What type of connector is this? - Off-topic

I've lost the charging cable for my motorcycle Bluetooth unit and after about 20mins googling to find a new one with no success I thought I'd come and ask you clever chaps to see if you could shed any light !!
It smaller than both a micro and a mini usb, will I be able to buy a replacement or is this some sort or proprietary port? I'll include a pic below for your perusal !!

I had figured out how to see the image...
You just need to copy the image link itself...
As far as the connector... It looks like it's a USB Type C. The cable your trying to use is a Micro USB.
Their very different and I've seen them get confused and even ruined the two.
Good Luck!

No it is mini USB the one which was before micro USB.

I used the micro usb cable for comparison in the pic, it's not mini or micro usb it's actually smaller than both...
My concern is that it's some sort of propietary port that in not going up be able up get hold of.

I believe I might have that connector stored away. What manufacture is the Bluetooth unit? If you can't find the cable you need with that connector let me know and I'll try to find it. If I have it I'll send it to you.

I m not sure, but it looks similar to the micro hdmi port that my sony Xperia had... Ages ago... Please check it...

My money is on the mini HDMI cable port.
Jason

That is ether Mini USB B 4pin, and before you dismiss it I know it is not Mini B 5pin that we all know it is not.
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=106
Otherwise it is as someone else said and is the same Mini B that is used on Sony Cyber Shot cameras. This is the one I think it is

UC-E6
Hey, isn't that a UC-E6 (8 pin mini USB) connector used on a lot of digital cameras?
Google 'UC-E6 cable' for comparison.

Micro HDMI i think

That is NOT a usb-c port. What u r trying to USE is a micro-usb. Idk about the other one tho.

[HACK] Hardware HDMI/MicroSD Hack? Unused Pins/Connectors

HI! i've found some pics of the nexus 7 motherboard and some connectors seems to be unused... If you look at the "con1" (the one used for micro usb connection) it has 22 pins 0_o. Maybe we can find a hardware hack =D
More images here
We could do a "simple" (dangerous) test: HDMI has a hot plug detection pin, the only way to check is provide one pin with +5v dc and check if any other pin sends a ddc query.... but how can we find the hotplug pin (if there's any)?

From the teardown it was pretty clear there was space for the rear camera as well as HDMI.
The IO presenters were using units with HDMI, so it was probably the same motherboard, populated.
You would have to be a hard-core hacker to want toi add your own HDMI. No idea what is missing beside header and connector. Probably not as bad as adding MHL
I am happy living without HDMI.
Maybe I will never use the hdmi connector but hacking electronical things when i have to hack biological ones every day is a nice way to spend the time xD

Can't back it up right now but will frantically google to find it.. But I remember reading that it had the hardware for mhl but currently not enable in software?
but just tested my jellybeaned gnex and that works fine with mhl so not sure how much truth there is to that.
I can vouch for the photo of a Nexus 7 with an HDMI port, as well as a comment from a presenter that the special units they were using for presentations had HDMI.
No, I can not provide any links. That was thousands of pages ago...
I do not believe the Nexus 7 has the MHL chip, or any provision for it. Asus is not listed as a MHL provider.
Samsung (Nexus) is a MHL provider, so the hardware there would not be a surprise.
In that teardown review (where the OP got that image, I believe), they mistakenly said it supported HDMI out and included a picture of the HDMI cable from the nexus Q. They later retracted that comment.
That might be the source of the confusion.
There was at least one actual picture of a Nexus 7 with an HDMI port on the bottom.
I think a reviewer got their hands on a presenter's unit.
The image you're looking for is in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736916
The internel dev versions (the ones used for presentations) had mini hdmi.
So, it does make sense that theres space on the board.
Thank you for that picture link! I searched everywhere for that...
At least that is one less reason to think I have lost my mind...
I'd love to be able to solder on an sdcard slot, if that's all that's needed. It's generally pretty easy to solder to headers if you're careful about it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
From the teardown, I don't recall seeing any space for an SD card.
Rear camera - yes, HDMI - yes, but not SD Card.
I could be mistaken...
Also, the external storage problem has been pretty much solved with a USB OTG cable and stickmount.
we could solder a slod for an additional sd card... there's enaught space to fit in a sd card without "external" access.

we're counting pins and waiting for more info =P
look here: http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/KjNsrjlvHZdFWEGF.huge
we have 14 free pins and an hdmi data connection requires only 12 wires + 5v + grnd.
i'm looking for someone who can do some simple tests on the unused pins.
when i will have the nexus 7 i'll do it by myself at uni but maybe someone who have the I/O version now could do something meantime.
Looks pretty interesting to me hope we cram a sd card In there somewhere.

MHL adapter in back of dock

SImple question,
if you buy a charging dock can you simply put the MHL adapter in the back into the micro usb port and have it charge/video out at the same time?
clearly the new 11 pin dock for an s3 or n2.
i couldnt see why this wouldnt work but just want to make sure. im planning on a nice little setup via HDMI and bluetooth keyboard/mouse.
The setup you describe worked with my galaxy tab 7" plus but not with my galaxy s3, so I'd be interested in the answer to this aswell
For me, i search the Saint Graal, a charging dock and transfer data with :
- Audio line-out
- HDMI
- USB
- Port SD ...
It's only a dream ???
it will work with Phones that doesn't have the extra pins that Samsung put in the micro USB port in the Note 2/S3 unless that dock has these pins unfortunately it wont work.

^^would the samsung adapter 5-11pin adapter work that you can buy for a few bucks?
i feel this is reasonable since a dock is simply an extension in some plastic.
The official smart dock has:
HDMI
3USB ports (you could plug in an sd card adapter)
3.5mm out
micro usb sync/charge in
cost 64.95 euros i think

Kidigi also do one: http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1418 but it apparently won't sync with a PC, so it's just an MHL dock. Doesn't look like it'll charge the phone well either as it outputs 500mA

Storage Solution: My Personal Take

I've been working on a little project of my own for the past few days, trying to fit the largest amount of storage into the smallest space. Here's the current version:
{

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And here's what's under the heatshrink:
It's an 8GB drive, but I could easily do it again with up to 32GB of storage. I shorted the 5th pin to ground, so it is properly recognized as though it were plugged into an OTG cable. The Micro USB connector is attached to the memory with JB Weld epoxy. I used a SanDisk Cruzer FIT USB drive to make this.

That could work well. I'm currently waiting for the JB Weld to fully cure. This one was more of a proof-of-concept, if I make another it should look better and have more storage.

Does this drain the battery any quicker?
Let's say if you were using it to read data off constantly?
It looks dumb, they should have built it with an SD slot or have a 32gb model, will not buy until it does.
Good job to the Op - I don't see this sort of affair as a problem because I'd only need the extra storage while it's not connected to a charger or PC anyway.
But... Would it be possible for someone to make a very small USB connector that folds around the back (like a ribbon-cable sort of affair) to avoid the risk of snapping in the pocket - that way you could stick the SD Card on the back of the phone when you're using it.

Go buy a different phone with a sd slot and stop complaining, the OP's work is innovative to say the least, we'll done! A thought tho, a bumper case with built in storage device on the back, a small ribbon cable to a micro-usb connector in the bottom of it and voilà...
Edit: Previous post got in between, hehe... This is what you get for taking a break to smoke and chit-chat before typing out the last and posting... No offense, two people, same kinda idea! Awesome.
Tapatalked from my h4x0r3d up Maguro.
The way I see it:
Use a thick(ish) case, to protect the glass.
Make a mod like this, but with longer, flat cable.
Carve a hole in the case to accommodate and protect this all.
Use wireless charging since the microUSB port will be occupied at all times.
PROFIT.

PQI Micro USB drives/OTG solutions [Engadget]

Hey guys, I just saw this article on Engadget. Apparently the company PQI had a lot of micro usb drives and storage solutions at Computex. Most of these won't be available until Q3 this year though, but definitely worth a look!

They briefly go through each one, there are 6 in all with different quirks and things.

According to the article, it is a usb drive with either 16 or 32 gb.
Here is another one that is similar to the kickstarter one, but it also has the standard usb connector on one end and the housing slides to expose the micro usb connector on the other end. I like how the micro sd card slides into the usb connector.
