Do any one click solutions work? - LG V40 Questions & Answers

I'm just about at my wit's end right now. I really want to root my phone because Substratum looks absolutely amazing but I can't seem to get any of the one click solutions to works. And I looked into some of the manual methods but they were fairly confusing.

Just look through the forum. There's a few threads on how to root this phone, and there's no other way right now...

Do you perhaps have a link? I did search but all I could find was a guy willing to do it for people but I guarantee he wants money for it and I can't afford that right now.

That's the exact thread I was referring to in my last post and, like I said, I don't have the money for that.

Well, that's a shame. Seems like I have terrible luck when buying phones. Every time I get a new phone, it always ends up being one of the few phones that can't be rooted.

Well it can easily be rooted, but the part that isn't easy is unlocking the Bootloader. And in order to root you must have the Bootloader unlocked and luckily we have 2 people who are willing to unlock it for us for a very reasonable price.

yea...like he can block phones? What is he? the Prime Minister of UK?
Lol, you both agreed on a deal. Was the phone in perfect working order before you gave it to him? If so your safe. That is rediculous. You guys traded, and after HE breaks it, he wants his phone back.

Why would he even want to do that? I doubt the person would be willing to give a phone back that they bought/traded for. What exactly is wrong with it.

it doesnt have 3g...there is a touch screen problem and battery is bad
Uhm, it's the UK version, why would he expect 3g unless he's on T-Mobile? Why doesn't he try a hard reset, if that doesn't work reflash to original ROM. I always buy two batteries when I get a new phone... Never know when I might need one.

Never used a Nexus 4 so can't compare, I did however make the jump up from the HTC One X, a very powerful handset although highly underrated by the general public...
It was a good jump up, I am astounded constantly by my One, sometimes even just picking it up to hold it in my hands, not doing anything with it, just nice to hold it

I think it's a worth while upgrade, I don't believe that you'd regret it.
It might be a good idea to wait for a little bit until the first batches are gone and you can get a 2nd batch handset.
I've got no issues really with mine, it's a decent handset and I love it harder than any phone I've ever owned.
I think the fact that you're asking this in the 'One' threads is a bit hit & miss as we're probably more biased towards getting one than not but then again we can give you an accurate idea of what the handset is like... swings & roundabouts.

Switching from the S5...

Ok so..
Its been about 12 days since I have had this phone. I thought I could be patient enough with it to maybe wait for a root (if developers are even still working on it.)
Turns out I am not so patient.. I would rather switch to a company like HTC who is kind enough to give tools to their customers who want the option to do what they want with their own ****ing cell phone that they purchased. :highfive:
Anyway..
My question is: Is anyone familiar with the return policy? I am pretty sure that it is 14 days and I can trade it back in hopefully for an M8, but if someone that has experience or knowledge with this can shed some more light I would be very grateful.
Second question would be do you guys think the HTC One M8 is the best option for me right now? Ill be going through at&t and I want to be able to root and flash roms. Preferably some of the more popular ones like AOKP or Pac-Man etc..

just go do it. why do you need to ask about it when you already know the terms. simply call them or go to the store.
Later.
I am not sure about the terms, that's why I posted on these forums asking. That's why I said "I'm pretty sure" and asked if someone who knew for sure could give me more details. :good:

what's the point of posting anything here. whats the point of even sharing your thoughts of switching. if you made your decision, just go and do it. why ask us when you can ask AT&T? just leave man
Because I bought it on launch day and I am not sure how many days you get before you can return the phone. A lot of people are switching too or getting the TMO version, so I think a topic like this could become helpful to others as well.
Not sure why you are being rude, if you aren't going to help or say anything worth reading just stop typing. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings in showing that I think owning a locked down device isn't for me anymore.. it's still a great phone. I just thought I would be more patient or enjoy stock more, but I was wrong.

14 days from purchase to return and a $35 restocking fee are basically the terms.
Personally, I wouldn't switch. I think the S5 is a superior device even without root (for now). but you gotta do what's best for you. Good luck.

Thank you for a real reply and for the information, its really appreciated.
I think the S5 is a superior device too, but I really need root for certain apps. Not to mention flashing roms can be pretty fun.
Also sooo much bloat I just want to remove, not a big deal, but prefer a clean device.
Pretty sure mine will be going back in the next few days as well. I love the camera and the water resistance is great, but for the price, with the ehh battery life I've been getting and some annoying software stuff, it can't do anything that my international Note II can't.
In the future if/when someone can find an exploit and get root, I would definitely give it another shot.

Well the reason for the rush is I can return it for something that already has root and more development. I'd rather get more enjoyment now rather than hope and wait. Although if the return policy stated like 2 months or something, I'd honestly probably still wait those 2 months because I do enjoy this phone.
It's also the principal of the situation too though. I'm not ALL FOR companies that sell overpriced phones that, when bought, are just so locked down that i don't even feel like it's actually fully mine.
I've got a week to decide, I may stop in to have a look at the competition.
I've been seeing a lot of people posting that they aren't getting that great of battery life. I'm getting about 36 hours uptime with about 6 hours screen. Is that better or worse than what you guys are seeing? TIA.

There only seems to be a handful complaining, even on other forums people are getting crazy good battery life. Heck I can have on screen time of 4-5+ hours, tons of email, text, phone calls etc, all sync is on, gps is on etc.... and still have plenty life left at the end of the day, actually as I type this in similar situation I have 22% life left and been off the charger for 33 hours, and even browsing I still have 4 tabs open. First phone where the thought of not having enough battery doesn't even occur to me, going to be nice on trips lol.
Far as the OP, do what you have to do, though I don't know why you'd think root would've been available by now on this phone, this isn't the old days where people could crack same day. I liked the M8 but couldn't put up with the camera and bulkiness plus no water proofing.
I have the M8. If you like flashing and customizing it is a no brainer. I myself am running stock and still enjoy the device.
My wife has a S5. It's pretty and white and shimmers like nail polish. Perfect phone for a beautiful girl.
Also as far as the discussion of superiority of either device. It's an opinionated one. Each excels at their own intended goals.
If the camera of the M8 is scaring you, just ask yourself . " will I be on assignment for national geographic where I will need to take epic photos on the go?"
If you answered no, then this camera should be good enough for your personal use.
It seems like you're just asking for that little push for you to make the trade.
I am giving you that "push". Everything will be okay in HTC land....be free...
Oh yeah. Have fun with the raised speaker grills. The gamble on receiving two variations of the LCD screen and ... Yeah that's about it.
HTC UltimEight ?
It really depends on where you bought the device. Typical return policy would be 14 days. Some vendors do not charge a restocking fees on returns but "I heard" AT&T can charge you. This was forwarded to me from the sales rep. I got my S5 at Target and returned it. I was not charged with a restocking fee by them or At&t that I am aware of.
I got myself the M8 since I wanted root.

I have both, a gunmetal grey m8 and shimmery white tmo s5 sim unlocked for ATT, The m8 is great if you like to mod/customize, you can run Sense, GPE, or AOSP (cm is already being worked on)...The s5 (ATT) obviously is locked down....both phones are very nice it just depends if you need the ability to customize.

Best Rooting/Unlocking/Recovery advice

got my nexus 6 (t mobile) coming on Friday. whats the best rooting method? Any all in one tools that flash recovery and everything? Also, with Tmobile, they have the 5 gig lock on tethering even though its unlimited 4g. Does rooting and Roming help with that?

This.
My standard message:
There's nothing wrong with toolkits themselves. They can be great, useful tools. We're not even saying they cause bricks either - though users not understanding things *could* cause one...Toolkits are necessary on many devices, but on Nexuses, the manual steps are very easy.
Ultimately it's fine to use a toolkit but *only* if you already know how to do all these steps manually. If you do not know how to do that then you should do it manually so that you do know. The reason for this is if something goes wrong further down the line, we don't want to have to teach you the basics AND tell you what you need to do to fix whatever issue you have. We just want to do the latter - because teaching someone the basics that they should already know when they are frustrated and panicking is not a good set of circumstances to be teaching under and it is frustrating to us more than you and putting us in that situation is a little bit selfish

Well being that the xda app will not let me start a new thread for some reason I guess I will ask it here since I started this thread on my computer. Does anybody with T Mobile on this phone or any phone I guess experience delayed text messages still? I'm going to be switching from Verizon and I hope I'm not going to kick myself in the ass for this. I had an unlimited data plan but just got in over my head with two edged plans and very expensive devices was paying over $250 a month.

Yes agreed, don't use toolkits unless you know how to fix things if something goes wrong or you f it up. Adb isn't that hard if you practice a little and there are many articles that will help with learning it.

We have two Unlimited lines and one 2GB line (i.e., kids are growing up). I spoke in the store with a Salesperson who claimed he could get me a discount on a family package with 6GB shared for about $10 less/month than my current plans. Plus, I'd be able to purchase subsidized phones for the two (previously) unlimited lines, again. I wanted to check this out myself online, so looked later that evening and couldn't find what he offered.
The next day, I called Verizon and a Salesperson couldn't reproduce that deal, only giving me the $20+ greater cost that I'd already calculated using their online plan comparison tool.
So, it might depend on who you talk to (or, if your request is even reasonable).
Friends and relatives helped me understand that coverage seems good for all the major carriers in our area - I'd probably first consider Sprint if our unlimited plans went away and costs went up substantially for very little data/month.

its a new security system for the nexus.. even if you wipe the phone 10x and then flash the factory image, it will still ask for the previous owners security, unless he removed it. if it is removed, then it would be fine. and if he didnt, and you got the phone, he can reset his password, but it will take 3 days before it becomes affected. this is for people that steal devices, to keep you safe.

ask him. but chances are that he probably doesnt know that you have to remove it now(before you didnt have to). so, you might have to let him know that he has to remove his account first.

Yeah I'll ask. But is there a setting on the phone that says removed or not? Just a way to verify other than him just telling me its removed?

You should meet up at the carrier store you're trying to activate it at and have someone at the store make sure everything is ok and it activates. Also if you buy things from Craiglist a lot, you should have a receipt book and have the seller sign it and take a picture of the license plate or write it down so you can file a police report if things go sideways.

doesnt matter though, branded or not, they are exactly the same phone. but verizon employees dont seem to think so, they think it differs(but doesnt). many will even say that you cant use the unbranded one on verizon, but you can

That's not how craigslist scammers screw you. They usually have it insured and once they sell it they report it lost or stolen and you lose your money.
