Sony tool only shows old firmware? - Sony Xperia XZ3 Questions & Answers

I recently got a xz3 with unlocked bootloader. It got a tad old firmware and since it's unlocked it's not entirely straight forward through OTA(afaik).
Anyway, I went to the Sony Open Devices page and download their flash tool(Emma). When I run it it finds my phone with App-Sw: 1313-7490 52.0.A.3.163, CDF: 1316-4789 R12B which is good. But in the Services window I only get "H9436 52.0.A.3.84 Customized_UK 1316-4519 R11B User-Live COM" as either Firmware Update or Software Update Content Erase. Isn't this an older firmware or am I missing something?
In their walk-through video the get more choices by pressing the View all button, but that one is greyed out for me.

System update/software update option missing

Hi,
I am currently the owner of a P10 VTR-L09GBRC5555
The phone is branded by Three UK(carrier) but not locked into theyr network. I am on android 7.0 nougat (B152) and after a while I realised that the software update option is nowhere to be seen. I unlocked the bootloader before but locked it back beacouse I wasn't able to use banking apps beacouse of it. I have a screenshot of my device with the software update missing, any ideas why this is happening? Do let me know if you need any more info I can provide in the hope that somebody can help me.
Regards
Where's your screenshot?
The unlocked bootloader and root can be hid by MagiskHide - it works fine BTW.
Only fix I can provide you is to do a factory reset via eRecovery.
Backup all your data with HiSuite app on PC - note that it doesn't backup Photos and Videos, so copy them manually to SD or PC.
Then boot into eRecovery by connecting USB, power off the phone and power it on again while holding Vol+.

Are you sure that f/w is correct? Have you flashed a different firmware when rooting etc and now update is missing? The option to update should still be on HiSuite if you plug into computer?

I don't believe Magisk hides from all banking apps etc. I used to have it on my old phone and Barclays wouldn't hide. Have asked people to confirm if this is still the case but haven't had a response.

Hi, and thank you for your involvement, I hadn't flashed anything on the phone. When I unlocked it via a code from Huawei I was trying to rebrand it from Three UK to a normal variant, non branded by carrier. As I read online rebranding must be done to a VTR L29, so a dual sim or else my sim would not be recognizer. The rebranding process didn't take place beacouse I did not know how to do it, it is just too complicated for me. At the time I had B152 on the phone, and I found in FF an approved B152 software, and I flashed that, or rather just made a kind of software update via system update option. Since then I seem to be missing the update software option. The screenshot is missing from the tread beacouse I am a newbie and the forum will not let me upload things yet.
Regards.
Fix?
Hi, did you ever find a fix for this? I am having the same issue. Currently on B152 with no stock applications and update settings missing

XZ3 H9493

I'm planning to get H9493, 6gb ram model. I'm wondering can i flash the US firmware on it? (for At&t VoLTE)

One thing I wanna ask everyone here: Amazon also sells the 6GB int'l version (H9493) of the XZ3 for cheaper than the U.S. one, and this site seems to confirm that it not only has all the exact same bands one would need for T-Mobile (2, 4, and 12) and prob AT&T too, but also VoLTE. It's also a Dual SIM version too, though I would only ever use one SIM card.
But if the bands are all the same ones we use in the U.S., would we need to flash it with the U.S. software??

I'm not saying I know for sure, but it APPEARS that all the models, or at least the single SIM H8416 and the dual SIM H9493 (both are sold on U.S. Amazon) have the same radio bands. The H8416 that I got off Amazon was supposed to be the "U.S. version" (with warranty), but when I got it, despite the LTE reception status being int'l and not U.S. in terms of looks (4G shows as LTE, 4G LTE shows as LTE+), VoLTE still works, and I definitely am getting all the T-Mobile bands at least (2, 4, and 12). So that is why I'm asking this? It APPEARS that all the models of the XZ3 have the same radio bands again, so yeah.

YW!
I haven't, but I started this thread which discusses both AT&T and T-Mobile and the XZ3. I suggest you check it out! Though it mainly looks at the single SIM H8416 version.

I don't think you can flash it. The H9493 is a dual sim model (please correct if I'm wrong), and on Xperifirm there is no Customized US version for it.

And since it's a dual sim model, and you try flashing a single sim one, you won't be able to obviously use your 2nd sim. If that's not an issue for you, then I guess you can try it.

Very interesting!!
Yeah that's the thing, I could care less about using a 2nd SIM. I only need 1 and of course MicroSD card.
So you think it would work then, even though it's a Dual SIM phone?

I read threads on the XZP forum about people flashing the single sim firmware on their dual sim phone. What I've gained from that is the phone will still work, minus the functionality for the 2nd sim, since the modem configs are different. I haven't tried it myself, don't see any harm in trying it anyway.

Ok great! You da MAN iArvee! LOL :good:
Can you explain the process of flashing? How difficult is it? Does it involve rooting or unlocking bootloaders?? God I hope not. lol
I don't have an issue with Sony Companion as I've used it before though. But I'll admit I'm intimidated by anything complicated. I once unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and S-OFF'd my old HTC One M8. It wasn't fun. LOL

It's fairly simple compared to other OEMs. You don't need to unlock the bootloader nor need root. It's as easy as downloading the firmware, repacking it, then flashing it. The easiest way to flash is using Flashtool, however I don't think that flashtool has been updated yet to support the XZ3.
There is another way using newflasher, no need to repack the firmware. Just place the .exe file in the folder of the downloaded firmware and flash. While it's the same as Flashtool, I prefer flashtool because there are settings you can change (if you want).

Ok. That doesn't sound too bad then. And AWESOME on no bootloader or root stuff! lol
But how did you do it then if Flashtool (which I HAVE heard of) doesn't support the XZ3 then?
Ok let's just say I use newflasher. That sounds MUCH easier! lol I'm assuming it's good then for the XZ3 right? Also, what's the link for the U.S. firmware please?
So I connect my phone to my PC.........put the downloaded firmware "folder" into say the root directory of my Xperia, then put in newsflasher.exe into that folder, and double-click on it (exe)? This is what the instructions here on XDA say to do. But it also (Step 2) says something about putting my phone into "flash mode"? WTF is that? lol Do I have to do that? If so, how??
Well, what settings does Flashtool allow you to change? I just wanna see if it's worth it to deal with it if I don't have to. lol
Thanks!!!!!!!

I used newflasher.
That's the wrong link for flashtool. Here's the correct one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
You can download the firmware using a software called Xperifirm. The settings that Flashtool allows you to change is keep userdata, basically just flash the firmware but leave your installed apps, documents, whatever is on the internal storage intact (and more settings, but that's basically the gist of the settings). You can do that also using newflasher, however since there's no settings menu, you have to just not include a few files.
Flash mode is done by turning your phone off, then holding volume down while plugging your phone in to the PC. Once the notification LED turns green, that means it's in flash mode.

Oh ok. Then I will use Newsflasher too! No repacking?? I'm IN!! LOL
Yeah I just had a random site for Flashtool bookmarked from a while ago. I'll remove it.
Ahh I see. Well I'd rather just do a clean flash. Less chance of issues. lol
Ok so using PC I download U.S. H9493 firmware folder (please confirm that is best site), and yes I know to find H9493 firmware now, and Newsflasher. Put Newsflasher.exe file INTO the firmware folder, then connect phone (turned off) to my PC via USB WHILE pressing the volume DOWN button until the green notification LED light on my XZ3 turns on. Then let it flash by double-clicking newsflasher.exe, and then after it's done, check log file for any errors, then unplug phone and start it up! And then finally put it through Sony Companion ("Software Repair") ftw for extra assurance. Sounds right??
Will Sony Companion know or detect the U.S. firmware? If I do a software repair, will it vary how it does that by model, or is the process the same for all models? I know you did it but you did it on the U.S. H8416 version. Do I have anything to worry about there? I'm guessing no since all the radio bands & VoLTE option are in all 3 models. But let me know if you think I should skip this or just do it.

Basically just leave everything in if you'll do a clean flash.
Download the one from XDA: https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
Sounds right! Just make sure you install the XZ3 drivers. Google Xperia XZ3 drivers. Should be a sony developer link. Yes, Xperia Companion will know what firmware you are on. When you do a software repair, it will just redownload and reflash whatever firmware is on your phone. However, if you flash the single sim version, I'm not sure if that will work on Xperia Companion. Again, you can try!
I'd just do it. It's really hard to brick Xperia phones. If you do something wrong, you can always just reflash again. But don't take my word for it. I've been rooting, flashing, created some mods, and have a lot of experience with Xperia phones since 2014. I'm just speaking from experience.

The drivers aren't automatically installed (well the right ones anyway) so it's best to install them yourself. Download the ZIP (yes thats the correct link), extract the zip, right click on the INF file, then click install.
Yep, should be fine.

[GUIDE] Downgrade + Bootloader Unlock

Hi there.
I decided to post a guide on how to downgrade and unlock the bootloader of "Huawei P Smart"
I've seen a lot of people now knowing how to downgrade, to a unlockable firmware.
Please note that "Bootloader unlocking" costs 4€ using this method!
I do not take responsibility for any phone that Is bricked or damaged In any way, by using this guide!
Required Stuff:
Huawei P Smart (any model)
Charging Cable
Windows PC
DC-Unlocker (easily found on google)
Firmware Finder Huawei (found on Play Store)
And of course 4€ If you are unlocking bootloader.
Downgrading
Here Is my current firmware:

First of all we need Firmware Finder:
After that we open It and It should have a button with your phone model.
In my case I am using a FIG-LX1
On the list of firmware's I selected FIG-LX1C432B129 (8.0.0.129)
Now you should get to another menu and select the eRecovery option.
Then you should get this handy message with a DNS Address you need to enter In your Router.
In my case I found It under basic settings, and my default gateway was 192.168.0.1
After this Is done, disconnect, and reconnect to your WiFi on the phone.
Then press the "Open QUERY" button, on the same page as we got the DNS address.
Make sure the website looks like this.
Now press next, and you should get a "check availability" button
Should say this.
Press OK and press next.
Now press the "Register Update button.
Should come with a small popup saying that you registered It.
Now press next, and press OK on the second pop-up.
Now you need to power down your device.
Then you simply Insert the charger and immediately start holding volume up.
Release once you see this screen.
Press the "Download latest Version" button.
Then you should get into this screen.
Here you just need to press the "Download and Recovery"
It should connect to WiFi, and should start downloading like this.
Remember to check that It Is the 8.0.0.129(C432) Firmware!
After this Is done you should get into a bootloop.
This Is easily fixed by holding Power + Volume UP.
Now you should be In normal recovery.
Just press "Wipe Cache" and then "Factory Reset"
Now your phone will reset, and should boot into first time setup.
No need to set It up completely If you are going to unlock bootloader!
Here Is my Build Number after his procedure.
If your phone Is like mine, congratz on the Downgrade
Bootloader Unlock
Now for the bootloader unlocking.
As mentioned before you will need 4€ for this procedure!
First of all.
enable developer options. (press Build Number 7 times)
Then make sure USB Debugging, and OEM Unlock Is enabled!
Now we need to go to the dial pad, and enter In the number: *#*#2846579#*#*
It should get you to a menu like this one:
Once in that menu, go Into "Background Settings" and select "USB Port Settings"
In there select "Manufacture Mode"
Now plug In your USB, and open up, DC-Unlocker.
On the left Select "Huawei Phone", and press the Left button.
Then It should detect your phone like this:
Now you need to press the "Buy Credits" button, and go through their form.
Remember to buy 4 credits (he cost of bootloader code).
Even easier, you can get the DC-Unlocker app from the Play Store, and get credits through that.
They will send you a password for your account, once payment received.
Now press the "Server" Tab and login.
Then go to "Unlocking tab" and press "Read Bootloader Code"
It should give you your bootloader code.
Now comes the easy part!
Go Into the folder where you downloaded DC-Unlocker
In the address bar, type "CMD" (without the "") and press Enter.
You should get command prompt up like this.
Now you simply enter these commands.
adb devices. (make sure your phone Is listed)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices (make sure device Is listed)
fastboot oem unlock *KEY* (replace *KEY* with your bootloader code from DC-Unlocker.
now you should see a "Yes or No" screen on your phone.
Press Vol up/down move and Power to select.
Now your phone will reboot, and automatically reset Itself.
All data will be erased.
After this It should pop-up like this, and then boot Into Android.
If everything went according to plan.
You should be unlocked and ready to flash some Roms
I recommend flashing OpenKirin roms, since they are specific for this chipset!
Sorry for the VERY big pictures, and hope you could use this tutorial :fingers-crossed:

Also, I can't put my phone into Manufacture mode; when I enter the dial code the dialer just resets :/ Edit: After downgrading Firmware it worked
Thanks so much for the guide man!
Nova 2
Hello,
Thank you so much for your tuto.
I have a problem with firmware finder. I'd like to downgrade my Huawei Nova 2 to Nougat so I chose one of the firmware proposed with EMUI 5. But when I click on "check availibility", It send me to the first page where I have to chose my phone model.
Please help me... I really need to unlock my bootloader, I thought I would succeed with your tuto I was so close...
Tell me if you have some suggestions.
Thank you so much.

Sorry for late reply, currently working on some stuff
I don't have a Huawei Nova 2 so I am not the best to ask
This guide with bootloader unlock is intended for Huawei P Smart.
That being said try: reinstalling the app, and select the earliest firmware for the phone
When i tried downgrade not working. Is there any new solution?
FIG-LA1
I can't downgrade at Erecovery it says get download information failed.

use only full OTA stock update you downloaded from internet on pc using chrome but download from creators of firmware finder team MT... then global search in XDA for hurupdater.. follow instructions to apply stock rom sd card.. doesnt matter if it's a downgrade it will flash
But if i use hurupdater, do i need bootloader unlocked.
So now my bootloader is locked and can i use hurupdater?

I paid a guy who did it all for me downgrade and bootloader £9, if you can downgrade yourself it's only 5£ for bootloader unlock. I've been around a while but I class myself as a noob. The website is called MOS ministry of solutions. However now I've been there done unlock, root, twrp which was only last week I'd say it's a waste of time, unless you really know what your doing but even then these guys in here have gone full circle back to stock. I've gone full circle not just to stock, removed root and back to stock recovery. Only thing I took from root was I managed to make the speaker louder as one of my motivations for root was viper which don't work on Huawei or specifically psmart for sure. So sorry to say this but at this stage there isn't much development for psmart which is because Huawei have made it difficult. I'd advise against mods of any kind at this stage. I was rooted less than a week and multiple resets, soft bricks and not much success with magisk modules that count like viper.
i used erecovery method also, i think my version block all methods using firmware finder. my version FIG-LX1 8.0.0.163(C432). Any one have success downgrade with this version?
Finally, yesterday i bought new sd card 16gb and dowload a firmware which is old one from androidhost ru. And downgrade is completed. I bought bootloader unlock code reader from google play store dc unlocker and happy ending

with this method your firmware will be changed like 8.0.0.046.
when your bootloader unlocked succesfully.
VolUp + Power and use Erecovery to dowmload correct version

This is true, unless you plan to install a custom ROM like Open Kirin, then there is no point

Yes, i used aosp 9.0 but battery performance was bad. I turn back stock version. I could not find custom rom with better battery performance.
Did someone tried to unlock P Smart 2019 model?

Downgrading android 9 pie to 8 oreo

Recently updated my Honor 9 lite device to 9.1, it won't let be do anything. I can't rotate my screen, apps keep running in background, battery is terrible and can not install apps from play store(tried to reinstall the google play services by uninstalling it updates and everything). 9.1 on the device is terrible.
How do i degrade my android version. Reply ASAP
Firstly do not demand some one reply ASAP it's very rude to do so.
Secondly back up your important data as roll backing your firmware will trigger the device to erase itself (Very important)
Thirdly once you have done the first 2 steps connect your mobile to your computer and use the latest version of HiSuite and use the recover system option this should give you the option to roll back your firmware.

I can't confirm this. I am trying to downgrade my Honor 9 Lite (LLD-L31C432) to Android 8 right now for the "dload folder method" and I not being able to. When I put the UPDATE.APP inside dload folder on root partition of SD Card, I got an error and is not possible to downgrade.
Also try HiSuite but this phone is not compatible. Any advice?
I am very disappointed with Huawei. First it removes the possibility of unlocking the bootloader by official route and then removes the option to downgrade. Probably my first and last Huawei's phone.
If you take this route i am not responsible for any bricks!
Right, for starters C432 Devices are known not to work with DLOAD with Firmware Finder files.
You say HiSuite is not working for you. This might be because Android 9 requires HiSuite 9.
So simply head here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78850439&postcount=1317
Follow instructions and it will work.
Also make sure you downgrade with
https://pro-teammt.ru/en/online-firmware-database/?firmware_model=LLD-L31C432&firmware_page=0
Leland-L31AC432改B144 (8.0.0.144) LLD-L31C432B144 (8.0.0.144) which is the first one in the link above as that will roll you back to Android 8.0.

thank you. I am downloading the firmware and will make you know if that works. Just one question: what I exactly have to do in step 4? I have to search my device model as in the screenshot, select the firmware, register it on "DNS Update" then go to step 5? Sorry about the newbie question. I have no experience with FF and HiSuite.
Step 4 is to open the link that i already made for you to go directly to the right firmware page, then right clicking the firmware i told you which would of gave you
Code:
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G2052/g1647/v266695/f1/full/changelog.xml
Then in FF Tool select DNS Update, paste the link you just got or the one above that again i have just sorted for you.
Click Register then whilst FF is still open use HiSuite.
Then when the phone shows in HiSuite click Update, you should then have the option to downgrade from there.
Now please can i get one with Waking up, taking my meds so i can go to get my bloods done.

yep... I got this. But when I flash the firmware via HiSuite, the phone just bricked and now I have a totally black screen. It doesn't turn off or on. Any advice? I already download a Pie firmware, but the phone isn't beeing detected by ADB.
Press and hold power button for 10 seconds.
Then plug the cable into the charger and press Volume up and power on the phone and place the other part of the charge cable into the phone.
This has to be done with the charger not a computer.
If that works then it should show a menu to download the latest recover and use that to get your phone back online.

Tried. No signal of life. Nothing happen.
When you connect it to a PC does it show in device manager?
Also press pressing the power button for 10 seconds then puttin the cable to the phone whilst it's not plugged into anything then pressing volume down and place the cable into the pc. See if fastboot shows up. If fastboot shows up you could try recovery option in HiSuite.
Sent from my SNE-LX1 using Tapatalk
yes, as Android Bootloader Interface.
See if you can use HiSuite to recover the phone. Install the basic driver for ADB and fastboot.
Also I have to go now, as my hospital appointment awaits me.

(1) yes, as Android Booloader Interface.
(2) my phone (LLD-L31(C42)) isn't suppoted by HiSuite. So, I can't use it.
obs.: my phone is beeing recognized by fastboot:
.\fastboot.exe devices
MKJNW18503004415 fastboot
---------- Post added at 06:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:42 AM ----------
ok. I will wait for you. I need to sleep as well.
See if HiSuite 5 will detect your device and recover it else I am unsure what you can do after this point. There is a telegram group that you could get help from failing that.
Sent from my SNE-LX1 using Tapatalk
I have HiSuite 5.0.x.x here. I will try it.
You talk about Big Huawei Exploits group?
HiSuite_5.0.1.300_OVE also says that my phone isn't supported.
Yes I am talking about that group, the fact that fastboot still shows means all is not lost. Good luck in your endevor to unbricking your device.
Sent from my SNE-LX1 using Tapatalk
I joined the group, but unfortunately no one could help me. Any other suggestions?
edit: for no one could help me read it nobody answered me.
Try the other group, which is dedicated for H9L. The only other way I can think of is to try and flash stock erecovery on the phone and see if you can recover that way.
Sent from my SNE-LX1 using Tapatalk
which one?
how to flash stock erecovery? All fastboot commands gives me FAILED (remote: Command not allowed) error. I tried on both Windows and Linux. adb devices doesn't see the devices, but fastboot devices see.
I would not like to spend money with this, but DC-Unlock software can help me? If yes, I will consider to pay for it.
Best bet is to ask on the group I PM's you.
They are more suitable to helping out.
What command did you use to try and flash erecovery?

S10 got stuck at firmware update.

Hello there, I'm stuck with a situation and I can't fix the phone.
I live in Canada and I bought the phone here (Canadian software version and also unlocked) and gave it to a relative who lives in the USA to use. Recently, she has a firmware update notification from her phone, however, it always gets stuck at 28%, and the download fails. So she plugged the s10 device into her computer and used Smart Switch to download the new firmware. After she finished downloading it, she clicked to install the new firmware on her phone. That's when the problem starts... She got stuck on this screen forever and she even tried to soft reset/restart the phone but it just went back to that screen.
What I think happened was it's a Canadian version phone but the new firmware is the US version and it tried to install and crashed.
Could anyone give me some advice on fixing this problem?

for sure man, i sometimes skip the long winded Odin stuff because ive typed out like 3 paragraphs of Odin instructions and the person i was replying to already knew 75% of what i just typed LOL
aaaaanyways, downloading Odin from a trusted source isnt an issue. Ive downloaded soooo many versions of Odin over the years and from so many different places, i cant imagine an infected Odin. Im sure they exist, but ive never seen one. ive got Odin from here before, and it was fine. Also, yes, youd definitely want to download the canadian version of it. You should be able to flash the U1 version (fully unlocked) so long as you have a snapdragon processor, but youd need whats called "Patched Odin" to do it. The U1 thing is kind of a tangent, but youll find out that there are a TON of rabbit holes you can find yourself in from time to time. The best thing to do is to just flash the FW for the model of phone you own unless you plan on tinkering. sammobile.com/firmwares is where you want to search for the FW and samfirm is an exe youre going to want to use to actually download the FW itself. Samfirm downloads it literally 5x faster.

For the firmware, do I just download the latest one for Canada Version? There are so many links so do I just click on Canada (the one without Provider) and Do i download PDA or CSC or both? My phone is unlocked already btw. Also will i able to flash my phone even though it is currently stuck in the "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH"?
I even tried to you the samfirm to download the firmware but it keeps saying authorization failed after I filled in the blank and clicked update.
Checking firmware for SM-G973W/XAC/G973WVLS4ETK1/G973WOYV4ETK1/SMG973WW12/G973WVLS4ETK1
Error: Could not send BinaryInform. Status code 200/401

yep. sorry, i forgot to mention that part. Zero worry tho, its just a thing caused by the bootloader that your phone was most recently on being too new for the FW youre trying to flash. Thats whats causing the binary error, the binary currently installed is greater than the one youre trying to install so the phone wont physically allow it. Its not even a software thing, it gets hard coded. Anyways, get the most current one and reflash. It wont fail again with the same reason on the newest firmware, but if it does fail, try a different cable, download the file again. it might have corrupted during the download. If youre not using patched Odin, you literally cant screw it up so badly you cant recover it

yep, when flashing the 4 parts of the FW, the home_csc will not wipe your userdata, csc will factory reset. let us know if you run into trouble, but you shouldnt have any issues. it sounds like you got this
Thank you so so much! I fixed the phone and it works now. For future firmware updates, I have to do this every time? Is there any option that i can change my firmware permanently to the US version so that I can get auto-update on the phone instead of using ODIN every time?
