ASUS ROG Phone 2 Ultimate Edition - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

Is it worth waiting for the Ultimate edition or is it just the same as the normal 512gb with double the storage?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

It also has a faster CAT 20 modem (not sure if that would translate to a real world performance increase) and a matte finish on the back. I'm thinking of making use of the 4k and slow motion video abilities, so that extra storage may be worth it to me depend on the price difference in the U.S.. Based on the UK prices, it's roughly a $300 difference.

Wonder if it has different cell bands?

They could have added more Ram on the ultimate model or a 4K screen.
To me it seems like the extra storage is the main difference.
LTE performance is not the main priority since we will be using WiFi most of the time.
Isn't the China model matte black in color?
The regular global model is glossy black right?

That would've been no more overkill than the current specs! Lol.
The RAM may become beneficial if you keep it Long term. I'm happy with the 1080p screen. Anything higher and I wouldn't see any difference. Heck, on my V20, I have to look really hard to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p videos.

Yeah but to justify the extra cost, they should have added more.
Now some would rather buy an accessory than paying more for the extra storage.

An odd comment because the ultimate has 12gb of RAM, 1tb storage, and a different modem thing

The regular "elite" global version has 12 GB of RAM too. The China Tencent version is the only one with 8 GB RAM

The Elite edition adds, comparing to Tencent (china) Edition, the Aero-Case, the Cooling Fan, a pair of in-ear speakers, more ram (12Gb) and more rom (512Gb).
The Ultimate edition adds, comparing to Elite Edition, the matte black colour on the back (Elite one is glossy), more rom (1Tb) and its internal modem will let a LTE connection to reach its download to 2Gbps.
Elite it's 899Euros, Ultimate it's 1199Euros. I don't think it's Worth it, since you will use a protective case. They should have added the joypads to the bundle, and I think more than one person would have brought it.

More Ram? lol like 12gb is enough.
Do agree that the should have thrown in the pads as they are overpriced as it is.

This article seems to be more reasonable about the latest Nexus 5 rumors. Potential specs look great to me. Selling point for me will be the improved camera. The best camera is the one that's with you..

Have all the previous Nexus devices been announced in the fall time? If so, we still have a while to wait. If Tmo has an up an running hybrid LTE/HSPA+ network by then, that might be nice. However, if the N5 comes with that particular chipset, IT MUST MUST MUST seamlessly, flawlessly, and speedily switch between the two so you would never even know. I seem to remember hearing how the Gnex on verizon would take ages to go back to LTE. Also, is it too much to ask for a native T9 dialer?

Thank goodness they are not switching back to OLED.... but the 8/16gb storage rumor in that article is rather disappointing.
More storage. And Instead of SD card a 32/64 GB models would good coz ib doubt they will put a SD card. That would be good. Full HD display.

Disappointing yes but it may be a factor in keeping the cost low as well as getting the next manufacture to agree to make such a high spec low cost phone without hurting sales of their flagship model (ex: LG with their Optimus G)
I really think that SD cards are left out in nexuses because Google wants to promote cloud but more importantly are left with low storage capabilities on purpose in order to differentiate the phone from the manufacture's flagship. Its all part of the "compromise" between Google and the manufacture.
At the end of the day, I'm lucky enough to have 6GB a month of LTE data so storage space is becoming less and less important. I realize not everyone has data plans though and for those folk, the manufacture is hoping you'll pay more for their flagship that has an SD card slot or 32/64GB of internal storage.

On screen buttons also reduce the actual screen size available.
Aluminum build would be nice as well so you don't have to baby the phone so much as I hate having to use a case on such a beautiful phone but am more concerned about cracking the back glass.

I think I can make this very easy for you. In terms of sheer power, the Xperia Z2 tablet is the most powerful tablet right now (Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM, running Android 4.4 out of the box). The only negative aspect of the Z2 is that it has a full HD resolution, lower than 2560x1600 on the tf701t. If you want to play game, Snapdragon 801 + full HD screen is the best combination for gaming since it won't kill your frame rates.

Even at 360 bucks it's at least $240 less a price I paid for mine (480 Euros, only three months ago).
On topic: The Tegra 4 is powerful but only features OpenGL 2.0. New benchmarks and game titles might look much better when running GL 3.1, which the GPUs running in newer tablets like Xperia Z2 support.
The Tegra4 sometimes has it's issues with the high resolution, that's true. But all in all it's good enough.
I see the the tegra 4 also powers some cintiq tablets at the lower 1920x1200. Could our higher resolution be overkill? Do these other tablets allow for the higher resolution 2560x1600 or does it have to do with our display? Actually a good deal when you consider that cintiq is $1500

The higher resolution is definitely overkill for games -- but it is fantastic for reading text and webpages. It really reduces fatigue and eye strain when reading for long periods.
So it really depends on what you want a tablet for...

Poll: 64gb/6gb OR 128gb/8gb, which one did you buy?

Vote and share your thoughts.
I ordered the 64gb version. I never filled my op3t with 64gb, so that just seemed like the obvious choice for me.
Picked up the 128gb.
Seems like the extra ram will be useful in the future.
8GB /128GB model. Don't think i'd use all of the storage, but the 8GB could make my phone futureproof for about two years.
I went for the 128gb/8gb version. For future proofing and the midnight black colour.
128/8 model. Seemed a no-brainer.
64/6 version.. both values are more than enough for me..
128/8 I choose. Seemed worth the little extra money for double the storage
First ordered 128 GB from oneplus.net but order delayed so I cancel the order and collect 64 GB from O2 store as I realize that on my 32 GB S7 +32GB SD card I never go higher than 36 GB so 64 GB is more than enough, most flagship phone work just fine even with 4 GB RAM, 8 GB RAM+Black color for £499 is marketing tricks to milking more money from spec. hungry people, most of my huge data stays in my laptop and external HDD and I don't install huge games in mobile . Think like £500 for OP5 if you add AKG like headphone, connector, water & Dust proof, High resolution curved screen, OIS, Micro SD slot, Refined camera chip, Wireless charging and £99 free Samsung Level speaker which is even water and dust proof and you can use it to charge your phone, in comparison OP5's price is too high, I don't agree when everyone said about cheap price or budget phone or £100 less compared other flagship phone, this is how they made cheap??
£50 for another 2GB RAM and twice the memory??
Yep I went for the 128 GB variant

The big girl. No reason not to, really. I ordered on Monday evening and it showed up via FedEx this morning (Thursday). Pretty spectacular service. Haven't had time to play with it much yet but I'm coming from a 3T and can't wait.
8gb/128gb Midnight Black! Well bigger is better and if you say it's not, well let's just say you're hiding something! I'll never use the 128gb up but 2gb of extra ram certainly will increase efficiency.
I just loaded 86GB of FLAC to mine, so... yeah. Good to have room! Might get a few movies on there before I call it quits.
I'm truly baffled that anyone would buy the 6g/64gb version when there is an 8g/128gb version for $60 more.
Most companies charge you $100 to go from 64 to 128,and then there is the added ram, which arguably isn't needed, but why not have it if it's available.
Honestly there is no legitimate reason for getting the lower model.

I got the 6gb/64gb version. I had already made up my mind that I would get the OP5 as long as it was under $500. The price difference wasn't that much for the black one so I was willing to break the $500 budget I set for myself. But it was out of stock when I tried to order it. Either way, it's still more storage and ram than any other phone I've had and 64gb was the largest SD card I have ever needed personally.

How fast is the 512gb version vs 128gb

Hey guys quick question. Can you post some benchmarks of the 512gb version and the 128gb version? I curious if there is any performance gain with the 2 extra go of memory. There isn’t anything like that on YouTube. I appreciate it.
Both phones will be fast as hell. The extra 2 gig ram means that you can essentially have more apps open at the same time and I have noticed a slightly zippier performance compared to my 6gb s9 plus

Correct. You would hard tell the difference. The s9 can be found as an A Grade refurb online for less than £500 here in the UK if you hunt about. That's over half the price of the N9 for essentially the same real world performance...

That was one of Zeedomax's arguments from his YouTube channel High on Android. He was basically saying the SD845 has been out since the S9 introduction and technically Samsung shouldn't be selling the note9 as much as it is, since the chips are now 6 plus months old and cheaper to buy.

Well there's no s-pen, which is why you buy a Note, so... Not the same performance to me. I get what you're trying to say, but I cannot comprehend why anyone would go for the Note9 without wanting a stylus.

It's $159 over S9+ for: double storage, larger battery, stylus with Bluetooth, a screen capable of understanding 4096 pressure sensitivity levels, and a slightly better, brighter screen at that. How is that $159 jump not justified? I don't get it. That's a ton of extra stuff. Just because people don't use the stylus and special screen, doesn't mean they aren't costs. And larger battery and double storage alone is "worth that" for many.
yes even the 6GB Note 9 version is faster than the 6GB S9 plus version.
Picking up my 128 today from Best Buy. Seems like almost everyone is buying the 512 even if it’s not needed. I don’t really think there’s a huge difference between 6 or 8gb of ram for daily usage.

Essentially no there is not a major real world difference. However there are probably power users on here where the extra ram and the 512 would be useful

Absolutely love my phone.
53k is a lot of money and I was pretty sure not to spend that much but then couldn't resist and got one. (also the big credit should go to oneplus for their clever marketing)
Waiting for gcam ports. Tried one mi9 one not that great not that bad.
I got my device delivered on 17th. So far I am a little concerned with the battery life compared to my OP6 it seems to be discharging a lot faster. I hope a future update brings variable refresh rate. That should help with battery a lot. Other than that, I am extremely happy with the device.
Got mine Friday, apart from camera exceeded all expectations. Got a gcam port working, will test it out and update..
Will I see any real life performance difference between 6gb and 8gb variant?
I am usually a moderate - heavy user (Lots of gaming)
I usually keep my phone for 2-3 years. (Still rocking the OP3)
Any advise will be appreciated.
Hey guys.
I'm stuck between buying the 6GB RAM & 128GB ROM or the 8GB & 256GB ROM Nebula version.
I like the blue version but I think the more RAM and storage space is overkill and just a waste of money even though it's not a huge amount (4k INR).
Any suggestions?
Oh and I'm going to upgrade from my OP3 so really looking forward to having the new phone.
Go for the 8GB one

I would say the both of you should go for the 8GB one. Although, If you look at it you pay 4K more for 2GB Ram VS the GB variant. But you are paying 5K less compared to the 12GB. If you plan to use the phone over 2 years, the 6GB may have trouble as apps become larger. The 8GB gives you a little more future proofing which is a nice middle ground.
I got the 8GB + 256GB because I have the following games installed PUBG + Call Of Duty + Asphalt + Fortnite
Also I watch a lot of 4K content on my phone (Each file is about 15Gb) and it is good to be able to store more than 3 movies.
Hope this helps.
Has anyone noticed the exceptional RAM drainage? My phone, on rest it's consumed a huge chunk of the RAM
Waiting for the Nebula Blue variant to be available. Getting a non-Nexus/non-Pixel device after a very very long time, so I'm a little anxious to try something new. Did y'all get only the Mirror Gray variant or is the phone also available in Red like the Original Post states?

Has anyone noticed the exceptional RAM drainage? My phone, on rest it's consumed a huge chunk of the RAM

Ram boost would be on by default ,try disabling it if you want to see more free Ram ,but that being said the device itself will take care of ram usage and free it wherever needed that's the way Android is designed.

Can you share the battery drain you experienced playing Pubg? In 90hz/60hz and also FHD/QHD?

I had about 9% drain while playing PUBG at HDR + Colorful 90Hz.
Clash Royale on the other hand showed about 11% drain in 1Hr and 14 Mins
The resolution is set to auto and I am not sure if PUBG plays at 1440p or 1080p (Could anyone Confirm ?)
Hai anyone bought one plus from offline store like chroma reliance digital?? If so please tell me about the offers too..
