Note 9 bootloop out of nowhere!! - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

So let me give you a little background first. I was at my brother's house recording him dunk in superslowmo. All of a sudden, my phone freezes. After about 2-5 mins I decide To hold power +volume down and the phone goes black and goes to the "Samsung Galaxy note 9 secured by knox" screen and does a infinite reboot to that screen. The phone will not go into recovery mode BUT will go into Download Mode. I tried letting the phone completely drain and then trying it with no success.
I do have AT&T protection on my device but the only thing they will do is replace it which I'm trying to avoid being that I have pictures I want to extract from the phone.
So to my question(s)
1) if I flash latest version of firmware from sammombile will I lose my pictures? (Trying to avoid loss of pics)
2) can I use a MacBook to do the reflashing or does it have to be windows?
Please and thx to all that respond!!!

Once in download mode hold volume down and power to see if phone boots up. If you reflash with Odin use home_csc so it does not wipe your data. If you do get to recovery do not do a wipe, everything you have saved to phone storage will be gone. See if you can get to device storage by connecting to computer once your in download mode or recovery. If so just move all important files to computer then you can use Odin to flash firmware.

1) while flashing in Odin, the CSC file determines if your phones data is erased or not during the flash. In order to retain personal data, flash HOME_CSC..
2) you can use Jodin to flash on a Mac https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=20803

Okay I ditched the macbook idea and I have my aunt's computer in from of me.
When installing the firmware.. Am I going for the latest USA version which is from like last week... Or do I do the ATT firmware from Nov 2018 and do the OTA update?

We're you already on the latest firmware? If you are then just flash the latest and use home_csc

I'm going to try that now. Just look at what version of Windows I have and it's 8.1... does that make a difference of why the drivers won't install ?
This is the error message when I try "mss installwizard for samsung usb driver for mobile phones failed "

When I was installing smart switch it told me to "disconnect my device from pc"( which it read AS A Samsung phone)
But when it's all downloaded It just says connect device again but when I do the computer makes its sound and then nothing.
If I'm in device manager and I plug in my note 9 it pops up as 'sdm845' but says there are no drivers installed.
I uninstalled the Samsung drivers (even though it says failed) and I tried again and it said fail to install again

Okay if anyone Is still reading this.. If I switch up and use my Father's Macbook instead, does anyone know the necessary steps to continue on with the process? And keep in mind the state of my phone is in a boot loop and only goes to the download screen

I was just doing the whole chatting thing with a Samsung representative and they advise me to go to a place near me to do the reflashing.
but still the thing that's bothering me is that my PC isn't installing the drivers regardless.
without even thinking about my phone connected , I should be able to go on Samsung's website and download the drivers right off the website but when I do I get the "mss installwizard for samsung usb driver for mobile phones failed "

Install this drivers, reboot pc, open odin as administrator, connect phone in download mode.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this ? I seem to have a similar issue, where phone is in a continuous boot loop. It stays on powered by android screen for few secs and then restarts.
I cannot enter recovery mode, but can get into download mode. Have flashed via ODIN few times successfully, but same condition prevails.
Safe to assume MoBo is fried ?

Could be that the main storage in the motherboard is corrupted, which needs to be reformatted entirely.

Just a heads up, Google photos has free backups up to 15gb in full quality, or unlimited backup of 1080 for pics and videos. So at least from now-> forward a hardware issue won't ever cause you to lose pics again. You just need to open the app and setup backups.

All gone wrong.

Something really gone wrong for me here and have a feeling I have a brick.
1. Flashed ROCKET ROM-V19-XXLA4 from external sd using CWM.
2. Flash was confirmed rebooted.
3. Got Bootloop (Rocket Logo)
4. Could boot into download mode but PC not seeing device.
5. Removed battery for over 1 min.
6. Still no difference, the device just cant be seen. Even after reinstalling the drivers. via Kies trouble shooting.
Anyone have any ideas??

I had the same problem today, but it worked when i did this:
- Volume down + Home + Power
- Do not press continue yet
- Open Odin
- Connect it to the computer
- Choose Continue on the Note
Now the computer should install two new drivers (modem and another one), and then the phone will pop up on the computer.
Odin is seeing :- 0:[COM4]
Thanks so much really thought I'd bricked it. Forgot all about Odin A Beer and a thanks to you both.
Just a note, not sure what went wrong but I had to flash a full stock ROM including the Modem, Code and Multi to get it working again.

Note 4 Dead after Update won't power on

I recently did the latest update to my T-mobile Note 4 upon updating the phone, the phone was in a constant boot loop and finally installed the update to the device. Upon installing the new software update to the phone it began the reboot loop and eventually started up I received one text message and it began to loop again and now it will not turn on. None of the button combinations will turn the phone on it is not accepting a charge either. I put the battery in another note 4 and it works fine and shows 79 percent of the battery is charged. What can be done to get the phone to wake up out of it's current state most of the pictures were salvaged with drop box, but it did not update from a family funeral yesterday with several pictures and those are important. Has anyone had this issue before and what was done to fix it?

A few questions I would ask to be able to help would be:
Which baseband/bootloader/version were you on and which upgrade was your Note IV attempting to install?
Are you rooted or stock?
When you say that it bootlooped a bunch and then "finally installed the update", was that with no user interaction at all? seems odd to me for a bootloop to repeat and then randomly work.
If I were you and after pulling battery for 30 seconds doesnt work and holding down home+power+volume up, then try plugging it into a USB port on your computer and see if it recognizes it. Make sure your PC has latest samsung usb drivers.

All stock the last update performed was for that security hole android had on the android 5.1.1. What I mean is that during the install the phone kept restarting and restarting and then it installed the updates and went to the home screen. When it reached the home screen it showed me one text and I went on charging the phone thinking it was normal woke up this morning the phone was off yet the battery still has 79 percent when placed in another note 4 phone. I tried plugging into the pc the phone isn't recognized because it does not turned on it says unrecognizable usb device and I installed the latest samsung drivers as well I've tried those button combinations as well as pulling the battery. I'm wondering if the update corrupted something prohibiting it from booting it doesn't take a charge either when connected to the wall it's almost like the phone is in a stale state.

Have you tried installing Kies on your PC to see if it can detect it? I believe it has a couple special options for detecting and repairing corrupted stock updates. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies

I haven't tried kies I tried smart switch though and the phone wasn't detected I'll try kies as well. I'll be back with an update appreciate the help.
Kies didn't work because the phone can't be recognize by the program the computer makes a noise knowing when the phone is connected but the screen on phone doesn't turn on I can't even get it to boot up or accept a charge and the battery is nearly full given that I put it in another phone to check. I've tried even starting the phone up with no battery using direct charger as primary source but it didn't work. I'm not sure how the update fried my phone, but I'm going to be losing some important pics drop box didn't sync yesterday during a family funeral.
That is just really ****ty luck. They say there is always a small chance that flashing anything can cause epic partition disasters. If kies is detecting it but saying it's unable to connect then I'd say the phone is toast. You might be able to get Odin to recognize it and reflash the entire ROM, but that would obviously destroy any data you had on the device previously. Might look into doing an adb pull or backup but being realistic with expectations, I'd say the chances of them working considering what you've done is minimal.
Since you're on stock anyways I'd just go warranty exchange it if you can. Not worth dicking around with Odin if you are stock.
Sorry I couldn't be more help but I would take this opportunity to seriously get yourself a cloud based automatic backup so you don't have to worry about these things anymore. I had something similar happen to me and I lost all my data and now it all syncs to my ex_sdcard and Dropbox haha..can never be too sure

Yeah I never flashed anything it was an over the air update basically that went bad. The last time I flashed software using odin I didn't lose any of my information it stayed on the internal memory and was there still. It truly is sad they roll out an update over air and it bricks your phone makes no sense.

I have gotten the phone to turn on randomly it turned on and is now regularly turning on however it is still in a bootloop will not allow me to enter recovery I can enter custom OS have tried to root but it flashes and does not stick with phone for the custom recovery I'm not sure what I can do now that the phone turns on any suggestions?
When trying to root or enter recovery I get recovery is not Seandroid enforcing set warranty bit recovery and boot loop
Have you tried connecting it to kies again to see if it will repair the corrupted flash? If not, Google your bootloader and Odin flash the full stock firmware

I have a t-mobile 910T note 4. I will try kies again not sure what my bootloader is or was I'm just trying to do what ever i can to preserve the data on phone will flashing stock again delete the internal I know with root with my other note 4 it didn't. This phone was never rooted the over the air update boot looped the phone
I would definitely try using kies or even adb from command to see if you can pull the data from it. Flashing a full firmware will wipe all data Yeah so I'd use that as a last resort

On this forum I have found just the bootloader available to down load if I download the full rom is it going to wipe the internal memory here is the link I'm referring to http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/development/mirror-stock-tw-t3260858
I think I might have it figured out just need clarity on if flashing just the bootloader will do the trick I also got a set warranty kernel on boot last time as well.
If it were me I'd install the following:
Twrp custom recovery : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347792887
Make sure you have latest drivers from Samsung. Flash twrp and see if you can boot into recovery and then either wipe cache or flash a bootloader zip from there. At the very least you could pull files from it once in recovery

I would visit your local tmobile store and have them look at it. Besides smartswitch they have a program they can run and possibly restore your phone before it gets totally borked up.
This could help justify rma with Samsung.

This is what I see when I flash the root or recovery every single time. I know if I can get the recovery on the phone I can get the pictures on to my pc because I had a phone that was android locked that I did myself and rooted recovery and was able to get the pc to see and transfer files to pc so why is it showing this image am I doing something wrong?

They don't have that machine any more I use to work at t mobile that machine was a joke by the way I'll be able to get a replacement it's the funeral pictured that are most important to me they didn't sync to drop box for some reason and that's my main reason for trying to get the phone working. I've flashed everything I've been told to flash I still get the boot loop and the stupid se android reinforcing set recovery or set kernel etc currently it's recovery if I try to initiate recovery via the buttons it just boot loops

What is your exact model number so i can give you correct files links ?
For example T-mobile note 4 has 3 models (SM-N910T / SM-N910T2 / SM-N910T3 .which 1 of these 3 you got?
You can simply check your model number by pressing 3 button combo while device is switched off (volume down+home+power) will boot into odin download mode press volume up to continue there you can see your device model number on top left corner.
It will be better if you can take a photo of your device while in odin download mode and and upload it so i can see what else will require to fix.
Let me know and I'll get back to you.

What kind of error pops up ?
Do factory reset 1 more time.after reset let phone completly cool down dont touch anything .
then you complete setup.
Use high speed microsd card if microsd card is not good it can cause issues and lag to whole device.
Download wake lock app from playstore and open the app you have to click on partial wake lock as shown in screenshot below.it will manage your cpu to run more efficient.
If issue still remains you have to erase old nandroid completly by using PIT FILE and repartion your internal memory to flash fresh nandroid.
Try first the things that i mention and use your device for 2 days.if it didnt work after that you can try erasing nandroid with my guide.

you can fix this problem permanently by erasing old corrupted nandroid and if this method also fail then might your device has some hardware issues.

Hi I'm unable to connect my phone to pc unfortunately and Now I believe this is hardware problem as when I decided to get my phone unlocked the person who was unlocking couldn't connect either so he'd suggested me that it's a hardware problem and couple of days later I was able to connect to PC till today. so I think I won't be able to perform repartition my phone until and unless I get my connectivity back. Thank You so much for your help anyway. I'd definitely give it a try as soon as I get my connectivity back and will update you.

I just tired, and nothing worked out. the place where I took my phone to unlock he actually changed the charging and connecting port to check if it's port problem but the result was same until it gets back connectivity on it's own. I just changed the cable reset phone couple of times. It's not even connecting as a media device.

Reverting to CRK1

I need some help getting back to CRK1. I updated to DRL7 using the Update.zip method, and now when i try to odin the crk1 files back it just fails after it says "Setup Connection".
I don't get an error Flash
I've wiped both in the phone and in recovery
I've tried downloading the CRK1 files from two different sources
Ive tried an "official" odin and a "modded Odin"
I've tried USB 2.0 port and USB 3.0 port
I've used CSC Home and NON Home
I don't know what the hell is blocking me, or if I'm doing it wrong. Am i just doomed to stay on this dead end beta forever? Biometrics stop working in the background and i have to restart my phone to get in to it without using my damn passwords (Apps too) and my banking app just doesn't work on it in General after the update. I even wiped it and reinstalled and I need my bank app.

If it's on windows 10 that's the problem. You need to use windows 7. I don't know why but that's what a lot of people are running into.

Try a different windows 10 then because it's working on some but not others.. I had to install windows 7 in a virtual machine on my Ubuntu server in order to flash back because it wouldn't work on Vista either..
Tried with my work PC and home PC, no success.

Just do what I did an download win7 and run it on windows 10 in a virtual machine.
Finally got it to work w/success...................however, it's in a bootloop..........will reboot to the Sprint logo screen.......then show the small dialogue of android apps...........then reboots again................any advice to get out this?
I am only able to get back to downloader mode.

If you're downgrading, you'll have to do a factory reset or you'll get a bootloop.
I just want to get out of the bootloop..............know where I can get the previous version of the stock rom that I can try via Odin? the one we got in November would be what I am looking for...................I can get into downloader mode so that's what I want to try
Did you try to get into Recovery mode and then delete cache and then do factory reset? Or are you saying that you are stuck on the download screen and can't turn the phone off?
I just did the Odin on mine to go from DRL7 back to CRK1. When using Odin (regular, not patched) I did it on my Win10 laptop. I ran Odin as an administrator and it worked perfectly first time. I did unselect the Auto Reboot option. I waited until Odin ran all the way through until it gave me the success and it said Pass. I unplugged the USB cord and manually restarted. It started off in a strange looking download screen and said error. I was able to get it to turn off and went into the recovery mode where I deleted cache and did the factory reset. This time when I rebooted the system, it started all the way up.
I was able to get the Odin to work and pass......I unplugged and it rebooted on its own, however, it would get to the logo, then Sprint logo screen, then show the dialogue "optimizing android apps"......but reboot again, same process over and over........never could get it to power off. I would do the combination of button presses for recovery and wouldn't work no matter how many times I tried. I could do the button presses to get to downloader mode and then once I hit cancel, it would go back to the reboot loop again. I even went to a nearby Sprint store and the techie there did the same as me, no success. He recommended that I take to one of the repair Sprint stores since they have the capability to connect it to a computer. I ended up going back home and trying some more. Finally, after six hours of phone not able to boot correctly, I got it into recovery mode. I had started hitting the Bixby button repeatedly with either volume up or down pressed at the same time..........then while still hitting the Bixby button, I pressed the volume up/down buttons and held them both down at the same time..............then viola, recovery mode! I was able from that point to apply the DRL7 update that was already on my device.......so finally got back up and running. Very thankful I got it back up in time because when it did boot up, battery was down to 13%............if the battery had drained completely, not sure what I could have done.

Galaxy S10 bootloop after updte to Android 10

This morning I saw that I can update to the new Android 10 version on my Galaxy S10.
I was happy and of course updated directly.
Everything worked fine, the update was downloaded, installed and the phone rebooted.
And from there it hung in a boot loop.
I had already unlocked the bootloader 2 months ago, but only to flash the original firmware again because of an unsuccessful attempt to install TWRP.
Now the Galaxy S10 starts up, shows the information that the boot loader has been unlocked and then the boot logo and vibrates.
Then it goes straight off and starts again.
I cannot use the key combinations to get into the recovery or in the download mode.
How can I solve this problem ?
(Sorry for my bad englisch i come from germany)
You can try following:
Plug your phone in the PC with the USB cable. Then press/hold Bixby + Volume Down and hopefully it will boot to download-mode.
Otherwise try (still plugged in) force shutdown/restart by pressing/ holding Volume Down + Power - as soon as the screen turns off shift to pressing/ holding Bixby + Volume Down for download-mode. Try it at few times as its all about timing.
If still no luck, unplug your phone and let the battery run out. Then press/hold Bixby + Volume Down and plug in to get to download-mode. This may take some time as the phone needs to recharge a little before it reacts.
Once in download-mode flash your software before the update via Odin - I would use Home_CSC first trying to save your data.
Got exactly the same problem today. Don't know which one I flashed in november though
So how to keep (maybe) the data? flash only HOME_CSC?

Yes to using Home_CSC but to be safe I would flash all 4 files (AP - BL - CP - HomeCSC) as some people have reported their storage gets corrupted/ shows wrong capacity.
Use either Samsung 10 (BSKO) or latest Pie (ASJG). Both should be ok as you are flashing the bootloader when using all 4 files.

Thanks!
I got into the download mode.
I used SamFirm to download the firmware but it was Android 10
Right now i am downloading Andoid Pie from updato.com...
No premium, i am just a free member, so it shows me "20 Hours left"
Where can i download the latest SM-G973F Germany (DBT) Android Pie Firmware for free and without that high speed restriction ?
I think i have to put the home_csc file into the CSC field in odin ?
Didn't work for me, neither ASJG (Pie) nor BSKO (Q).
Had to wipe data, beause system nerver booted again.
Lost all my data. Congrats Samsung to this very best update mechanism. Nerver had on any Nexus nor OnePlus.
Maybe you have more luck.

I flashed G973FXXS3ASJG to my Galaxy S10.
First i tried only homeCSC but it was still brick.
Then i flashed only AP, it worked.
But after I set up my smartphone again, I saw that I only have 32 GB of storage even though my Galaxy S10 is the 128 GB version.
Then, as you said, I flashed all four files (AP - BL - CP - HomeCSC).
It still shows me that I only have 32 GB of storage

When I first read your post I thought:
Seriously…. Seriously…..
I mean, why the heck would you only flash one file (you were actually warned against this) when it is just as easy to fill-out all 4 slots in Odin? People amaze me!
Okay its Xmas, so back to helping:
‘What you have experienced is a side-effect of using Odin to flash an AP file to your device with the CSC slots left empty. Never flash a full AP file on this range of devices without also filling at least the HOME_CSC slot. It is safe, however, to flash only a recovery image in the AP slot.
To attempt to repair the damage, you need to boot to TWRP, select Advanced Wipe, tick Data, select Repair or Change File System followed by Resize File System. Your /data will return to its former size, but you will probably find you have lost some data.’
Above is quoted from #ianmacd
So, if your phone is on stock Pie (minimum ASIG), with OEM unlocked, try this to get TWRP installed in order to use above rescue.
Go here and download Multidisabler: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ynos/g97xf-multi-disabler-encryption-t3919714
Go here and download TWRP Magisk Patched: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ynos/recovery-twrp-galaxy-s10-magisk-t3919248
Now read post #2 in the TWRP thread for installation guidance…. When you get to no.10 flash the Multidisabler you downloaded instead and then skip to no.12
After no.12 reboot, boot back into TWRP and try the Data fix above.
If all goes well you will have full storage capacity again, TWRP installed and rooted with Magisk.

Yeah, I can see you have started a thread with your problem.
If the first two of my suggestions doesnt work for you then you have to let the phone bootloop until the battery dies/ runs dry and then try my third suggestion.

Hey Bro, I bricked my phone as well in the morning while updating to android 10 but I just had my bootlocker unlocked but no root on it. Could you tell me if there is any possibility to backup the stuff on my phone? Right not Im waiting for my battery to drain to 0% that I can get into download mode and try something out maybe you have a tip for me
Can someone send me a prepatched magisk ap file for HK 9730 Android 10. I don't know what I did. I just pre patched it myself and flashed with odin just like ANY other update but this time, it gets stuck at Samsung logo. I waited a good while too. Maybe I didn't have the right magisk version which is why I'm asking if someone has a pre patched that works, idk but I don't want to lose my data.

My suggestion is to download the complete stock firmware- be it Pie or 10 (Q) - and then when flashing all 4 files via Odin use the Home_CSC file to try to retain your data.
I use FRIJA to download firmwares as the d/l speed is very good.
Bear in mind, if you at some point intend to root and/or install TWRP your phone will be wiped in the process so backup your stuff before going down that road.
Hi, i have the same problem, i can't access to download mode, i have access to twrp recovery but i can't do anything, if i touch the recovery screen, the phone reboot, have you any suggestion please, to recover my phone?

I am also experiencing this issue that the OP is having with their S10. I also have an S10. There was a software update for my phone and now I wake up to my phone boot looping itself to death.
For someone that lives in the United States, which firmware should I use to recover my phone? I ask because there is like 20+ countries to choose from for the exynos G973F model
Norup58 You saved my life!!!! LOVE YOU. i got into download mode THANKS MAN

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (SM-N9600) that will not boot. So far I have flashed 2 official firmwares with Odin, and on the first boot attempt after flashing, it will show a percentage bar that counts up to around 5 or so percent before skipping to 100 then looping again. It only does the percentage thing on the first boot after flashing. When I try a factory reset from the recovery I get a no pdp scenario error also. I have tried all that I can think of and even took it to a Samsung Service centre but no solution. I would really appreciate any help I can get.
