Widgets not opening associated apps - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

I have a very nice new K20 Pro direct from China. Because I'm not a big fan of MIUI, I'm running Action Launcher. My only problem is with widgets: I can place them, they function as normal (updating automatically and on touch, or playing - Pocket Casts - etc). But the associated app doesn't open on tap. Not on a single widget. I've granted all the apps all the permissions I could find, de-restricted battery on those apps, allowed apps to start other apps, all to no aviail.
I thought maybe it was something to do with Action Launcher, but it does it with Nova Launcher as well, which suggests it's a MIUI thing.
It's a little bit annoying - such a simple thing! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's definitely a MIUI thing. I had the same when using Evie Launcher. For me it worked for the first couple of times after installing the widget, then stopped altogether. I found MIUI is very aggressive at killing backgrounds processes and services and so put it down to that. I never managed to found out how to fix it. But as soon as I could unlock the bootloader I've been on GSI ROMs and haven't looked back. Everything works fine again now.

It has to do with the app permissions, I had it too and I fixed it
Try to give it permission to start in background.
That seemed to fix it for me.
Oh and in developer options, I also scrolled down all the way, and turned off MIUI optimization.

Thanks, I did all of that. As best I could, they don't make it easy to find these things! No change. Anyone else?

Solved - somehow!
So it started working. Widgets open apps on Action launcher.
I actually switched MIUI Optimisations back on in Developer options, as this allows you to access more permissions, and I made sure again that Action Launcher has every permission granted to it. It now asks every time I open any app for the first time if it can do so, and I think that was what was holding it back before. Also made sure there was no battery restriction on the launcher itself. So now the phone is functioning as it should, and I can enjoy it fully.
Edit: And I also gave Action Launcher accessibility access...

Same here
I've just come across the same problem. For me it was the option 'Display pop-up windows while running in the background'. that had to be enabled for the app in question.. Apparently the last system update either disabled this for all my widgets or introduced the feature in the first place.

der_faebu that did it for me, thanks.

Well I figured out the solution:
Go to settings --> Installed apps --> Permissions --> Additional permissions and then Allow 'Start in background' for the apps which are not getting opened. No way to do this for all apps in one click though....

This fixed my problems:
1. Start in backraound
2. Display pop-up windows while running....

yes, it works also for me. but it is just crazy how xiaomi is agressive in stopping apps in the background.

How to set permissions to allow third party launcher to not prompt every time?

I keep getting prompted when using a third party launcher, the dev and I think this is a miui thing, as I have used same launcher on emui and there's no such prompt.
Any idea how to get rid of it?
Checked app's permissions?
Its a very annoying issue on miui... Go to settings>permission>auto start then enable auto start for all the apps... Problem solved

Ah, cool. Thankfully the shortcuts are only a small number and I can specific them, so only like 10 of them to set.
Thank you.

Cannot receive application notifications on Realme X2 Pro

Hello everyone,
I just bought my new Realme X2 Pro from AliExpress a few days ago, and have been facing an annoying issue.
Although I have disabled Smart Power Saver and App Quick Freeze features in the settings, almost all the installed applications do not pop up any notification. I also have enabled notifications for each app, such as Yahoo email, Gmail, Mobile banking apps, Telegram, Imo, WhatAPP, etc., and have allowed them to always run in the background. I know it would drain the phone battery, but I thought doing these kinds of stuff would fix the notification problem. I did whatever the Realme website suggested and also what the community proposed.
This is my first experience with an unknown cellphone brand, and I have to put it to the experience.
I was wondering if anybody can advise me on a solution.
I have to mention that I did factory reset my phone thrice and also updated my phone to the latest OS version, but nothing changed!
Suggested solutions by Realme which did not work:
https://www.realme.com/in/support/kw/doc/FAQ1106
I would appreciate your valuable comments on this topic.
i did what you already said step 3) is the only addition, but its working perfectly fine here! make sure everything is updated.. or sadly factory reset.
1) long press the app then click on app info, or go to app info what ever is easy for you.
2) power saver change it to Allow background Running
This should solve the problem. if not the extra one to do is
3) your recent apps click on the three lines menu and lock the app.
i have 12GB ram so it does not affect anything.
this solved my problem
more to this i faced issues with whatsapp popup notification on the top the Bubble thing but after time it works, its mostly the Color OS is Really not working well with the phone.
sorry if you found this useless but i hear you!

Thanks for the reply.
I know that we can pin/lock the recent apps in the background, but after tapping on “close the recent apps icon,” even the pinned apps will be closed!! So, we habitually tap on that icon, and pinning the apps won't help us.
I can not even toggle the screen pinning ????

On eu rom it doesn't succeed, locked apps remains closing recent

MIUI.EU have some suspicious activities on my k20 pro

I have recently installed miui.eu on my phone and for some reason i opened my privacy manager and saw this, i was astonished by this,
My device was automatically screen recording and i see no recordings in the recording app.
The timings of app opening are exact same as opening my banking and social media apps (maybe!!, Most of them are so a innocent guess).
I guess i need to go towards some stock android roms. If i am wrong don't bash in comments please explain i will understand. Thank you
EDIT:
1. Yes i disabled the screen recorder many times after this but still saw same results then i took the screenshot
2. No, I had no tiles in my control centre as screen recorder, I had removed all the unnecessary quick tiles.
3. I switched to evox for now and maybe wait for a global stable miui 12.
EDIT 2:
1. The service/app was started only when i used the phone and never when it was on sleep. (Maybe deepsleep/automatic app killing)
2. I disabled the app and it was still in use. (makes absolutely no sense)
3. I respect all the hardwork from the developers, staying up day and night for making these possible (miui 12 eu), I maybe wrong but will wait until some clarification.
4. Sorry devs and Thank you for your hardwork.
And all other apps that needed the autostart permission was denied by privacy manager but this app is allowed every single time.
You're scaring me[emoji102]

Okayyyyy I just had a look too, same as you eu.miui and the list is even longer. This is kind of...strange.
Just to add force stopping doesn't work even with autostart off. It seems to show 'started by system ui' every time I open discord or telegram which is very worrying. I think in the meantime until we get some answers to this I'll go a stock android custom rom too.

Go settings, apps then screen recorder or hold down the icon and tap app info.
You're looking for app behaviour it should be the 4th option down.
Also happening in MortalOS, maybe a miui12 thing
It does open randomly, doesn't open specifically for banking apps for me. I think it's got to do with its quicksetting or something but I don't think it's recording anything
It launches because you've Screen recorder tile on QS tiles, that's why it's on App behaviour. It's not a bug and issue, System UI have to check tile state and must interact with app directly for that. It's not an issue at all.
You can remove Screen recorder tile and should be fine.

What about the other apps that autostart by themself where I already set them to not autostart.
In my case I'm just opened the telegram but some of my apps autostart by themself even I already set them off. Even the mail apps that I never open
Is that normal?
The screen recorder already disabled by now

Disable what you don't use, also I think system apps are able to bypass permissions. The rest of the apps that you showed appear to have had their permission denied though
I got the same story on mix2s. I have rolled back to miui10

Smae issue with masik, it even shows 3mb data used. Can anyone dig into these roms and see if spyware is installed
The issue might be related to Gausian blur / which is triggering gausian blur .. when you are accessing the control centre
to check : do one thing.. change your notification style to old one and see ..
i once tried IOS control centre, to show blur it used to ask some strange permission, and cast symbol used to activate when ever that blur comes active ..
so i think.. : bringing down control center, might trigger gausian blur, which is related to screen recorder ( somehow) .

Permission denied after I saw strange behaviors.. What will happen if they were autostarted and has the permission. It's a disaster.
I hope it's just a bug
See this Dropbox behavior
Launch by a file.. And I don't even touch the Dropbox apps before
How it could be?
Thanks

You probably opened a file, either way I think it's just paranoia and normal behaviour that would happen on any android version, only difference is that it is logged
Edit: I'm exploring this feature a little bit more, apparently it logs when apps try to autostart and notifies even if they are denied. Looking at your screen you denied autostart permissions for Dropbox for example. Your concern if I understood correctly is that "files" app launched Dropbox, that is because the privacy feature also logs what process launches the app, so for example if you interact with a newly downloaded file and Dropbox is somehow required to view it or sync or whatever the files app is gonna request the Dropbox app to launch. This also explains why disabling autostart for screen recorder doesn't work, that is because it won't start on its own but other apps (system UI) still can, if you are super concerned about privacy regarding the screen recorder you can use ice box to freeze it or uninstall via ADB. However it's probably because it's integrated with the system UI service to some extent and it periodically starts it if it goes out of ram, the privacy log feature records everytime it is launched in memory.

Is there any way to lock apps in memory on miui 12.0.9?

Hi, I'm on stock 12.0.9.0 (QJOEUXM - global EU channel)
This update redacted the facility to lock apps in memory and select Split Screen from the Recents menu (apparently it was unstable for some users - it's to come back in a later update)
So, as it stands when you long press an app in the Recents menu, instead of being offered Split Screen, Lock, Info, it just takes you directly to App Info
Until it's fixed, does anyone know of another way to lock apps in memory?
It's getting very annoying having miui kill processes all the time
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Did you try to change settings?

Very definitely, yes! I'd been scouring the settings menus to find this feature again but couldn't find anything relevant
This morning the miui Security app opened up and offered me the chance to Lock Apps in memory, meaning I could select the relevant apps which are now shutting down less often
Unfortunately I can't find any way to find this menu again! Miui settings menus are a maze!
And the answer is:
Security app » Settings cog » Boost speed » Lock apps
Thanks to u/sparklesunshine777 on Reddit for that

Hi. so this means apps that are locked don't get killed all the time? There is a lock function in the settings but that just prevents apps from staring without a finger print or pin I believe.
I found an option in CustoMIUizer to stop MIUI force closing selected apps. (but that needs root.) and it seems to help so far the app (RL Bubble) stopped only 1 time today instead of every hour or so but that is still 1 time too many.
So I added it in the security app too. Who would think to look there in stead of the settings. Great find! Thanks.
I think that they make the phones more and more complicated by hiding/relocating/renaming the settings every android version.
Hi, a quick question. I do lock apps in the background, but i notice sometimes the padlock is lets say highlighted and sometimes just dim.
Anybody knows what that is?
Thank you.

Jesus, finally. Thank you man
I have an issue related to this in stock miui with netguard vpn - basically its still killed once in while even though:
Its already locked as described above including autostart;
its already set in stock android system settings for battery use as "not optimized"
its also set with the miui app settings battery saver as (no restrictions)
it's set under network settings as (always on);
So what else can I do non-root to prevent this happening?

Super annoying stuff. especially when you want to multitask, the last resort if not buying a different brand phone is to install a custom ROM, and get rid of MIUI altogether. Imo, even tho battery is not as good is a good sacrifice for sanity.

Question Hide app feature not working

hi, I'm trying to enable the "hide app" of ColorOS 11 on my Oppo Find X3 Pro (global).
I can correctly select apps to hide, set up the access code (for example #1234#), but after that the apps are still visible on drawer and homeage. And if I digit the access code on the launcher, nothing happens. I suspect the features is not working because I have google dialer and not the oppo one so maybe the feature to manage the access code is not implemented there.
Do you have any clue on how to fix this? or does the "hide app" works in your phone?

On my phone it works flawlessly - i have an oppo dialer.

Hi. Did your phone come with oppo dialer?
actually it was my fault... I forgot the golden rule of IT
Just rebooting the phone (I didn't reboot after activating the hide app feature, but it was not specified in the instructions) made the hide app feature work.
The only minor glitch is that on google dialer, after I enter the access code #xyz# and the hidden app menu opens, next time I open the dialer it still has the access code visibile and I have to manually delete it.

actually this problem is not solved. After each reboot it works flawlessy, but after some time (maybe 1/2 day; I don't know exactly) it stops working. When I enter the access code on dialer, nothing happens, until next reboot. I suspect the issue is related to ColorOS policy to kill/suspend apps (maybe the one that manage hidden apps is suspended), but didn't found any way to fix this issue. Do you have any clue?

Sorry to hear that.
I suggest removing google dialer temporarily to check whether it is an issue with the firmware or google dialer.
After that let us know.
Btw. Have u installed google dialer during phone initial setup or after?
As a workaround I suggest using external app to hide applications - they worked great for me before. Just use google play store and search for "Hide App"

actually google dialer is the default one from factory, I don't have oppo dialer (and I don't think I can even install it being a system app). From what I understood, the fact that some unit have oppo dialer and others (like mine) google dialer depends on the region. My unit is an european one (italian).
I will try external app, thanks for your suggestion.

So I finally got the update for ColorOS 11 on my Oppo Find X2 Pro yesterday and so far I like it. However, there is no way to auto-hide the navigation buttons.
I've tried navigation gestures but just cannot get used to them (I will try again some time I promise), so I'm back to my trusty navigation buttons. However, unlike ColorOS 7,i cannot find the option to automatically hide (or press a button to hide) these when in apps, etc. so I now can't have a full screen experience.
Has anyone found how to do this yet?

hide apps milestoneapply :
Long-tap on any empty space on your home screen.
In the bottom right corner, tap the button for home screen settings.
Scroll down on that menu and tap "Hide apps."
In the menu that pops up, select any apps you want to hide, then tap "Apply."
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, our R&D Team has already started working on it to get this issue fixed. Rest, please be assured this issue will get resolved in next software update.
However, until then, you may also try alternative way for accessing the hidden apps by following below steps:
1. Device Settings > Fingerprint > Fingerprint for hidden apps quick-start
2. Select any registered finger (best option to use rarely used finger to unlock the device so that it won't open every time)
We thank you for patience and understanding.
