Stuck at Bootloop with Bootloader locked. - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

Can anyone help me how to unlock the bootloader via fastboot since I cannot get in the software as I have a bootloop. I greatly appreciate it as I have been figuring out this for the past 5 hours. Thank you.

Hello Guys, I messed up as I did not unlock bootloader first before flashing it from fastboot. Now I have a bootloop. Can anyone help me how to reflash CN. I have a lock bootloader. Thank you very much.

Anybody?? Please help.

Any other phone if you don't flick oem unlock first in developer ootions it's a hardbrick. The Asus unlock tool apk does this. Did you install that first and unlock first? Hope you can recover

You're FUBAR for now, nobody has figured out a way to flash the phone without an unlocked bootloader. Just use it as a brick until someone finds out QDL9008 or other ways to flash it.

Your's ROG 2 can be boot into recovery mode?
If you can -- "adb sideload software.zip"

Yes. Is lock

Your only option is to go to ASUS service center in your area and ask them to repair it. If they accept to service it they will of course charge you for it which is better than having a bricked phone. Other than that your only option is to send the phone back to China there you can claim that the phone got a bootloop and since you didn't unlock the bootloader you are still covered by warranty meaning you will only pay shipping fees.

Thank you Rashad83. I just sent it to Asus Service Center with a fee.

Did you guys changing the Boot Slot?
Check your current boot slot by hitting -
fastboot oem device-info
Then change the slot to "B" if you're currently in "A"
Slot change command -
fastboot set_active_b

Guys, Please obtain an ASUS Raw firmware to recover your devices. Do not fall for tricks by various users around which asks to pay for them.
Just use Google and find yourself the correct RAW firmware for your model.

Hi, I've managed to unbrick my ROG Phone II Tencent Edition 8/128 with a locked bootloader having "slot _a" error. Link to other thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/how-to/repair-rog2-phone-edl-modeofficial-t4012175
My equipment for flashing, for sure you already have ADB installed in your computer, my computer is an x64 Intel Windows 10 laptop, I used USB 2.0 not USB 3.0
Credit to @johnny886 for the sharing the tool,
"If your phone can only enter EDL mode (9008 mode)
this firmware is glad to help you. It can be flashed in through
the QPST tool, or it can be flashed in through the Xiaomi miflash tool.
To use the QPST tool, you must change the EMMC to UFS. No matter which tool you use, -(I personally did not use this, I just downloaded the file and followed grewookie's instruction below)
you must restore the factory settings after the phone is turned on, otherwise the storage
of the phone will recognize the error! !! !!
Factory settings must be restored after booting! !! !!
The firmware is made through the official package UL-ASUS_I001_1-ASUS-16.0631.1910.35-1.1.207-user.zip
without any modification, Suitable for repairing phones that can only enter edl mode(9008 mode).
File Downlaod link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Pk...Sf6cDq7SuJiBBu"
Credits to @greywookiee for the super clear instruction:
"Here's some instructions I put together that would have helped save me a lot of time. Please correct anything I missed:
After you have downloaded the zip file, here are the step-by-step instructions:
1. Extract the zipped folder wherever you want on your PC.
2. Open a CMD window.
3. cd /d <whatever path it is to the "\ASUS_ROG2_ZS660KL_QPST_Firmware\images" folder> e.g., "cd /d D:\RogPhoneII\ASUS_ROG2_ZS660KL_QPST_Firmware\imag es"
4. Make sure your PC is connected to the side port of your phone and the phone is in fastboot mode (Volume UP button + Power button).
5. Check and make sure your PC is connected properly by entering "fastboot devices" in the command window. You should see the ID of your device.
6. Then enter "fastboot oem enter-dload" in the command window. This will put the phone in emergency download mode (EDL). My phone went all black.
7. Open "\ASUS_ROG2_ZS660KL_QPST_Firmware\MiFlash2018-5-28-0" folder. Launch "XiaoMiFlash.exe".
8. Click "refresh". You should see a device in the list.
9. Click "select" and navigate to the "\ASUS_ROG2_ZS660KL_QPST_Firmware\images" folder.
10. Click "flash". Wait until it says "success".
11. After it's done, you'll hold down the UP button, Down button, and Power button on the phone at the same time until it shuts down.
12. Hold Up button and Power button at same to boot into fastboot mode again. Select Recovery mode by using the Up/Down buttons on the phone. Press the Power button to select.
13. Select "wipe data" from the drop down list. Go down the list of "no" until you get to the "yes" and press the Power button.
14. Select "reboot now".
15. Done."

New Nexus 6 stuck in a bootloop trying to update to 5.1, please help.

Hey everyone I'm looking here as my last resort before sending my phone back to Motorola.
Bought a Nexus 6 from motorola uk which was delivered yesterday, switched phone on and all the Google apps on the phone updated, then had a notification OTA to download and install android 5.1 which I did, towards the end of the install process I had an error with the green android and a red exclamation mark.
I powered the device off with the power button and it turned back on and ever since it says "Android is starting" "Optimizing app 1 of 125" once it goes through all the apps it gets to the android boot screen then just goes back to the "Android is starting" "Optimizing app 1 of 125" over and over and over. (Infinite bootloop)
Pointers: The phone is not unlocked or rooted as I'm a noob its just fresh out the box, also I never opened/unlocked the developer options.
I have tried various recovery mode fixes, wiping cache and wiping all data and then rebooting the device with no luck.
Is there anyway I can hook my N6 up to my computer and fix this with a tool kit etc? I'm willing to try but I'd need basic instructions and reassurance it wouldn't muck up my warranty if it didn't work as my only other option is to exchange for a new device.
Any help, advice etc would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

Read the guide on how to fastboot flash a factory image. No toolkit necessary.
Would you mind posting a link to a guide? I forgot to add that I don't want my phone to become rooted by trying to fix this issue, I want to keep it stock like it was, also does not have developer options enabled stop me from going further.
Sorry for the questions I'm a noob to this and quite anxious.

I've made the fastboot adb folder on my PC and attached my phone whilst it was in bootloader mode, I types in the command box adb devices and there is no list of attached devices.
I presume this is because I didn't enable developer options or USB debugging?

When in bootloader mode type : fastboot devices
-Edit- just read that your bootloade is still locked so i`am afraid there is nothing you can do to fix the issue as you cannot flash firmware with a locked bootloader. Best is to claim warranty because of a software issue while updating.

Thought this would be the case, I went into adb fastboot and typed in fastboot devices and its showing some letters and numbers next to fastboot on screen if that helps.
In the future I presume I should make sure to enable developer options first so I can get out if this mess?
Also would it be best when I get my new n6 just to sideload the latest update marsmellow by getting the factory image from the Google website? Last question can I skip from 5.0 straight to 6.0 sideloading or do I have tobdo it one at a time?
Thanks for trying to help matey

Next time enable usb debugging and ENABLE OEM UNLOCK, both in developer options. You can flash the latest firmware available directly in fastboot by flashing the individual img files.
Here is a link to setup adb/platform-tools https://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=...orial/&usg=AFQjCNGolazOWoMssTikMpokJ6TtwEND5A.

It says this on my Nexus 6 phone screen.
Unlock bootloader?
If you unlock the bootloader, you will be able to install custom operating system on this phone.
A custom OS is not subject to the same testing as the original OS, and can cause your phone and installed applications to stop working properly.
To prevent unauthorized access to your personal data, unlocking the bootloader will also delete all personal data from your phone (a "factory data reset".)
Press the volume up/down buttons to select yes or no. Then press power button to continue.
Yes (Unlock bootloader, may void warranty)
No. ( Do not unlock bootloader and restart phone)

Sure, but first we have to get the phone working again,

Mi Mix fresh out of the box - How do I get Resurection Remix on it?

Hi Community,
I'm a little bit "scared" to ask for the following, but I have read a lot about it and I'm just getting more confused, so I hope someone can bring clarity.
Situation looks like this: I will unpack my Mi Mix 256gb EU-version this evening and I want to put Resurection Remix on it. Now, what steps do I need to follow to get this done? I know the steps of each process is written in the related post, but how does it play together?
I understood that I need TWRP (to add and remove roms, right?) and then install the rom on top of it. Also, is it then rooted? flashed? unlocked? If I would want the original software on it again, is it possible to install it without leaving marks of the rom?
What confuses me also is, that I somehow have to unlock something through the xiaomi page and wait a few days?
Thank you in advance and best regards from Switzerland!
Everything you need to know is in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix/how-to/guide-flash-global-china-rom-root-gapps-t3510592
Dont forget to decrypt your phone after you unlock your bootloader.
First you have to unlock your bootloader in order to flash recovery or fastboot rom. I will add all the links you need in order , so that you can access them fast and without problems.
For unlocking your bootloader first login into your Mi Account on your Mix , after this is done , go to unlock site (en.miui.com/unlock) and apply for unlock permissions ( Remember to use the same account you logged into your device if not you won´t be able to unlock it).Remember too to enable Developer Settings and allow Usb Debugging.
Afer this is done download and find this on google (xda adb drivers) and if you have windows its super -easy to set it up ( Remember to execute the batch file with admin privileges)
Once this is done if you still have adb problems just google and install universal adb driver, I will give you all the links at the end.
After all this and you have received approbation from Xiaomi to unlock and got the code , just plug-in your phone to your computer and enter fastboot mode ( Volume down+power buttons at the same time).
Open Mi Unlock program and enter the same account you used for unlock permissions and your device. After this is done wait for the unlock process to finish and click reboot.
Once you have rebooted your device download twrp , put it into adb folder (C://Adb) and with your device plugged-in type next : adb fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (or the name of your twrp.img , or just change it to twrp).
If you followed all the steps you should have twrp working and ready to flash any rom without problems. If you need more help just answer or send pm . Good luck and happy flashing.

doesn't work, I had to go this route:
http://en.miui.com/thread-500625-1-1.html
and to threadstarter: if you are not in China, you don't have to do the unlock request. If you're on EU rom already, you're unlocked. Just use the thread I posted, it is much, much easier.
You have to use the version in the thread I linked (official MIUI forum) or you'll get a TWRP where the touchscreen doesn't work and you can't confirm

Things have changed, most people did this a year ago when there was no EU ROM, just China ROM and vendor ROM, most came with bootloader unlocked, which is the first thing you should of checked. The fact you have EU ROM would normally mean that bootloader has been unlocked but sometimes they re-lock the device.

Just a quick follow up:
I waited 59 hours and now I could successfully unlock the phone. Will proceed now with TWRP. Yey.

Xiaomi Mi A2 bricked after Update.

So, I just got a brand new Xiaomi Mi A2 and it went well during one week.
Last Saturday, during an OTA official update the phone asked to reboot and never came back to life. It is stuck in the android logo.
I read some info online that said it can be flashed using fastboot and MI flashing tool. I tried to do it with the official rom, but once bootloader is locked, I was unable to do so.... Found other people saying that I could flash it using test point, but it required that I opened my phone...I don't want to lose my warranty and I'm not sure if that it will work either...
Please help me.

Why don't you use your warranty bringing this brick to official dealer?
As you have not unlocked phone, the only 2 variants you have: official service or test point (opening back cover and so on////)
I though that the A/B partition thing was making the phone unbrickable from system update...

Once I have bought it from a Chinese website, I would have to send it back to China and wait for their decision....Which would cost me a lot (shipping it from Portugal to China) and would make me wait about one month for the problem to be solved...
If I was 100% sure that test point method would work, I would rather do that. Solving the problem in one day.
Unlock the bootloader via Fastboot the instructions are on this site then your be able to flash the stock rom.

But first you need to enable oem unlocking from developer options. I have no idea how you can do that without a working system.

Yeah, I have tried "fastboot oem unlock_critical" too, same result.... How the hell can Xiaomi sent out an update that bricks their phones? If I open up the phone I will lose warranty for sure, but if I don't I'm just gonna be stuck with a brick for one month...
Also, I'm not 100% sure that test point method will work out well

I think that xiaomi has lost the game about android one. Maybe you try a factory reset via recovery, if you don't know how to do this push power button and volume + button until you go to an empty screen with a died android and u push again power button and volume + button once to enter recovery, then wipe data and factory reset.
I've the same issue here with the phone from a firend. Never had such a nightmare with another phone (just something similar with sony)
I don't understand why they making such a "running circle"... Phone won't start after a normal OTA update, now i want to reflash the stock--> bootloader unlock required --> cannot be unocked because OEM unlock was not enabled.... OMG what a stupid system...
So gentleman, i think there is no solution for that and he have to return th phone to the seller, right?

Xiaomi has auto bricked after update- need help

Hey guys, i have MI A2 cellphone, and after auto update programmed to three hours the smartphone show "AndroidONE" logo and then shutdown, i tried "Fastboot oem unlock", but it is my output:
PHP:
C:\Users\Lucas Daniel>fastboot oem unlock
FAILED (remote: 'Flashing Unlock is not allowed
')
Finished. Total time: 0.000s
. I'm desperate, I do not know what to try anymore, I believe I do not have unlock OEM activated, someone can help me?
Sorry for bad english, i'm from brazilian.
@LukeSkyPTBR
It's a well-known issue. One update was revoked as soon as Xiaomi has found out about phones bricking once it's installed. There's no way you can fix it by yourself except if you have ordered your phone from China (and so no warranty you have) and have experience in disassembling phones. There's a thing called test-point, do some research if you are self-assured in that area. Otherwise let your authorized service center make everything for you. It is a warranty case, either way.

Thanks, looks that, unfortunately, my unique solution is test-point for activate EBL Mode... I will leave the topic open for the case of i get other solutions... after 3 days, if not get, i will close and the unique solution will really test-point.
Try rebooting it a couple of times and see if it boots. Or plug it to a charger and try booting it once it starts to charge successfully. If all fails, flashing via EDL might be your only option.
Try rebooting more than couple of time. Phone is supposed to switch to the other slot of A/B where original ROM (before update) resides. When it finally boots, get developer rights, switch on ADB Debugging and OEM unlock, thus next time update soft-bricks your phone you'll be able to unlock (or even better unlock immediately after successful boot not to loose your data in future).
Isnt Fastboot OEM Unlock command deprecated ? Shouldn't you use the unlock / unlock critical command ?

I tried to press the power button for 2 minutes and nothing happened.
When i leave the smartphone on the charge, after 50 minutes, show for me 100% percent, so, i pressed power button and the screen stayed lock in "AndroidONE", nothing happened, until try again press power button.

I can enter fastboot mode, but this is not enough to do run commands up. I would need unlock bootloader(OEM).

If you can enter fastboot then you can go to EDL mode by typing 'fastboot reboot edl' and then use QPST to flash the latest stock rom.

Do as tabun1994 said.
This will hopefully get the system up again.
The commands I wrote would unlock the bootloader. What else could I have meant?
If you succeeded with tabun's method, then you probably would only need to enable "USB debugging" and "OEM unlocking" in the ROM's developer options (which you'll enable by hitting "build number" in settings like 10 times or so).
Then you would connect the device and accept the 'trust this device' warning.
After booting to fastboot now, the commands I wrote should work and unlock the bootloader (if you even want that when your system is running again).

This command needs OEM Unlock :/
this is my output: fastboot: usage: unknown reboot target edl
The test point method is actually easy , you have to dissasemble the display , easy procedure , remove the battery and short the two test points with tweezerz or something ,and in the meantime you plug the usb cable into the computer. It should install the Qusb_Hub drivers , and with miFlash you should be able to reflash the firmware . I bought a phone that was in this state and fixed it using these steps.
No more solutions, I will do the test point method, thanks to everyone who tried to help otherwise.

No it doesn't, i have tried this method on locked bootloader, go to this link - https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...e-how-to-reboot-to-edl-fastboot-t3394292/amp/
And download the fastboot_edl.7z , your phone will be in edl mode, I think you don't have the proper platform files which has caused the problem.

Question IDK Redmi 10S

Hi there.
I wanted to root a Redmi 10S device. Bootloader was also opened. The flash went during fastboot mode, then after the fastboot reboot command, the device restarted, but it only shows "Redmi" and the word android at the bottom. I tried to access recovery and fastboot mode, but powr+volD only restarts the device and only the Redmi inscription is visible.
I don't know what they call this state in which the device is.
If there is a suitable link on the forum, I would appreciate it.
Hi there!
What did you flash excatly?
I mean, did you flash the whole phone, or just a patched boot image?

Then, you don't have to flash the whole phone again, just flash back the original image, and try rooting with twrp and magisk zip file (rename the apk file from magisk.apk to magisk.zip, and then flash it in twrp)
If you can't install twrp, or something went wrong, take a full backup from your phone (like using google's backup service, and Miui backup--> it 'll save the backup to internal storage/miui/backup/AllBackup) and then ypu can reflash the phone with mi flash tool, but don't lock the bootloader back, and after flash, you shuold enable oem unlock in developer settings.
One quick question:
Did you enable oem unlocking in developer settings, before trying to flash the modified image?

Can't enter fastboot mode. The device only shows "Redmi" lettering. If fatboot worked, I could have done it already. power+volume down, the device just restarts and shows "redmi".
Hmm..
And if you holding the volD and power buttons together for a longer time?
Like a min, or sth
I had a similar situation, but after a few tries it went into fastboot mode

it just restarts, as long as I press and hold volume down+power, if I don't press it, it just shows the redmi text

Hi there the forgive my on my bad english and text.
The Only thing u can do is restoring the firmware by using brom mode, Look it up or follow the steps i'll give u....
First keep in mind brom works best Without the batary conected . So remove the thin cover plate at the back u can loosen it with heat , after removing the cover move all screws and remove the housing so u can disconect the batary at the mainboard .
Next u will have to install the Vcom drivers according your chipset mediatek etc.
For the Vcom drivers and install of it u can follow https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-16640.html
U must download or allready have a firmware file in fastboot format , Open up SP Flash tool and go to optionsd and select connection, click the w/o battery option and close it. Open your scatter file and than click on download . Insert your phone wile holding your volume down or up , with my device a redmi note 10s it was the up and down to getter for it was flashing the rom. this should flash your device back with a working fastboot and working rom.
Hope u will succeed...

Yep, this guy here 's got the point. If you can't flash with sp flash tool because auth fail, there's a method to bypass it.
You can find the tutorial here: https://www.getdroidtips.com/bypass-mediateks-sp-flash-tool-authentication-protection/

But, if someone can recommend a device intended for gaming, but easy to root, then I will buy one
