Slow wifi speed - except browser - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I had the same issue months ago but it was gone to the next day until now.
The internet speed when using WiFi (doesn't matter if at home, at work or other places including public hit soits) is very slow in nearly every app, except web browsers.
9gag or YouTube for example are loading extremely slow...both are taking 3-10 minutes to load their content. If I visit the same pages with a browser like chrome, edge, Firefox or Vivaldi (yes, I tested every of these apps) the content loads as fast as it should.
Also a Speedtest shows the same but the download rates aren't saying, that the internet is that slow:
Browser: 56Mbit/s down, 19Mbit/s up, ping 6ms, jitter 2ms, 0% loss
App: 89Mbit/s down, 19Mbit/s up, Ping 7ms, jitter 2ms, 0% loss
(For comparison with wireless Win10 laptop: 91 Mbit/s down, 19 Mbit/s up, Ping 4ms, Jitter 1ms - same network)
App and browser test are provided by speedtest.net using the same server and the same wifi network.
If I'm using 4G everything loads fine, no problems.
What I already did:
- boot without Magisk
- Disabled AdAway Host file (including reboot)
- Rest Network settings
- tried 2.4 and 5ghz networks
- Restore older network settings with titanium
- restarted my router
- deleted my phone from my router so it set it up as a new device
I really don't have any clue what this issue can cause but I noticed this since I got the S10 in March'19 and it comes and goes frequently though all version since then.
My wife doesn't have any issues with her Huawei P20 on the same networks, so it has to be the phone.
My Exynos S10 is currently on ASG8 (Unlocked EU) and rooted with Magisk, as I mentioned above.
Does anyone have a solution or workaround for this? It's very annoying - especially because I don't have very good mobile data connection where I live (directly inside of a huge town in Germany...sad but true).
Greetings,
Jannomag

AT&T Tilt: Absurdly slow wifi

I'm not quite sure what sort of issue is plaguing me, but I'm experiencing very slow browsing when using my wifi connection. It does not seem to be any sort of network issue, as I have several computers on the wifi that get great connections. I've tried several browsers, including IE, Minimo, Opera Mobile, and Opera Mini. All with similar results: incredibly slow/laggy browsing (speed tests are just painful). What seems peculiar is that sometimes, it will run very fast, then seem to "stick" while loading a page. For example, I might be on cnnmobile, then want to go back to my homepage, google. That can take upwards of 30 seconds at times, or just a couple seconds other times. Another oddity I've noticed is that if a page is "sticking", I can often refresh it and have it load up very quickly.
The potential issue that's been pointed out to me by several people is "proxy". I downloaded and installed a disable hidden proxy program from xda, but it did not seem to resolve the issue. If anyone can help me out here, I'd really appreciate it a lot. Thanks
Is the normal data connection as fast as it should be or is it painfully slow as well?
To be honest, I have noticed slow WiFi too. Its not that much faster than my 3G connection (700kbps). For example, I just ran a mobile speed test from DSL reports through the Tilt's WiFi, and I got 1068 kbps with a ping of 213 ms. Compare that to a similar test on my desktop that got 4086 kbps with a ping of 36 ms. I really don't understand what's going on with the Tilt's WiFi. I mean, sure its better than 3G, no doubt, but come on. A ping of 213 ms when the access point is less than 10 feet away and the internet connection is wired! I know my laptop can fare better than that over wireless.
Is anyone else seeing numbers like these? Maybe its the encryption? Although, I am only running WEP on the router, because I want my DS to be able to connect with it.
EDIT: Well, I don't think its that. I tried disabling WEP on my router to see if it would speed things up. I got 1195 kbps and a ping of 226 ms. I guess that means there is a bit more downstream, but I would take these results with a grain of salt, because I still feel like the numbers are too close to call. Besides, the ping wasn't any better.
Oh, and just in case anyone is wondering, I am running the TCP/IP tweaks from KaiserTweak and I ran the tests with the phone disabled just to be sure.
You might want to try this....
-click start
-click settings
-select the connections tab on the bottom of the screen
-select the Wireless LAN icon
-select the Power Mode tab on the bottom
-slide the bar to "Best Performance"

Internet Speeds on device vs tethered

I was wondering if everyone experienced the same thing as I am regarding data speeds.
I use the wap.cingular access point and when I use Internet Connection sharing to tether my phone I generally get speeds ranging from 150-750kbps down and 100-350kbps up.
Tonight for instance I am at a location with EDGE network access (full bars) and am getting about 150 down 100 up when tethered.
These speeds were measured with speakeasy.net speedtest.
However, when I am just using my Tilt by itself (untethered) with PIE, or Google Maps, or another application my speeds seem much much slower.
For instance, when using tethering it took about 10 seconds to load the mail xda-developers.com forum page from scratch. On my device it can take well over a minute (or two) to download the page and become responsive enough for me to scroll it.
Even when i have a 3G connection and get tethered speeds in the 500-800 range my PIE connections seem to be slow like this as well.
I realize that the CPU power of the phone may mean slightly longer loading times to render a page, but the speed difference seems tenfold.
It also seems strange that if I were to download like a 3Mb file it would transfer at speeds more closely matching my tethered speeds, but HTML website browsing is very slow. Bringing up anything other than google usually takes at least a minute to get a usable page.
Am I alone in this? If so...any suggestions. If not...any explanations?
thx

[Problem] WiFi periodically hangs and signal strength drops

Hi, all, I'm having an issue with Wifi connectivity that presents itself mostly in Play Store and sometimes during browsing with stock browser.
Quite often when trying to install something from the Store, the moment i hit Install button, screen pauses for a few seconds, wifi strength indicator drops one bar and there's a notification that the connection was lost. Stock browser also loses conection and requires reloading, latest Opera does not (at least, I didn't experience it). This happens very frequently and multiple times in a row, especially installing from PS where I have to wait for the notification to show up, then hit back button and try to install again, sometimes several times before it succeeds. Also, I've downloaded Firefox, same problems as with stock browser.
I'm on official V20a 4.1.2, Play Store is v4.1.10, fewer than 15 apps installed and not all require data connection. Option to keep wifi connection active when screen goes off is enabled. I have an 802.11g router about 1 meter (3 ft) from the phone and the signal registers as strong (full 56 mbps). Abolutely nothing and no-one else is utilizing the connection at times. My other desktop PC via ethernet cable and my other wifi phone have none of these problems and the line was tested several times.
Even though I did spend few days with official V10 ICS 4.0.3, I don't recall having any of these problems.
Also, wifi indicator in the notification area dissappears after a period of innactivity, but power toggles show the wifi is turned on. Is this normal (this is my first long-term android phone, I'm not that familiar with the OS)?
Is there a solution that doesn't require downgrading to ICS or custom ROMs?
A side-quiestion: how to update play store part from downloadig .apk from some webpage? Is there an autoupdate option somewhere?
After some tinkering with router options, I no longer seem to experience the described problems. I believe that lowering the DTIM value resolved the issues.

WiFi Speed Issues Anybody?

Received my Nexus 6 yesterday and believe I have a faulty device. I have searched all over the web and here on XDA and nobody is reporting the exact issue that I am seeing. While others have complained of issues having the device connect to the Wifi, that is NOT my problem. I can connect fine and have full Wifi bars along with a strong (702Mbps - 5GHZ) link speed. Loading of web pages however slows to a crawl and browsing the Play Store is like looking at dial up. No other devices on my network are experiencing this issue. The weird thing is that Speed tests run through the OOKLA app show the same blistering speeds as I receive on my desktop but when I try to run speed tests from various browser based testing sites they are way Sloooow. OOKLA reports a higher than normal PING however and I believe that is where the problem my lie. My LTE data speeds are WAY faster than WiFi and are actually quite impressive I might add.
I unlocked and Rooted right out of the box but have since performed a factory reset (Flashed Stock Images) and have also tried a different Access Point. I have also tried forcing 2.4GHZ and changing WiFi channels. Nothing helps and I think I may need to RMA this thing.
To better explain what I am seeing it is as if the device is "choking". The load bar moves quick, then stops completely, then moves quick again and web images populate real slow. It's unbearable and definitely undesirable. I may try flashing a different ROM tomorrow but wanted to get this out there to see if I am alone.
Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.
TIA

[Q] TMO M9 Weird Wifi behavior

(Cross posting from the main M9 forum, mostly because I'm not sure if my problems are related to the TMO specific version. If this isn't appropriate, I'll remove it)
So this is weird. My wife and I just picked up two brand new M9's from T-Mobile this afternoon.
We're able to connect to the wifi with our new phones without any trouble, but the wifi is sporadically slow. SpeedTest shows download speeds around 14.21 Mbps from the phone, but 64Mbps from my laptop for SpeedTest. Google services seem to go really slow:
Google Play application icons are slow to load
Google Now's initial setup hangs at a blue circle loading with gray background
Google Music takes a good 5 minutes of buffering to start playing a song
Browsing to google.com periodically times out in Chrome: "Google CHrome could not load the webpage because www.google.com took too long to respond."
I'm also noticing that despite connecting to wifi, there's still the 4G icon in the status bar - with my old M7, if you connected to Wifi, the 4G/2G indicator disappeared. Is this behavior normal for Sense 7?
EDIT: I've tried the following, and things seem like they may be a little better. I'm not sure which is the potential fix though:
Disable Power saver mode
Disable WiFi optimization
I grabbed a spare WiFi AP that is dual band, 5GHz seemed to go faster, but I'm not sure if that's because it's inherently faster than 2.4GHz
EDIT EDIT: Just kidding. Still having issues. It almost seems like certain services are having issues. I could get to google on Wi-Fi and twitter would update, but Gmail, facebook, instagram, and hangouts wouldn't work.
Disconnecting from Wifi (and reverting to cellular data) "fixes" the issue.
"I'm also noticing that despite connecting to wifi, there's still the 4G icon in the status bar - with my old M7, if you connected to Wifi, the 4G/2G indicator disappeared. Is this behavior normal for Sense 7?"
It's normal because the M9 can transition from a wifi call directly to a VoLTE call. The M7 didn't have VoLTE. So unlike the M7 and M8, when you enable wifi calling, the cell radio does not shut off.
As for your speedtest results, was your laptop also running on wifi? When you compared with your phone, was it in the same area as the laptop so that the distance to the router would be about the same? And if you have a dual band router, was the phone connected to the same band as the laptop?
Good to know about the wifi call transition - that was one thing that kind of sucked about the M7. WIth regards to speed, both the laptop and the phones were running on wifi, on the same band, around the same area.

With my M9, I get 60 down on the 5GHz wifi band. That's the speed of my Verizon FIOS download on the computer as well.
also having this problem, i made a thread about it a while back but got no response. provided log cats too.
