You don't need custom ROM. What car you have?
Basically your cars entertain system has to support it. The phone itself has it. See the link below with explaining how it works. Each car manufacturer has different options and features. My subaru legacy works without any problem with my S10.

Then get the s8 and s10 together and go through the settings to see if you have the same. You might have to manually adjust your s10 settings. I would look in Advance settings or similar.

Can you pair your phone with your car ? Some cars support only calls. In my car I can do talk and listen music from my S10. What is your car make/model?

Strange. Skoda's system is the same as VW, so should be ok. I would check the Audio manual then how to properly connect the phone. Tbh I thought it's easy peasy but took me about half an hour to do mine and had to go step by step using the Audio manual.

Anyone try MirrorLink?

I'm considering getting this phone.
I have a Sony head unit quick supports MirrorLink. According to various press releases, this phone is supposed to support it, but I have heard mixed things about whether or not MirrorLink actually works.
Can anyone with a compatible car stereo please give it a try and let me know if/how MirrorLink works? It's the only thing keeping me from buying this phone.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I've still yet to hear anything about MirrorLink working, but I did find someone who didn't get it working, with some kind of 'no mirrorlink compatible applications found' type of error.
I'm hoping someone who has a mirrorlink compatible head unit and a Note 4 can chime in on this!
Sorry to shamelessly bump, but it's the deciding factor for me.
Mirrorlink Error Galaxy Note 4 and AppRadio3
I hooked up my Note 4 with my AppRadio3 and it tells me i have no supported applications. The phone starts mirrorlink and tells me it is connected and the mirrorlink icon on the stereo appears, but when i press the button, it gives me the error and has a black screen. I am using the pioneer Mirrorlink USB cables.
Thanks for that. I actually bought one before reading your comment, tried it, experienced the same problem, and returned the phone. Otherwise, was a great phone.
Mirrorlink Error Galaxy Note 4 and AppRadio3
Called pioneer. Found out all the new phones. M8 and note 4 use mirrorlink 1.1 and pioneer uses 1.0. They don't know when they will upgrade to the new standard.

I have an M8 and it works with my XAV-601BT, which is very old and only supports MirrorLink 1.0, so I am sure that the M8 is ok, at least with my unit.
At least since you have an AppRadio, you can probably use ARUnchained or the like, but you'll have to go through rooting and finding a kernel with permissive SELinux.
Have tried connecting my Note4 to my Pioneer 6000NEX. I do get a connected screen on my phone, but a blank screen on the deck itself. I hope they fix this soon. Appradio with the MHL connector works perfectly tho, BTW.
Pioneer no plans to update flash on current radios
I spoke with Pioneer today as my 4600BH is not working with mirrorlink and Note 4.
Pioneer rep told me they have no plans to update the current flash's of their radios as they run MirrorLink v1.0 and if I want MirrorLink to work to "Go out and buy a 2015 model"
Ya.... that is what they told me...... best customer service I have ever had....
Also MirrorLink (CCC) told me that they create the MirrorLink driver and that is all, the driver is sold to Samsung, Pioneer etc.... and the contract they sign places responsability of supporting the MirrorLink with their software on the hands of the company, not MirrorLink........

Mirror link does NOT work... Currently have a note 4 with a Pioneer 2015 deck Avh-x5700bhs
... The phone says connected but the head unit screen stays black... Pioneer offered no resolution and neither did Samsung

According to a review on Amazon... Mirrorlink is supposedly working now after Note 4 lollipop update... I however think it's bull, it was posted over a month ago and I don't think the note 4 revieved Android 5.0 on any carrier at the time.. Anyone confirm this??

upside..downside... IF you have lollipop, note 4 and even the galaxy s6 WILL connect to mirrorlink, however.. it has yet to work LOL... it connects..says its connected..but the only app I have control over on the radio is my PHONE. no nav, maps ..nothing.. still cant figure out what im doing wrong..even spent money on a "special cable" that was required in order to allow connectivity

From what I'd heard, it's only the Note 4 that was having a problem. Other MirrorLink 1.1 Android Phones had no issues. No need to jump on the iPhone sheep wagon.
Hmmmn.... Samsung is for ever pissing me off... Never owned an iPhone and probably never will but everytime I try and leave Samsung they come out with something I want... The Note 5 for instance is rumored to be redesigned and incredible..

...and probably without a MicroSD slot.
Yeah, but if they offer 128gb of internal memory...im good with that or even an 80gb version... On board memory will make for a better experience anyway..micro sd cards are great but (for me)they're not needed. I have a class 10 64gb card in my device and I've never filled it up. I'll torrent movies straight to my device but, I don't keep them, once I watch them, I delete them. + my car deck reads jump drives so I keep my music on a jump drive and it's bad ass... So for me, I'll be good...
Disappointed...

I have the Note 4 with Lolipop 5.0.1 and a Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS head unit with the latest firmware from Pioneer (8.29) and mirror link will connect the phone to the deck, but the only app available is AppRadioLive, which in my opinion is totally useless.

Chromecast installed in my celica :)

I know a few have done this before but I figured I'd share

yea, i had to push in the yellow cable a lil more and rotate it a lil till I found a sweet spot.
and this method will allow any HDMI input, so you could connect a computer, xbox, etc
I got everything all hooked up but it keeps cutting out every few seconds.

Either 2 phones or a phone and a tablet for the initial setup only. After that you just need your main phone.
Awesome sauce!

So I do have a question, unless you are on Wifi with the chromecast or hotspot with your phone can you do anything without the two options I just listed?
Wait, you said you hit the video input on your head unit. Don't you just hit the aux input, or am I missing something here? I want to try this on a stock GM 2015 Intellink unit just to see if it works or not. It would be epic if it did. I remember on my old 3300BT Pioneer that I did have a menu item to get video from the aux, instead of the rear cam, did you have to change that setting? If so, my project is DOA since I can't do that.

you need a hotspot unless your car is near an open wifi network that can be used.

The Aux jack must me an A/V style port. AKA 3 black bands on the connector/socket rather than the two

Ya, stock HU's, even the new fancy screens don't have that. I could get audio, but no video. I am about ready to just go the tablet route. Thanks.

Help want to root but something not right

hello guys i need help here. i already double check that my OEM unlock is turned on now on my device, but there still RMM State : Prenormal on my bootloader download mode
is it safe to flash TWRP & rooting the phone now even im already turned on the OEM unlocking but there still RMM State Pre normal on bootloader? ill just waiting until i got reply
the reason i need to root my phone is, i need netflix to work with HDMI Out to my TV using Type-C to HDMI Cable, but when i plug my HDMI from my Phone to TV, netflix got error 5.2 when play the movie, and i read somehow on youtube just only need to rename liboemcrypto, is that right?
If that is the only reason for rooting, I think that a chomecast or something similar(of course assuming that the tv is not a smart tv) would be a better option, no cable needed, they are very cheap
I concur with winol.. Just output to tv is not a good reason to risk rooting your phone.
Btw, winol were u a developer of custom rom on note 2?

Try the samsung dex cable. Or samsung dex. Go to a samsung showroom, plug in your phone to dex station and see if netflix will run from there.
It's better too as the station charges your phone as you play netflix..

FM doesn't come from the CPU. You need a tuner and this phone doesn't have one.
Thanks for the clarifications brother
If you really really really want it ... you could try using an SDR dongle.
There are android drivers and apps. But of course this means having a giant usb stick sticking out of your phone (i guess you could use a usb extension if you wanted lol)
What I don't understand is why you need to uninstall the FM radio with rog 1 and rog2..
I think this should be on every phone with money..
And right now there is fear of pandemics and earthquakes all over the world
Why do we have to live connected to the internet all the time?

As for me this is the opposite, I don't understand why you need FM on the new high tech devices that will drain your battery and use your phone. You can have it with low price FM receiver that can be used for weeks before running out of battery and can keep it for years. With internet you can have digital streaming with much more choice than FM can ever give you.

Radio app for Note 9

I heard that some Note 9 users have Samsung official Radio app. But lots of them (Me) have no Radio app in their phone. Can someone Share the official Radio app (Not the internet Radio) or any method or mod to have it?! I got Rooted my Note 9 ?.
Try NextRadio but i highly doubt it would work. All flagships ditched the radio many years ago. Same with ir blaster. Shame really.
A the Radio apps are asking internet connection. That's the problem.?

NextRadio works on my N960U.
Of course, I need my wired headphones connected as an antenna.
As more and more phones ditch the headphone jack, it won't matter if the FM chip is enabled, even if the radio app will work, it won't be able to pick up any stations.
BTW the Samsung Radio apk is on APKMirror, but it won't install on my phone.
Can you share a link to download. Because not working what i downloaded

The N960U is a SnapDragon powered Note 9. If yours is an Exynos one (like mine) it won't work. I got used to streaming radio stations. Yes some don't have a steam but whatever.
