Custom GSI firmware [Global/EU] - Redmi 7A Guides, News, & Discussion

UPDATE 10/16/19
I don't know why the development on XDA for redmi 7a is unbelievable lazy, but this is what I stole from 4pda!
1.Unlock the bootloader if you have not already done so.
2. Download vbmeta.img file (4 KB),
Download patched_boot_10.2.5EU.img,
https://filehorst.de/d/cFqIgsev,
2a For patched boot 10.2.6. Global Download
https://filehorst.de/d/cBeCunfm
2b. For patched boot 10.2.5. Global Download
https://filehorst.de/d/cDpHyAId
3. Download recovery
Code:
[URL="https://filehorst.de/d/cHyobAcd"]TWRP 3.3.1-1003 LRTeam[/URL]
[URL="https://filehorst.de/d/crqywBxx"]TWRP 3.3.1-1003-DX mod[/URL]
[URL="https://filehorst.de/d/cbvACbwB"]TWRP 3.3.1-1[/URL]
4. Drop the vbmeta file into the adb folder. Next, rename the patched boot file to boot.img and paste it with recovery into the adb folder
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
For patched boot but generally for the launch of custom firmware on our phone, say thanks YaAlex3
5. Reboot the phone by holding "volume + and power" the phone will reboot into TWRP
6. Flash Magisk
7. Download the GSI firmware. NEED A64 A / B . no other will do.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
GSI Firmware (A64 A/B):
AOSP 9.0 v119 (special instruction: search for boot fix and flash certification)
Descendant 4.0.1
DotOS
EvolutionX
PE Plus
MSM Extended
/e/
PixelExperience
ViperOS 6.5
LineageOS
And download and upload the Attached file Permissiver_v4.zip file (1.1 MB)
8. Unpack the downloaded firmware, you should get a file with the extension .img We
upload it to the USB flash drive. This can be done without leaving the recovery by simply connecting the phone via cable.
9. Make the Data format, wipe System, Davlik / Cache
8a. Install attached no-verity-encrypt-ysl to stay encrypted (optional)
10. Select Install img below - select the firmware file - select System
9a. If you like Gapps, Install BiTGApps Pie 9.0.0 (optional)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/arm-bitgapps-variants-t3959373
11. Flash Permissiver_v4.zip
12. Go back, select reboot - to the bootloader
13. In the adb folder, launch the console by holding the Shift button on the keyboard and right-clicking in an empty area, select the
line to open the command window.
We enter the fastboot flash vbmeta and then fastboot reboot
Code:
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot reboot
Everyone is now waiting for the phone to turn on (at first it will reboot it's normal)
Note: vbmeta can also be flashed before the start of the whole action, as you wish.
Note 2: If suddenly there is no memory card, you can wipe System, flash everything and format the latest date.
Important Notes (FAQ)
[ROOT]Video recording fix:
put
media.camera.ts.monotonic=0
to /vendor/build.prop
[ROOT] Fix brightness
Turn on USB debugging, run the terminal \ cmd on the PC, write
Code:
adb shell
su
setprop persist.sys.qcom-brightness $ (cat / sys / class / leds / lcd-backlight / max_brightness)
Rejoice.
How to certify a device for GSI
Important: If you are at the initial setup stage, you must complete it. If notifications about the need for certification interfere, disable them.
We need to find our GSF Device-ID
1. Download the application
2. Copy “Google Service Framework (GSF) there.”
3. Go here , paste and click the button.
Or Just flash this zip and you are good to go

I am not good at this stuff so I probably shouldn't do it but I wanted to install Magisk on my phone
I flashed the patched boot using this
fastboot flash boot boot.img
I installed TWRP as my recovery
I flashed Magisk 19.3 from TWRP and rebooted the phone
It started android as usual, the magisk manager said Magisk was installed
After a few seconds phone restarted and booted itself into recovery (TWRP)
I went back to android and uinstalled the magisk by clicking uinstall in magisk manager
But the phone still restarts itself and boots into recovery every time I go to android
And the wifi isn't working
Do you have any ideas how to fix it?
And sorry for my English it's not my first language
Edit:
I used MiFlash to install original boot.img and everything seems to work fine

What does the permissiver do? Is that neccessary?

wow amazing

Has anybody else with an unlocked bootloader tried this? does it work?
Also: OP the recovery.img link is dead. Please reupload if you can.

Treble ROMS/P20 Pro Stock Camera app

As we know we have a few treble Roms available for our device. But they are not stable at all in terms of the camera.they could be faster and smoother than the stock 7.0.
20 mpx Huawei mate 9 camera has a lot of features but those Roms lack that privilege.
Actually, we have a great Nougat Roms as well. Which I prefer - fromfuture-.
I'll be using this stock rom until a new AOSP 8.1 or RR Remix will be released.

I have RR and rooted though Magisk with SafetyNet passed.
All in all it's very nice, sometimes my phone makes noises even if it's in "Not disturb" Mode. But that only happened twice till now.
Everything else works! GPS, Wifi. 4g, Bluetooth etc. Only Android Auto doesnt work for me, but that's not that important.

So fromfuture is Nougat based?
Then you need to upgrade to Oreo first. Just search the forum, there are several Guides.
After that extract the stock boot.img, kernel.img and recovery_ramdisk.img from your stock rom using Huawei Update Extractor (settings->uncheck checks)
Than simply flash the three Images through fastboot on your phone and do a Data Format + Cache Wip ein Stock Recovery.
Than flash RR Rom with fastboot flash system and Twrp if you want.

Code:
fastboot flash kernel kernel.img
fastboot flash ramdisk ramdisk.img
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdis.img

Ok my friend but there are another thing I didn't get my model from the list my model is MHA_L29C158B370 so where should I look for it?

[GUIDE][CUSTOM ROMS] Flashing GSI and getting most of the things work

As this device supports Project Treble, it is possible to flash and boot generic system images.
Things needed:
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 with unlocked bootloader and twrp recovery
Instructions:
1. Make a system and vendor backup in TWRP
2. Download any A only GSI from web or here
For now, AospExtended is the most stable and has only 1 bug i.e. no out volte. Flash any other gsi at your own risk. If you do, please report which one you flashed and what are the bugs in it.
You can always restore your backup to come back to stock rom.
3. Extract the gsi if it is in rar/zip format to get system.img
4. Copy/move this system.img to your fastboot directory
5. Connect your phone in fastboot mode and enter the following command
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
TWRP can also be used to flash system.img to system partition, if it doesn't work, try with fastboot
6. Press and hold volume down + Power on to force reboot to twrp
7. Now, if you want flash gapps, make a system backup in twrp, reboot to recovery, and restore this backup you just made
8. Flash gapps now
10. Reboot to system
If there is no audio in calls, flash call audio fix
If it doesn't boot for you, try flashing magisk
res

0. I would recommend To Format Data completely and copy the files from your PC to the Phone then
1. Flash boot.img as boot img and vendor.img as vendor.img in TWRP
2. Flash the OxygenOS ABGSI as System Img
3. wipe Data
4. Flash FBE Disabler
5. Flash permissiver2 (don't know if this is nessesary but it did it)
6. Flash the Latest Hex Kernel by Draco
7. Flash Magisk
8. Reboot
And don't forget to wipe cache and dalvik always

[GUIDE] Flash Treble ROMs on OP7 Pro

Hey folks, after some digging I found a method how to flash Treble ROMs on our OP7 Pros!
I've only achieved this by following many great guides here on xda so credits go to: @Exelios and @demkantor for their threads which you can find here respectively:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/treble-mistery-solved-developer-t3800716
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112
Prerequisites:
Make sure all drivers for your device have already been installed. Otherwise plug in your phone to your PC and wait for all drivers to finish installing
Latest fastboot - minimal packages won't work, so follow the guide from the second link above
Stock boot.img and vbmeta.img which you can get from stock fastboot ROMs found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424
Inside these zips there's another zip called images.zip in which you can find required imgs for your particular device
Treble ROM of your choice (arm64 a/b)
Steps:
Copy all sensitive data from your phone as this process will wipe your phone entirely!
This includes: photos, songs, and any other files!
Put all needed files in one folder
Run cmd
Type: cd <your folders directory>
Reboot your phone in fastboot mode (hold power+vol up+vol down for a few seconds)
and connect it to your PC
Then type:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
After that:
Code:
fastboot -w flash system <your Treble ROMs name>.img
Using just the inactive partition and OxygenOS on another didn't seem to work for me.
This is the point at which your data will be erased so make sure again you have all your files
And finally:
Code:
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
This is required. If you want to go to stock either flash it again without
Code:
--disable-verity --disable-verification
or use aforementioned stock fastboot ROM package
Now reboot and wait for the phone to boot
Success!
If you got a bootloop or something just didn't go right you will have to repeat all of the steps
Now you can flash patched boot image to get root or try any of the fixes found here
Bugs:
60Hz
Fingerprint sensor
After using front camera it's stuck - it won't slide back inside the phone
Only 3G data connection
Wi-Fi signal seems to be quite weak
No Warp Charge

I got 90Hz working on my FlokoROM GSI with this dirty hack:
https://github.com/AndroPlus-org/an...mmit/724725063f12dfa7b95b43d97114149831f748b0
dtbo.img for 9.5.4 (flash it by fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img, don't know if it work on other version)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1X7W9iyKVy7gmkBjCSght7gy_Sbl4t3Iz
It replaces default 60Hz config with 90Hz one lol
For Warp charge, we need to place "dashd" to somewhere in system and run it:
https://github.com/FlokoROM-GSI/device_phh_treble/commit/1ef10fa131d6e350a2cd00fd25c10b621cbb1d5f
dashd should be added to device_phh_treble, but currently I added it with Magisk Module.

Legend! I managed to get havoc up and running. There is a OOS camera magisk port in the op6 forum I used and updated the camera to current one plus version and its working well. Front can doesn't work as you know.
Most things are working fine for me at the moment. No real issues yet
Camera quality is poor, but I'm not that fussed by it at the moment. Just want to play!
Thanks heaps for the guide.

Anyone able to get gsi working on 9.5.11?

I'm not sure why you would bother flashing things like Havoc treble rom when the official Havoc rom is available for OP7 pro?
I tried flashing many gsi but all stuck at boot animation .. any solution for this?

Anyone knows how to flash gsi roms on this device?

I believe gsi rom is much better than stock rom for our device as I'm using stock global rom and encounter lot of bugs and the only thing that make me happy is game space. Thanks!

This Friday hope I will be testing maximum no. of GSI image and will be posting which boots and working better for Redmagic 3 in a separated thread for discussion with the community.
Also will backup such as Game launcher, LED Strip and other important app using titanium backup and will try to install as system to check if they are working or not.
Just flash the Chinese rom then flash TWRP and then go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development and pick any rom you want some of them even have GAPPS included
---------- Post added at 04:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:31 PM ----------
If you're having trouble with GAPPS follow this steps
1) Boot into TWRP
2) Flash latest GSI img
3) Resize system file system (necessary on my device otherwise gapps will not install)
- Wipe -> Advanced -> select system -> resize file system
4) Flash pico or mini or aroma which ever you want gapps zip
6) Flash magisk zip
7) reboot
every (gsi) rom i've tried so far(various versions of resurrection remix, lineage, android 9 AOSP) has gotten stuck at the boot animation, tried pretty much everything i could think of(with a lot of getting stuck at the bootloader as a result)
for twrp i followed standard guides and the guides posted here, no errors, just gets stuck at the boot animation(i've waited for up to 2 hours to see if it might still continue)
anyone have any idea what could be going wrong?

I've successfully installed aosp 9 (phhusson), havoc 2.9 & 3 on my phone.
Here's some step that i take:
1. Install Chinese rom
2. Reboot to stock recovery wipe userdata & cache
3. Install twrp
4. Flash system image from twrp (always use a/b image)
5. Resize filesystem
6. Flash gapps & magisk
The phone should reboot once on the 1st boot and then boot normaly on the 2nd, you will know you've succeeded if the screen become dim at booting. That should take only a couple minutes, not hours. If that didn't happen try to format data from twrp or use different rom (i found that aex didn't work on my phone)
Hope this help :good:

Hi. I tried the phhusson 10.0 V203. It worked and it booted. I used ARM64 AB image. Everything was working fine, except i was unable to make any outgoing calls. So i tried to use a different image. After that nothing is working. Even the image that worked the first time doesn't work. It keeps getting stuck in boot loop and going to fastboot. I tried with 4 GSI images, nothing is working.

I've reverted my phone back to cn rom soon after because of the strange vibration bug on every single gsi rom i've tested and forgot to take stock rom system dump at that time so i never got any chance to try it.
But i've tried to install gamespaces stuff to my other phone running aex pie with no avail. So, unless anyone know how to mod the app or port the necessary framework stuff from stock into gsi rom I think it will never work.
Maybe some overlay will make it work. i don't know, just guessing.

If you stuck on fastboot after splash screen (without boot animation) then you have to use the unbrick tool to flash over the system and redo it if you want to. Never reboot without system on this phone or you'll stuck on fastboot.
But if it got bootloop at booting screen and able to enter twrp then you can try to wipe or format data. It happens on my phone too. I don't know if the twrp was buggy or something but yeah just try it back and forth between wiping and formating then it will randomly fixed.
Red magic 3 treble
That's the thing with this phone. Everything is random. I did use the repair tool and flashed the latest global version. But I am unable to flash the gsi again. It keeps getting stuck in fastboot screen. But if I select recovery from fastboot. It does goes to twrp recovery. But nothing after that. I hope someone can make a custom rom with Nubia launcher.
Red magic NEEDS to provide us with fastboot images...We have no real way to recover from a semi brick WTF!

I'm on havoc 2.9 right now. I managed to install game space and run it but it doesn't activate fan, so I'm guessing it need permissions and framework files which I don't know it's file name so I just give up on this. But game space does run like normal app. If you are wondering how I install game space, I pull out game space apk from global system.bat.br (after converted it to system.img) and put the apk in system/app using twrp file manager. Maybe someone knowledgeable can figure this out.
