Which Rom do you use, and why did you choose it?[/U][/B] - Redmi 7A Guides, News, & Discussion

V119system-arm32_binder64-ab-ufOfficial-nosu
I'm using this rom because it is fast and stable. Suddenly the screen touch and power button are lag-free(compared to miui). No more mid call ear-dialing because of the proximity sensor. Xaiomi mui was terrifying me with invasive behavior and permissions so I just wanted any alternative. -Truly, I don't know very much about custom roms, but I like this one.
I have most things working on this rom, but I was not able to configure microG to work with embedded maps, and I cannot log into ebay, leboncoin, and surely others which require whatever I'm missing. I'm thinking to install a "Gapps" rom because I don't really have the skillset to tweak microG. Apparently others have been succesful with microG.
So... I would like to know from other users of this phone:
Which Rom do you use, and why did you choose it?
Thank you for your time!

I use the same rom. It's fastest than miui, but not that different regarding battery, I think, unless I'm doing something wrong.
MicroG is a must, but not prodution ready yet.
I'm using Aurora store to be able to install things from google store, and used it to install Gapps browser (to access google maps) and Evie launcher.
What I miss compared to miui:
An option to disable GPS (this could potentially save battery)
I can't login to google. Not sure it's a bad thing, tho
There's no way to automatically turn off/on on schedule (this could potentially save battery).
Still exploring options, but I'm feeling very limited.
Just my 2c

Great info!
I'm using aurora, fdroid and dev sites for apk. I'm using "mini desktop" as a launcher, because after all that rooting work, letting google search bar take over the prime real estate on my screen was just too much! Mini desktop structure keeps all apps present on home screen which forces me to organize folders and have a more structured(like a desktop) experience. you can also create a "hide" list on the desktop, or display darkened icons for hidden apps.
-I also wish there were gps switches.
Mostly I wish the V119system-arm32_binder64-ab-ufOfficial-nosu rom had more access to settings in general.
I think from reading around that legacy os has tons of settings, I may try one of those roms when they are available.
-Im going to try Gapps browser to see if I can connect the maps functionality and be half/googled before I let google take over and do a full cavity search. Thanks for that info.
If I change roms, I'll post a quick follow up in here.

same rom as OP. It is light and battery friendly for me. I get over 3 days of battery (screenshots in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-7a/review/screen-time-t3962077). MicroG works well for me. I did run into issues but I followed instructions from the MicroG github repo carefully and did plenty of cache clearing and data clearing for the microG apps and then reinstalled via Magisk's MicroG installer. Afterwards the GSF id appeared on the DeviceID app and then proceeded with registration of the device. I dont use Google apps and source Playstore apks via AuroraStore. I also use f-droid for other open source apps. Also All the apps that require google maps and play services work just fine. Particularly Uber which requires location and maps. I use it daily with no issues. Even banking apps and online shopping apps work fine for me. There are however still some apps that give issue for others, but luckily I dont use them yet. See here: https://github.com/microg/android_packages_apps_GmsCore/wiki/Problem-Apps
I will stick to using this app, but I want to try the new Android 10 GSI since we now have a arm32binder64 A/B rom for AOSP. Im just lazy to do a backup of my current setup but I successfully booted it on my Nokia 8 a few days ago.

Can i get a direct link for both of your ROMS and MicroG?

For now, Ill stay with miui 10.2.6. Why? Because it just works well and does what I want. I don't expect any more, at least for now. Even photos from gcam one app flips on my card... Test different roms, write "guides for a moron" then maybe more people will be tempted if it is easy ... For now it is still a test game for which not everyone has time

I stuck at this moment at 10.2.5.0 because it is my work-phone and I am very busy lately. I need it.
But I tried 9.0 v119 (system-arm32_binder64-ab-gapps-su.img.xz)
I couldnt get it work at that moment, because wifi was not working. I will try soon but was hoping on a android 10-rom.

It was already solved in the Custom GSI FIRMWARE Thread post number #111 by mais14. Basically you use the EU Boot.img. what Boot img are you using?

For about a week I used AOSP system-arm32_binder64-ab-gapps-su.img. It was the only custom rom that I got working with google apps. After a week I gave it up for two reasons: (1) my device failed the safetynet check and I was not able to install some apps that I wanted; (2) several apps (including e.g. open camera) did not work together with my SD card.
Now I am back on stock rom (miui 10.2.5) with bloatware removed by XiaomiADBFastbootTools (and more bloatware removed by hand using 'adb uninstall' command). It seems to work for me - my main motivation for custom rom was not to struggle with bloatware.

Did you register your device with Google? Because using a custom rom with Google apps is not enough since now u have to use your device's ID and register it with google. Maybe that is why some apps didnt work in your phone. I use MicroG and even I had to register the device before i could use the push notification services used by many apps that depend on Goole play services.

Yes, I did. Before registration I got a popup every couple of seconds, saying that I have to register. The phone was not at all usable.
I believe the safetynet problem is connected with the fact that this version of AOSP is rooted. I tried to unroot it with unSU script, but it did not quite work for me. And with safetynet failed some applications (netflix, revolut etc) are not available (these applications are not compatible with the device).
The sd-card problem must be caused by some misconfiguration of permissions. Some applications (open camera, locus maps etc) can only read, but not write the sd-card.
I spent something like three weeks trying different roms and configuring the device. I do not want to invest more time in it. On stock version it just works out of the box, even if I do not like miui.

Have you tried MicroG? I hear that it passes safetynet when used with FakeGapps module from edXposed.

yes, I have. But my impression is that it does not make sense to use MicroG in combination with gmail, google contacts and google calendar (which I do use).

I tried to check it today. It seems that it removes the app completely from the device. For example, I removed the amazon shop app, and I observed that some disk space on my data partition was freed, and I could not reinstall it with 'adb shell cmd package install-existing' command. Unfortunately, in many cases the 'adb uninstall' command simply did not work (it ended with a delete fail internal error - perhaps the reason is that I my device is not rooted and I do not have enough permissions to remove these apps). But in these cases the 'adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0' command still works (see the other thread on debloating for details). As I understand it, the letter command does not really remove the app (and the app still occupies the disk space), but the app no longer runs, so it consumes neither ram memory nor battery. For me it is enough.

I will give you feedback on how this solution worked out for me.
That's a nice list, but it's not really the stock applications that I want to delete.
I want to get rid of the apps that start with "com.bn...", especially the ones that go on the internet for no reason.
Semi-related: where can I find the stock Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk?
1. To stop "useless" wifi traffic install 'AdFree'.
2. System apps are stored in "/system/app/".
User apps are stored in "/data/app/"

Configure it wisely. Sometimes the developers live off advertisements shown in apps.

1. AdFree worked fine on my NST. Try earlier version for example. 0.8.31.
Maybe it tries to update itself via Google Play?
GP kicked AdFree out of their market.
I can't help you any further.
My NST currently flies to the US for its last check under warranty.
2. You can 'Disable B&N Apps' in 'NookManager'.

Try an old CyanogenMod 5 ROM like this one and extract them from the zip /system/app. CM5 roms are gettting a little hard to find these days so hang onto it in case you need other stock Android 2.1 stuff sometime.

[Q] Installing ONLY Google Play (or replacing)

Hi there.
I recentely re-flashed a CM7.2 official.
I want to get the cleanest device. I don't want any crap on. NO CRAP policy!
So, I wanted to roll without Google apps. No Google Play, no Gmail, no nothing.
Using the email.apk for mails, Opera as a browser, and only games and performance tool.
It works cool and extremely fast.
Only one issue:
Opera can't download new apps from Google Play (play.google.com).
Does anybody knows how can I download ONLY google play? Or some way to download apps from the store without downloading the full google apps?

Download the gapps package (but don't even put it in sdcard), open with a archive manager (WinRAR, WinZIP, 7zip etc) and extract Market.apk or similar (only the market), put that .APK in sdcard and install it from the phone (or you can download lastest market searching in the forums, but Market included in gapps for GB works fine anyway).
If you want to update (remember, the version you have installed is Android Market, not Google Play), just search market-updater.apk (or similar) in the package and push it via adb (I don't think it will install directly) to /system/app directory in your phone, and then reboot. Then, open the market and it will prompt to replace the Android Market (or after closing and opening again) for the Google Play store. The Market will not update itself without the market-updater.
Thanks a lot for the quick and informative relpy!
I do have a question though - From past experience, if I disable proccess like google-framework and such that contains the login information, the google play will not function at all. The login is bound to a different application, and I do not want to install these.
Is it possible by any means to download directly through a browser?

I think there is a add-on from Google Chrome that let download APKs directly to your computer, but if you meant to install via other ways in your phone, I really don't know because Opera (and others APK) require Google Play Store installed, and Play Store needs a Google Account to link all apps (free and paid) to your account.
Well obviously I understand I need a google account. What I mean is, I want to be able to log in to Google from my Opera and download apps from play.google.com. Right now it works up to the point of the popping-up download screen to verify my device, than I click download and nothing happens.
Newsflash:
I decided to give up and partially install market like you said. Got a new vendor.apk and installed it, obviously when I ran it just closed saying that I need a to sign in on my google account but since I had no google framework it didn't even offer to let me log in.
Installed google framwork too, now it gives me the sign-in screen and after I enter username/password it simply can't establish connection to the server.
Yes, I have checked and I have both a valid wifi and a 3g connection.
Any suggestions?
Edit:
Got it to work eventually, I hope it will serve my uses right.
Edit2:
I was optimictic too early
Now whenever I try to download anything with the Google Play Store it shuts down unexpectedly and does this until I manually enter the Google App info page and delete additional user data,

Egozy, the way I get rid of the crap is - flash the full gapps and then delete the apps I don't need (Email, browser, gallery3D and what not). BUT, there are apps that you can't delete and are related to the functioning of other apps.
What you can delete from CyanogenMod is covered in CyanogenMod Wiki - Barebones

Getting ready to Install
Root your NST/NSTG using NookManager
Make a backup!!
Download NTGAppsAttack 0.5.0 for NookManager 0.5.0 (attached at end of post)
If you have a reader installed that uses Adobe DRM (Aldiko, Mantano, etc.) and you have authorized it with your Adobe ID you should deauthorize it before installing GApps and reauthorize it afterwards. If you don't the change to your Android Id that happens as part of the GApps install process will invalidate your Adobe authorization and force you to reauthorize. This counts against your device limit for Adobe authorizations (6 authorized devices). If you forget to deauthorize first and you run up against the limit you will need to contact Adobe to reset your device authorizations.
Do not disable BN Apps or reenable them before installing NTGAppsAttack
If you use Googles 2 step authorization, create and have ready an application specific password since when registering your Nook it won't redirect to the page where you add a generated pin from the Authenticator app.
Connect to wireless before powering off and installing NTGAppsAttack so that when you boot up after installing you'll be connected and ready to register your Nook.
** Warning **
I have tested this on my Nook Simple Touch. It works for me. I think it will work for you. But it might not. It might brick your Nook.
You must root your Nook using NookManager before installing NTGAppsAttack. Using NTGAppsAttack on a Nook rooted using any other method will probably break some stuff you like. Maybe even your Nook.
I haven't tested this on a Nook Simple Touch Glow. But the XDA forum talk is that it runs the same firmware as the Nook Simple Touch from 1.2.0 forward. NookManager roots a NSTG same as a NST and all seems rosy. So I assume NTGAppsAttack will work fine on a NSTG. But it might not.
Install at your own risk.
** Warning **
** Important **
Your version number of NTGappsAttack should match the version of NookManager you are using as NTGappsAttack replaces a file that is patched by NookManager. If your versions don't match things might not work when you're done. Updates to NTGappsAttack for the same version of NookManager will add a suffix to the NookManager version. For example the first NTGAppsAttack release for NookManger version 0.5.0 is NTGppsAttack version 0.5.0. An update to NTGappsAttack for NookManager 0.5.0 will be NTGppsAttack version 0.5.0.1 or 0.5.0.2, etc.

OK, I'm ready to Install
Make sure your NookManager and NTGAppsAttack versions match (see above).
Make sure your have rooted your Nook with NookManager and all is working correctly.
Deauthorize any readers you have installed and authorized with your Adobe ID.
Unzip the NTGAppsAttack zip file into the the root of your NookManager microSD card
Power off your Nook
Insert NookManager microSD card into your Nook
Power on your Nook and let NookManager load
From the main NookManager screen select More, then Custom, then Install NTGappsAttack
If all goes well, select Back, Back, Exit, eject your microSD card and let your Nook boot
** Important **
Once your Nook has booted you need to follow the next steps without delay. You don't need to rush but you need to move through them without interruption. Your Nook will be downloading an update to the Market while you are doing these steps. You need to be done before the update is installed. Otherwise when you open the Market you'll get a "server error" message. If that happens tap Cancel on the message and the Market will close. Go back to ReLaunch. Long press on the Market and select Uninstall and let it uninstall the update. When its done Market will still be there in ReLaunch. Immediately open the Market and pick up at step 14 again. And don't get interrupted this time. If the "server error" message persists try restoring your backup and try registering using a different GMail account.
Why didn't I preinstall the update? For some reason it doesn't work and won't communicate with the Google servers.
** Important **
Touch the Android to begin
Skip the tutorial
Tap Sign In
Enter your gmail account and password and tap Sign In
Leave location tracking boxes checked and tap Next
Uncheck Backup Settings to My Google Account box and tap Finish (You can try leaving backup checked but I haven't tested it as I use Titanium Backup)
Go back to ReLaunch and open the Market
Accept the Terms & Conditions
Tap on Apps
Tap on All applications
Tap on Top Free
Tap on one of the Apps and install it. Any one of them, it doesn't matter which, you can uninstall it later.
Exit the Market.
You're not quite done yet. Keep reading.
This gets the process of connecting your Nook with the Google Market servers going. At this point you are hooked up with Gmail, Contacts and Calendar syncing to your Nook. Try Gmail and Calendar out. You'll see your appointments in the Calendar and contacts in Gmail but the Contacts app isn't installed because it doesn't work on the NST/NSTG. Try Go Contacts EX once the Market is up and working. Now you need to take a break to let Google's servers get all cozy with your Nook before the Market will work properly. For me it usually takes less than an hour but it might take longer. As long as 24 hours+ has been reported for other GApps install methods. I think the installing of the free app speeds things up so I don't think you'll have to wait that long.
To see if the Market is ready:
Go to http://play.google.com - its most reliable to do this from your PC
Search for SearchMarket
Click on Install
Open the Send To dropdown. You should see a device called "phone". Thats your Nook. Select it and click Install. If it responds "the app will be downloaded to your device shortly" your Nook and Google have cozied up nicely. If you dont't see "phone", it won't let you select "phone" or gives you an "Oops we had trouble with this request" error when you click install you need to wait longer. Once it says it will be downloaded, back on your Nook open the Market again. It should look different. You've been automagically upgraded to the most current version of the Market app supported on our Nooks. It supports in-app purchases if you care. You should see a notification balloon in your status bar. Tap on it and the message should say SearchMarket has been installed. Now you can use SearchMarket on your Nook to find apps and install them (search in the Market app is broken). If you don't get the installed notification continue on.
Open the Market on your Nook.
Tap on My Apps.
Tap on SearchMarket to install it.
Missing and/or Broken Stuff
Market Search doesn't work - Use SearchMarket from the Market per above instructions
No Contacts app - try Go Contacts EX from the Market - default and iPhone themes are decent on our eInk displays
No Google Books - see this thread on Google Books[/URL]
No YouTube, Maps, etc. - download them from the Market
How to change sync settings - Go into Gmail, open the menu and tap on Add Account. Add your same Google account again and you'll get a screen that will let you select what you want synced. Don't worry, it won't really add the account twice.

For Developers:
Source is on github for my patches and build system Feel free to use any of it in your rooters or other tools.
I got the setup wizard to work with a patch to services.jar to start the Backup Manager. It was looking to populate its checkbox for backing up apps & data up to Google.
The patch is written as an awk script to eliminate problems with line number and baksmali label changes with firmware changes. I rewrote the patch to framework.jar as an awk script as well.
I had to pull the MarketUpdater.apk from a different gapps package to get a matched pair of vending.apk and MarketUpdater.apk signed with the same cert. Otherwise MarketUpdater would fail. I tried just using everything from the EPF30 package but it seemed a bit flaky in its communications with the Google servers. YMMV.
Cert mismatches may have been why I added a sed to delete the certs for uid.shared in packages.xml as well as the usual uid.system. After dozens of reinstalls I can't remember. It looks like now a different shared user id is added to packages.xml and the one the certs are removed from doesn't have any certs added to it. So maybe this isn't needed with my final selection of GApps apk's but it doesn't hurt either.
Reserved for OP.
Market is getting stuck on "starting download". Everything else works.
NSTGL
EDIT:
Re-enabling the B&N apps helped.
One of these apps must be important for the process.
I don't think its the B&N apps causing the Market to get stuck at Starting Download. The B&N use of some of the same underlying Android authentication and communication stuff may have triggered things to start up again. I don't have the B&N apps disabled and it happened to me once during testing. I have read about it happening on non-B&N devices as well. When it happened to me it was only for one app. I could download and install others. I used Titanium Backup to clear data for the Market app and it fixed the downloading for the problem app and it started working again.
I have updated the OP with this info.
Thanks, this is excellent! When I start Titanium Backup it complains that debug mode is not enabled - is there a way to do this?

Install NookColorTools.apk and turn debugging on in there?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868366
USB debugging is turned on by the rooting process but the Android settings database isn't updated to reflect it so TiBu throws up that warning. I just ignore the message and I haven't had a problem with TiBu. If the message bugs you enough you could PM jeff_kz, the developer of NookManager, and ask him to set adb_enable to 1 in the system settings to get rid of it.
Now, my problem is this: I installed your GApps on my rooted NST, made sure to follow your directions, except I was too slow on steps 10 thru 17 and got the "server error" message when i tried to start up market (it went as far as the terms and conditions screen). I tried uninstalling/relaunching Market like you said in your guide, but still got the error message. I tried using Titanium backup to clear data for market, didnt work (same server error), and i tried uninstalling market with Ti Backup and then re-installing from the microsd card that had your GApps on it--this didnt work either (maybe this step was a mistake?). Other Gapps seem to work: gmail, weather, calendar, calc. I'm really at a loss as to what i should do, i would greatly appreciate some direction to what i could do next, or even where i could get more help if you dont feel like answering my question. i promise i'll give you internet cookies for helping me! maybe even real cookies! Pretty please...

Hmm.. That's a tough one. The server error is a problem that has affected a lot of people on a lot of different devices ever since the Google "upgrade" to Google Play. Its sounds like you did things right and uninstalling with TiBu and reinstalling from the NTGappsAttack package was a good idea - too bad it didn't work. There is a lot of voodoo out there on things that might work to fix it. Some things I've found you might try are:
Try a different wifi connection
Go into GMail and add a second GMail account
Use an app called Market Enabler to add a fake carrier id to your Nook (not sure if this is for phones only)
If none of that works I would restore to your backup from before you started and reinstall GApps.
When i tap on android, nothing happens. I cannot bypass it anyway. any ideas?
EDIT: SOLVED by enabling BN apps.
This is brilliant, working lovely.
Anyone with Googles 2 step authorisation, create and have ready a application specific password since it won't redirect to page where you add a generated pin from Authenticator app.

Thanks for the update. I have added a note to the install instructions about enabling BN apps.

Thanks I'll add a note to the instructions.
No problem, also might be good to mention have wifi connected when shutting down before running this, makes authenticating simpler if it auto connect to your wifi network.
Wonderful anyway, thanks very much for your effort, pleased to uninstall 1MobileMarket and use some of my paid apps.
Is anyone able to get Aldiko working after rooting with NookManager, then installing NTGappsattack? Aldiko doesn't seem to be in the Market, and attempts to do things like a Titanium restore from another device and downloading directly haven't worked.
This sounds excellent and I can't wait to try it.
However, I can't seem to find NookManager 0.5.0 anywhere. The version I used when I orginally rooted my NST was 0.4.1. Can anyone point me at 0.5.0?
thanks,Jeff

Can the B&N apps be disabled with nook manager after install and registering or do google apps need it to run.

I bet it is a question?
You'd better make everything work propertly, then try if after disabling it is still ok, if so then no prob i guess, if not just enable them.
My question: is accountandsyncsettings.apk not used for gapps to work? It is disabled by NookManager.

I believe accountandsyncsettings.apk is only used to add new accounts and change sync settings. You can't invoke it directly on the Nook due to the B&N hacking of their authentication into the Android authentication framework and requires going through GMail to get to it. I would think that once GApps are setup disabling accountandsyncsettings.apk wouldn't hurt anything it would just require reenabling to add an account or change the sync settings.
I would worry more about BnAuthenticationService.apk as I'm not sure exactly how B&N hacked their authentication into Android and whether or not GApps would fail without it. It may depend on whether you've registered your device with B&N or not.
I'm pretty certain that NookManager disabling ContactsProvider.apk will break contacts syncing in GApps.
If you disable B&N apps after installing GApps and have a problem, reenable them then try editing the NookManager /scripts/disable_all_bn script and delete the lines that disable the above apk file and try disabling again.

Phone contacts not syncing

Hi All,
I just got my MIX. Stock Chinese ROM. Bootloader locked.
I'm having the hardest time getting google contacts to sync.
I opened up the mi app store and I did a search for 'google'.
I then installed the app that looksl ike a play buttoun surrounded by 4 partial circles (one in each corner). That installed a bunch of google stuff, including play store (which works).
There are no phone contacts though, and when I do:
settings -> other accounts -> Google
I don't see 'contact details' and I feel that's wrong.
I only have 'app data', 'gmail, google fit data, and people details.
I'm still locked so I can't install twrp to install gapps.
any other suggestions?
- Frank
I got it working - used this installer:
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=280245&page=2#pid5079888
to install google contacts.
Then enable all contacts permissions for the app, then sync.
How do you guys enable permissions for google apps ? I flashed a Gapps pico zip and it's as if the permission system can't touch apps who are in /system (it's grayed out in the apps list), but i'm getting force close constantly because of google play services having no permissions for location services

Okay, I see what the deal is, as per
http://en.miui.com/thread-233426-1-1.html
the installer I used doesn't include the right version of google contacts.

Thanks but that's the issue actually, it's not in that list, because it's in /system (I think)
I think I had a similar issue with contacts not syncing from google, I had to permit something(i think it was "google contacts" or just "contacts") in the permission manager and after that it worked just fine after a reboot

I think you have to wait a bit for it to sync and maybe do a reboot and turn sync on off it happened to me aswell
Hey Frank,
I just got my Mi Mix and i'm running into the exact same problem. I have all the other Google play services installed and syncing fine (Gmail, Calendar, etc) but i can't see to get my contacts to show. I've tried installing both Google Contact sync 6.0.1 and even latest 7.1 and given permissions to everything , even tried rebooting multiple times, but contacts wont show in the Google accounts.
How did you get it to work?

I faced permission problems on China Stable and China Developer. I tried:
flashing gapps nano
using installer
following at least 3 different tutorials for MIUI 8 6.x gapps from en.miui.com
I finally gave up and installed the EU rom.
There's one thing missing in EU rom: They restricted the themes to only contaion international (mostly Indian) Themes.
But 90% of the cool themes are in the chinese theme store and they're awesome. But it's not possible to get them if they're paid. I have MiCredits and want to use paid chinese themes, but that's impossible on the EU rom.
I had the same issue when I first got the phone until I installed Google installer for MIUI

Does it manually sync or do you get an error?
I used the v1 installer to install Google contacts (looks like a red square with a white g). I wonder if it installed other frameworks.
Also I set same wakeup privs to the Google play services.
Once I get unlock code and can backup I'll reset my phone and try again from scratch.

Had the same problems with flashing gapps, it seems flashing gapps puts them in /system, which the permission manager in MIUI fails to access, so the system gapps are stuck without proper permissions. No idea how that's even possible since apk's in system get administrative rights AFAIK, probably an additional layer of security in MIUI ?
Eventually I wiped everything, started over again, flashed the dev rom, got these 3 required gapps apk's from apkmirror and installed them manually, everything worked fine after a reboot then.
Google Account Manager 7.1
Google Play services 10.0.84 (448-137749526)
Google Services Framework 6.0.1
Google Contacts Sync 6.0.1 (Not required for basic play store functionality, but you should use this version if you want google contacts sync)
I know there are installers on the miui forums that do this for you but they look very dodgy and the less Chinese apps on this phone the better.

If you become a theme designer you can access all themes I think

I'm on xiaomi.eu already, with working gapps. But I would be interested to go back to Chinese Developer ROM and install the gapps manually your way.
So which ROM do you use and do your google apps, especially GPS work for Google Maps and can you turn on Google Maps Timeline?
Even after using the installer v2, I found I had to downgrade Google contacts sync to version 4.0.4
Then contacts starting syncing.
Hi all. So just got and put it up for sale as contacts wouldn't sync and I use dual SIM pro to assign a sim to a contact. Even had problems with that. However just come across this thread and wondered if I installed EU Rom and these apps it would work?
How do I install the EU Rom?
Sorry for the noob questions.
First try Google contacts sync to version 4.0.4
I got mine yesterday and installed nova launcher prime and works great.

I am on Dev Rom 6.12.29.
What version of contacts did you use?

Add google app to Lineage on G7 Plus

So I flashed my G7 Plus with the latest Lineage, 17.1 I think with no GAPPS. Great ! The only thing I don't have is speech to text so to get this I have to install the Google App. Tried a few of the latest version which I downloaded from apkpure.com becaue not a fan of the playstore. I keep getting an error saying "Google keeps stopping". and it does ! I've cleared caches and all that, but it just seems I'm probably missing some other required package or that it wants some permissions I haven't granted but I have granted all the network perms temporarily as well as mic and storage access. Still get the error. Has anyone else come acrsoss this and know how to solve it ? Or maybe you have to log in to a google account at least once before it will work ?
I'm no expert but could it be that you need google play services to run an app like that?
If that's the case, I guess I'll do without voice to txt. The whole idea here is to keep google spying off my phone.
Use a rom that has google installed and do a back up of the google apps u want to bring to los17 with an app called migrate.... After u install the los17 flash the migrate back up...it will delete the GSF file from the google apps so they can run without google play services

You need the Google play services. And if you want it to work, flash gapps
