Need Help with Magisk - Magisk

Hello Friends!
Straight up: I am somewhat tech-savvy but my skill level is quite low with android stuff -- I have spent a lot of time reading and trying to figure it all out. I realize I just need help to find the best path forward.
Basically, I rooted my Samsung A50 using the Odin with magisk_patched.tar. I did not install TWRP or CWM on the phone.
It worked amazingly!
...at first. Then I deleted some modules that I tried to check out.....
===> then Magisk Manager displayed "Magisk in not installed" and it seemed like root access was no longer available.
===> Clicked install
===> Would you like to Install Magisk 19.3?
===> Clicked Install ===> Given choice to 'Download Zip Only' or 'Select and Patch a File' -- I tried selecting and patching 'magisk_patched.tar' which seemed to work but now I believe the phone is in a bootloop (Samsung logo is displaying without getting anywhere)
I have everything on the phone backed up. I have 'magisk_patched.tar' on my PC.
I wanted to wipe the phone and re-do the whole process.
I then ===> reflashed 'magisk_patched.tar' file using odin in download mode.
It seemed to work at first -- the stock ROM was asking for language, privacy agreements, etc.
But it reboots within 30 seconds of android starting - I can't get past the privacy agreements.
It was stuck in a loop.
Then I tried to ===> flash TWRP using Odin (instructions here: https://www.******.com/root-samsung-galaxy-a50-with-magisk/)
Now I cannot access recovery.
I feel really F-ed.
Any suggestions? Any recommendations for tutorials?
I *really* appreciate any help!
And I apologize for being pretty inept at this stuff

Try to flash Stock ROM via ODIN (full ROM, not only bootloader!).
Get into the system passing start up wizards etc.
Then you can flash patched bootloader once again.
Note: remember to flash corresponding version of bootloader with ROM. Do not flash elder version of bootloader on newer version of ROM.
It will work for you.

thank you!
this worked.
Should I install TWRP? I am currently using the Magisk patched rom + Odin method.
Can I use TWRP Manager or something like that now that I have root access to install TWRP on the Samsung A50?
Thank you for your help!!!

It depends on why do you need TWRP.
What else except root do you need? Full man droid backup? Or something else...?

Flash twrp recovery in odin ( uncheck auto reboot in odin options )
After flash twrp in odin remove battery an insert again and press 3 buttons together (volume up +home+power) for few seconds until you will see recovery boot on top left corner and let go all buttons.
Boot into twrp and flash supersu.zip systemless.
Reboot and wait untilyour phone boot completely.
Your phone may restart 2 times its normal dont freak out.
100% tested & working .
Try on your own risk

The latest version of CF-Autoroot is matched to EPG2. That information is given on Chainfire's download page for Autoroot. I've heard that it works with EPJ2 but when it comes to Odin, pushing your luck is a bad idea.

Both of these archives are easily downloadable directly from their developers at https://dl.twrp.me/trltetmo/ and http://www.supersu.com/download
Linking to unofficial mirrors deprives developers of ad revenue. Both Chainfire and Team Win are providing incredibly useful software at no charge. The ad revenue goes a long way toward defraying hosting costs, keeping these things freely available.
Users should always download from known sources. Flashing your phone with some random .zip from Mega carries a terrible risk. You may not have any nefarious intent but that certainly isn't true in all cases. Nonetheless, your instructions are greatly appreciated. I just upgraded to EPK2 OTA and was wondering how much trouble I would have getting root back.
Hi,
I just went thru this and after messing with it for a couple of days, then did it as you suggested and it worked. And just now I ran across this page. <lol>
You wouldn't happen to know where the right PhilZ for this phone is??? I know many people love TWRP, but in the past when I've used it to restore, it's been about a 50/50 shot for me, whereas CWM/PhilZ has only failed me once in 5 years.
I have "philz_touch_6.59.0-trlte.tar" but it won't flash with Odin, so I'm thinking maybe it's the wrong one???
Btw, while Ihve got you, if I may please humbly request your expertise (I am Rooted on MM), when I use the tool I've used just fine on every other Samsung, Asus & LG device to remove Bloatware and I check them off and tell it to Uninstall them (just stuff like Facebook, Amazon, Flipboard, etc.), the apps react in one of two ways:
Fails to Uninstall -or- Immediately Reinstalls itself.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated!!!
Thank You!

Magisk on rooted LG LV3 or Aristo with TWRP

UPDATED AND EDITED
Hello everyone. I decided to edit my first post on this thread to make finding the instructions on how to Root & Install TWRP along with Magisk on the LG ARISTO or LV3 for T-Mobile/Metro PCS
WARNING:
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE, DAMAGE IT, GET IT STUCK ON BOOTLOOP, MAKE YOUR DEVICE CAUSE A NUCLEAR EXPLOSIVE, OR HAVE IT CAUSE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.
But if you follow Messi's instructions down to a tee. You shouldn't have any problem
The stock boot image has dm-verity, which prevents you from booting if you swipe to enable system modifications after flashing twrp!
SOLUTION:
Flash a root such as SuperSU or Magisk V13.3 You should also flash no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip. (although I was informed you might not need to with Magisk, again try at your own risk)
Prerequisites :
Enable OEM Unlocking and usb debugging in developer options!
Go to settings
About Phone
Software Info
And press on Build Number about 9 times
You will see a pop up notifying you that you have unlocked Developer Options
Go Back and you should see the new settings option
Enter Developer Options
Enable it, select ok
Enable OEM unlock
And finally disable Automatic System Updates
UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER
(You must be familiar with Command Prompt on Windows)
• YOUR BOOTLOADER MUST BE UNLOCKED
- reboot into fastboot [ adb reboot bootloader ]
- fastboot oem unlock [ this is going to wipe your data ]
If you have problems with the device drivers installed , you will need to install lg bridge app from lg that contains the device driver
http://tool.lime.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=PWZO7A26B9UW
How to flash the recovery:
• BOOT INTO FASTBOOT MODE:
With your phone off, connect your usb cable to your phone while holding VOLUME DOWN to boot into fastboot mode or just type [adb reboot bootloader] in the adb terminal
• ONCE YOU ARE IN FASTBOOT MODE:
Open a command prompt and type "fastboot flash recovery <path_to_recovery.img>” without the quotation marks.
Example: fastboot flash recovery C:/Users/John/Desktop/recovery.img
[don't forget to extract the downloaded recovery zip to get the recovery.img]
• WHEN THE FLASH COMPLETES: (Takes about 2 seconds)
On your phone, unplug the usb cable and power it off by taking out the battery and putting it back in.
• BOOT INTO RECOVERY MODE FOR THE FIRST TIME
HOLD VOLUME DOWN + POWER until you see the LG logo and then temporarily release the POWER button, immediately pressing and holding it back down until you see the white prompt [factory reset] screen. You will NEVER release the volume down button in this process!
Use the hard keys to select "YES" and then "YES" again to boot into TWRP!
How to Disable encryption & flash super su
1. In TWRP, go to Wipe > Format Data. Enter the keyword ‘yes‘, in the provided space and enter. This will wipe the automatically encrypted filesystem, and decrypt it.
2. Once the wiping is done, reboot back into recovery. Go to Reboot > Recovery.
3. When the recovery boots again, connect your phone to the PC and Enable MTP under the Mount section.
4. Transfer the downloaded ‘no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip’ and ‘UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip or if you wants MAGISK then the MagiskV13.zip to your internal storage or EXTSD
5. Disconnect the device now.
6. Tap on Install. Now, navigate your phone’s storage and select ‘no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip’. Finally swipe the ‘Swipe to confirm Flash’ button on the bottom of the screen.
7. The flashing process will merely take a few seconds. And when it’s done, follow the same method to flash the root package – UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip or you can flash the MAGISKV13.zip
Wait 1 or 2 minutes after the zip files are done flashing then reboot system and PROFIT! Your phone may take 3-5 minutes to boot the first time and it might boot-loop once or twice at the Metro PCS splash screen but don’t worry this is expected.

Hello everyone. I'm no stranger to rooting and TWRP. Always looking for rooting methods for wtv device I own. I currently own an LG LV3 or Aristo running Nougat 7.0 and successfully rooted it via adb as well as installed a fully functional TWRP thanks to Messi's method.
Now when it comes to Xposed I'm no novice. But unfortunately there isn't a Nougat compatible one yet. So I'm going with the alternative Magisk. But I am a complete noob when it comes to Magisk.
Can I simply flash the Magisk zip and follow the steps mentioned on the Magisk forum? Also, will MagiskSU replace my current SU without any flaws?
Any help would be appreciated

Depends on what root solution you're currently using. If you're using systemless SuperSU Magisk won't replace it, but use that instead. In that case you'll have to first remove SuperSU. If you're using any other root Magisk will try to replace it with MagiskSU (no guarantees). Also, I believe LG devices need a "bump" script, or something like that... I also believe this has been added to the Magisk code, but is not yet in the official release. If v11.1 doesn't work, you could try the unofficial beta snapshot: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/unofficial-magisk-v10-beta-built-t3521901
And just to clarify: Magisk is not an alternative to Xposed... You can do certain things with Magisk that can also be done with Xposed, but they work in completely different ways. Think of Magisk as a "file injector" where it can replace files and props on your device at boot, completely systemless. And along the same kind of thinking Xposed is a "code injector" that can alter the code of a running app. This can also be made systemless, by tools such as Magisk. @topjohnwu have hinted at ideas about making Magisk work as a "code injector", but this is purely on the idea stage at the moment and is probably quite far away in a possible future.
Take a look in the release thread and the Magisk All-In-One Wiki (both stickied at the top). They contain a lot of useful information. There's also a lot of information in the support thread, which is pretty big by now so the search function is a good tool there.
I've also collected a bunch of tips and tricks for Magisk installation and troubleshooting, and as well for Magisk Hide if you want to use that:

I almost did but I got stuck on bootloop. The only way I can think it might work would be to return to stock. Follow Messi's method for Twrp & Root. But at the point of root. U can stick with Chainfires SuperSU, or use the latest MagiskSU by Topjohnwu (would recommend)
Then just reboot the device and follow TopJohnwus method of installing Magisk.
But don't take my word for it. It's just and idea. I've yet to try it Cuz I haven't really had time. So it's up to you if u wanna give it a shot.
Or u can wait for me to try it. I was thinking of doing it 2nite. It's 930pm pst
I say around 11-12 I will be giving it another go. Wtv my results are. I will report back. Wish me luck
SUCCESS
I got Magisk to work on My LG Aristo as of today. It was just as I thought.
I went back to stock. Then I followed Messi's method to get TWRP installed. Since I already had my bootloader unlocked. I didnt need to worry about it. Just flashed TWRP via adb as Messi says to do. Unplugged my device and pulled out the battery to turn of my device. Put it back in and rebooted into recovery. Went to wipe and formatted data. Once it was done. Went back and went into Reboot. Rebootted back into recovery. Plugged my phone to my laptop, enabled mtp and transferred both the no-verity-opt-encrypt-2.1.zip file and magiskzip file. Didn't need SuperSu seeing as how Magisk alone roots the device. Flashed the no-verity-opt-encrypt-2.1.zip first and then Magiskzip. Latest version is V13.2 right now. It automatically installs Magisk Manager since it isn't available on the Play Store anymore. Rebooted system. Waited for my phone to start. Set it up and immediately tested it. And Magisk is 100% fully functional with all green checkmarks. Hope it helps. Maybe I should create a thread. Would be my first one. Don't really know how to tho. But I'll try.
Also, here are the snapshots of proof and my magisk settings to get them to pass.

Hi Ortem1UP, I get the jist of the method but not sure what the dm-verity parts are. Can you explain what this is for, and where are you getting it and what version? Is dm-verity the same as no-verity-opt-encrypt-2.1.zip that messi describes in his twrp tutorial for the Aristo?

Oh wow. So sorry. I hadn't noticed my mistake. Yes, the dm verity I accidentally mentioned is actually the no-verity-opt-encrypt zip that Messi mentions. I'll fix that mistake. Wouldn't want ppl to get confused. Thanks for that. BTW, the same method also works with the new Magisk V13.2. Just an FYI

Ortem, while I was waiting for your reply, I went ahead and flashed the magisk zip (13.2) without flashing no-verity and I was able to get it to work. I have all green checks as well with SafetyNet. So the no-verity-opt-encrypt zip file may not be needed for magisk to work and to get root/safetynet pass

No way. Seriously? Does SafetyNet always pass? Because for me it does at times and other times it doesn't. I wonder if the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip is to blame? I shall try it your way and see how that goes. Thanks for the heads up. Guess the zip is only needed for SuperSu. Not Magisk.

Yeah I'm actually passing SafetyNet sometimes as well and sometimes not. I can't figure out why that's the case. In any case, I don't think the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip is to blame given since we're both experiencing the same symptoms!

Anywho. IDK about you but ever since the latest update. I haven't had a single problem with Safety Net. It passes every time now. I hope your getting the same results?

In the "first boot" after TWRP flash process. While holding power button+vol. Down . You must let go of the volume button to make the selection "yes" then "power" to select then hold "VOL DOWN" the next option comes up. Let go press "VOL DOWN" to select "YES" still holding down push "POWER" to make final selection along with DOWN and again proceed as you would when you first went into recovery. Now this in no way a insult to the work that's put into this but I believe in order to teach those that want to learn we must combine our knowledge and create an amazing Rom:victory:

Thank you so much for all the work you have done here and for injecting this phone with a much needed revitalization.

i thinks i updated to "G935TUVS8CRJ1" can i be flash on it?
Quick question. I just used this method to root my phone (v4 bootloader, CRI2 firmware if I'm reading it right). I had been looking at the post [Rom][ALL+CARRIERS_CRF1][Stock_Oreo_Hybrid][Safestrap_Preinstalled]. That one seemed like a good deal because of the followup post on Safestrap flashable zips, like Xposed framework, Extreme Debloater, Dual Speaker, etc....
I didn't consider that ROM because of the big warning Must Be On Stock CRF1, whereas I'm on CRI2 and this looked nicer anyway.
So, just to be sure I understand, now that I've used this method to root my phone I can install all those things and more by using this technique to get into TWRP on my phone. Correct? Further, I can use TWRP in this way to flash anything except a custom bootloader. Yes?
More specifically, all those ROMs listed over in the general Tools Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Development forum that say "for G9350 only", I can use this TWRP to flash those on my G935T ?? Is that right?

Should have been aware of what you are flashing a bootloader update is always an attempt to patch something. Usually root related. It is never to benefit the user. The first indication to me would have been a 4 version jump in bootloader versions all in one shot. I warned people all along that a bootloader change would come one of these days and kill root. Sprint seen it months ago. Tmobile and Sprint can now have there cozy little relationship with one another. I feel bad for you tmobile people. Remember when tmobile was the friendly carrier in the dev community along with sprint as well now they are the most unfriendly carrier in the dev community.

No, if your build number indicates that you're on the v8 bootloader, you're screwed for now. If you like the S7's features, you can grab an Exynos. Those you can root and modify to your heart's content. Plenty of custom ROMs available. It's not too expensive either. It's what I'm going to upgrade to, since I'm tired of this bull with the bootloader, and my glass is cracked anyway. Would probably cost nearly as much to repair as to just buy an Exynos.

That's a false positive by a single antivirus program. VirusTotal gives it clean on 54 out of 56 antivirus programs, and one of those is merely "suspicious," probably because it's a rooting tool.

I think I messed up royally

Long story short: I tried to install a GSI so I installed TWRP and flashed some necessary zips (vbmeta, mutidisabler, ...) from different sources and the GSI, but maybe it was a bad idea to follow multiple sources, because the phone was bootlooping when I tried to reboot into system. I then wiped everything and reflashed everything but that didn't fix it. After meddlilng around for a while, I was able to get into the download mode, so I thought of flashing the factory firmware with Heimdall. I used samloader and downloaded the supposedlly correct firmware (M215FXXU2BUH6/M215FODM2BUI1/M215FDDU2BUH1/M215FXXU2BUH6, region is BKD). When I was adding the files, I found out that I was missing the following files:
md5.img (MD5HDR)
efs.img (EFS)
sec_efs.img (SEC_EFS)
nad_fw.bin (NAD_FW)
param.bin (PARAM)
steady.bin (STEADY)
uhuh.bin (UHCFG)
blcmd.bin (BLCMD)
spu.img (SPU)
ul_key.bin (UL_KEYS)
nad_refer.bin (NAD_REFER)
dqmdbg.img (DQMDBG)
There were other partitions, but no files were listed for them, so I think they are not supposed to be flashed. There were also two different "fota.zip" files, but I didn't know what to do with them. Anyway, I flashed the other files, but the phone started bootlooping with the bootloader unlocked warning screen. I locked the bootloader from the download mode and tried again but no luck. I tried reflashing everything again, but the flashing stopped halfway with the message "super.img blocked by OEM" or something like that. I performed a force reboot with volume down + power and it rebooted into the "Emergency Recovery Function" screen. I reflashed everything again, but this time, without super.img, and it flashed fine, but the same bootloop problem remained. Looking up on the internet, it seems that efs.img has something to do with the IMEIs. I don't have any backup of it. I also don't know how to get the rest of the files (if all of them are even necessary), or what they even do/mean.
Basically, I'm trying to get it back to the factory software, or salvage it in any other way. Does somebody have any idea how to fix it?
Naah... Stuff like this happens to me all the time.
Download this ODIN first: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/patched-odin-3-13-1.3762572/
Then download this firmware: https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-M215F/BKD/M215FXXU2BUG2
Now first a few things:
1. You probably downloaded a engineer firmware that isnt allowed as of now.
2. Heimdall is mostly dead, last I checked. It isnt very wise to use it.
3. LOCKING THE BOOTLOADER IN A UNSTABLE STATE IS FOOLISHNESS. I do not mean to offend anyone, but pls dont do this.
4. I think you are using ErfanGSI/ some other port. These will NOT work. Only phhusson's GSI's have worked for me so far.
So coming back to the topic, Just open up the ODIN and connect up your phone. It will get recognized. If it is not in emergency/ download modes, just hold vol down + power, then press both vol buttons and connect to pc immediately - it will boot into dl mode.
Select the BL, AP, CP and HOME_CSC. Flash these.
It should reboot right back up into stock.
Also, are you using my vbmeta zip from ItsMeKande's thread?

Thanks for the fast response. I followed your instructions and was able to recover the device. It was actually bootlooping after flashing the firmware. I had to lock the bootloader to be able to successfully boot into the system. I was kind of worried, because I was running Odin in VirtualBox since Odin is Windows-exclusive and I don't use Windows. I'm glad everything worked out well in the end. I used to be into Android modding years ago, but my last Android device was Android 5 based and I stopped modding it once it got to my "perfect state". I haven't kept up with the modding scene since then. Things seems to have gotten a lot more complicated with newer Android versions.

Yes.
Since you seem to know about this stuff, can you recommend a GSI that's customizable, lightweight, and doesn't have GApps or microG?

Hmm, it didn't work. I get bootloops...
Did you follow all the instructions given in that thread?
Only if you flash vbmeta, Multidisabler it will boot.
Then too magisk is recommended. The zips are in that thread.
Follow the instructions and let me know. On guy OldNoobOne also successfully flashed and booted a gsi
Let me know if it works

For Multidisabler just do a google search one for samsung devices will appear
Here's what I did (stock firmware, unlocked bootloader):
1. Boot into dl mode
2. Flash TWRP and boot into it
3. Wipe > Format data > "yes"
4. Reboot > Recovery
5. Advanced > Terminal
6. "cd external_sd/flash"
7. "super mount system"
8. "super flash system crdrom-v313-210921-arm64-bvZ-lite.img"
9. Install > vbmeta.zip, multidisabler-samsung-3.1.zip"
10. Reboot into system
And I get bootloops. Multidisabler detects Android 10, doesn't find the stock recovery and fails to mount /system. Maybe that's the problem? I'm using this one.
Also try flashing magisk... I dont really understand what is happening to you.
Maybe you set the system as read only? Really not sure.
Also, a ROM might be coming soon

Yes, that did the trick! I'm able to boot into crDroid now. I was wondering if I needed to flash something to fix the corners, but seems like a simple reboot fixed it.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help!

Not nearly enough info. What steps did you take? Did you succeed in unlocking the bootloader? Did the tablet reboot after that? Did in factory reset? Did you re-enable Dev mode and OEM? What version of Odin? What version of stock ROM do you have? Did you flash VBmeta Disabler?

You need to do a lot more reading. Forget everything you know about rooting because it won't help with this tablet. There is a link in the first post in this tread about how to unlock the bootloader and enabling Dev mode and OEM is only the very first step. You can't do anything else until that is complete and each step is important. Also in the first post is the stock version you'll need to flash before flashing VBmeta and TWRP.

Actually the thread you need to read is here. That has the link to instructions for unlocking the bootloader. Your next step will be to use Sammobile to download the stock version shown in that thread and flash it with Odin. That should get you back to a bootable ROM. Also, forget about supersu. Magisk is used to root these tablets.
edit: MY BIG MISTAKE. I thought you had a T500 tablet but looking closer to your post, you must have a T380 and the thread I linked won't work for a T380. You'll have to search for a thread for rooting your tablet. Sorry about that. I don't even know if the T380 has a locked bootloader. But your next step will be to flash the stock ROM you downloaded to get back to a bootable ROM.
