Fingerprint scanner doesn't work in the evening - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

I bought 9t pro 5 days ago. Every day since then at about 7 pm and until morning my fingerprint scanner practically stops working. I've seen about 3 other mentions of this on the internet so far. I thought it was because of night/reading more since it's when it starts, but even with disabled reading mode the issue still remains.
Does anyone else have this?

Also getting this. 9T Pro too.
Funnily enough can trigger it by just changing date/time in settings. Screen hue changes slightly perhaps related to that.
Anyhow once my unlock comes thru in 4 days time I'm off to Pixel Experience so will live with it til then!

Did you try registering the fingerprint once more in the evening? Try this and report back.

Yeah I added my thumb an extra two times yesterday evening (have left thumb x2 and right thumb cx3). Didn't help.
Haven't tried registering thumb in diff orientations but the diff between fingerprint recog at night (even w lights on) and during the day is very stark.

I got better results unlocking my phone when I pressed my finger slightly harder into the screen. You really want the ridges to be directly on the screen. I've been used to the oneplus 5 where a light touch was all I needed.

Are you perhaps changing your identity after 7? Are you living two lives? These kinds of physical changes can account for a phone not recognizing it's master. Vigilantism is a crime you guys! Be careful with what you talk about. Lose lips sink ships and the white rabbit can be rabid at times so, it's not good for your health to follow it all the time. Perhaps the phone is punishing you? If I was stuffed in a pocket frequently, I'd probably fuss around 7pm and start retaliating. Little inconveniences like forcing you to tap your access code rather than reading your fingerprint is perhaps vindicating for that poor suffocating phone. Maybe if you change fabric softeners to something it likes, it won't have issues being placed in your pocket? Or maybe it's just hot in there. You could try placing something cold in your pocket with the phone (don't forget the change in fabric softener! This is important!) and your phone will feel more comfortable.

Do you wash your hands around that time? I can't do finger scan after I wash my hands.

Try disabling auto brightness and change it to more brighter, in low light conditions the screen tends to be very dark.

[Q] How to improve GPS accuracy?

This is the best I can get right now with my captivate. Even though it says 5m accuracy it is in fact worse on Google maps.
I also have a Nexus 1 and that is getting 1m accuracy in the same spot and I don't get the circle around the arrow in google maps. But that never goes away on Captivate it has this big circle and sometimes its pointing about 20-30 metres away from where I really am.

I've tried a lot of different stuff but never got good gps .
that differs for every phone so I suggest you read and try out almost everything you can

I don't think your going to get better than 5m on a captivate. The real question is how long did out take to get a10m lock from the time gps started transmitting/ttransmitting? For Captivate, less than 30 second is very good. It goes back to the hardware used, IMHO.
There are multiple threads on gps already open. Read through some of them, maybe you can find something the rest of us missed.
If I gave been a help, please don't forget the thank you button.

I'm going to dispute the last post. Time to first fix doesn't seem to be a real issue for anyone I am in a discussion with. Hardly anyone needs a single quick fix of questionable accuracy. What we want is for the phone to be able to navigate through town, or to be able to record a track. For both of those, the difference between a 5 second TTFF and a 30 second TTFF is unimportant. But if the phone continually puts you on the wrong street, you are going to have problems - either you will be making incorrect turns, or you will be focusing on the screen to ensure you are where you are supposed to be and you won't have your attention on your driving.
It also seems clear that when the GPS says it's a "10 meter" lock (for example), that accuracy is a mathematical calculation that seems to have little bearing on the true positional accuracy. I'm often 2-4 "error bars" away from the position the phone thinks I am, particularly early on in the locking process. One might say "well, that's expected, since your position is based on a shorter duration reading of the signals", but isn't that the whole point of giving you a positional error - to let you know the reliability of the measurement.
Locking fast on your device doesn't mean you have good gps ..
Good gps = staying locked even though you are moving around
At least that's what I think of having good gps as

After reading the above comments,i decided to try my gps in a moving vehicle. At 60 mph, I maintained a5m lock, with position updated almost every second. Ok, 5m is approx 15 ft. single lane road is what, 6-7 ft? That sound pretty accurate to me. I would recommend Garmin or tomfom if you want better accuracy than that.

Problems I have encountered with the Moto G 2014

1) Low memory issues. This is particularly annoying when it force closes or reloads chrome. This has occurred when uploading pictures on Amazon when listing a product, when chrome casting in the background, when listening to music and web browsing. Sometimes the app drawer also restarts... People who say 1gb ram is enough sound like a broken record. 1.5gb should be the minimum for android.
2) GPS ( device only mode) doesn't work. It will not detect my location so I have to use high accuracy mode which kills the battery. Not sure if this is a software bug or just a hardware issue but it's annoying.
3)Auto brightness sucks. It keeps the screen brightness far too low... And takes ages to kick in. Trying to use a third party app to manage this results in it force closing when your multi tasking because of the 1 gb ram causing the brightness app to go crazy.
4). HSPA+ speeds seem to be very low when turning off location, not sure if this is software or hardware related but I am lucky to get 3 mbps down.
Other the hand I am pleased by the camera, its far better than the moto x 2013. The speakers are decent, and the screen when controlled manually is very good, can't see any difference with the nexus 5. The battery gave me 6 hours SOT over a 10 hour period which was nice. The dual sim is useful for my illicit activities. The micro SD slot is the icing on the cake.
I am stuck whether to keep this or go back to my moto x 2013.

Memory and autobrightness problems are reported to Motorola. So maybe fix is coming? Until then I use Greenify and Lux.

Today my Moto G started to show problems with the wifi (never had this issue while it was on KitKat). I noticed it was connected to my data plan and when I checked the notification bar, the wifi logo was greyed and had an exclamation mark. After reboot, the problem was fixed for a few minutes and then returned. Another reboot and lasted a little more.
It's the third time now, so I'll see how much it lasts.

Proximity sensor

Hey
I've noticed my proximity sensor stopped working. On calls the screen don't turn off now.
I've found the option for it and it's selected.
Anyone else?
Any test I can do?

The Mi 9 has odd sensor reliability. My accelerometer also stops working for some reason if an app uses it but works again randomly. Might be a firmware/software issue since if it's hardware issue should permanently not work anymore.
The new designed (full, or almost full-screen) phones aren't coming with the standard proximity-sensor. It's more complex, uses the IR, Gyroscope, or more sensors.
I have to reboot the phone every now and then. Maybe every 3/4 days. The sensor stops working

My proximity sensor has been dead from day 1
Do you wear tempered glass? may be the problem
I Had same issue but fix it by removing glass!
hi. i have a mi 9 se an i have this same issue.
i have the auto brightness turned on and the proximity sensor doesn't work.
i don't have the "pocket option" but i have something called "rise to wake" witch i activate and it didn't work as well.
if i reboot my phone it works on the first call but on the second call stops working again.
it's very annoying because with the screen on when i answer a call my ear keeps touching the phone screen and activates and deactivates options that like mobile data and other things. i dont think its normal in 2020 have to deal with this kind of issues.
Also have other problems.
- ex: sound doesn't work good when its to low
- no notification light and AOD is not a solution because it can shows ridiculous animations but isn't able to show a simple dot
- the phone lags a bit performing simple operations (not games).
bought it in december 2019 but wouldn't do it again.

Killing optimizer, and continous alerts on BT headset

I bought a P30 a week ago, and two things drive me nuts. First of all the optimizer, which is obviously not artificially intelligent, since I have said countless times that I don't mind if Snapchat is using power. Without that I'd never hear from my daughter... Is there a way to stopp Optimizer completely, or at least block the alerts?
And talking about alerts, there's the standard alert sound coming every few minutes as long as I have my BT plugs (I'm using Sony WF-1000XM3's) connected. But there's never anything in the alert panel. I wonder if it can be because of another useless piece of [email protected] information, in English I am guessing it's called "Device connection - Active audio device" or something like that. I can click a wheel to the right in that and get a box that lets me choose between audio from the plugs and the device, but why should I? I can turn of the plugs to get the tragically bad sound from the vibrating screen!
So can anybody give me a tip about this? On my previous Samsung I'd just use a root function to fix it, but that's not as easy on this phone since it seems just about unrootable without a lot of extra hassle.

You can kill the power management completely (Power Genie) so that all apps run as intended, you do lose per app usage stats but that's all

Yea, and when I disabled it, it made 0 difference to battery life, similar issue to you except with WhatsApp, would not give me any messages until I opened the app regardless of power settings
Good! The battery is so good compared to my old S9 anyway, and the charging time is so short, that I'll never have any problems with it.

Made the same move from S9 > P30, battery life is extremely good compared although I miss the Samsung experience so am looking at the S20 Ultra now
That one's far too expensive. Not that I can't afford it, just that I can't justify it. The cheaper models have worse cameras then the P30, that's why I bought that for about half the price of a S20 Ultra. I'd rather buy another pair of ceiling speakers for my Atmos system! And I see hat you came from Samsung in your sig. Btw the latest software to the S20 was apparently so buggy they couldn't reivew the S20 in Norway!

Oh I have sigs disabled, I`ll have to remove it
The only reason I want the Ultra is the new 108MP sensor the others won't have, I have always gone for the standard model as the Pro/Plus models weren't worth the extra to me, bigger screen/battery and one extra lens wasn't enough for the extra cost, but I really enjoy photography which is also the reason I got this P30, few things missing vs the S9, like true 960fps slow mo, and I used to take a lot of shots of my dog running about, with the S9 they almost always came out sharp and clear, the P30 seems unable to take clear shots of moving objects, most pics come out blurred, also the RYYB sensor tinting everything yellow gets a bit tedious
It takes a great photo for scenery etc, low light is amazing so hopefully the Ultra can match / beat that
While EMUI doesn't give you the option to completely disable the persistent Device Connection Service notification when you have a Bluetooth audio device connected, I managed to create a workaround using Macrodroid:
{

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This macro will be triggered whenever the Device Connection Service notification appears and will immediately dismiss the notification without letting it re-appear after whatever time limits EMUI usually sets. The result is a clean notification centre without this persistent banner getting in the way. If this doesn't work, change the trigger to Connectivity > Bluetooth Event > Device Connected > [your headphones here].

Well, I have exactly the same problem, but only with WhatsApp, Viber works as it should. Once I tried rubbing the upper part of the display (where all the sensors are) and it seemed to work, albeit just for a while.
What other apps do you have problems with?
Probably like Xiaomi Mi 11- Mi11 Ultra doesn't have psychical proximity sensor, it has virtual proximity sensor made by Elliptic Labs, so some apps can be acting wired or Virtual Proximity sensor is not yet optimized for them.
Xiaomi Mi 11 does not use a physical (hardware) sensor for proximity, but an algorithm studied by Elliptic Labs which uses speakers and microphone.

It's a huge duckup in a flagship phone. Sometime I wonder if Xiaomi has QA at all.
For example: open pro mode in the camera, change only the EV to -0.3. now change lens to the ultra wide. Basically you need to change the EV every time you change lens..it's silly.
