Will the K20 Pro being sold on Flipkart tomorrow be the chinese model? - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

I'm very confused.
Flipkart are selling K20 Pros in a flash sale tomorrow. Are these the same as the ones sold on other websites?
I read somewhere that Indian K20 Pros will have a different devie codename and take different ROMs. Some people say they won't have NFC, and others say it's a software limitation.

Any model sold in India via official partners like Mi.com/Flipkart will be the Indian Model codename Raphaelin. NFC is not of much use currently in India and its forced disabled from the software at the time being on 10.3.3.0 Future OTA's might trigger and activate it but no one knows that for sure as there was no mention of NFC during the launch, however users who have unlocked and flashed EU roms have NFC enabled so the hardware is definitely present.
The Chinese variant is not sold here and the code name is Raphael.
You may visit this thread running to mention the existing issues users have reported.

Thanks, so just to confirm, I can flash raphael ROMs (and it'll change to Raphael in the build.prop) but I'll loose Widevine L1?

Also, are the radio bands the same?

Yes, but you'll need to flash a fastboot ROM with the Mi Flash Tool.
You'll lose Widevine L1 and gain NFC.

Not quite, the Chinese model appears to have a couple of extra bands available (comparing specs on the official Indian and Chinese Xiaomi websites).

The difference is in the lte bands. Better look, what bands you need in your country.
In term of custom roms, both are same.

Yes, i have a China variant of the 3T, came with Hydrogen OS but i flashed Oxygen OS over it, dont need any alterations in the recovery or any other special permissions, just follow this instructions:
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3t/oneplus_3t_oxygenos_3.5.4/
What's the easiest way to check the band on a phone? I think I've got a Chinese phone instead of EMEA

As a Chinese, I can clearly inform you that there is no difference between the China version and the international version.
You can flash HydrogenOS or OxygenOS anytime。

Is it possible to reflash to get north Americans bands?
I have two op3, one I ordered directly from op+ the other from Amazon.. I'm in Canada. The first place one works fine, the other doesn't with working Sim.. I noticed the one that doesn't work has Chinese writing after the English on the back label..
Long story short, is it possible to change the software of flash the Chinese one so I get it to work?

Hardware is different between US, EU and China, you can however run HydrogenOS and OxygenOS on all variants but it won't change the modem channel support as it's hardware restricted.

Does this mean the guides to unlocking additional bands here on xda won't work? I was reading up on these. I believe It's UMTS BAND 4 I'm missing. Is there any way I can run a command or query the device somehow to compare the difference between my working op3 and the defunct one?

Band 17 support?

So I was about to buy the phone but wanted to verify LTE bands first. The seller lists B17 support, but the Mi9 web page at Xiaomi's site does NOT list band 17 support. I find this strange, since the Mi8 does support B17 and the Mi Mix 3S supports B17. So Is there any real confirmation on whether the Mi 9 does or does not support this LTE band? Is the lack of it being listed at Xiaomi site just a type?

So does that mean only Chinese versions support this and I must buy Chinese version and run Chinese ROM to get band 17 support to work with ATT? I would rather flash to Global ROM, but I am thinking that Global kernel or other firmware may remove B17 support? Can the Global ROM be run on China firmware? I'd definitely trust Xiaomi's official site more than anywhere else, if you check Xiaomi's official site for Spain (which sells the Global variant) it doesn't list band 17..
Flashing Global on a Chinese device or vice versa doesn't affect the bands as far as I'm aware, there's evidence of Xiaomi hardware locking the bands on the Pocophone, forum links below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/help/poco-f1-lte-bands-unlock-t3835467
https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/how-to/pocophone-lte-band-unlock-report-t3848193
If you buy a Chinese Mi 9 then you should be able to flash the Global ROM, same as all previous Xiaomi's, however you have to keep the bootloader unlocked once flashed, trying to relock will result in a brick
These steps were for a MI Note, but may work with the MI 9:

I'm seeing some contrary information out there about what phone has what bands. Is there a code I can enter in dialer to see all available bands on my device? All I see is that I'm currently connected with B2 in *#*#4636#*#* and various apps I've picked up. I'm wanting to see exactly what's available in the device in my hand rather than specs on 4 different websites(with different values). The primary website I'm looking at is showing me I made a mistake with getting the 8/256 transparent china rather than the 12/256 but I'd really like to know for sure(especially since I'm currently not experiencing any problems with AT&T). It was easy with my W10M phone(##2382#) but I'm a bit lost with Android.
Unfortunately for me it didn't work. Like I said, 4G + appears on my phone screen, but the apps don't connect and I can't even use the browser because it says I'm not connected. Already tried to fix APN settings, checked if I had LTE on, but nothing worked. The internet only works if I have H+ on the screen. And now I have another problem: I downloaded my original parameters before switching to the modified ones, but now when resetting my original parameters and restarting, the phone remains without a network signal. The IMEI numbers are correct, the settings are ok, but I still have no network signal. Does anyone know how to fix this, or have the original .xqcn file to send me? Thanks.

US Version of ROG Phone 2. Can I root with WW kernel?

Just received my US version ROG 2 and I would like to root. But my kernel build number doesn’t match with the WW or CN kernals. Should I just wait?
Where did you get it from?
Phones like the Pixel 3 which can be sold from a carrier (like Verizon or T-Mobile), will usually have the bootloader permanently locked on the carrier-sold models. This is so the carrier does not have to endure additional RMAs due to people messing up their rooted phones. But since the Rog Phone II is not sold by any carriers, I would think that the Bootloader unlock tool they have already published would be made available for the US version as well. They might speed things up if you can find a way to get in touch with US support and point it out. The Asus online chat is very awful though seems to be entirely overseas staff reading from scripts with no autonomy. At least with Google Pixel there's some US-based call centers. If anyone finds a direct line of communication with the US team I'd be interested to see it.

Is there anything that makes the WW version superior to the US version? Would it still have use of all the frequencies if US hardware was flashed to WW?
Got mines from asus store. Received it yesterday 9/30.
I prefer not to flash WW version and keep my US version but if there’s no difference than im waiting for no reason. So yeah if anybody could tell me what’s the difference in us version and ww version I’m all ears.

Change from G7810 to G781B Please help me

Hi, I wonder if it's possible to convert Hong Kong variant of S20 FE 5G (SM-G7810) to European version (SM-G781B). What I have to do?
Please help me!
it is impossible to do
I am interested too, since I bought a SM-G780 model, which will be delivered to me in the next few days and I would like to carry out the same operation, I have already downloaded the Italian CSC ITV firmware SM-G781B; through Odin, can it be done? The phones have the same features, same processor, change the RAM which in the SM-G780 is 8GB, while in the SM-G781B it is 6GB. Thanks.

do not give people false hope, this method will not work.
I can say that it will work 100%

And flash G7810 to G781B - not possible!

Perfect. While the Google PlayStore, and other services work? There are no problems or report at the software level I mean!
Because for my country Italy, the frequencies of use of the G7810 are fine! So I was more interested in removal or software related problems!
Thanks a lot for the answer
its not posibil to do that and you dont need to do it you will get the update later in february.
Today arrived my 7810. As I need to be avle to use phone-recording I always did the CSC-trick trouwgh the THL-roms on S8, S9, S10 etc.
Therefore I am curious if there is a way to make phone recording work native as described above, or through app as ACR-call recorder on THY ( Hongkong-ROM).
For hardware the difference between 781B ( Global) & 7810 (Hongkong & China) is 6 GB vs 8GB.
That's probably why people think it is possible to flash other ROM into 7810 .

If you can a technical reason as to why the OP can't just flash a G781B stock rom to his G7810 device, that would more productive. Will it for example just not work and soft-brick his device requiring flashing back to G7810 firmware etc..?

I'm thinking of buying the hongkong version from Canada. The process of unlocking the bootloader and rooting will be easier in this version right? Will the custom ROMs be compatible with the 8 GB hongkong version?
Otherwise I will go with the Canadian version.

Question Mi 11 Ultra variants

Hi!
Pretty sure this has been discussed before, but couldn't find precisely the clarifications I needed. So please bare with me!
The 11 Ultra comes out in CN version and Global version (?)
Please check the "differences" table at the middle of this page: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32845812011.html
Firstly, let's begin - is this info provided in this table accurate or not?
If it is correct, my understanding is that the hardware between "CN version" and "Global version" may also be different
This is further supported elsewhere e.g.: https://www.quora.com/Which-is-better-Xiaomi’s-global-version-or-China-version (post by James A)
You may have noticed that up until this point, I haven't even used the word "ROM"
Because this is what it still is confusing to me. If the above claims are actually true (that the hardware is different between the two versions), then comes the ROM consideration
According to the previous table, the CN version can either have the CN ROM or the Global ROM. The Global version can only have Global ROM
Its important to clarify the use between "version" (device/hardware) and "ROM" (software/firmware)
That may also explain the (countless) discussions I ve seen across the forums debating which band is supported by which "version" and/or "ROM"
Correct me if I m wrong, but I think that band support on a phone is hardware-based and cannot be altered by flashing a different ROM. Which further supports my argument that we indeed have two different hardware flavors of the Mi 11 Ultra...
If I am correct, and we indeed have the choice of "CN version" and "Global version", it would make sense to go for the "Global version" (which obviously runs on Global ROM and is more expensive!)
But if I am wrong (and there is no hardware variation), then it would make sense to go for the "CN version" and then flash the "Global ROM" myself (and save me some money!)
Just to clarify - when I say "hardware variation" I don't mean differences in the specs; those should be the same! I m talking materials used, quality, and certifications (e.g. CE, FCC) that the CN version wouldn't have (according to those resources)
Is there someone here who can shed light to this? I d rather hear from someone how really knows the actual case of whats going on here (and no more assumptions/hypotheses!)

Hi!
Pretty sure this has been discussed before, but couldn't find precisely the clarifications I needed. So please bare with me!
The 11 Ultra comes out in CN version and Global version (?)

Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro/Ultra / 11 Ultra (star) same rom.
Cn,EEA,Global,Indian,Indonesian version.
Difference between Cn version and other version:
the band B28b(700) does not exist on the CN version.
Buying a Cn version with a global rom is more expensive than with the CN rom, especially since it is possible to install a different version without any problems.
In any case with a Cn version,if you install a EEA or Global rom, the bootloader cannot be locked, which results in an uncertified play store and banking apps that cannot be installed.
Solution:
Either you root and use Magisk hide or you install a Xiaomi EU rom which exists in stable or weekly version without root and with the bootloader unlocked.

So, minus one LTE band...OK, I guess I can live with that
But no other differences e.g. build quality of the device?

Thing is, I realised that I cannot find any "Global version" variants. Only thing on sale right now seems to be the CN version with CN ROM (+option for Global ROM)

This is a problem. I still need a phone that is fully functional, especially at this price tag!
I need certified Play for my banking apps, so its no use without it
Its good to hear that little detail now (its quite shocking this is not mentioned on all the ads that sell the CN!)

Hmm, but Xiaomi EU will also result me having unlocked bootloader, right? (hence not certified Play)
So not really a solution
(p.s. I don't want to root the phone either..)

Indeed, yet they exist on paper

Nope, Xiaomi Eu rom is a custom rom not the stock EEA(Europe Version),Everything works(certified Play store) without root and with the bootloader unlocked, as mentioned above.

I see. Sounds like a solution then
May I ask a (probably) silly question - are those Xiaomi EU builds trustworthy? Are they still Open Source?
Also, that band B28b(700), according to this: https://halberdbastion.com/intelligence/countries-nations/germany
serves some 15% of the LTE users here in Germany. Which is not neglictible in a sense, but not the end of the world either. Telefonica, which I use at the moment, really sucks in terms of coverage...

They have been modifying roms for 11 years and are present on XDA.
I have been using these roms for a long time without any problems.
You can go there with your eyes closed.
Many with a Cn version use them.

One final, less important question: does the CN version come with the (cable) charger in a retail box?
I don't know whether I should expect the box to be properly sealed (as I usually opt for!)
Some sellers claim that it needs to be opened in order to "check that everything is there" (which is just BS)
But someone told me that it may be opened at the customs upon arrival...can they really do something like that?
I ve always have the fear of receiving something that is not really 'brand new' (e.g. refurb or a returned from previous customer). There must be a counter to check on possible usage (don't know if that can be reset to by someone who knows how to do it)
Anyhow, that will be it, thanks for all feedback!

A tip don't buy on Ali,

Maybe more expensive but better service.

There a few online check services that can check the activation date , to ensure it is really "brand new" , not refurb/returned. I think they're fetching the data from Xiaomi server.

I was interested in the 12gb/256gb anyway (and Black!)
617eur+postage is as low as it gets (taking into account the trust rating as well)
Strangely enough, the Compatability Assistant says that B28/700MHz is supported by O2/Telefonica (?)
Only thing left now is to see if they ll be willing to ship the box sealed (and maybe in a larger box to accommodate the charger). It shouldn't be a problem for the CN version - as I don't want anything 'extra'
I m not a fan of the "all devices are checked before shipping" notice at the bottom
If it is for it to be 'abused' at a customs random check, so be it. But I don't see any reason for them to open the box. That should be my honour to do so!

Why is it that you can't lock the bootloader? I just bought a global rom flashed chinese version phone since it was cheaper. But I would like to have all functions back.
The xiaomi EU rom is actually a custom rom so I would love not to use it. Also some youtubers from my country said that magisk solves the problem until the first reboot which makes it start boot looping afterwards.

Because Chinese phones are only intended for the Chinese market.
Could you be more specific?
(But I would like to have all functions back.)
YouTube is not XDA.

Well some say bank apps don't work and NFC payment does not work also. I'm Currently using a MI 9 SE global version and I have grown acostomed to using nfc payment and some other apps like netflix and stuff. Since the MI 11 ultra I bought is coming with the global ROM I would lose those.

This is due to the unlocked bootloader and the uncertified play store.
So root + magisk or Xiaomi eu rom.

By using the root + Magisk everything is enabled again? Even OTA updates? Or just the functions that I asked?

Yeap, normally, for OTA (not sure) anyway you can do them manually and start again the root again each time.
Xiaomi Eu roms are 100% safe.
