Magisk + root + TWRP - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Hi fellas,
I am about to flash magisk+twrp+root on my exynos device but I am worried about the following:
- Is it be possible after twrp flash to encrypt /data folder and lock bootloader, so if telephone gets stolen there is no way they access my data?
- I read that when knox is tripped samsung pay and google pay do not work but there is a workaround (hide root) to fix that. What functionality does not work at all after tripping knox?
- How do OTA updates work? Do I need to flash the OTA update everytime an update is rolled out? Will I every time lose my data?
Thanks!

No,you cant encrypt data or lock bootloader after rooting/ installing twrp.
Yes samsung and google pay works after a tweak. Same as netflix.Secure folder,Samsung pass and S health. And if you are a gamer Fortnite too.But Fortnite and S health can be fixed.
To install ota you download the latest stock firmware with SamFirm/Frija and patch the AP file in Magisk Manager.Download the latest TWRP and patch it too.In Odin on your pc,put BL file ,patched AP file,CP file and Home_CSC/CSC file.Put phone in download mode and connect it to pc.Click start. After that let it boot. You will see phone will not be rooted, just use combibation keys for booting with root.Install flashify and install the TWRP as recovery file.Boot into TWRP and flash multidisabler from TWRP thread.Go to rebootand select Recovery.Let it boot and you are done!
Yes you need to manually install the update every month( everytime an update is rolled out).
If in odin you use CSC file your data will be deleted. If you use HOME_CSC your data will be intact.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but you mentioned we can flash multidisabler and reboot. But multidisabler official thread OP says we need to wipe data every time multidisabler is flashed? Can you confirm this please?

No. Untick the reboot option in Odin when flashing the patched files. Then, when flash is complete, boot to TWRP recovery (hold vol up + Bixby when booting) and flash multidisabler in TWRP before booting the phone normally.
Note - on first boot, TWRP will reboot again. Make sure you're ready to hold vol up + Bixby again as it reboots.
As long as you install multidisabler before phone boots normally you shouldn't lose any data.

[Q] how to update after rooting (magisk) ?

Hello
I was on B180 (PRA-LX1C432) rooted with magisk
No updates available in settings/update firmware, but connecting to PC HiSuite B194 appeared (which seems to be for Honor 8 lite by the way). It downloaded it, pushed it to phe phone, but when rebooting it goes to twrp... so obviously I'm still on B180
I imagine we have to flash back stock recovery before updating ? And then twrp again, magisk flash, etc ?
Thanks !
About OTA over magisk I found that on P9 forum:
1) unroot by Magisk Uninstaller, find the download link in the post https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...63&postcount=1
2) flash from TWRP original stock boot img
3) wipe Dalwik and Cache from TWRP
3) flash from fastboot original stock recovery
4) let it make OTA update but select in the System Update settings to use Full (not differential) update - it will not delete your apps and settings
maybe the safest way indeed...
But as I "catch" the full ota, maybe I can use fastboot to flash only system and boot, and the reflash magisk to patch new boot img ?
anyone ?
Nobody updated after root ??
Ok, this is what I did and happened:
- In TWRP, flash magisk uninstaller script: ERROR 1. After reboot magisk was still here. That was a bad start...
- So I opened magisk app, click Uninstall and then Complete Uninstall. After that I made a reboot as asked, and device rebooted twice.
- Then, went to download mode and flashed stock recovery. And reboot.
- Then went to settings/updates/download latest full ota. It downloaded but refused to start the install process claiming to free up more than 900MB... Nothing on my internal sdcard so I had to uninstall some apps... cool !
- Then it reboot and installed the update
- First boot took a while, I still have "this device cannot be trusted" on start, and OEM unlock in settings is grayed and ON, so I think the bootloader is still unlocked
- Theme and wallpapers were reset with the update
For now I don't have flashed back twrp neither magisk .
In the meantime have you flashed TRWP and Migistik ? And again: do you have still to update your signature or something went wrong in installing fw B194.
Lastly: what do you mean by "went to download mode and flashed"...

[SOLVED] TWRP bootloop after OTA update from Global V10.2.1.0 (PEAMIXM) with Magisk

Hello guys,
Yesterday I flashed my Mi 8 to get root permissions with Global V10.2.1.0 with Magisk 17.3, including Disable DM-Verity and Force Encrypt. Everything was working perfect, Magisk notified me about updating to v18, so I did, and MIUI notified me about an update (if I'm not mistaken, for 10.2.2.0).
MIUI downloaded the update and asked me to reboot to install it. It booted into TWRP and did the whole installation, apparently without issues, but then I restarted and it goes straight to TWRP.
I tried clearing cache/dalvik but nothing.
Every time I reboot and gets to TWRP, when I press the menu button to see the log, the last lines say:
Full SELinux support is present.
set_policy_failed:/datamisc
I don't know if this is relevant, but seeing a "failed" is not nice.
As an observation, the folder /data/system is full of folders, but the /system directly in root folder only has /usr/share/zoneinfo (I don't know if this is normal or not),
If the system updated to 10.2.2.0, would flashing to 10.2.1.0 set the ARB or it's safe for me to flash it again? Any ideas?
Thanks!
You need to flash Magisk again. Installing an OTA means you flash the stock boot.img so flash dm verity and magisk.

Maybe try flashing 'no-verity-opt-encrypt' and 'RMM Bypass' zip files?
EDIT: Flash Magisk zip too (it removes dm-verity), and format the data partition

It'll be rooted when you flash Magisk. And install the Magisk Manager APK too, to allow root control.
I actually rooted without TWRP by flashing the patched boot image generated from Magisk, and then performed a factory reset because file integrity couldn't be verified. But the Magisk binaries worked.
Amazing, can you pls Upload your Modified Bootloader for me and all People here ?
For make the Galaxy M10 open for users and Dev's.
Sorry for the late reply, but it's always better to do it yourself depending on what OTA update you are currently on. Download the firmware, extract the boot image and patch it with Magisk Manager. Then flash it with ODIN or Heimdall while in download mode. Then I had to factory reset because file integrity could not be verified. But the root was preserved.

Download and install magisk apk on your Device and patch the AP in Magisk file.
flash the Firmware full with Odin but put on the AP Option the Patched AP file flash and work.
I have with Magisk install the Xposed Framework and install nice plugins.
My phone became stuck in a boot loop so i tried to go back but whenever i try to flash the stock rom through odin it says sw REV. Check fail (Bootloader) Device: 2, Binary 1

Question Question about OTA update zip file

My phone M2102K1G came with IN ROM as I bought the phone in India during launch.
I unlocked bootloader and flashed Xiaomi.eu's fastboot ROM which is based on CN ROM and my model was then M2102M1C. I didn't like the Xiaomi.eu ROM and switched to Global MI fastboot Rom. Rooted as well. Very happy with this
I did not fastboot flash TWRP and left my phone on stock recovery. I have tested fastboot boot TWRP and that works well though the initial language (TWRP) is Chinese and you have to first switch the language to English. I haven't flashed anything via TWRP as yet.
My question is:
OTA zip file (Global MI Rom)
Can i flash it via TWRP?
Even though my phone is for the India IN region?
And if I can flash it via TWRP, then do I immediately flash with Magisk zip as well to keep root?
Thanks to anyone who had the patience to read through this and can hopefully reply.
In case you want update a stock ROM without TWRP and keep root throughout the updates here is my guide to do so.
Download on your phone latest recovery package manually from trusted websites. You can find the ROMs and firmware specific for your device on here https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/star/ remember to download the recovery version
Disable magisk modules and reboot
Upon reboot go to settings->system version->Miui(top left button)-> in the updater click several times on the main icon to unlock hidden settings->once unlocked tap on the three dots on the top right and select "choose update package"->browse your folder to find the downloaded recovery package, select it and press the V button on the bottom->update will start->wait until completion and reboot
Once rebooted follow the procedure to flash magisk.zip
Reboot the phone into fastboot
Connect phone to the pc
Boot into twrp
Once in twrp flash dalvik and cache
Flash magisk.zip and rewipe dalvik and cache
Reboot system and voila

Ok thanks.
I'm definitely gonna follow these steps the next time I get an OTA update.
Don't need to be rooted to flash boot TWRP is it?
No, you don't need, but you don't flash twrp, you just boot into twrp
If I have a unlocked and rooted phone with stock recovery, what happens if I just update normally via the stock update procedure? Will it not work?
Without disabling Magisk or anything and just updating.
Honestly I don't know but I can say that magisk wasn't fully working after updating without reflashing it
Okay.
So I cannot flash the OTA zip.
But have to update using the full recovery ROM for the updated version.
And then flash Magisk via fastboot boot TWRP

How will I get boot.img from the recovery ROM?
Only fastboot ROM will have boot.img
I think you have a bit of confusion, only thing you have to di is download magisk.zip on your phone, boot into twrp and flash it, simple

Yes, you will probably have to reinstall Magisk as root will more than likely be broken. The update server still sees a stock rom and as long as you have stock recovery, the stock OTAs will work.
The guide posted above explains properly the steps. Will try that next time around.

Question How to update firmware without data loss on rooted device

Hi
I have a S21 ultra Exynos variant with twrp and Magisk root. If I flash new firmware I would lose all apps and data due to having to wipe from twrp to circumvent the encryption issue.
Is there any way to backup all apps and data to flash the newest firmware with HOME_CSC and then do a restore to get as close as possible to an OTA update?
Best way is clean install and restore user app + data with some tool like swift backup or similar (Needs to backup first)
To update dirty,
Download full newer firmware and patch AP file using magisk and flash using Odin, same time you needs to Select bootloader, modem file and HOme_csc* file on respective tab in Odin
Also Same time select twtp+patched vbmeta on user tab of odin
Don't boot device to Android but,
Force reboot to TWRP and apply multidisabler
Now you can reboot to Android and all data will be there

Thanks for the reply. Can you please provide me a little more details in the steps? When I apply multidisabler I would need to do wipe and format right which would destroy the data else I would have partition errors?

If you are already on twrp then you don't need to to format data. It is required when you first time flash twrp. But keep in mind, if you failed to apply multidisabler before booting device, You may lose data
Is there a way to apply multidisabler without a custom recovery?
