Attempt to unbrick Axon M with provided Firehose and Firmware files. - ZTE Axon M Questions & Answers

As stated above, I am trying to unbrick my Axon M with the firehose provided by Unjustified Dev. and firmware from deadman96385. When I tried using QFIL, even placing everything in its own directory on the root of the PC with no spaces in file names, it would get stuck when flashing. And whenever I tried to use MiFlash, I would get the error:"couldn't find flash script" when I selected the firmware folder. Any help is much appreciated.

Just to make sure, When I mentioned to use his firehose, I meant download the other firehose files but then use his firehose as the programmer, did you do that?
edit: I used the edl 37 firmware and the firehose from unjustified, edited the program to remove entire userdata section, renamed unjustified's twrp to recovery.img, edited the boot.img to remove secure boot and used those instead of stock and finally used qfil to flash, I had no errors. but i also used a good cable. Besides the boot and recovery edit, you should be ok as long as the rest was done.

I'm confused, I am using Deadmans b37 firmware, and Unjustified's firehose. I removed the entire userdata line from rawprogram0, and used that with the accompanying patch xml file with QFIL. I don't know how to alter boot.img, and where would I place the edited "recovery.img" file? I am using a good USB cable as well.

Ignore the img edits, that's what I did but its not necessary. Are you running qfil as admin? Is the directory simple, no spaces or symbols? What is the latest error you are getting?

Hello.
Can you share your patched boot image, please? Perhaps, after the removal of secure boot, it will be possible to patch the boot image with Magisk (in working Android), and then flash it with TWRP or QFIL, thus obtaining root?

I did run qfil as admin. These pictures will show the directory: https://imgur.com/M2TdriT https://imgur.com/BmwyeMa
I did not encounter error, it just gets stuck as shown above.

Bam. Let me know how it goes, wasn't gonna mess with root until I finished getting a fully working 8.1 AOSP done. After that, I'm gonna try getting this bad boy all the way to android 10.

rename that folder, that name is way too long. Name it z999update37 or something short and sweat like I did and see if that helps, you can also see if it was a bad download by trying a new one. it just seems to be getting stuck on the emmc portion. Like someone else said in the other thread, make sure the config of qfil is for emmc and that not really anything is selected.
edit: I attached my emmc file, try using it in your folder to see if thats the issue

So, few things. After following all of Undead's installation steps (minus using QFIL), and the steps that I listed at the start of this post, I used the miflash from the axon 7 tutorial page here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/edl-emergency-dl-mode-twrp-unlock-t3553514
For some reason any other Miflash would give the previously stated error. I then installed the ZTE Android drivers provided. And using deadman's B37, Miflash worked like a charm!

Hello.
I flashed B37 with your boot image & TWRP successfully (using MiFlash; QFIL stopped at the same emmc_appsboot file). Except for "TV Mode setup" that was blocking the normal startup, everything went smooth. However, when I attempted to flash Magisk-patched boot image using TWRP, the phone refused to boot, so I had to re-flash an original boot.img. I guess, root access will be a bit more complicated since the bootloader appears to be locked indeed...
Can you sign the rooted boot image with the same keys as the rest of the b37 firmware? Perhaps, then it will work?
Best regards,
Draco.

Right now I'm focused on building the aosp instead of editing the current setup more than have. You can use the android image kitchen to unpack the imgs and edit them. I just used notepad to do my edits.

Can you, please, look into this problem and help us obtain root? It is absolutely necessary for this phone outside of US, right now it's just a small tablet Building AOSP is great, but until it's ready, until it supports dualscreen & e.t.c. - there could be weeks or even months... You edited boot image, and this edited boot worked with locked bootloader - witch means, that it is still signed with OEM keys. Please, do this once more with Magisk-patched rooted image.
Thanks in advance,
WBR - Draco

Thanks! Unfortunately, this boot does't work, the phone repeatedly boots into recovery (just like a regular boot image after being patched with Magisk). But thank you for your time anyway, with respect - Draco.

Doing the unpatched boot with security removed works, so this must be something that is in a subsection of boot.img other than build.prop. I'll have to look at what magisk changes, see what other locks ZTE has inside the image, and go from there.
edit: at this point, this conversation is not related to the post. If I make a breakthrough then I will make a new thread.

Hello, thanks for all people, who have written this thread! I bought an Axon M which was bricked. I tried QFIL with the B30 ATT firmware, but it didn't worked. Than, as already mentioned, i have to remove the userdata line from rawprogram , use the firehose from Unjustified Dev from and with MiFlash it worked without any problems. I had problems with getting into the qdloader mode, but i tried several combinations with Power and Volume Buttons, until i got into the qdloader mode.

Hi all
I need Loader please for this AT&T Z999 model
the one I found in this publication did not work for me : https : // forum.xda-developers.com/axon-m/how-to/rom-zte-axon-m-stock-firmware-firehose-t3909847

I just wish this method would work to update the AT&T Axon M from B30 to B37.

Are you able to provide the firehose that you used?
I tried the B37 and the firehost from this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-zte-axon-m-stock-firmware-firehose.3909847/
along with the miflash from this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/edl-a2017-a2017u-emergency-dl-mode-twrp-unlock-upgrade.3553514/
But it always fails.
It will simply give an error of "Cannot receive hello packet"
then it will eventually go to the error of
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I am using an AT&T Z999 that is on B30, and I am trying to get it updated to B37 (currently not looking to root or anything else, just want to update without having to have active AT&T service.
Edit: I think I found the right one. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-unofficial-twrp-recovery-for-axon-m.3959314/
So far, copying that firehose file into the B37 folder seems to be allowing it to flash.

[Q] WW 10.26.1.7 firmware zip

Hi there,
I've been searching around to find a specific firmware zip for my new tablet, the SKU: WW, Version: 10.26.1.7.
It appears that asus has pulled this file and was wondering if anyone still has this file available somehow.
I soft-bricked my tablet and am not capable of flashing any other (earlier) firmware zip.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,

I can, but it always ends up with some kind of error.
I basically tried following the steps you did:
schmeggy929 said:
i downloaded the asus firmware for 10.14.1.47. extract zip and you get a user.zip. extracted the boot.img. I fastboot erase boot, system, format system, data and cache(as you did)
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash boot boot.img then
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob then
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system UL-K00C-US-10.14.1.47-user.zip
rebooted back into fastboot and bootloader showed 10.14.1.47 version.

But on when trying to flash the ***-user.zip, I get this error message:

you are going to get that along with a few more errors. Wait until it is done. It will take like 10 mins and finish.
when it is done reboot in bootloader and you should see the version change.

did you make any backup with cwm recovery?
try this:
unpack blob from 47 update
Code:
fastboot flash staging blob
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
load recovery, restore your backup
if you have not made any backup with cwm recovery, tell me.
btw fastboot flash system... is not needed here

I have not made a backup using cwm because there was no CWM available for my version.
My tablet was already updated to 4.3 and I (apparently) could not boot the cwm in the development section.
If I would be able to flash a usable recovery, I wouldn't be in this situation anyway as the asus update (.47) is flashable (found an updater-script in the zip).

Nvflash is inaccessible at the moment, it requires some preparation (you have to prepare it BEFORE you brick it)
Anyway, basically, I bought the tablet a few hours earlier.
Wanted to root it to remove some bloatware and restore some titanium backup thingies.
So I unlocked, rooted, basic stuff.
Went into TB, removed bloatware such as Amazon Kindle and some other irrelevant titles.
That action however, somehow caused it to be unbootable.
So I went into some basic repair stuff, as usual.
Tried to flash a recovery, only to find out, there is no working recovery. Only CWM, which required an earlier version of my bootloader.
So, what next. Restore stock? Downloaded the firmware, found out it was the earlier version of my device, because Asus removed the 4.3-EU version from their website.
So, I downloaded the .47-EU version, opened it. Saw there were no images, merely plain files meant for /system and an updater-script.
I ended up attempting to package my own system.img after that. Created an ext4 image on my computer, moved the files there. Followed the instructions in updater-script, which were mostly symlinks and stuff.
In the end of the updater-script they flashed blob to /staging and boot.img to /boot.
So, I flashed my custom system.img to /system.
Flashed boot
Flashed the blob
And beyond that point, I ended up in a bootloop of my bootloader. I could not hold down volume to enter fastboot or anything. All I could do was watch the asus logo as it constantly rebooted. (And ofcourse, no way to turn it off other than waiting for the battery to die)

Since you are unlocked, you can try to flash the recovery (extract it first) of the US version 1.7, should be the same as wwe. Or just even try to flash the whole us update manually. And later change back to the wwe version when it comes available. The 47 update was only a minor ota for 4.2 so no image of recovery or bootloader there.
Sad story. What would have been the safe thing to do, if others wish to root their devices?

I still had the original recovery flashed, I never overwrote it actually. I needed a custom recovery (such as CWM, TWRP).
Flashing an US update is not possible alltogether, there are some minor differences with hardware compitability and such.
Problem is, I could've downloaded the .47 update, but I had already updated to 4.3 (BL 10.26.1.7)

I don't know if it isn't possible. On the TF700 it was only a line in the build.prop file that made the difference.
I would try it because now you have nothing and when it works you have the us version yes, but at least it works.

Well I meant, what should a root user do to try and protect themselves against bricking their device like you did? Is it a matter of making sure that CWM or TWRP is on the device as a recovery partition? And are those available on TF701T yet?
Oh dear. That's a lot gone wrong.
Cwm is available and that works.
It's made by drgravy. I use it in my unbrick tut.
All i can say is, root --> cwm --> backup.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app

Install Motorola Device Manager from Moto's website. That will give you the drivers you need.
My advice is don't use RSDlite. To get it to work, you have to edit the xml file in the firmware that you're trying to flash to remove all the other devices that it inexplicably also includes. All RSDlite does is automate the fastboot flashing process. A better way to do it, in my opinion, is to edit the .bat file that comes with the factory images and manually input the fastboot commands that you see there. If you want more detailed directions, see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/help/turbo-firmware-t3254185

I mean right click on the .bat file that is included in the .zip file of the firmware that you're trying to flash and select "edit." This allows you to see the commands that the .bat file does when you double click on it.
But you don't have to worry about that, because I already outlined the necessary commands in the post that I gave you a link to.

any idea why fastboot doesnt see my device now? it did before, but I get the yellow triangle in device manager. OK, so i finally got fastboot to recognize my device again. Trying to download stock firmware from Rootjunky. Am i correct that I extract the zip into the fastboot folder then issue the commands? I am about to pull my hair out...

Yep. That should be all you have to do.

Manually patch boot.img for systemless root?

I have a rare phone running Android 6.0 on a MT6750 with an unlocked bootloader (might be MT6750T since it is 1920x1080, but the only things I have found say MT6750)
I have been unable to get TWRP working on this phone after trying several porting guides and TWRP images. Almost all port attempts result in the boot image (logo.bin - android logo), followed by a black screen for a few seconds, then it reboots into Android.
Is it possible to manually patch the boot.img to gain root? If so, can someone point me to a guide for it? I found https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/systemless-root-mediatek-t3309909 but PATH doesnt seem to be set anywhere in my boot image (grep -nrw 'boot.img-ramdisk' -e "PATH"). I tried adding "export PATH $PATH:/data/bin" or "export PATH /sbin:/vendor/bin:/system/sbin:/system/bin:/system/xbin::/data/bin" to init.environ.rc with other exports, but I get a boot loop
try recompile the decompiled boot.img without doing any changes and flash the compiled boot.img to see that there is no problem with respect to compilation of boot.img

Then its a compilation error. Its not being compiled correctly.
Btw, systemless root by supersu and magisk do a lot things like starting sudaemon, injecting supolicy changes, mounting su.img, etc. Its better to port a custom recovery and let supersu or magisk zip do all the required things to root your device.
Or if you want to be ambitious, dirty your hands with hackings, unzip these zip files and try to implement manually what is programmed there.
My suggestion is go for porting recovery from devices matching your device specs ( need not be 100%). There are several threads on this forum helping you out on this. I think chances of porting a workable custom recovery are brighter than manually compiling su compatible boot.img.
There's the problem..
I did port custom recovery.
But when I flash it back to device it's showin error.
I understand that I need to dirt my hands more to get root my device
So I decided to compile revovery.. But oppO f3 source files r not available. I tried with omni Tom source. But it failed

You said that even the imgs just compiled without any changes made to decompiled files are not able to boot. Then there must be something wrong with compiling. Your tools for compiling may not be correctly working.
There are carlive image kitchen tools. get them here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/tool-cika-carliv-image-kitchen-android-t3013658. They are known for flawless working.
What is more important now is that you have right tools for compiling imgs. Then you can think of further.

no need. carliv tools are perfect. stick with them.
are you able to successfully flash imgs with sp flash tools? no matter whether you are able to boot with them.
as for porting, use twrp or any other custom recovery of SoC as yours, mt6750t and of OS version similar to yours as well.

Ok.. I stick with carliv as u suggested. And... Yes... Im able to flash img files to phone but not with sp flash tools. Im using professional tools ( uni tools from volcano) and also flashing using a cracked download tool meant for oppo devices. ( the download tool was created on base of sp flash tools only)
Then...
I just tried twrp porting only ( same soc mt6750t quitel k6000 plus i think.. Which chipset is mt6750t)
Also tried with oppo f1s twrp which chipset is mt6750.. ( not 6750t.. ) both went wrong..
seniors and xda developrs ( zackie& a guy from Indonesia unfortunately i forgot his name) also tried to. Port twrp for me. I also tried flashing their img files ..everything went not well.. There i have understood that either compiling or flashing causing error in my device

As you tried various flashing methods, you might have already known all the related intricasies of flashing. still I just want to mention that I presume you might have then known vcom drivers, creating scatter file with mtkdroid tools, loading scatter file and, most importantly switching off phone and plugging phone to PC just after clicking on flash button in sp flash tool.
And about the other tools of flashing you mentioned, sorry I will not be helpful.
A thing to mention regarding porting is taking care of mount points in fstab file and a similar file if any at /etc folder in ramdisk of decompiled port recovery. mount points should be same as fstab of your boot.img.
Besides, ensure kernel (Imaze) of port recovery is replaced with that of boot.img.

Your not helpfull??.. I don't agree with that. May be im Not in the position to catch your mind.
However.. Im not going to miss single chance to upgrade myself ( yes ofcourse from devs n seniors like u)
As you said
1) i have installed vcom drivers & fetched scatter file. ( again not from mtk droid tools) . I heard mtkdroid tools nOt fully supporting mt67xx Series. Even i tried modified mtkdroid tools developed by dev havoc.. And droid tool showed some info like cpu info.. Etc. But right hand side there was an error which saying that its usable to fetch info. . I presume the error may b causing by oppo. Own OS ( Color OS based on android 6.0).. And my last try was 2 months ago. So i dont know if there is any improvements in droid tools or not. Please privide me links if they updated/ supported 67xx series
2)yes i agree with mount points you mentioned. I was just replacing fstab file from stock to. Port. I didnt edit any. . I will check again and update u.
3) Actually im in dilemma to blame on cimpiling or flashing.. The device is not booting even i didn't modify any item after repack. I need solution for that. If that resolved... Automatically everything will b set up by themselves.. Pls share any views regarding this..
I know its difficult to u to guide until u have hands on it or personally seen d procedures & results
I may upload videos / pictures/ share Team viewer etc.. if u want to see it personally.. So.. U can better understand my problem , my flaws where i need to b improved ( onlynif u wish) however i need a mentor to guide n judge methods im following

I empathize with your frustration.
Truth is that with the devices which have not caught the fancy of developers, not having proven root methods, custom recovery, etc only, we take initiatives ourselves and learn the things the hard way which is essentially a true way learning. With popular devices having already so many developments, there is no scope for adventurism and fun as well.
Just see back what are all you gained in doing the things you did with your device for gaining root. Could it have been possible with the so called popular devices?
Now let's come to the issue. In all times of failed booting on compiled imgs, how did you restore them? flashing again stock boot and recovery imgs? and with tools you mentioned?
If you could flash stock boot and recovery with the tools you mentioned, then there is no problem with those flashing tools. Then it comes to the decompiling and recompiling of imgs.
If it could be possible, can you share here stock boot.img, and custom recovery you have selected for porting (also mention the device name, recovery pertained). Let me try.
Yup.. Bro.

Actually, I had the same problem (I have vivo 1603). When I flashed boot.img after decompiling and recompiling,it bootlooped. I had twrp installed, so I first restored the backup of stock boot.img, and then installed the recompiled boot.img without rebooting. That worked for me
As you don't have custom recovery, I suggest that you first flash stock boot.img, and after the process completes, flash the recompiled boot.img without rebooting your device.
Hey bro, I decompiled the stock boot.img to see that if 'verify' flag was preventing booting the system with other than stock recovery. Dm-verity is a recent security control for preventing booting with changed/modified kernel/system. But I could not find any such flags, but found verity_key, so I just deleted it and decompiled the boot.img. I am not sure whether it can solve your booting problem. Let's see will this now allow to boot with custom kernel. Here is the modified stock boot.img. http://www.mediafire.com/file/tc1k1ghmy76nfqd/modified_oppo_boot.img
Flash first this boot.img and then flash the custom recovery.imgs (you can try your recoveries also)
I have also ported two recovery.imgs. Both are ported from the twrps for the same device, K6000 plus. However, what I found for this k6000 plus was different in size. So I ported two twrp recovery imgs. Here are two twrp ported recoveries, one is from you have given links to and another is from what I found on this forum.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4als7qmpwdz1iv4/oppo_port_twrpv1.img
http://www.mediafire.com/file/5xz7387at6rr0dy/oppo_port_twrpv2.img
Once again, I reiterate that first flash the modified boot.img and then try flashing the recoveries.
Best of luck

Nokia 4.2 Bricked, but can still enter FastBoot

Hello everyone !
Tried rooting the Nokia 4.2, did not know which img to use exactly so I tried one from some other shady site and messed up. Luckily, the recovery partition was still working. After trying to boot lots of images, I got tired and accidentally even flashed a Nokia 6.2 TWRP image to my recovery partition. Then I completely messed up. The phone only gets into fastboot now. May I please ask some help of you? I've been trying for days to fix things. I just wanted to root the original firmware. Now when I try to flash TWRP, it even says that the 'recovery' partition has no partition table! I can still write to boot_a and boot_b though. The phone originally had the October patch level, but before bricking it I upgraded it to the December level.
Kind regards,
Alexander47u

Haha, I have done the EXACT same thing as you. Now I can only enter fastboot mode and when I try to flash anything I have downloaded I get an error about missing partitions. I have looked everywhere for details on the partition sizes, mount points and so on but nobody has uploaded the information. In the end I went and purchased a second device in order to dump the entire stock ROM in order to fix the first phone. I've got the second phone running in ADB-mode but I can only backup to an .ab file so now I am back at square one. All of the guides I can find on how to dump the ROM involves flashing TWRP recovery but THERE IS NONE FOR THE 4.2 :crying: And after researching Android forensics I have found a guide to dumping the ROM but it needs root access in the phone shell. All I wanted was root (and LineageOS). Does anyone feel like patching the stock ROM and making a zip-file containing the img-files from all of the partitions?
Hi. You need to check which slot is in use, A or B. You can also choose slot A or B with fastboot. Then you flash the images to the partitions by appending _a or _b to the partition name.
E.g.
fastboot --set-active=a
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
Etc.
You also need to make sure you have a recent version of fastboot, as the fastboot in some Linux package managers or blog posts for Windows give you the older one, which does not support changing active slots.
Inside the stock rom that can be found online, there is another archive containing the needed images.

Thanks for the tip! Looks like I solved it earlier, I found a "user_update" zip in one of the downloaded ROMs and used fastboot update user_update.zip. Wuhu! Alexander, did you manage to flash a rooted recovery now? Thanks in advance!
You need to put the stock boot.img unaltered on a sdcard or the internal storage and then run the Magisk android app. It will offer an option to patch the boot.img. Then you can place the patched boot.img back on your computer and flash it using fastboot.

Stuck on G logo after root.

I just received my direct from Google Pixel 4 XL running the June 2020 update and proceeded to root it using the instructions found here https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-4-root-magisk/ after flashing the patched boot.img and rebooting the phone doesn't boot past the G logo; the status bar just loops indefinitely. Is there something I'm missing? Any help would be much appreciated.
I have no modules loaded, no custom kernel or ROM.
Go to recovery and reset the phone,
And reboot the phone in each steps
The guide looks mostly like what I do every month, though I haven't done June yet.
I don't think this will solve your issue, but usually I flash the patched boot image to both slots as Magisk in-place updates seem to fail if I don't...
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img --slot=all
I assume you didn't have any obvious issues with the guide steps aside from not booting after Step 5?
Make sure your platform tools are the newest you can get. Also make sure that you didn't get the Telstra variant of the June update.
If all else fails, try to revert by dirty flashing the (correct) June 2020 stock ROM. You'll only lose root if you do it correctly. (you don't have working root anyways)
Take the giant ZIP file you downloaded to get the boot image, merge it with platform tools and edit the flash-all.bat file... near the bottom, remove the "-w " from the command so it reads
Code:
fastboot update image-coral-qq3a.200605.001.zip
Save the changes and run the .bat file after booting the phone to fastboot and making sure its visible to platform tools.

Your first suggestion results in the phone booting, but ending up on a black screen with only the power menu
dirty flashing results in a successful unrooted boot, but rooting seems to not be possible for some users including myself. No clue why
Try flashing the patched boot to both boots but don't use the all slots command, do them one at a time, A, then B. See if that gets it.
So I am a fool.
I didn't run these commands using the latest "platform-tools"
but I will remember this instructions if I have issues in the future!
I am on latest platform tools and have tried all options presented and still get black screen with adb access and power menu. Other thoughts?
I just downloaded the full image and was getting ready to patch the boot image and flash it on my 2 day old Pixel 4xl. Maybe I will wait unless others have had success with this. I am on the June update. I made sure I didn't download the Telstra version.
Is there any reason to not just use the "Download Zip" option in Magisk? That always worked fine for me on my last phone.
Thanks, Chris

Is there any reason to not just use the "Download Zip" option in Magisk? That always worked fine for me on my last phone.
Thanks, Chris

I took the plunge and it booted just fine. I am on a G020J if that help. Hardware MP1.0.
I did not realize that TWRP was not available for the Pixel 4xl yet. What is everyone using for a custom recovery?

I feel like the options inside Magisk are for phones that are already rooted to update Magisk. I guess what your edit is saying is that you used to use TWRP with the ZIP?
Anyways, there are no custom recoveries for the same reason there is not TWRP. The partition scheme for Pixel phones that come with Android 10 pre-installed is too different for TWRP to live on it. I don't know enough about this subject, but I thought I read there was no separate recovery partition that could be made custom.
Everyone has been doing it all along, when people have issues it's usually the wrong boot image, wrong complete image, flashed boot image to wrong slot, used the factory cable (yes, it's a thing, don't use it or flashing), don't have the correct and/or latest tools. There was an issue with windows 8.1 and flashing, I don't remember what that was but those of you flashing and still on 8.1 you'll want to do a search for that.
@Brakiss, you may want to try the whole smash if all else has failed... THIS WILL DELETE YOUR DATA!
Start by going over to Goog ---> https://developers.google.com/android/images and getting the full factory image and the latest tools; even if you already did it do it again being careful to verify you have the correct image. While you're grabbing goods get the Magisk APK so you can install it after the image is flashed. For the flashing portion please follow the directions on that page to the letter. Do not use the factory cable; use an A to C. Before you flash run these commands one at a time
fastboot erase system_a
fastboot erase system_b
fastboot erase boot_a
fastboot erase boot_b
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After flashing get the boot image directly from the factory image you downloaded and not any other source and move it over to your phone along with the Magsik APK. Install magisk manager and then use it patch the boot image. You'll take that over to your PC and flash it as usual but do it to both slots and do them separately, do not use the all slots.

Correct, there is no recovery partition anymore. That has been a thing for a while now and not specific to the Pixel. My Moto x4 that I used prior to the Pixel 4xl had the recovery in the boot image but there was still TWRP for it. Whenever rooting that phone you have to boot a custom recovery image then from in there flash the separate custom recovery image/zip installer. It would modify the recovery that is embedded into the boot image.
I really hope that devs smarter than myself will figure it out and make a way to get TWRP on there.
On Android 11 Beta 2.5, I patch the original boot image, I then send it via fastboot, I tried flashing all partitions, manually _a and _b and stuck on Google logo ... When I put back the original boot.img, everything works properly. Miss my root but haven't seen any help on this :| Worked until I switched to 11 Beta ...
I have the problem too
Just as Chronos300 reported, I got stuck on the G logo. Some of my problem may be self-inflicted since I was not careful enough in following the directions: evidently it's important to finish the process for unlocking the bootloader before going to fastboot again to flash the Magisk boot image. I got stuck on the G logo but thought that I would have my way out by flashing the July factory image.
Most of that process worked out: things were good until the end when I saw a lot of messages about files that aren't present in image-coral-qq3a.200805.001.zip like boot.sig or recovery.img. I guess these are optional: the *.sig files may be intended to contain a checksum or hash and the recovery.img may just have gone away with the recovery partitions. Finally was an error that was fatal:
fastboot: error: Failed to boot into userspace fastboot; one or more components might be unbootable.

That's awful cheery. I see that the difference between flash-all.sh and flash-base.sh is that the former has the "fastboot -w update" that Shayded talks about. I tried running the update command as Shaded recommends, without the -w switch. This time it got farther, but this time the final message was "failed to extract 'product.img': I/O error"
Sure enough, image-coral-qq3a.200805.001.zip contains no product.img file. Is this my problem, or is the solution somewhere else? Would an older factory image have the missing file?
Sigh of relief
My phone's back in the land of the living. I had noticed the links on the factory-image page for the flash tool. Thinking that maybe these were better maintained, I thought to try out the August update for coral.
The flash tool downloaded whatever big image it grabs and then started into the installation. After a few minutes the fastbootd screen came up and the progress bar went to about 80%--and then everything hung. Hoping on hope, I decided I could leave it like this all night if I had to.
It might have taken half an hour, but it did finally come up with the screen saying everything had updated. Sure enough, it made it through the boot and came up to the setup screens.
Enabled developer mode, saw that the bootloader was indeed unlocked, and went about setting some settings. Haven't tried root yet, but it's sure great to be back in business!

Personally, I don't understand how you ended up without product.img... it's literally half of the internal ZIP file. (you're not supposed to extract this ZIP, anyways)

No, I never altered that zip file and was not trying to extract individual files from it when making that final run of fastboot update.
What I can tell you is that I was sleepy by the time I was doing that. There were two things I missed noting at the time but see this morning: product.img is indeed in the internal zip file and a message a couple of lines above the final error message (I had left the terminal window open):
extracting product.img (2102 MB) to disk...ziparchive W 08-18 00:00:43 31524 31524 Zip: unable to allocate 2204832024 bytes at offset 0: No space left on device

I would think that my failing to wait for a complete boot with an unlocked bootloader before attempting to flash magisk_patched.img did something unfortunate to the partitioning scheme. Evidently the web-based flash tool cleared it up.
Maybe I'm suggesting the obvious... but do you have 2-4GB available on every drive? It's complaining there's no available space. Typically product.img is split into 500MB parts and sent separately... so you'd need at least 2x the space available for the parts.
The flash-all is generic and looks for some files which are not used by these phones. This failure described is usually the wrong cord, you must use a USB A to USB C rather than a C to C. If not that it's going to be a tools/driver issue. There are a number of guides which can show how to find and delete old drivers and reinstall new drivers. Removing the W gets rid of the wipe but doesn't otherwise affect the flashing and will have nothing to do with it's success or failure; you are in effect dirty flashing when you remove it from the flash-all.
