I am using tmobile?

I never tried this Rom.
T-Mobile Alliance Lollipop Rom on ATT Note 3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/t-mobile-alliance-rom-att-note-3-t3065127 I don't think you would have to worry about any of this as you are using T-Mobile " After the phone came up, I went to settings..general..applications...running .... and found every Tmobile app and cleared cache and disabled them. The real important one here is the Visual Voicemail. Otherwise it will keep on trying to contact Tmobile and then you will get text messages saying there is an error. Thanks @sapps
Wifi Calling is throwing a sim card error (as you would expect). Only problem is it is shown in status bar and lockscreen. I'm sure there is a way to hide it or disable it. I just haven't had a chance to figure it out."

But it's the N900A, so it's the AT&T version. Won't that brick the phone if I put the tmobile ROM on it? That's what I've read in other threads on here anyway. [Honestly I shouldn't write when I'm tired, or I would have explained this better.]. Basically, I bought an unlocked AT&T phone. A Note 3 to be exact. It's stuck on 4.4 but can upgrade to lolipop. Nothing I try will let me upgrade the normal way. I'm not sure how to upgrade it without relocking the SIM card somehow. Or is the simcard already semi-locked and that's why it's giving me the error? I also can't even find a AT&T specific rooting guide for this phone. I saw every other carrier except AT&T, does that even make a difference? And are there any ROMs that can return S-pen programs after I install them, or should I just stop at rooting if I want that? If so, I just really want to upgrade to lollipop and root the phone. I would like my mobile hotspot and wifi calling to work, but I suppose I can make do with hangouts.

It won't brick you phone. It's a T-Mobile Rom that's been ported for AT&T Note 3. After you flash the Rom, you have to Odin the N900A_OC1_ALL_Other_Stock_Partitions.tar.md5 using Odin's PDA slot. As far as rooting what you have now, just use Towel root https://towelroot.com/ (install on phone like any other app) and click "make it rain". Install Supersu, busybox and Safestrap. OR use Kingo Root http://www.kingoapp.com/ (Kingo Root will install supersu for you). The reason it won't upgrade to Lollipop is you have a T-Mobile sim card in it. It needs a AT&T sim card (I have AT&T and can't upgrade mine unless the sim card is in the phone). If you just want a rooted Lollipop Rom, but it's AT&T http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59666958&postcount=2 You know since you're on T-Mobile you have to go into settings>more networks>mobile networks>access point names and change it to T-Mobile's APN. I would just root it and put the T-Mobile Alliance Lollipop Rom on ATT Note 3 on it. I gave it a try yesterday and it does have T-Mobile apps on it, just not for me. Just remember to change the APN to T-Mobile's ( just write down the one you using now).

Switched carriers from AT&T to MetroPCS, how best to update android os?

I've tried Samsung support, Best Buy, UbreakIfixit for support but no real answers.
Three years ago I switched carriers from AT&T to MetroPCS so I'm still on Jellybean 4.3. Important apps are no longer supported, wells fargo for example, the app for my electric car, etc. How can I get my phone updated to the latest android version? I'm somewhat technical, i know how to back up, i know how to read and follow instructions. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Barry
You require AT&T forum not this one .
Basics are flash stock rom via Odin .
AT&T never released a full ROM beyond 4.1.2 for Odin as all AT&T ROM updates were released via OTA.
If the phone is on a stock 4.3 ROM, you could try removing the sim card and running OTA updates via wi-fi. If that doesn't work, insert an AT&T sim, then try to update via wi-fi. If this does not work, this may help at least get the phone on KK: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/kitkat-4-4-4-n900aucudnl1-odin-tars-t2999317
