Note 10+ features ported to Note 9 - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi
I wonder if some features of the Note 10+ could be ported to the Note 9
I believe that the features that dont depend on different or addicional hardware could be ported
E.G.
- Double tap to wake on system options (that wont mess up AoD)
- S Pen features such as Handwriting recognition or others (not the gestures part cause they depend on some addiocional hardware on the Note 9 S Pen, and also... they´re just weird *...)
- SuperSteady Video and Night Mode on front camera would be nice but i´m suspecting that those features might require different or addicional hardware
- Samsung DeX on Windows would also be nice to have...
These are a few of the features i would enjoy on my Note 9
What you guys think?
Do you believe that is better to make the upgrade?
Or you agree that some of the new features of the Note 10+ should be updated to the Note 9 from Samsung itself?
What features would you like to use on your Note 9?
RSGI
* - If you dont mind looking like Harry Potter while taking a picture outside... go ahead and upgrade

Have upgraded but I agree, a lot of the newer features are mostly software...
After the hoo-haa of the Note 10 release, probably 3 - 4 months away, the Note 9 should get a few of these features (those not dependent on the new hardware anyway)..
If not, Samsung is guilty of forcing you to upgrade simply for their financial gain.

This is typical of all mobile device manufacturers. As that is the only way the can make a profit. Also all modern electronics are designed to fail within 2 years.

Forcing? Seriously? What an entitled generation! Samsung pays for that software to be developed. You can pay for it too! They aren't forcing you to do anything. Profit is good. It drives innovation.

My old Note 4 N910C is working perfectly as well. However recently I have been having issues getting a decent signal with HK Cell Providers, which is what forced me to upgrade to the Note 8.

I would pay them to use the features on my Note 9.
But I will never buy a phone without headphone jack and a punchout hole.

I'd really like the screen recorder software on the note 10+ to be ported to the note 9!
I recieved my note 10+ yesterday and its really not impressing me. It feels a little off for some reason. Maybe because the power button being on the left side? I can't quite place my distaste for this phone.
I find my fingers getting in the way of the camera quite easily. And the front facing camera, not sure if I'd ever get use to that. Every time I make/recieve a call all I see is that camera about to goto my ear and it feels like my ear is about to be violated by a doctor with a telephoto stethoscope?
Enough of that though! Yes, the screen recorder definitely needs to come to the note 9.

You can get native screen recording with good Lock using the nice shot module.

Isn't it a bit like you would have to buy a new PC every time windows comes with a new feature or something?
Anyway, I can search handwritten notes and also extract text, so I think Note9 already has Handwriting recognition? Maybe it's build in the the Note app itself?

I agree! Neither would I. I'll use a Note9 for as long as possible, and if Samsung doesn't smarten up, this will be my last Samsung. No headphone jack was a retarded Apple idea that Samsung follows like lemmings off a cliff.

Yep. No replaceable battery. No sdcard. But they brought back the sdcard, then brought in the dumb curved edges. Removing the headphone jack goes too far. I won't buy another Samsung if I cannot connect my headphones.

The curved display, while a little annoying, isn't so bad, you can get used to it --- my only huge complaint about it is that it makes cases a nightmare because you can't physically reach the edges of the screen thanks to the design of most cases... (Although arguably if you don't drop the phone you really don't need a case today thanks to the super-hard gorilla glass, I'm just paranoid from so many years of " just look at the phone to hard and it'll get a scratch" --- the one and only feature that flip phones really were a better design)
Also, I think I saw somewhere that one version of the Note 10 actually loses the SD card once again in favor of dual SIMs instead... (though that could be for specific markets where it's more popular like Asia)
I agree on the headphone jack - I actually spend considerable money on good headphones (both my main PC headphones and my phone headset are Sennheiser) because you simply cannot get the same quality from Bluetooth yet (not to mention that is one more device to remember to charge --- though when/if they could get charging as quick as the Spen I'd forgive that, I'd even give up longer listening times if I could just hold the headphones against the back of the device for 30 seconds to get an hour of listening time)
And here's a disturbing thought --- Is the removal of the headphone jack just a step towards removing ALL wired peripheral support? I mean we have wireless charging now, and wireless headphones/headsets, not to mention wireless keyboards/mouse and wireless displays (albeit with slow refresh time and/or high lag) so arguably they could "justify" removing the USB port as well to claim "now it's 100% sealed so it's more waterproof!" while, in reality, making it that much harder to root the phone (and conveniently making wireless peripherals "only work best with Samsung brands" like the Samsung's wireless earbuds)?

Lots of people use wired headphones. And lots of people are not buying devices because they lack a 3m5mm audio jack.
But, Go on and toe the line for device manufactures though, who are simply doing this the cut costs and make waterproof certification easier.

Well it's not like if technology shouldn't advance. I'm not saying the Jack has to go right now, but at some point it will need to. Could you imagine if digital cameras today still required a roll of film to use in some way?
Now instead of buying a roll of film, you buy an sdcard. Instead of buying wires, you buy wireless. Instead of using fax, you can now email.
All advances my friends, all advances. And yes a company has to cut cost because....
Say it with me...

Hey look at it this way though. At least the phone comes with wireless Airbuds that IT can charge. Now that's tech! I can't charge any other damn thing in my house without plugging it in, yet that thing can charge music transporters?!
Think about that for a second...

OEM's put headphone jacks on phones back in the days of the flip phone. Now everyone is just copying Apple becasue it's so trendy. The jack will never be obsolete lol. Sure, IR and a jack connector are “old tech”. The launch date of the tech is not the relevant factor. What matters is whether these technologies remain in installed use. Most PA systems, projectors, TVs, air cons etc installed and in use in hotels, meeting rooms, schools, clubs and so on use these technologies.
So if you want to interface with them, you need those technologies.
I just love it when all these bleeding edge people with their bleeding edge gizmos discover that it takes an old fuddy-duddy with a proper ‘workhorse’ phone to be able to get the projector switched on before business can commence.

How idiodic to compare going from film to SD cards.. a clear improvement, both in terms of speed and reusability.
While on the other hand going from wired headphones with no audio quality loss,no batteries to recharge, and most importantly, NO BATTERIES TO RECHARGE.
Wireless headphones are useless for many people, including those who ride streetbikes and put headphones I. While riding. Good luck getting wireless headphones to fit under a helmet without turning your ears Into Swiss cheese, and hopefully you don't go out for more than 4 hours at a time, otherwise, no music 4 u!
It's not an "advancement". You don't need to remove the headphone jack to have the ability to use wireless headphones.
Say it with me one more time.... The lack of the 3.5mm headphone jack is just a way for companies to cut costs and make waterproof certification easier. It has nothing to do with "technology advancing". It's the same reason that only the note 4 had a IR blaster and then they stopped that. It was an incredibly useful feature that was cut to make more $$$. Samsung is doing it's best to put me on a xaomi or huwaie phone. Currently they seem to be the best phones on the market when you look at features vs price.

Why do I get the idea that neither of you took my post for the sarcasm sections that it had.??? Well it is somewhat difficult to portray over text with giveaways. ?
Well I guess I have to be serious about my post then.
First guy, Dave, cool man, yes those technologies are everywhere, the systems advanced to where they got so that they can be utilized everywhere. Wireless tech is advancing as well. BMW has a car that can be charged wirelessly. Think of all the other tech that could be charged wirelessly in the future. Or what other advancements they can make based off that tech. Wait, why am I even talking about this? None of the TVs in my house have RGB connectors, and they said that's the best visual experience we could get. Now we have wireless 4k.
As for the troll guy, I am starting to think you might be the troll. Or you're just really hotheaded. You started your reply with calling my comparison idiotic. And you want an intelligent response from people? Nowhere in my post did I use inflamatory or disrespectful language, but in this one you'll get the feeling.
The point of my post was to show a logical reason for killing the headphone Jack. I even stated it shouldn't be killed right now, but no, you decided to skip over that first opening slice. I went on to agree with you on the fact that yes, they are doing it to cut cost. Hence "all businesses are in the business of making money!" Cause you know, people like money and companies have people in them. A shareholder's goal is to make as much money as possible so that the company keeps making money. Yes cut costs to save money. Hey look I was still agreeing with you.
You all sound like a bunch of old folks who don't like change. If you don't like the direction a company is going, buy some shares and be on the board of decision makers. If not, don't buy their devices. Or....go make your own.
Things will change with or without you, so either accept it or continue to feel bitter about old tech, yes OLD TECH, I SAID IT!!!
I need to stay off the internet at night. I seem to get into some weird stuff.
By the way, while y'all are *****ing about the 3.5mm headphone jack and missing it oh so much, Flynt Michigan STILL doesn't have clean water fam. STILL!??

REVIEW samDock the Apple to Android converter cable with VIDEO SLIDESHOW!

Today we’re looking at the samDock
Click here to see the original review and you'll also find links to purchase.
The samDock is an adapter cable that let's you use Samsung's latest Android phones like the Note 2 with Apple's 30 pin connector to charge or play audio.
Main advantage: affordable, long length, works by simply plugging it in
Main concern: NONE
Unique features: You can use android devices on Apple docks!!!
I've personally wanted a product like this for years, but it just didn't exist. It seems so simple, there are adapters for everything why not one that adapts Apple's useless proprietary connector to work with the much more universal micro USB standard? The good news is that the wait is over, the bad news is that most people don't care at this point unfortunately. We've seen the wide scale adoption of Bluetooth and things like DLNA, Wifi Direct, and mirrorlink. That means that Apple's stranglehold on the accessory market gets weaker and weaker by the day. For a time, it was the law of the land that all of the coolest docking solutions were Apple exclusive. That's just where the money was, so that's where the effort went.
Nowadays wires are a nuisance and wireless is nearly standard. Bluetooth is everywhere and it's in everything. The great news for those of you that dropped your hard earned money on some sort of Apple capable dock is that this is an extremely affordable solution. If you need to use your Note 2 or most any other Galaxy device with an Apple 30 pin dock it's as simple as plugging this wire in. For some phones that's all it takes and you're done. Others will have to go into your settings and enable Audio Output Mode. You'll just check the box that says, "use external speakers when device is docked.” That's all it takes though. Docks big and small, portable or built in. You'll pass through high quality audio and you even retain the ability to charge your devices.
The cable itself is 24” long, 2 feet is long enough to do plenty without feeling tethered to a dock. It comes in black instead of the apple standard white which is a nice little touch of defiance. It worked with every dock that I tested as well as simply attaching it to an apple charging cable. It will work with the Galaxy S 3 and 4 as well as the Note 1 and 2.
Thank you again to CableJive for supplying their product for review.
Alternatives: none that I've seen
How much: 24.95 each at CableJive.com
Is it worth buying: For under thirty dollars, it's worth buying it to just throw it in your bag on the off chance that you find yourself at a friend's house and you need to arrange some last minute karaoke with an iPod alarm clock.
Click here to see some angles of the cable in a video slideshow

Man, please take this as useful constructive advice. Ditch that music that seems to be your trademark.
It's awful and annoying. 10 seconds in on both of your videos and I'm rushing to close the window.
The product isn't getting seen if I'm closing the window because of the 'cute' music.

agreed! 100%!
Another point, people have invested a lot of money into Apple accessories and can take advantage of using it with android phone. But the whole beauty of apple gadgets was docking integration without any need for cables or devices laying on the side. This solution does work, but you kill the look of the setup by not being able to dock your smartphone.

are you guys talking about the very start of every video? The opening with the choir type voices? That's from an everclear song.
Otherwise, for every product reviewed, I pick a song that has something to do with the product or it's name. It's just a fun little touch. So this is the samDOCK so the song is hickory dickory DOCK, which is a child's nursery rhyme. It's just a goofy little added touch and you can always mute and just look at the pictures if the music is bugging you. I was this close to doing a death metal cover of hickory dickory dock but I couldn't find a clear enough recording.
now that I think of it there were a bit of children's songs, they just fit really well. I reviewed a wireless charging dock the other day and I used the song, "I've got no strings" from Pinocchio. "I've got no strings, to hold me down" no wires, wireless charging, you get it. Just a fun little touch.
They aren't always kids songs.
Lol I really think everyone is giving you a hard time because that zip thing you reviewed was just stupid.
I mean really guys no one is forcing you to watch the slideshow, you can always mute and listen to whatever you want if you want to setethe pictures.

I'm interested at this. Can you still use the remote on Bose sound dock to skip and control volumes?
Sent from my SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Not trying to give you a hard time by any means, it's honestly meant as constructive criticism! I am truthfully trying to be helpful, nothing else! You may not care though, and if what your doing is working for you then I suppose there's no need to change it. I just think your videos would be more professional without some of the music in them, that's all. I did watch many of your YouTube videos! Trying to help out because the more views the better for you. Like the NeatDesk Scanner, that song is just awful! Whether it goes with the product being reviewed or not, I find it very annoying. For the video showing the Otterbox Defender and Seidio Convert cases for the Note 2, I actually really like the song choice! That said though, I still think the video would appear more professional with out the song. Now for the Phillips Hue video, that's a great song choice!! No, not something that I would listen to in my car, but it's like elevator music, simple music with no lyrics. That is very fitting for your videos, and doesn't distract attention from the video whatsoever!! See, I'm not basing this off of what I like or want to hear, just telling you what I think comes off as being more professional. Of course, this is just my opinion. You may not even care what I think or what I have to say. I'm just trying to give you a viewer's perspective, that's all.
Now on to this product! This is something I really need!! My tool chest/box has a CD player and 2 6x9 speakers built in to it! This was one of the selling points to me, not the only one as this tool chest has many unique features not found in any other tool chest, but one of the selling points nonetheless. Coming out of a little slot in the top area of the tool chest/box once the lid has been opened, there is a cable that is tied in to the stereo system in the tool chest. It has an Apple connection on the end of it . Isn't that big of deal, as the CD player also has a 3.5 mm auxiliary jack on it, so I can just use that. I would like to be able to shut the little door that covers the CD player while I'm working though (also has a remote for it), and can't do that with an auxiliary cable sticking out. I do have a 4th Gen iPod Touch 32GB. The remote also allows me to skip songs when it's hooked up through the Apple cable, which is a very nice function!! Obviously the remote can't do anything with my phone, except adjust volume, when it's hooked up through the auxiliary cable. With this adapter/converter you posted here, it would give me the same functionality of my phone as I currently have with my iPod!!
Honestly, using my iPod in the tool chest is basically the only reason I haven't sold it yet! Getting this adapter would be awesome for me! Thank you for taking the time to make this review, and especially for sharing it with this community!! It's greatly appreciated!!

Well,
Got one today and I've now tried 3 docks and it works on none. I've flashed back to stock ROM in case it wasn't compatible with ProBAM.
Not having a bit of it. Money down the drain.

I like to pick out a song that hints to the product in a some way. I don't give hints in the description and sometimes it's harder to figure out why I'd choose a certain song. It's a little side game and people have contacted me saying that it makes them happy to figure it out. I could just find generic background music, but I'm trying to put in a bit more effort than that. Please mute it if it upsets you.
I've seen some adapters similar to this on ebay for cheap. Not sure if they'll allow data(music is the only thing I want) to pass through though. Anyone try one of the adaptors from ebay or similar? Less than $10, so they're super cheap, but even still I don't wanna through ANY money at them if they'll only charge...

Hi
I'm thinking about creating something along the lines of Grace Digital GDI GSD8200 - in my option would be - (Bose sounddock => cablejive /samDock/ => iGRIP Universal Micro USB Charging Dock ) - mounted on the top of my Bose and use it for my Samsung Galaxy phone
My question is - if micro usb plug from samDock will work with the iGRIP charging dock ? (charging and sound signal) or any micro usb charging dock

Or any charging docs ?

New Joying HU with surround digital amplifier

Does anyone have new Joying HU with surround digital amplifier? Has the sound quality improved?

They just came out. I posted in your other thread. I have one coming tomorrow. It may be some time before you get any real feedback since they are new. Looks promising, but we learn not to get our hopes up too much.

that's cool, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the new unit
For reference:

Others should buy this so I have safety in numbers
I wouldn't expect greatness from an amp in units like this. Any good HUs that have optical out? That is probably the safest choice to get good sound out of these units.

Anyone seen an android unit with toslink? For what its worth method of transport has no relation to sound quality. They solve different needs. Transport is like a road. It can be smooth or bumpy, but has nothing to do with the car you drive over it. You can send crap over a toslink and the head unit would have to convert lower grade data to PCM.

Yes, you are correct but it is important to note how these units are built. Toslink removes the need for DAC which is the weak link. Basically, the unit reads digital media and sends digital signal to something else which has its own DAC. Decoding and sending digital signals in these HUs is done with off the shelf chipssets that either work or don't. It is binary. A cheap DAC adds a lot of artifacts and general noise to the signal. So, the reality is, a cheap HU that does toslink can yield good sound. A cheap HU with a DAC will not, because economics won't allow it. That is why I asked. To use your analogy, what is better, a smooth road paved with no seams and expansion joints or one that was paved piece meal with connectors and detours? Hope that makes sense.

Many head units that have toslink really only had it for the CD or DVD and didn't convert radio or aux etc. A few units exist that do the conversion, but its pretty slim. I really don't think anyone has the expectation that for 300 bucks you are getting something amazing. You probably do get something incrementally better than the basic stuff we have been seeing.
Discussing toslink on these units is definitely an armchair topic and pretty far from realistic even if logically is makes sense.
i am really considering that 10.1 inch Joying, it would be my third Joying, so I have a good method of comparison
Well if its like the previous Joying units you can expect about one in 3 units to fully function out of the box and that one to fail within 90 days. Cheap chinese low quality junk with no warranty support.
Second, it does not belong in this forum. Has NOTHING to do with android auto. Off topic.

Do it! I need safety in numbers. I have a few others to compare that are still running.
I popped it open. I actually don't think the back is any sort of serious heatsink. The digital amp is screwed to it, but there is a gap. Video out is cables alongside the left rear usb. I'm not sure what the empty socket is between the mic and the video out. There is nothing identifying on the silver box.
I probably wont get to bench testing it until the weekend or next week.

Thanks for tearing into one of these... I've been really curious if that fancy looking back panel was actually a functional heatsink or not. Curious how you rank the sound quality and "no heat problem" this unit is supposed to be advertised for... Look forward to the rest of your review/testing!
I am very interested to see if there is a noticeable sound difference
My Joying died and I put in a Sony until I figure out my next move.
I was genuinely shocked at the sound improvement. And I always thought my Joying sounded great, but my speakers have come alive with the Sony
i got the 10 inch single din with an amp and DSP. I got it installed last night. only had a short drive to test it, but I think it sounds pretty great

Did you get a model number on that? I had to have several emails with joying describing what I wanted with a single din and 10.1 screen. They told me to buy a certain one and then add 40 bucks and they would know what to send. Seemed weird. Just wonder if that's what you did also.

Not yet, mine was a replacement for my 8 inch that quit working. I emailed them asking for a specific model number so I can post it in my review
Joying now makes it clear on their site:
Note: JOYING car stereo with internal digital amplifier only can fit the car which without internal amplifier and external amplifier.

I assume this is because there appears to be a lack of rear pre-outs, but I'm not totally clear. I did see that if you enable an external amp the controls are reverted to the old interface.
So I have had my new 10 inch unit for about 2 days, and it works great. *Bluetooth doesn't drop out, sounds awesome. *
today and only today, I was listening to music loudly, and I noticed it would drop out a bit. *I thought it was odd and looked at the screen, and I got this flash with yellow on top and some Chinese writing:
I did a reboot and it started working fine again
Right on, thanks for posting your experiences with this unit... I decided to buy an Xtrons 10.1 octacore unit because it was around $100 cheaper than the Joying with the digital amp... Heard a number of complaints about wireless sucking and stuff so I'm eyeing the Joying as a backup if the Xtrons unit goes bad or I discover some sort of weird issue. I gotta admit, I have not encountered any problems with it thus far so hopefully I won't be needing to swap it for the Joying, but its good to know it generally works pretty good (and sounds good) ... One note about the Xtrons unit, is yes the wireless does kinda suck if I'm trying to use my home wireless from the driveway, however its rock solid and fast when I'm using my phone as a hotspot, which is how it will be used 99% of the time, so I'm pretty stoked thats not an issue!
Anyways, thanks again for the info guys!

No 3.5 Audio Jack in Next Iteration of Samsung Galaxy Line

Already rumors circulating that the 3.5 audio jack will be eliminated on the next iteration of Samsung Galaxy phones. That's too bad. Basically a deal breaker for me as I will not purchase any phone with a notch or missing a 3.5 audio jack, (and I would argue one with a quality DAC attached).
Looks like next time that I'm looking to replace my phone, it will be with a much cheaper Chinese phone and that I'll be using the money left towards a dedicated DAP from here on out.
Oh well...
It's idiotic to believe such rumours so early on when the don't even have a single reputable photo of the phone
they have said that since s6 and here we are

Well, when every other manufacturer except LG is doing it, I could imagine Samsung doing it, too. Also they already presented their AKG bluetooth lineup. It would make sense moneywise to kill the jack, so they can sell those better...
I hope not, if they stay with it, they'll get all the headphone jack people on their side. Even right now, I only switched to Samsung because they're the last remaining headphone jack phones with a community.
I'd love to go LG, but there are just no ROMs, kernels or other mods at all.

Just because it's more comfortable to wear doesn't mean it's better in general.
Quality is worse, not just because of codecs, but also because there are actually no good wireless headphones out there.
Yes, I can convert my IEMs to wireless, but then I'm still stuck with just AptX, because there are no "wireless cable" options for LDAC / AptX-HD, except I'm gong with a bluetooth DAC - Which would be even less comfortable than the normal cable in the first place.
I don't even start how unstable LDAC and AptX-HD are.
Just because you find it ok, doesn't mean it's indeed ok to remove the headphone jacks. At least until we get a proper replacement tech where we don't sacrifice anything.

It is not ok (discussion of the future)

I'm sad to see that people are accepting the death of the headphone jack. We (humans) create tech therefore is tech that should adapt to us, not us to tech. I'm actually disappointed to see how xda gave this phone "the best phone award". Companies are toying with us and as a oneplus fan I'm really sad to see them continue this despite the complaints of many over the 6T. I just just bought a 5T myself because of this (6 has a notch so went for the 5t). I fear that in the future there will be no option for those who want a headphone jack. And even worse, no charging port.
To me the next logical step in this crazy trend is to get rid of the usb-c port. And seeing how well people are accepting the removal of the headphone jack I fear they will have no trouble in doing so.
And yes I get it the jack is quite big and limits screen size. But let's face it, it is really annoying to tap the edges of the screen by accident, which gets worse with these bezel-less phones, so please don't try to convince me.
I wanted to create a poll but I don't see an option on the app, so I will just ask these questions. Let me know what you think.
Aren't you worried that the next models will ship with wireless charging only?
Is that what we will see in the future?
Would OP join this crazy trend?
PS: I'm posting on the OP forum since what I wanna discuss here is what will happen in the future and what do you guys think OP will do about it.
Technology is changing, rapidly and over and over again - part of this change is the move from wired headphones to wireless ones, another one is the trend to curved displays (which I don't crave), the omission of notification LEDs and probably also the trend towards wireless charging (which I actually find convenient).... I doubt it'll leave out the USB port because you would neither get an option to transfer data via OTG nor would be able to recover the phone when something is broken - but who knows
IMO Oneplus is following where the market is going. We could hope and argue that it could very well be the other way round, but the volume is not with us few tech enthusiasts but with the broad masses and the trendsetter presently is not Oneplus (which I would wish to be otherwise)....
You do realize the OnePlus 6 has a headphone jack right?
Phones without ports are the future. Within a few years you can powercharge your phone wirelessly. Would be better for all of us. And btw invest in a good pair of wireless headphones mk3 sony are very very very good.
for music - use audio players like astell kern, fiio etc. Its just a talk about your money, if you can afford it. But. About bezelless screens, its all very disapointing. Personally, i'd like to back to 16:9 screens, like 5 and 3t was. Oneplus is no more phones for geeks, its for beauty bloggers, HA

But it did adapt to us. We humans (not me specifically until this phone) bought these phones without a headphone jack for 2 years. Didn't touch sales numbers. So the market adapted, one less hole to waterproof, and room to save costs on circuit noise reduction, integrated DAC+AMPs etc.

Sorry a typo.
Didn't get the 7/6t for the jack. Didn't even considered the 6 because of the notch (considering the 5t is just one step below the 6 i'd rather not have a notch).

Wow just noticed the led thing. So glad I still have it.
Considering the new trend of not repairing broken stuff (ehem apple ehem) I worry that could extend to the rest of the market and end up killing the usb. But good point.
Your last point is very valid. But what I always liked about oneplus is that they didn't follow most trends. Instead they relied on community feedback (ofc ppl in forums is mostly geeks). Don't get me wrong. As a company that is probably the right strategy. I just wish they had like a second phone for us fans of the opo.

I personally have used wireless bt headphones and now true wireless earbuds Jabra elite are amazing for years. Who wants cords when working out for starters. Second I don't understand the outrage over not having a headphone Jack. You spend 7-800 on bleeding edge tech but want to use wired headphones? Backwards to me. And honestly get used to it. It's not going away. Wireless everything. For me it's cloud, bt, wireless charging, casting, nfc file transfers etc....

I've tried bt headphones but they are a pain in my opinion. You have to charge them and sound quality is not as good. Tho I must say that in the car the 5T does seem to have better quality than the 3T over bluetooth but still can hear it struggle.

Hahah true. But also there have been improvements on battery tech. It's just that there have been no big changes. The main problem is that to store more energy you basically need to start looking at more exotic materials that at the same time are more dangerous to handle.

Never have had an issue. My Sony over the ear wireless sound amazing. My Jabra sound quality is amazing as well and I have to charge the case once every two weeks. I mean we are living in a world where we have to charge our laptops and tablets and phones...don't think having to charge headphones is a deal breaker. Now again it's about preference. I'm good w not having a headphone Jack. Didn't use it when I had a phone that did. To each is own.

You don't see us using vinyl records, feather with ink, or a wired telephone connection today do we? So, stop yapping about things you don't like, if you don't like change, then go back to your Nokia 3310. I have tried bluetooth headphones... Don't like them. They are heavy and need recharging. And batteries go bad with time.
It's hard to beat the comfort of a headphone that weighs half as much.
And yes many ppl use vinyl just so you know....
This trend took off thanks to apple fanboys.
What good things do we get by trading in the headphone jack?
Larger screens with notches? Or maybe popup cameras that will fail in a couple years?
It's not like they are trying to get the phones smaller...
About tastes there is nothing written and it is very difficult to please everyone equally.
Before they removed the Jack 3.5, I no longer used it, so I do not care.
For the usb-c to charge and sound, it would bother me a lot to remove it, because I do not like to lose the possibility of having cable sound input even for the C and even less be forced to have another device to charge? And I'm home? I think that is not possible ....
I do not like the drop noch either, but I prefer it to frames ... and the worst is the curve edge! Please! What is it for? To play reflexes ??? To lose screen? Life is curved? Yes, of course, when I play football when I get to the line, the ball falls into the void suddenly ... yuck! regards

I do miss the headphone jack, but only because I have some really nice wired headphones that I would like to connect to my phone on the odd occasion because that's where all my music is. Saying that, 99% of the time I'm using my Jabra Elites. If needed, I can get a music player as a separate device to get my audio nerd on, whilst I admit I would rather have one device. But I'm not shlopping around a big set of headphones around with me all the time. That's not going to happen. Nowadays any decent set of wireless IEM's compete well with wired IEM's. I don't think they will get rid of ports altogether, just because what happens when it bricks. You always have to be able to physically connect up.
If you want to use wired headphones with your phpne, the OnePlus usbc dongle sounds about the same as the phpnes with the 3.5mm port. If you want true fidelity, you should try the digital audio players that was mentioned in a reply above. If you really want good quality playbacknon yoir phone, the only options are true USB-C DAC/AMP or bluetooth receivers like Fiio Q5S

I think you are being too harsh. You may not realize but Vinyls quality of sound beats CD quality any day. When was the last time you had the luxury of listening to a clean vinyl? Ok, enough about the vinyls. I think what OP is trying to say is limiting the choices. I personally, would not care if phone does not have a phone jack as long as there is a similar model with a jack option. When you buy a car, besides many other available options available under different package and price points, you STILL have an option to buy stick or automatic transmission. Some of the innovation being made under the banner of "technology and advancement" is simply a marketing hype. Smartphone sales are way down if you look at any year to year data, so manufactures have to market the latest and greatest technology whether you need it or not.
So OP is not talking about trash, you need to be open-minded and think outside the narrow box. Here is a quote from Steven Spielberg:
Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we're too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone.

To be honest I could live with a phone with 2 usb-c. Just buy... 5 adapters and use some heatshrink to secure them.
As I'm writing this I'm using both the usb and the jack on my phone.
That wouldn't be too crazy would it?

While I mean no offense to you, I think people who trash talk phones without headphone jacks just want something to complain about. The headphone jack isn't gone. Just use an adapter. There's your headphone jack as an option if you so desperately need it.
Sure, it's a half an inch long cord, but there's the absolutely perfect solution to your problem.
I know you're going to reply to this by saying "But it's so inconvenient! It would be so much more convenient if it was built in! I'll lose the cable!",
You can either use an adapter, hook it onto the end of your wired headphones so you don't lose it, or you can not have a headphone jack at all, and make posts on an anonymous Internet forum about how disappointed you are.
Technology nowadays is extremely powerful, and it's honestly a pretty amazing marvel of engineering and skill. A little lightweight rectangle that can access the biggest archive of information known to man, and you just kind of gripe about some port that you can reattach if you really wanted to? Or the size of a screen? If the screen is too big, get a smaller screen!
I really do apologise if this comes off as rude, but it seems really really trivial to me. The tech world can't cater to your every whim, and if you really want it to that bad, get a phone with a headphone jack and a smaller screen.
To me, your post just gives off a really, entitled sort of vibe. Again, no offense meant towards you.

[Discussion] 7 Pro - Features it's missing and why they don't matter

I've read a few articles or discussions bringing up feature that the 7 pro lacks, often times mentioning that individual items by themselves are deal breakers or several together might lead someone not to buy it.
Here are some of the ones I've seen the most, and why they really aren't a big deal
No 5G - 5G is still in its very early days and won't see widespread adoption for several more years. If you're not in one of the top 10 cities, don't be surprised if it you don't see it before the 7 pro's hardware is obsolete anyways. With all the new 5G phones coming out soon, the number of people that upgrade to them will skyrocket and likely over-saturate the available 5G networks, bogging down the purported speed benefits. Further, 4G LTE hits more than adequate speeds anyways. 99% of what anyone does on the internet isn't going to require more than 10Mbps connections. Some video streaming might require more than that, but I've seen 4G tests hit nearly 100Mbps (consistent, not spike speeds), so it is more than capable of handling what people throw at it. Cellular providers limit video streaming in most cases to 720p resolutions anyway.
Even the advertised latency improvements aren't a big deal. The only area where super low latency makes a significant difference is online gaming, and 4G already hits sub-50ms latency. I've personally played FPS games with a latency anywhere from 100ms - 2000ms (<- not a typo) many many times before, and rarely noticed even 200ms negatively affecting my game.
No WiFi 6 - Again, a young technology which won't see widespread adoption for several more years (many public wifi spots don't even have AC yet), and promises unnecessary speed improvements. 4K content can be easily streamed through a wireless N router with no buffering.
No wireless charging - This may be more of a preference, but the way I see it, wireless charging limits you in exchange for essentially no benefits. You can't move your device around while it's on the charging mat, unless you also pick the mat up with it and hold them together; plus, it's slow. Plug in your phone and you can easily pick it up and continue to use it while it's charging. One of the big "benefits" to wireless charging that gets touted around a lot is "removing the hassle of plugging in". Well, the charging mat still needs to be plugged in, and plugging a cable into your phone takes literally one second. With the battery life phones are advertising these days you almost never have to plug in before going to bed anyways. Seriously, what is the point of wireless charging?
No IP rating - Oneplus has done a great job of waterproofing the phone already, and adding an "official IP rating" doesn't magically improve its existing water resistance. There are several water videos on youtube already, with one going as long as 30 (broken up) minutes in a water bowl. Another shows that 2 days after their test the phone is still working fine. TBF, there is one video which shows the phone gets water inside it after a period of time, but that is at a depth of 1.5m (approx 5ft), and water pressure increases with depth (ie water works harder to get in the deeper it is). Throw the most water proofed phone into the bottom of the ocean and I guarantee it will get flooded. The companies that do provide an IP rating for their phones don't cover water or dust damage anyways. Outside of walking in the rain most people will be keeping their phones dry, so this really is not a big deal in the least.
No 3.5mm jack - OK maybe I lied just a tad in my title, as this is kind of a big deal since there aren't any good alternatives yet.
No SD Card slot - The storage options available for the phone are already pretty good. With most media consumption now being streaming, high storage capacities don't seem quite as important (I don't need to tote around my 50GB+ music collection, I can stream off YT, Spotify, even set up a home streaming server), and there are several good cloud storage options available (mega for one gets you up to 50GB for free).
Well, that about sums up this post. Obviously a large part of choosing which phone to buy is preference and subjective, but I think that at least these complaints against the phone are virtually unfounded (with the exception of the headphone jack of course )
I pretty much agree, the only convenience of wireless charging is that different phone types can use the same charger for example Samsung and an iphone can wirelessly charge on the same pad with no need for specific cables.

There are adapters available which will allow you to charge and use headphones at the same time. https://www.amazon.com/Charging-Ada...way&sprefix=usb-c+charge+audio,aps,137&sr=8-1
It's a great phone, the first OP phone I have ever owned. I've always used Iphone and Samsung S/Note series before. But to me the camera is very important in a phone since I take a lot of pictures and even though I tried to make the pictures better with GCam and upgraded to latest OOS, I still think the camera is weak compared to the "flagships". Maybe the camera will improve one the next device but if it doesn't I plan to switch back to Samsung.
Can we expect to see the a 7T pro model with some of these features?
Or will the "T" model be the 7 Pro 5G with no other new features except 5G technology?
I'd love to have pocket mode back. Too many times it has become unlocked in my pocket for unknown reasons.

Personally, I am in the "don't want to have to mess around with dongles" camp. One of the huge pluses to the 3.5mm Jack is it just works. I've read a few reviews of various dongles that say they don't work with certain phones. Compatibility was never a problem with the 3.5mm

I haven't really followed OP in the past so I'm not sure what kind of improvements/changes they typically make for their T model, but I had been under the impression that the 5G would be a separate model from the T
No Wireless Charging: I feel like no wireless charging on a glassbacked device is a big FU, No reason to drop metal unibody for weaker glass only to cut costs and raise profit margins the same reason no wireless charging included, "The whole it's slow" is a bs excuse, Xiaomi proved that with 20w wireless charging on the Mi 9.
No 3.5mm Jack: Why remove the universal audio port??? Again no reason, No alternatives only to push there crappy accessories. Why should we be forced to re buy headphone etc when our current headphones work fine? Also to touch on the charging point now as we have no headphone jack we have 2x the wear on the Type C port so wireless charging could of helped with that to migrate the wear and improve longevity.
No SD Card Slot: Again no reason to not include a dual SIM + Micro SD, Another reason to get you to buy higher priced UFS storage instead just like Apple does it. Other devices had no problem including a hybrid dual SIM.
I'll add another of my own
No 3.5mm Jack adapter: How can you remove the headphone port and then make you pay $12.95 for an adapter which is only passive so they cost nothing to make you can buy them from China for like 30 cent each. So think the cost to make it it's nothing to them yet they can't give us one in the box...
All bull**** just to cut costs and make the end user pay more ez marketing. We are getting less for more money.
Sd card not needed due to fast ufs storage 3.0. headphone jack - time to move on. . 5g and wiFi 6 . It sounds nice to have now just to feel a false sense of future proofing . But by the time these speeds become useful the rest of this phone will be outdated and most people would of moved on to the OnePlus 10pro. I started a whole thread about the disadvantages of the OnePlus 7 pro and th conclusion from everybody is that this phone offers everything somebody needs now and as a bonus at a fantastic price and for a very long time.
I find two very important items missing in the One Plus 7 pro
1) Notification Light
2) Sounds -> Vibrate on Tap

Why do you feel it's time to move on from the headphone jack? You can get incredible sounding audio from it, it's royalty free (maybe USB-c is too? idk), any connector made to fit into the jack will just work, and no need for dongles or adapters. I've seen reviews on many usb-c headphones that they don't work with or aren't fully compatible with various devices
I agree with the other points though

To me the wireless charging falls under the "bells and whistles" category; completely unnecessary, but convenient in specific instances. Your phone is still "tethered" to a specific spot; even more so than plugging in because you can't even pick the phone up or charging stops. Maybe it is becoming faster, but what I had read online indicated it was slower than wired charging.
I agree with the audio port issues. Very upsetting they removed it, and couldn't even include an adapter!
At first I thought it was just a blind copy of what apple did (far too much of that going on I think; from the headphone jack, display notch {I personally prefer full-on bezels over any type of notch/cut out/hole punch}, overall design trends {a lot of phones might be mistaken for iPhone at a quick glance these days}), but now I think it's just a money grab
SD cards I think are far less necessary these days with the increased storage capacity of the phones
BTW I like your profile image ? lol
missing fm radio/headphone jack. yes lots of people still love radio... and it's free!
notification led. could have included it.
a macro lens instead of telephoto. besides it's not very good, nor is it 3x.
a red color. like the blue, that would have been badass!
LOVE the popup camera. no more spying!
ability to remap vibrate/silent slider. kinda redundant

Red would be cool. I'm surprised they didn't make one!
Have there been any cases of apps using the front camera to spy on people? I hadn't heard of anything like that happening
for headphone jack, try a Bluetooth DAC such as Fiio's btr series. It is very likely better audio quality plus you dont have to tangle the wire since the dac is small and you can just clip it on your clothes somewhere.
I have btr3 and its awesome. All Bluetooth codec supported and sounds great. There are cheaoer options and they are good too.

You nailed it for the pop up camera. I was looking forward to under display camera but not anymore now that you put it this way. I would be sad to see it go for this reason. I would pay extra to have it on the next gen phone.
That pop up camera is so cool
