This MIUI version can't be installed on this device. - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Few days ago I bought Redmi K20 Pro from China. There was by default Chinese Stable ROM on my device. So I wanted to flash Global Stable ROM & replace Chinese Stable ROM. I got the permission to unlock my bootloader through mi flash unlock tool.
So I unlocked the bootloader on PC. Then I tried to flash Global Stable Fastboot ROM using mi flash tool. While I was flashing, mistakenly I chose "clean all & locked" on mi flash tool.
After flashing, my phone got stuck on recovery mode & it shows "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device". While I am trying to unlock my bootloader again using mi flash unlock tool then it says: You should wait 30 days to unlock another device.
Anyone can give me a proper solution how to get rid of it? I am stuck with it since yesterday.
Your help will be very much appreciated.

Try after 7 days from today or at max you'll have to wait for 30 days before you can unlock. Use an another phone for the time being.

The limit is unlocking once per calender month.
On the 1st of the month the time will therefore reset to the normal 7 days, so you'll save a week at least. Still not good, but better than nothing.
If you cannot wait, you could open up the phone and put the phone into EDL mode and unlock and flash it. Look here for info about this option

As for needing an authorised account, people have reported success using s-unlock details of which can be found here.

Problem is fixed!
Thanks to all of you guys. I was able to flash the Chinese stable ROM through test point/edl method with the help of a technician. Its BL is still locked & I am running the latest Chinese Stable ROM.

Did the technician open the back panel to perform the EDL or just straight away flash?

I think this is the best way to solve your problem, but still have to wait for applying BL unlock, after that you can start the second flashing.

Hey man I have the same problem. Except I cannot wait to unlock the bootloader because there is no account associated with my phone right now.
So I wanted to ask you to point me in the right direction. I can do the testpoint connection myself in order to go to edl mode.
What I want to know is if I can flash using just MiFlash tool or I need some other mi account or software?
Thank you!

Re-lock Mi 8 Bootloader after moving from China Stable to Global Stable

Appreciate if someone can help.
I purchased a Mi 8 Chinese version with China Stable ROM, unlocked Bootloader after waiting 372 long hours and yesterday installed recently released Global Stable ROM. Everything went well and phone worked perfectly. However, when I tried to re-lock the Bootloader, (using both XiaoMiTool and Fastboot methods) the Bootloader gets locked but the phone goes into Recovery bootloop every time with a message at the bottom that "this Miui version cannot be installed on this device....." When I unlock the bootloader again (by booting into fastboot and using Xiaomi Unlock tool) the phone boots normally.
So can I conclude that the bootloader cannot be locked unless I move back to China Stable ROM which originally came with the phone? I read somewhere that Xiaomi has disable the re-locking of bootloader just to curb selling of Chinese versions as Global, as some sellers were selling Chinese versions of Xiaomi phones as Global after installing Global ROMs.
I'm having the same issue as you just did. Not sure why the bootloader can't be relocked. I thought the model # between HK and China versions were supposed to be the same..
Recently xiaomi makes some ugly rules about local and global variant device to prevent Chinese device selling globally and global device selling into china. For that user can flash global rom to china variant device and global variant device to china rom, but we have to unlocked bootloader. Device will perform normally just find device will not worked. Also antirollback terrible disgusting too. I have some xiaomi mobile device and selling them one by one. Only keeping Mi8. If I need more secure device, I can buy iphone. I no need then xiaomi device.
People loving Xiaomi because of its hardware and software with up-gradation facilities. But their operating system optimization is really bad. Every update makes device performance different.

Actually I was reading some things on the MIUI official forum and * apparently* if you have a chinese MI 8 and want to switch to Global rom, your bootloader must remain unlobcked.... I'm not seeing much confirmation on that, but I would be catious...

Yeah, switching to a global rom on a Chinese variant and then locking the bootloader will result in a brick. But I don't understand why anyone would relock the bootloader since most repair shops find out if you unlocked it in the past.
Relock not for warranty reasons, but to get android pay / NFC payment or other banking apps working. Many of them won't work with BL unlocked.
i read that we need an authorized edl account to relock the bootloader, but now it is impossible to get this account..
so this time i'm very dissappointed with xiaomi.

Netflix app and Google Pay needs locked bootloader.
The Mi Mix 2S has the same problem, it seems this person solved it by using recovery version of global ROM with Mi PC Suite: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=2943351&page=2#pid27478883
I don't have the device to test it yet, but you should at least be able to keep an unlocked bootloader and use apps that require it to be locked by using Magisk and enabling Magisk Hide on those apps.

I do not know if I can post the link here, but there is a topic in the MIUI forum that gives EDL authorization for just an unbrick. And you must wait for your position in the list.

:good::good:congratulations my friend. I was already sad that I did not understand.
Its solution is simple but of enormous importance for mi8users.
I also did everything ok, but at mi8 it was different. I also received "this Miui version can not be installed on this device ....."
I downloaded miflash unlock .... romGlobal was already installed on mi8 but with blockloaded bootloader it did not work ok.
Now I'm happy and with GlobalRom stable very fast.:good:
Hi,
I try to relock the bootloader with Global ROM install but the phone haven't sign-in with Xiaomi account and it get the same message as your guy "this miui version cannot..." . Now I can't unlock my bootloader to revert it and my phone stay at recovery or fastboot, can anyone know how to flash it back?

Mi8 Change ROMS

Hello
I bought the Mi8 from China this summer and I decided to unlock it so I can try a few roms ( Xiaomi eu , Pixel 2 Port , Lineage etc. ).
The phone came with Global ROM and unlocked via the unofficial method . My friends advised me to install China Developer MIUI 10 8.8.31 then lock the bootloader and unlock it via the official method and I am waiting 720 hours . In about 10 days the unlock procedure will be finished .
So can you explain which roms can I install ? I will install for now the Global Stable 10.0.2 but I am not the biggest fan of MIUI so I will want to install the Pixel ROM for example in the near future but it's on Android 9.0 . Will I be able to return to MIUI 10 Global Stable with Android 8.1 from any Android Pie ROM or Xiaomi eu ROM ?
Thanks a lot !
Hi, what procedure did you follow to relock the bootloader?
I downloaded China Developer 8.8.31 Fastboot ROM and I flashed it via MiFlash and chose "Clean all and lock" .

If you have unlocked Mi8 it means the seller unlock it unofficial by using EDL method . So that means you can brick your device very easily . If you bought it from China you need to install China Stable/Developer and lock it . Then unlock officially with your account then the phone will be less likely to brick if you know what you are doing .

I was on MIUI Global 10.0.2.0. I rebooted into fastboot and flashed 8.8.31 fastboot china developer rom with MiFlash and "clean all and lock". The phone booted into chinese Mi Recovery without MiFlash finishing procedure. I couldn't use MiFlash again because the bootloader was locked. I tried Mi PC Suite in chinese and tried to recover my phone but it didn't work. I think maybe ARB bricked my phone. I don't know for sure. I had checked arb before with getvar and the result was "FAILED" so I was confident ARB was not present on my phone. When the phone booted in Mi Recovery in chinese... there was no text saying "This MIUI version can not be installed on this device". So I had not installed a global rom by mistake on my Mi8 china device. I don't know for sure what went wrong. Anyway, I unbricked my phone with an edl authorised account I bought at S-unlock and now I'm on china stable rom 10.0.5.0 and I am waiting 15 days to unlock my bootloader. If anybody might have an idea what might have gone wrong please share your opinion. Could it be the USB drivers on Windows 10??? I don't know.

damn, i really have no idea what went wrong. you pretty much did everything by the book and this shouldnt happen. do you remember if you ran getvar anti before or after flashing global?
im asking because as far as i know, official xiomi software should return anti 1 from day to present day. variable unknown suggest reseller tempered with bootloader (to unlock?). but when you fastboot flashed official global it should rewrite everything including bootloader so after it should return 1. i could be wrong on this because im still looking for any real info on this topic. but if you open any fastboot rom tgz and look into flash_all.bat, there is a line thar sets anti to 1. so it should be there from day 1. thanks again for you feedback, lots of people are flashing back to china and locking because other people say it is a good thing to do. your case proves it might not be such a good idea.

Fake global

Hi.
Unfortunately, I bought a k20 pro in the global version (aliexpress).
What do I have to do to not have brick? log in to mi account on the phone and Install the original china rom in mi flash and tick Clean all "option (not lock). Then wait again for the unlock bootloader?
having a global rom from aliexpress I can flash twrp right away and change rom ? Non Brick?

Basically the trick is to make sure you never accidentally relock the bootloader.
This normally happens if you've stuffed something up and need to flash a fastboot ROM. When this happens ALWAYS remember to change to 'clean All' when flashing with the Mi Flash Tool.
I assume the bootloader is already unlocked. If so, then you're 7 days ahead of the game and can go ahead and install TWRP and any other ROM of your choice. As long as you do everything correctly then you should have no problems.

Yes you can install TWRP and change the ROM.
The normal reason to flash a Chinese fastboot ROM is when you have done something wrong and soft bricked the phone. But yes you would also do this if you wanted to lock the bootloader again.

Wait, so you had the 'Global rom' model? Did they leave the phone associated with the Mi account originally? And where did you buy from?
Just curious because my 'Global rom' model K20 Pro arrives tomorrow. Unfortunately ordered the day before all this stuff came out :/
Sorry if this is a bit newby, but I ordered the same (K20 pro) from ali express, there is no way the global rom is official?
If it's not and the bootloader is unlocked, why is this a problem? Because the find my device won't be working? or is the security compromised if it is?
Is the global rom worse than the Chinese? And if the phone isn't disconnected form the Mi account they used to unlock the bootloader with, arn't I screwed?
Sorry for the salvo of questions..

At the moment there is no global version of the phone. So there is no official global ROM. The global ROM versions currently for sale are using a hacked/modified versions of MIUI. These versions are made by people unknown and could possibly contain malware, etc. which could compromise your security. Probably, the ROM will be OK, but you just never know.
Having the bootloader active unlocked isn't a problem normally and gives you the benefit of not having to wait 7 days. You can flash TWRP and install other ROMs with no problem.
But there are a couple of cases on these forums where people have had things go wrong whilst flashing a fastboot ROM using the Mi Flash Tool. They have ended up accidentally relocking the bootloader whilst also corrupting the system partition. Because they haven't unlocked the bootloader themselves originally, they are unable to unlock the phone again and can't install TWRP to install another ROM.
Some people are now choosing to flash an official ROM and relock the bootloader, to allow them to unlock the phone themselves with their own Mi account. So if they end up in the same position as above, they should be able to unlock the bootloader and easily restore the phone.
However some people, when restoring the phone to stock after messing up, have accidentally relocked the phone. When they've tried to go through the unlock process they have found that the phone is still linked to the sellers Mi account and they are unable to link it to their own account and so are unable to unlock it again.
If you never relock the bootloader, either accidentally or deliberately, then you will not have any problems. But if you end up needing to flash a fastboot ROM, then the Mi Flash Tool default option is to flash and relock, so it only takes a brief lapse in concentration to find that you've got a locked bootloader again. If this happens, I would guess that it's far more likely that you won't have any problems and you are able to unlock it again.

Just be aware that this option also comes with risks. Occasionally some people have found that the phone is still linked to the sellers Mi account, they are then unable to ink it to their own account and so cannot unlock the bootloader again.

Thank you very much for help. I have read both but unfortunately i can not UNLOCK my bootloader… when i was trying to unlock the bootloader through MI UNLOCK, it says "Current account is not bound to this device". Otherwise if this was succesful and i could unlock it, then it would be easy i believe.

Since you locked the boot loader, you'd have to flash (with fastboot) using the same flavor of miui which was installed. (example: chinese or eu variation), otherwise you won't be able to boot.

Yes, that i understood… There was EU variation with unlocked bootloader, which i do not know why, but okay…
But now i can not unlock it, it says, when i try to unlock it though fastboot with mi unlock, it says "Current acount is not bound to this device, ADD your acount and device in MIUI"s setting > developer options> mi unlock status.. but obviously i can not do it since i can not turn on my phone, its stuck on recovery mode.

If you know how to sideload the rom then everything is become okay dont worry
After successful debrick you must bound you mi account to your phone and wait for bl unlock then reflash with mi flash tool and global rom
AND DONT LOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER AGAIN
Yes, unfortunately i do not know how to sidload the rom... But when i have Chinese rom downloaded then what do i do with that? I connect the phone through mi assistant and there it can be flashed?
I had the same thing happen. You need to force a firmware flash ?
I had someone on xda recommend an excellent recovery tool.
It's called 'miflashpro'. It can be hard to find the English version. I did eventually but actually unbricked my Mi9 with the Italian version.
99% chance your cell can be fixed this way
bricked too
I'm having the same problem here, after wipe in twrp mode my phone restart and i'm blocked on bootloader screen.

I did the same thing with a Mi CC9 relocked the bootloader by mistake thinking it was like any other android phone. Did you have a Xiaomi account associated with the phone and signed into after enabling oem unlock in developer options.
If tha'ts the case you can use https://en.miui.com/unlock/ tool from where but it checks your phone number to see whether its associated with mi unlock.
Otherwise you will have to use EDL method which involves disassembling back of phone and shorting out two pins to initialize EDL data transfer but you need a EDL associated account this (belief xiaomi has revoked everyone access to these)
Hello all members.I had same problem and I open this phone with suport from youtube .I try clean some connector and worming cpu and motherboard. After change the battery with new. When close the phone they suprised me and working good. After 10 hours again close and bricked. It sounds like you flashed with the Mi Flash Tool and forgot to change the flash option and so locked the bootloader. Unfortunately doing this bricks the phone when flashing a ROM that is not the same region the phone is from.
You could wait until 1st October and start the unlock again, it should reset to 7 days then. Your other option is to open up the phone and pay $15 to EDL flash a ROM. This guide tells you all about this.
