I use EMUI 9.1's own App Launch panel to prevent apps from running in the background or starting up on their own, I get around 3-4% drain overnight on the P30
Settings > Battery > App Launch > Set the apps to manual and turn off the background / auto start switches for any apps using a lot of battery

20%?!? definitely not normal. Mine like 3-4%

I leave mine connected to WiFi, it uses way less battery than LTE/4G
Also disabled BT and WiFi location scanning in Location Access > Advanced Settings
Disable any apps you don't use that may be running in the background
And weirdly, my battery life improved best when I set the phone battery settings to "Performance mode" which goes against everything it's meant to do, but that's what happened, worth a try with yours for 24/48 hours to test

Going to give this a try and report back love everything bout this phone but the standby drain is driving me nuts...

!!!!!
I had S10 plus and I went to sleep it was 99% when I woke up it was around 64% sold it 2 day ago and got the P30 pro , today is my 4th day with it and when I wake up it’s always above 90% leaving bluetooth WiFi all running normal so don’t know what’s happening with you....

Went to bed at 100%, woke up and it was at 99% this morning (11 hours on battery)

Try to find the cause in Settings - Battery - Usage and detail of batteryusage. This can sometimes indentify an app causing this.
Sometimes problems are solved by wiping the chache partition. Youtube movie how to wipe cache

Do you have aod (always in disolay) on during the night?
That will drain a few percent also. I personaloy turn off aod between 11pm and 7am.

I was getting quite a bit of drain when I had AOD enabled, so I disabled it and chose to use Double tap to wake instead, however I also debloated through ADB around the same time so could have been a rogue package that I removed..

Double tap to wake will use power keeping the screen's digitizer panel active waiting for your taps
I always disable everything to do with keeping any part of the phone awake during sleep, AOD, gestures, taps etc, and with DND enabled until 9am that will kill any notifications waking it up too
Looking at the battery usage overnight, the phone logs only 3-4 very short wake events, one I know is it checking for firmware updates and could be disabled, others will likely be whatsapp/outlook

Although this is true, it's extremely minimal in my opinion, I go to sleep with my phone on 100% & consistently wake up on 99-98% also I don't have DND on at night so the odd text message or email may come through and wake up the screen

Good to know, yea I managed to get mine down to 1% drain overnight too, as good as their battery management is for that side of things, it has ruined WhatsApp, no matter what I set to exclude it from power saving options I still only get messages when I wake the phone up myself, sometimes only when I actually open WhatsApp, it's gotten so bad now my gf texts me to tell me she's sent me something on WhatsApp, she can even text me while I am using the phone to tell me that and I still never received anything until I open whatsapp
Seems this problem goes back many years with many previous Huawei devices unfortunately which means there is likely never going to be a fix

I removed a lot of Huawei's preinstalled apps to as I don't really use them, I also had the exact same issue with WhatsApp & Twitter, the way I "solved it" strangely enough was disabling them from settings > battery > app launch & restarting my device, then re-enabling them & restarting again, it's been fine ever since could have just been a fluke but it worked so..

Yea I've changed that App Launch setting many times without any luck, I found a post from way back in 2012 I think it was saying there were 3 different settings that needed changing to fix the exact same problem that still happens today, needless to say this will be my last Huawei phone, not difficult to whitelist something as widely used as WhatsApp, I mean normal messages works fine and that's a Google app not a Huawei app so no reason another 3rd party app couldn't do the same if they wanted it to

Why does not Note get into sleep mode?

I have a galaxy note, upgraded to the last version of 2.3.6 (JPLA1).
After upgrade i relized that the battery life has decreased. Then i made a factory reset. However, my phone does not stay in deep sleep mode very long. Actually it stays awake during whole night.
What could be the cause of this problem???

the best although a bit demanding way is to check with BetterBatteryStats,
you could also try disabling not-absolutely-necessary features (GPS, some data syncs etc.) to check which decreases battery consumption,
there's also Autorun Manager with which you can disable unnecessary startup apps (lots of them are set to autorun after device start, some may try to update over the net too frequently)
I wonder what firmware you're on... mine (LB1) shows wifi status on the summary screen as well. my phone used to stay awake all night too, until I started turning off wifi for the night (FYI, I shut down the cell data connection when I arrive home, so it's not on for the night either)

Mine is LA1.
And my wifi is off as well as data connection during the night.
Also i realized something wierd. If i activate 3g, Android OS drains battery more than 70% percent. If i activate 2g, then Android OS drains only 10-15%. DAta connection is on for both. There could be a problem with the LA1 kernel maybe but i am not sure.
From what i've read, while (really) sleeping, the note shouldn't take more than 5%, and that seems normal/logical to me. But in my case, it drains 70% and it seems even in plane mode, i just don't get it...

Try disabling Fast Dormancy, it does generate wakelocks on my SGN as my network doesn't support the feature.
Dial *#*#9900#*#* and select "Disable fast dormancy".
That's good for reducing some wakelocks anyway.

I installed betterbatterystats but i did not get it very much.
Should i check something or change some of the settings?
or the program does what is necessary by itself?
I think this is not the case because my phone still does not enter into sleep mode.
@knightnz
I disabled fast dormancy. But i like to ask something.
What is fast dormancy?
Edit: I checked my phone now. There left 75% battery after 10 hours less than normal use. Data and 3g is on. However i unchecked "backup my data". I think this made me gain 10 hours of battery life
BadAss Battery Monitor (free)
Press menu and "App sucker". Go to "wake ups" or something like that. Let the phone run in standby for some while before checking. I bet it's an app that won't go to sleep.
I used to get this quite often but I found a way to stop it. Basically when i disconnected the charger when the screen was off the phone always stayed awake the only way to put it back to normal was to reset the cache in download mode. So i tried disconnecting the charger after putting the screen on first ( unlock phone) and it never happened again.

I have installed BetterBatterStats. When i checked partial wakelocks, the higher count is for AlarmManager (Android System). And the higher percentage (0,5%) is for PowerAMP.
Does this mean anything?
May i ask, how many % does your note consume every x hours? Making a report with your kernel/rom would be good, don't you think? Maybe a poll?

[Q] Is my battery broken?

Hey I have just bought HTC One 2 days ago. Compared to my old Sensation XE battery life completly sucks. I usually use phone without battery saver, on auto brightness and with Wi-Fi/3g turned on only on demand. Today 8 hours after unplugging phone from the charger I only have 26%. Screen was turned on for 2 hours and 45 minutes only and Wi-Fi worked for 3 hours and 46 mins. I might also say that I did not charge my One before usage to 100% as HTC advised. Was that very crucial? Do you think that phone might be broken or I should just give him time to settle baterry better.
That's sounds like what I get. I turn off mobile data when using WiFi and vice versa. I always use power saver unless I'm 3D gaming. Which is only on the weekends.
I've had mine for 3 months now.
I've seen people get 7:00 screen time on stock unrooted.
I think my battery's broken too. I can barely reach 3 hours of screen time. With 2 hours I get like 11 maybe 12 hours of on time. Something's wrong with our phones...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your battery stats seem on par with me and the OP. Seems that only a select few phones get decent battery life.
My kernel (android os) has been in the 25-35% range,it has never been that high before.
battery life lousy
I get pretty horrible drain too. I charged it to nearly full around 7:30 last night. I took about 2 minutes of video, sent one text, and checked my email 3 times. After that I went to sleep and the phone sat idle. At 6:30 this morning, I'm down to 9%.

Wow, that's real bad.. When my phone is off during night maybe 7% is gone. Then again I'm rooted and use greenify aswell as battery doctor if that has any affect.
On screen time seems like my battery drains pretty fast too though. After 2 hours of music and surfing and watching videos I guess atleast 40% would be gone.
My battery life became horrible, too. My phones loses 4% per unused hour. No App seems to be responsible for that drain. Flightmode or powersaving mode ain't making a difference. I hope we'll find a solution for our drain.

@Racingmatt your power management services is on for quite a bit. do you have alarms.? i would bet that you either that maps location enabled or something of the sort. cause you also have NLPcollector on for around 40 minutes which is a bit much. also i would turn off GPS if your not actively using it.
@Rachorid how are you setting up your wifi? is it set to always be on? or set to turn off when screen off? you have alot of wifi wake. might be due to that. i know when i'm at home my wifi actively pings all devices connected which will force wake up my phone. yea its a bit annoying but i live with it. otherwise i just keep my phone plugged in.
if you both can get some SS of alarms i can give you a better idea. and when you SS the alarms make sure to click on the ones with the most wake lock so i can see the secondary screen that shows what the actual wakelock command is happening.

Here are the latest stats. As you can see many Google wakes.. removing Maps/Now/GMail/turning of Location (a few days ago) had no impact on my drain. The 2nd app on Partial Wakelocks was used actively.
I also disabled Wifi for about 2 hours.. no impact, too. Flightmode also had no impact (a few days ago).

The reason I didnt give you a alarm ss is because I didn't have any alarms when I went to the alarms section. I also had all locations services including GPS enabled but I just now disabled GPS but left network location enabled I'll give you a screenshot later so you can see the differences

I had awesome battery life a month ago with Wifi always on, auto. brightness and every app on hourly sync. (I have my phone since 7th of march) Sometimes I didn't lost a percent over night (8 hours) and I just don't know what it could be because I didn't install another app and no app seems to be responsible for that stanby drain. My on-screen battery life is still good. It also doesn't matter which ROM or kernel I'm using.
Here is my latest stats after 12 hours with 5 minutes of GPS use (turned off when not using)and network location on all the time with 3g/4g on all the time(turns off after a period of inactivity) . I can't give you a alarm stat because I'm not rooted.
Lithium-Ion batteries used in today's smartphones need atleast 10 cycles to show optimum power
so hold on until 2 weeks then you will get the full performance
i get 2 days of battery on my HTC One (since i dont have internet on my Simcard)
its 2G connection and auto Brightness and switched bloatwares off
i use Android Revolution HD 12.2

P20 pro battery issues

Hi
Got my p20 pro a few days ago, love the phone but have a few issues, mainly battery.
After seeing slot of comments saying how people are easily getting 6/7 even 8 or 9 hours sot I'm struggling to get to 5. I have display on auto, removed uneeded apps, have darkened colour selected for menus etc yet I can't get through a day of use (Twitter, email, internet and some YouTube videos) I do have Spotify on in the background slot, but looking at the usage settings the highest battery use for that has been around 241 ma, so not a great deal
Is there anything obvious I'm missing?
A second issue is that when using pinch to zoom in you tube in landscape mode I get a line between the screen and the notch which looks like a weird display gap and is really annoying, anyone else get that?
Lastly...in camera mode I've watched a ton of phone reviews and night mode is a swipe able option along the bottom, next to aperture mode etc...however I don't have this, I have to go into more then night mode, anyone know why that is? ( I'm in the UK if that makes any difference)
Thanks for any help you can give
Ross
Same here, Im not impressed with the battery.
Same here. Its not a deal breaker though over night
I lose 2% on idle with aeroplane mode on and then shortly using 2% drops off.
We seem to forget that this is the initial release of the firmware - I am sure huawei will optimise it further to improve battery
My phone nearly always gets charged overnight, the fact that this is now easily getting me through the day with zero scares is good for me, I'm not trying to eek 2 days out of it, if Huawei somehow get that then all well and good, but for now I'm happy knowing it's unlikely to die on me if I leave the house at 100%
I had the same issue, but seem to have stabilised it.
Try the following :
Stick to one resolution rather than smart.
Disabled adaptive eye.
Keep the notch on
Managed all apps manually (setting only my key apps to auto and run in background)
I also deleted the cache on all apps and the system via boot menu because I think migration caused some of the issues.
I'm sure mines got something going on in the back ground, fully charged to 100% left in standby while driving to work, arrive (30 mind later with the phone not used) and it's gone down 3%.
Tried the settings above and have manual control over all the apps, I kill off apps after I use them and it's still draining worse than any phone I've had for the last few years.

I get between 8 and 9 SOT a day, Wifi most of the day, 3 hours netflix on 4g with BT headphones, instagram, whatsapp, web browsing, streaming deezer music on BT headphones, texts, some calls. No snapchat or games though and facebook is not logged in.
Haven't tested standby drain yet but maybe it's standby that's killing your battery?
This is in one day though and is excessive use as I have two Instagram accounts and lots of work emails as well. I also don't have a pc at home so use phone for browsing.
How is your settings within the battery category? Do you manage the apps to etc run manually or what do you have in the settings that gets you so much of SOT?
So after some days of testing and trying out some battery monitor apps, the max SOT that I get is 5 hours and 45 minutes.
GSam reports that Android System and Kernel (Android OS) use more than 30% of the battery combined. Is that normal? I'll attach some screenshots.
What I also find interesting is that the AccuBattery app shows that the estimated capacity of my battery being at 3500mAh out off the 4,000mAh design capacity and battery health is at 88%.

Unfortunately I haven't had any luck either. I've deactivated almost everything that could be using up the battery and I still don't get more than 6-7 hours of SOT... I've had the phone for two months now, battery life didn't really get better as some people mention. I carry a powerbank with me cause when I'm out and taking photos it doesn't even make it through half the day...
Did you guys deactivate the option mobile data while connected with wifi? That drains a lot of battery while connected with wifi and is activated out of the box for no reason. What also drains battery are the two options under location settings to search for wifi networks all the time.
When I was on emui I set all apps to manual and only activated active in background and auto start for apps that really need it and I want to get notifications from, like WhatsApp and telegram.
Under mobile data settings I also deactivated background data for those apps and boom, easily 10+ hrs SOT when on WiFi or 7-8 hrs on mobile data.
I'm running force Doze app as well but that might only help with standby drain.
Oh and get rid of Facebook, messenger and snapchat if you want good battery. They are known for huge drain and there are good or even better alternatives like Friendly e.g.

That does not sound too bad...At least you're getting 6-7 hours of SOT. I'm getting like 4H MAX lately. And that is mostly internal usage! with low brightness.

Thanks for that! I've just disabled "Mobile data always on" and we'll see how much difference does it make. I also might give Friendly a shot.
Also, if I disable background data/app launch for Facebook, that will surely prevent facebook to sync constantly, right? I don't need constant notifications from facebook, only from messenger.
Also I noticed I went to sleep with 100%, after 7 hours I woke up with 92% left. That is with Always ON display. Is this normal standby drain? I'm also thinking about disabling always on display as it does not show notifications correctly anyway.

Yes that should prevent notifications from Facebook.
Hm when I charge it to 100% I usually still have 100% when I wake up 7hrs later. That doesn't mean I have no drain but I think the phone stays at 100% fairly long and seems to drain faster on low battery percentage (similar to iPhone afaik). When I charge to 90% for example I wake up with 87% or so. That's more realistic I think. Wifi on, everything else off, no AOD.

Not too many actually. Could probably deactivate some more but seems fine as it is.
My system is German but it must be somewhere in wireless and network - mobile network - advanced.

Poor Battery Life - HELP!

So, over the last week, I have noticed such poor battery life. My battery is not performing as it once did.
I recently downloaded Power Shade, so I decided to disable it (not uninstall it). It's not listed in the Play Store at this time.
I have noticed that Android System uses a lot of my battery, while my battery life drops like a rock while I have my screen on. I never have my screen brightness passed 25% (and it is usually less).
Please take a look at these screenshots. What is going wrong?

It says your phone has been on the battery for over 15 hours.. I don't see how that's considered bad? That's pretty much what I get.
Install BBS, grant permissions and check what is messing your battery. That is awful SOT

Well, I turned on Power Shade and left my phone untouched for one hour. My battery dropped 5%.
Then, I turned it off and left my phone alone for another hour and it went down only 2%.
So, that's the culprit?
I'm not sure if your battery drain is regarding normal usage or standby time.
If it's a standby drain, I would suggest installing Naptime app from the playstore. Grant the permissions via ADB, your standby battery life would be great.
I've experienced a really good battery mileage after installing the app.
Make sure you enable to aggressive doze option and keep the app out of power save or the sleeping apps option.
Also, try turning off Location and see if Android System percentage goes down.

Is this tough to do?
I had Location set to "High Accuracy" - I have now changed that to "Battery Saving."
Better?

The naptime app is a piece of cake if you have root access, if your phone is not rooted, the app will suggest some steps you can follow to allow it function properly. For the non-root method, you will require a computer and ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to be installed in the computer.
If you kept location service to battery saving then maybe it might help save battery juice.

I think I will stick with the Location setting change.
I'm also finding TuneUp Master Pro to be helping.
What do you think of BetterBatteryStats?
Later today, I can post screenshots.
Right now, I am at 63% battery left with 2 hours of screen time. (Note, much of this has been with super low battery brightness.)

Hey,
I think TuneUp Master Pro might help you, I haven't actually used BetterBatteryStats.
But I saw your screenshot, one thing I noticed is that you keep bluetooth switched on (Android Wear)?, If so then I think maybe that is your issue (I'm saying this cause I have a Gear 2 connected to my Note8, when the device is connected it takes some amount of battery). Try to use your device without bluetooth for maybe 1 day and see if there is any improvement in Battery Life and Screen On Time.
I would suggest other basic options like:
1. Turning off Location when you don't need it
2. Turning off Bluetooth
3. Turning off Mobile Data (or keeping the network mode to 3G/2G)
4. Delete useless apps, if you have apps like BetterBatterStats, I think they can monitor app data and battery usage.
5. Goto Settings>Device Maintenance>Battery, scroll down till the end and select "always sleeping apps", select apps that you want only to wake up when you open the apps. Go back and remove useless or unwanted apps under the unmonitored apps section (This option is right before the always sleeping apps one).
Also try doing a cache clear from Android Recovery (Be Careful when selecting the options):
1. Turn off your phone
2. Hold the Volume Up, Bixby and Power Button simultaneously until you see the boot screen, as soon as you see that screen release your fingers from the buttons
3. Once the recovery options come, use your volume buttons to move up and down, and the power button to select an option.
4. press volume down and select the clear cache option, press the power button, use the volume down button again to select "Yes" and press the power button.
5. It will clear Cache
6. Restart your, its the first option in the menu.
This might helps the phone clear cache files and maybe fix your battery issue.
It would also be good if you install this app, after installing goto the "Personal" tab and check if your battery health is good, mine is 91%. You should also be in that range or maybe 80%. If the percentage is bad then maybe I think you would require a battery replacement. Correct me if I am wrong guys, but just a suggestion.
One more thing, is your phone rooted or having a custom rom?, if yes I suggest to try Naptime and other rooted battery saving apps like Greenify.
If not then I think you and me will have to hope that Android 9.0 Pie would have some improvement, sadly I have been a Samsung user for 4 to 5 years, this isn't usually the case with Samsung OS updates .
Based on this, I don't think I have anything rogue going on, do you?
(Notice that I didn't use my phone at all during this time, nor did I leave home.)
OK, I have attached stats for my phone from today.
Please take a look.
When not using my phone, my battery only dropped about 2% per hour, which is great. But when my screen was on, I seemed to have lost a lot of power. I can't even get 4 hours of screen on time.
What would cause tis to happen? I barely have my screen brightness at 20%.
Does this tell you more? It shows battery usage with cell phone signal.
(I was off Wi-Fi for about the last 6 hours of the day.)
Does this show a slower battery drop with a better signal?

Chrome and facebook drain lot compared to others. Are you putting them (and others) to sleep using device management? Also, 2.7% drain per hour isn't fantastic. You can drop that to approx 1% if you tame enough things on your phone.

2% per hour for rooted phone is very bad. In 10 hours you loose 20% battery, looks very bad too. If you open the 4g you loose 40%. I loose 2% every 10 hours and i have 95% kernel deep sleep. Your System have big drain in first picture. Debloat your rom and fix your bad wakelocks with amplify and with appops. Possible change your rom and your kernel if you are not rooted. If you are not rooted god bless you, or read the xda threads to learnd about the phones. All your apps have very bad wakeup issues. This apps run all the time and dont leave the phone to sleep. You use malware bytes into android.... the linux is not windows 10. You dont need this crap apps.

Should they always be sleeping?

Exynos Note 9 screen off battery drain (not entering deep sleep)

Hello!
I've owned a N960F for about 2 months now and recently I'm dealing with extremely high screen off battery drain. Looking at the stats offered by the battery tab in device care I am unable to pinpoint the cause.
Furthermore, accubattery shows very low deep sleep time. Last night it managed to achieve an incredible amount of deep sleep of 0 minutes and drain 12% in just 5h 20 minutes of screen off time.
Screen on time is not a problem, while using the phone the battery usage is normal and I am pleased by it's performance, but it is greatly affected by the screen of consumption.
Does anyone have an idea what might be causing the device to not enter deep sleep mode? Or how to find out what the problem could be that makes it use up so much juice?
Thanks in advance!
Screenshots (the accubattery is from yesterday, while the device care one I screenshot just now):

Difficult to tell, possibility is an app in the background preventing deep sleep.
When you use device care and then select battery, followed by settings you get a further screen of options, you may be aware of this.
I have used these settings, it might help.
An alternative approach is to uninstall an app to see if the phone then goes into deep sleep

I can't seem to pinpoint any app that could cause this problem and my settings were already as shown in your screenshots

i found a wierd bug recently. If you're google account has a sync error, like gmail, contacts, messages, ECT.. it will not enter deep sleep.
go to settings>accounts&backup>accounts> Google account>sync account>
Do you see anything with a circle formed by two arrows? those items can't snyc in the background for some reason. usually because the phone has put the app to sleep, optimized it, or restricted background data access. turns out my contacts arent syncing right now, glad i checked.
use this to try and help troubleshoot if you need help.

this might actually have been it, I found a weird Office account that was not syncing (I don't even remember adding it) and I removed it, I'll update if it has fixed the issue

for me, the problem was that my Contacts app was set to non-optimized ect ect... but the googlecontactsbackup app was set to optimized. I didn't even know that apps could have dependencies that show up as other apps. (i installed google contacts to replace samsung's people app).
i went from 1%-1.5% drain per hour, too .5% drain. significant change for me since im already heavily debloated.. thanks for making me look that deep lol. this is why people prefer iphones i suppose.

Are you debloat with adb and console?
Which apps disabled?
I think that Note 9 exynos have problem with consumming battery in sleep mode.
My N9 always "drain" 3-4 % in night after little debloat but A5 without debloat and with more apps consumming only 1-0% per night.
