OP7T Pro consumer theory - OnePlus 7T Pro (Regular & McLaren) Guides, News...

This is just my personal opinion, but I feel like OnePlus is just now testing the waters with their consumers now that they're out in the open. The 7T pro's extreme similarities and marginal upgrades as compared to the other models released this year just doesn't make logical sense for the price points. I think it's simply a consumer experiment made intentionally by OnePlus just to "feel out" where they're at with their customers. If a lot of people pay for "something new" with minimal changes, OnePlus knows how to tweak their sales scheme to target the flagship industry. My advice to everyone would be to hold off, don't spend money on the 7T pro and just go with the 7T. If you want to keep OnePlus 8 sales prices down I would highly suggest this.
OnePlus will likely keep coming with future pro models, but I feel like it's a bit early in the game and highly unlikely that they will continue to manufacture 4 models a year. So what you don't want to do is go buy the 7T Pro, show them that you're willing to pay that much more for marginal improvements and then give them the green light to go full blown with the ridiculous priced flagship OEMs. What you want to happen is for the Pro variants to be just as good as the 7 generation were. What you don't want to happen is for OnePlus to realize how impulsive people can be and then they skimp on the regular (8) and T (8T) models so that they can wait to pack all major upgrades into one 1100 dollar phone. Ideally you want 3 releases, the regular model (#), the T model (#T) and the Pro model and you want the price points pretty much where they fall with the current 7 generation with the exception of the 7T pro. I think it would be very smart to not buy the 7T pro.

I bought the 7T Pro at the pop-up event and I'm truely loving it. I was already in love with the 7 Pro because of it's display, but did not get it because I had just bought the 6T few months earlier in January. I decided I'd rather wait 6 months and see what the 7T Pro would end up like. I'm a big OnePlus fan since the very beginning, being one of the first few to get a OnePlus One. So I already knew that waiting for the upgraded T-model was most often worth it.
Off course while watching the launch event live I got really disappointed to finally find out I waited 6 months for no noticable changes. (Something I'm not used to from OnePlus, knowing them since, and owning one of the first, OnePlus One.) And that compared to the 7T, the only NOTICABLE difference that's ''Pro'' is an edge-to-edge display wich will cost you €160 extra.
But coming from a 6T, as soon as I finally got the 7T Pro and used it for some time, that disappointment was quickly forgotten.
I think the only people who will buy the 7T Pro are either: -really loving the edge-to-edge display
-smartphone/Android enthusiasts
-power users
-not informed about the minor differences with the 7T, thinking ''the more it costs, the better it is''.
-Well aware of the differences and still want to pay extra for whatever personal reason I couldn't think off.
But the average consumer finds that €599 for the 7T is already expensive enough for a phone and won't even think about paying €160 extra for the Pro model.

But.. I want a 1100 dollar device with EVERYTHING.. I picked a OnePlus phone because of software, not price.

Enjoy your new toy!

I don't know if it's different in other countries, but here in Germany the 7T is only available with 128GB and not with 256GB like the 7T Pro. For me these additional 128GB ARE another NOTICIBLE difference between 7T and 7T Pro. And when I look at other brands like for example Apple, they charge 100€ extra for REALLY just additional 128GB in the iPhone 11. So compared to this offer the 160€ for 256GB instead of 128GB, notch-less design, higher resolution screen, bigger battery etc. are not a really bad offer.
Yes, the 7T is a great phone with a nice price, but in my opinion the 7T Pro is too!

This is my primary reason. Never will own a phone with a notch. Maybe US will get the Pro. OP is playing games with network exclusivity.

Yep, I left Pixels because of their big ridiculous notches & bezels!

I'm waiting for McLaren edition and already pre-ordered, and 7T Pro is first phone which i'd like to buy since my Nexus 6 in 2014, so that theory with sales, i'll pass it, OP 8 on leaked photos have punch hole, that's a big nono for me, and i has OP7 Pro hands-on for couple hours and really like it, so i think you must listen to your heart and if you found your eyecandy, go with it!

Well keep in mind another potential future candidate will be (being that OnePlus continues to buy displays from Samsung) the under display camera that is now being marketed to come possibly with the Galaxy S11. Of course that probably means two more generations away for OnePlus, but that's the candy.

I can be wrong, but read somewhere that S11 will still have punch hole, and nextgen in 2021-2022 will be totally without bezels. And to be honest, i'm not excited about phones nowadays, back in time i was absolutely crazy about any bleeding edge feature in every phone/electronics, in 2019/2020 phone is utility, but mclaren is at least beautiful with this accents and carbon/alcantara instead psychodelic samsung back (b!#ch please), and apple unisex "must like everyone" boring design not for me

I think Google is 1.5 years behind the market and I still do not understand why people still buy Pixels. They are like a left behind iPhone basically.
I would just fire Pixel's design team and start anew.

True, they only have one release a year, so always behind. They have a different one making the phone every year, so always 1st generation!

The real issue is people buying phones every year / 6 months.
I've bought the 7T Pro on Tuesday and is my fourth android phone since 2010, upgraded from a Moto X Style from 2015 running Lineage 16.
The borderless and notchless display is great although I'm not really a fan of curved edges but hey, it was either this or the Mi 9T Pro / Redmi K20 Pro.
I didn't go for the 7T because of the notch (I hate notches) and the back camera module is not pleasant to see.
I've seen the leaks of OP8 and punch hole cameras are not my thing.
I think launching devices twice a year just makes the early buyers frustrated and they add nothing new, actually It's getting quite difficult to add new hardware features to these devices and some of them are niche things that most people will use for 5 minutes and that it.
In the end people just tend to want the latest thing even if it brings nothing new, unfortunately, just look at the iPhone, good performance but the "new" features are things android had for years, yet people still buy them like bread.

true, its only the aesthetics for the mclaren and i waited for black friday to catch it, else for the price tag i would have got any of the high end OEMs in the market
OP used to have decent price range which is not the case anymore, its a shame.

I ordered a Oneplus 7T Pro when I saw the first pictures of the coming OP8 with punch-hole. I don´t like it either. I was coming from a Oneplus 5T, so I don´t change the phone every year. I think the big camera module on the 7T will make the phone less durable.

@kadopt
I just got the 7T pro too when I saw the 8. I'm upgrading from a 3T. Everything is great, but the curved screen is bothering me so much I'm considering returning it and sticking to my op3t even though it's 4 years old. The glare I can work around, but it distorts the image at edges, how do you live with that? Most display reviews barely mention it. I'm really on the fence about this, not sure what to do. Can't find a phone exactly like the 7T Pro but with a flat display. Does anyone have any alternatives they could recommend?
@anupritaisno1 and @Nezorflame you both went from a 3 to a 7 pro too right? Any thoughts?
All these gimmicks, punch hole, notch, curved.. sigh just give me a flat normal display. @nvertigo67 @BillGoss any thoughts on newer phones or curved edges? I read your post from a while ago on keeping your op3 billgoss. I've been on NLOS 16 and LOS 17 for too long to settle with OOS (although it's usable), but luckily there seem to be fastboot flashable ROMs even though a working TWRP isn't available yet for all the Android 10 changes like dynamic partitions.
The only other thing about the hardware that bothered me was no headphone jack, but I got the bullets wireless v2 for free with the phone. As for software, by far the most annoying issue is the back gesture which interferes with pulling out the sidebar. Not to mention most videos don't even use the full display.
As for the durability of the camera module, I think moving parts (pop up camera on the 7T pro) over the size seems more likely to fail sooner, in theory. Although apparently OP tested it and rates it for 300,000 cycles.

@knpk13 hello there.
To be honest with you, I'm really OK with the curved edges (I've owned Samsung Galaxy S6 edge before, so it's not my first curved display) and don't mind the slight distortion (which I actually don't notice much when looking at the display).
Since I own the 7 Pro, I have 100% of the screen for myself, combined with the fullscreen gestures it's an absolute beauty. I like the motorized camera solution as well, and since I absolutely despise the cutouts, it's my only option. I barely use the front-facing camera at all, would actually prefer to have a phone without a front-facing camera at all, but alas
So in terms of the display I can't complain.

Hm, I guess it's my first curved display and it the distortion really stood out. I'll give it a few more days. As for the camera module, I'm actually happy with this solution, I was replying to the person I quoted. I don't use the front camera much either, so as long as it lasts a few years I'm ok with it.

My views on new phones are:
- flagships are way too expensive. My 3T is about half the price on the 7T Pro. So I'm expecting to go with a mid-range phone for my next one (hopefully still a few years away)
- I don't have any issues with bezels. Esthetically a bezel-less screen is appealing, but functionally it's not significant (remember, these are my personal views)
- I don't like the size of the newer phones - too tall and too narrow. My sweet spot is between 5" and 6" and I like 16:9. I read a lot and prefer a format that is book-like.
- I don't see the point of curved screens. After all, I hold the phone by its sides and I don't want that to register as a screen touch. Go flat screens!
- And my key requirement is that I must be able to run a custom rom (I prefer LineageOS) because that significantly increases the life of security patching and Android updates. Vendors rarely go past 2 years support.
At this point I have no idea what phone I'd buy if my 3T died.

I know right? I like the 3T a lot. Didn't even want a new phone; wanted a tablet (very helpful for my sheet music and multimedia consumption and reading; I barely use any actual "phone" features) but couldn't really find any good ones other than apple or Samsung which are both really locked down. So I went for the biggest phone screen I could find. The 7T pro is somewhat usable for sheet music so I'm glad about that.
I was considering the Redmi K20 Pro (its called the Mi 9T Pro globally), Asus ROG 2, and the regular OP7T, all of which are around 40% cheaper than the OP7T Pro in my current region. The funny thing is in my region the 7T pro is still half the price of any Samsung or apple flagship lol. Was a nightmare to choose. As of right now, I think those are the devices that are closest to what you want. (The Asus should have custom ROMs soon as I heard Android 10 source just came out and devices just got sent to devs heard)
You could consider the Asus Zenfone 6 too I think. I do hope a nice flat screen device (no notch, hole, curves or anything) comes out soon; Sony might be the only hope. About accidental palm touches on the curved edges, I've actually never had any issue with that at all (it's not an extreme waterfall display unlike some other devices). No touch issues, just mostly miffed by the image distortion, and a little by the glare.
Edit: after using some of my heavier applications on the 7T Pro, I noticed that it uses around 6 of the 8gb of ram and keeps apps in memory and everything runs smoothly. My 3T barely uses 2 of 6gb and doesn't keep apps in memory, weird.

Anybody Grab One of These After a Pixel XL?

So I made an expensive mistake, thinking that I could live with a locked down device and grabbed a Pixel XL through VZW and I've reached a point where my inner flashaholic is screaming for his fix. I am considering other devices and am curious if there is anybody here with a 3T that had previously had one of the Pixels, and their personal opinions on how each device stacked up against each other.
I haven't got a Pixel, but I've used it extensively through work (I'm a web developer, so we used various devices for testing websites with).
The camera is much better on the Pixel, but otherwise the OP3T is just simply better. More RAM, same CPU, more storage (at least, cheaper) which is as-fast, same GPU. Overall better performance (as seen in benchmarks). And, it's unlockable and customisable. It's also brick proof (software brick, not house brick!). So is the PIxel, but your VZW is locked down as you know.
I just traded my pixel XL for a 3t a few hours ago. Time will tell. Will come back to update possibly. Camera is absolutely noticable.
Returned my Pixel for a 3T, too. IMO, the blazingly fast 3T is superior in every way except camera. All I want in a phone camera is for it to take good still shots. Couldn't care less for all the advanced crap. 3T's camera is good enough for me. A 1440p screen would be nice, but 1080p works. I also use an iPhone 7+, so am used to the screen size/pixel density.

It makes me wish the camera had the same tech as the flagships because i wouldn't upgrade my phone for anything. I have a feeling oneplus will start making flagships not flagship killers though because lets face it the 3t is like 90% there already. The should release a 5T and 5B (budget), T for people like me who want the best available but don't want to go to samsung, and the B for people who just love the drastically cheaper price and quality phone which is also me .
See it's funny as I was looking to go the other way. Get a Pixel as I tend to change my phone every six months or so. I loved having the pure Android phones with the latest OS.
Are the Pixels difficult to unlock and root? I assumed they'd be as easy as OP3T. I think sometimes I forget how decent the OP3T is! Ian already thinking of getting the Xiaomi mi6 plus until the OP4/5 is released.
The 1080 pentile display on the 3T kills me, I hate it. Apart from that and the poor camera it's better than the Pixel.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
The display on the 3T is fine and pentile isn't an issue at all. Also 1080p is just fine and looks sharp. High res screens on phones look silly and are barely noticeable. They also consume more resources to run.

Honestly, it's a pain. TWRP is not reliable. There are a few versions but none can do backups or restore. Basically when something happens you need to plug it in and ADB and/or fastboot. Both SU and magisk (unofficial only) can also get aggravating.
OT while the 3T is fast and is great in many ways. I decided to list mine this week. The camera can get rough as I have a nearly full blurry album from the other night.
Thinking about waiting a month or 2 or diving straight to the Mate 9, still undecided.

My OP3T is now on EBay. I was gonna hop to Xiaomi Mi6, but there doesn't look like a plus version now - and I don't want 5.15", so maybe not. Perhaps the OP5?
I would like to try something else. Huawei seems kinda expensive for what it is.

I wouldn't hold my breath for OP5. My bet is that OP5 shipments will be a nightmare. Way worse than previous shipment issues of OnePlus devices. Leaks are saying that OP5 will come with Snapdragon 835. Samsung already reserved the first batches of 835 making even traditional OEMs to have hard times to get their hands on new SoC.

I'll take it back - the Huawei phones for what you get is a lot more powerful than what is out there. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro is particularly good value stacked against the Pixel/Samsung S8 or iPhone 7 Plus.
However, bang for your buck the Honor 8 Pro/V9 seems to be very good value for money.

OnePlus 5 Appreciation Thread

With all this hate around OnePlus 5 (jelly-gate (mine has none altough jelly-boys say I am scrolling it wrong ->here's my video -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdmDZm-8K8E&t=1s), wifi drops, faked benchmarks, iphone clone, no ois..) I wanted to post my own thoughts and findings regarding OnePlus 5 and why I find it currently to be best phone for the money. I have been a “phone-whore”* ever since Galaxy S6 and I have finally found the one I like the most, taking into account that every phone, OS has its flaws and there’s no perfect phone.
I certainly qualify as a phone whore since in last 3-4 years I’ve had 8 different phones – Nexus 6P, Sony Xperia Z3, Galaxy S6, Xiaomi Mi5, Iphone 7 plus, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, Galaxy S8 (2-3 week testing period, therefore I don’t count it as part of “8”) and now OnePlus 5. Here's the list of things I find to be the most crucial for me when deciding on a new phone/ or whether I should stay on the one I have -> 1. Fluid performance, which includes bloatware free OS with actually useful features like Gestures, which the OOS has), 2. Lightweight with screen size of ~5.5", 3. DT2W, 4. Dedicated Capacitive buttons (back and recents), 5. Above avg battery life, 6. Support.
So here are my main takeaways considering its price and place in the market:
1. Cheapest Snapdragon 835 equipped phone in the market;
2. Decent camera which has its flaws but is still very capable of taking awesome shots;
3. Equipped with probably lightest android based OS – OOS, which is full of neat features such as DT2W, DT2S, gestures, button customizations and so on;
4. Great support with timely updates – I haven’t had a android phone which is updated almost as fast as google based phones (Pixel, Nexus);
5. Dash charging is best in the market;
6. Great fluid performance throughout with no lag;
7. Very comfortable for 5.5" phone (only flaw that its super-slippery!) and although the back cover is copy-pasted iPhone 7 plus, I find it much more comfortable to hold and operate in one hand. iPhone 7 plus is a bulky as hell and impossible to operate in one hand even if you have MKBHD type of hands;
8. Lightest 5.5 inch phone in the market at just 153gramms <- this one is actually very crucial for me, since I wear a suit 5/7 days a week and larger phones like iPhone 7 plus, because of its bulk and weight, changes the complexion of the suit jacket and how it sits on you, so to say .. it might sound funny, but its true With OP5 I don’t feel like I am carrying ½ ipad in my jackets pocket;
9. Great battery life for 5.5” screen (~5-6hours of SOT on stock kernel in mixed usage (whatsapp, youtube, chrome, Spotify, bt and sync always ON and location ON with waze), mainly because they are sticking to 1080p, which is more than enough for such screen size.
10. True Premium feel - its a rare feature. I would say that of all phone I have had only few that actually had premium feel - problably all iphones, xperia z3 and none of the galaxies which all feel plastic to me.
With all that said, in my honest opinion, I find OP5 to be the best phone to spend 499 EUR – 559 EUR on, but it ain't perfect.
Agreed with most of it, but not sure of 'smooth' performance. While it seems smooth in almost all tasks, turning on GPU profiling from Developer options do show lots of frame drops all over. Check my other thread on this issue.
The Xiaomi Mi6 is probably the cheapest Snapdragon 835 phone on the market. For the rest I agree with you
1. Cheapest Snapdragon 835 equipped phone in the market; Mi 6 for example say hi, aside others but with offers.
6. Great fluid performance throughout with no lag:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/frame-drops-hell-t3631942
Good to see that, at least, there are some happy customers .

For me, its the cheapest sd 835 based phone, since I cant get mi6 for the retail price because of local VAT being added when imported into LV + custom tax is being applied. Cant comment on the gpu/frame drop issue..
Addded one more point that I find crucial..

Hi, if you are from Latvia you can find stock of Mi 6 in Europe without customs, the VAT being inside Europe doesn't matter. Look at https://www.kimovil.com Search for Mi 6, 418 € 64 Gb, 487 € 128 Gb continental stock. For example the unlocked S8 dual sim now cost 570 € in Europe continental stock in global central, etc.

To be honest I am ever going to buy xiaomi phone. When I bought mi5 (with all taxes and shipping I paid about 500eur for it) I was quitte dissapointed when I actually got it - i felt a bit cheated since the build quality was one of the worse I have expierienced (maybe the ceramic one was better) - very plastic and easy to get scratches all over the place. Actually I thought this would be my last true china phone, but oneplus 3 made me a believer again - i was stunned actually that a phone (op3) so cheap felt so premium in hand build quality wise and OP5 continues in the same direction and although its super-slippery I have decided to use it without a case just because I love how it feels in hand and I dont want to hide this beast in a case. IMO, they shaved, if i can say so, OP3T design and made it rounder/slimmer although in mm the difference is not that huge.
And so what if its an iphone clone..iphone is in a league of its own in respect of design and if someone like OP takes their design and improves on it (takes away the bulk, the weight and makes it (5.5" size phone) very usable in one hand) I say take my money my chinese brothaaas
The oneplus 5 is my 24th or 25th phone in the past 3 years and I have to agree with the OP on this one. All things considered bang for buck. It doesn't get any better on this side of the pond. ?
Only thing i didn't like is that I can't use any 3d party camera app to take raw pictures as they all comes back with a pink tint.
Other then this, I'm pretty happy with the phone.
what i was feeling to share about 1+5 is beautifully shared by you my friend...i purchased first one plus mobile just waiting for dual camera launch by one plus earlier i was fan of Mi product whatever launched in INDIA but recently they decided for mid and lower price launch in indian market so i said bye to them but still i am fan of MIUI interface....

Lol. I usually have 2 phones simultaneously and I have a phew repeats. The s7 edge (thanks to the note 7) the pixel and pixel xl, the iPhone 6s/plus, 7 /+, the note 5 {32gb/64gb) the note 7 while we're at it. My iron man is my 2nd s7 edge for four months and my minute man is the LG G6 which lasted two days. Coming up next are the essential, the note 8,the iPhone 8 and the Pixel 2. Yeah man I'm a phone junky for real. ?

Same here. I am always eager to test out new phones, so if I stick with something its gotta be close to perfect and it started with OP3T (the "max 3 month and the get a newever one" spell was broken . :laugh. I don't think I'll ever go back to an iphone though unless its something uber-revolutionary, since no matter what they do I find iOS to be very limiting and only good on iPads where all you do is watch movies and browse mail/internet. I need those dedicated capacitive buttons for recents and back, I need that freedom with customisation, attachments, transfers and so on, and that one button thing no matter the overall somewhat smooth operation seems like a slowed down expierence no matter how used to it I eventually get. I quite easily ditched my iPhone 7 plus because of its weight and bulk..

You're preaching to the quire brother. My longest stint with the iPhone since I left iOS and my iPhone 4 behind, was 10 days with the iPhone 7 plus and shortest was 2 days with the iPhone 7, the LG G6 beat it out by like half a day. Lol. I just buy whatever is new and premium regardless of iOS and Android. I don't particularly like iOS but I'm not one to talk out the side of my mouth so I have to be able to tell the fan boys/girls at work why their iPhone sucks ??

To stay on topic though, I love the one plus. It made me notice the subtle lag in my s8 plus as I go back and forth. Oneplus 5 is my week phone paired with my Huawei watch and I rock my s8+ and gear s3 on the weekend. When I take more pictures. Which is just about the only thing that the s8 has got on the OP5.

You keep your phone pristine, and you save some money & so when your sell your phone & your 200 saved and your upgrading. You can save 200 in 6 months right?
Ok, so after a couple of weeks of using OP5 not much has changed. I stand by the points I have made and have grown accustomed using this phone even without a case. I simply like its design and premium feel too much for it to be cased although my back-ordered Karbon protective case came 1 week after I got the phone. I will cope with the consequences if it do falls, but as I said already – IMO, the copy paste design (back) is made so awesomely (thinner and lighter) that it simply must be displayed around Although sometimes camera shots need to be retaken to get that perfect shot, I find portrait mode to be at better state than it was on my iPhone 7 plus at the launch. There's room to improve but I already like what I get out of the camera a lot.
My OP5 has been running great on FreedomOS 1.X [7.1.1][OOS][[STABLE][SAFETYNET ✓] with default kernel (avg. SOT 6h-8h more hours is in those sessions where there’s a lot of youtube playback..usage pattern -> chrome, whatsapp, gmail, bt audio (spotify through bt to bt headphones), waze with Sync, BT Always ON and Location only when using Waze)). I find FreedomOS to be the best custom rom as it’s the closest to stock, but then again it (1) allows you debloat as much as you wish, (2) it has built in Viper4Arise and (3) AdAway. Must have for me is also [v4.1] Ozone - A substratum module for OOS for center clock and other neat visual details.
I purchased a OnePlus 5 on swappa. Almost didn't because of what some were saying about it. Glad I did. But still have a Galaxy S8. Have to sell one, but can't decide which one. The op5 has better Bluetooth, WiFi, and cellular, signal. But I work outside, and the S8 gets brighter, and has water resistant. Didn't expect the decision to be so hard. There are things that I really like about both. Maybe list them both, and see which sells 1st. ?

Complex devices with multiple feature sets (phone, camera, computer, GPS, physical, low cost, etc.) necessarily have inherent compromises. Add to that the diverse set of needs and priorities from a potentially massive customer base. The result is a product that can't possibly be perfect for all users and all uses, no matter the price point. I'm quite happy with the choices, tradeoffs and compromises that OnePlus made.
About the only feature I miss on the OP5 is the rubbery back surface on the Nexus 5 that it's replacing. The OP5's back, while it may look nice, is almost as slippery as an eel. If I believed in conspiracy theories I'd speculate that they did it intentionally to maximize the number of new OP5 phones they can sell to replace dropped ones

Reasons why I bought 7 pro S10 plus owner

Where do I start with this, well let's start with my S10 plus 512gb version as that was my daily driver since launch. For me that's a seriously long time to stay with the same phone. It still is top notch, pardon the punt.
I never thought I would leave my favourite phone for so many reasons on the shelve to pickup the cheaper Oneplus.
The following are the reasons why I'm currently holding on to Oneplus 7 pro, the features which I most impressed with:
1. QHD 6.67" amoled screen, vibrant big and bright all screen. Nearly as vibrant as Samsung's screen.
2. Camera best Oneplus have produced. Images sharp with good detail, really impressed. Obviously not as good as Samsung's but for me good enough. I'm not a massive picture taker or selfies person.
3. Loud dual speakers, again this is top notch. Not as full or rich sound as S10 plus but it's darn close. Another surprise.
4. Triple SSS performance (coin that one) - Super smooth speedy performance. No strutting or freezing experienced yet.
5. Near stock firmware with a few Oneplus touches.
6. Quick updates to latest Android software.
7. Pop up camera prefer it over the hole in the screen, use it unlock phone as it's cool.
8. That damn refresh rate, boy ow boy is it smooth. This has completely spoilt me, it's fluid. This was always missing in android phones when comparing to iPhone. It's not perfect but it's brilliant.
It's pricey but when I consider how much other flagships are selling for its value for money.
I would pick this phone over every other phone even though it doesn't have wireless charging and waterproof ratings and only 256gb storage. Anyone overly reliant on these features then this phone isn't for you. Fortunately I'm not and I'm sticking with it for as long as I can.
So far I haven't missed my s10 plus and I'm glad Oneplus took this flagship route too. And I'm glad they've given people choice of going premium or the cheaper version.
Any questions give me a shout.
totally agree with everything you wrote!
This is my first day using this phone, also switching from the s10+ 512
Also I have come from the S10+ 8/512gb Ceramic White, whilst I very much enjoyed my experience, and Samsung produced a solid device.
The user experience is the selling point for OnePlus, it is simply untouched at this point, it's a perfect blend if you will.
I'm not saying I had any issues with my S10+ it was smooth, and OneUI is a remarkable improvement. However there was 4 Solid reasons for me to switch.
1)The 90htz all screen display, now I have experienced 90htz with the R.O.G and it's something I very much appreciate, also an uninterrupted screen, (the punch hole is not bad) but having the Find X and Next previously I grew to appreciated (no interruptions).
2)30w Fast charging, yeah this is a great thing (currently have 44w with my Vivo IQOO) and when using the S10+ with 15w it was painstakingly slow in comparisons.
3)UFS 3.0 now this was included in the "Galaxy Fold" why it wasn't present in the S10+ or even the 5G variant is Monday boggling, as clearly it can be massed produced and Samsung are in the semiconductor industry so "confused" but another reason to switch it up.
4) Software oh boy do I fully appreciate oxygenOS is clean, well optimised and has a fine blend. It's almost perfect, and in some ways better than stock itself (although it's close to)
5)ok I'm adding in but it is a great development device, still now OnePlus are friendly in this regard and in my opinion I think they are fully sensible as they learn so much from this, the development community gives them information on what we want improved, implemented, the likes and dislikes, even development that makes things better like Gcam, they learn from this. So their is no arrogance, this I like.
Samsung are closing doors and TWRP has to run on the boot partition now (not good).
So I'm not saying the S10+ is not a great device it's fantastic, it's just not quite as good as a user experience you get with OnePlus. Ok camera needs work on the 7 Pro, but I think it will get there and for the pics I take it's perfectly acceptable.
Will get my 7 Pro tomorrow, looking forward to that great user experience.
I only wish the oneplus had the gs10 plus type of curve display since they decided on a curve. The gs10 plus curves almost at the end of the border while the 7 pro curves at 75% of the screen.
I also switched from an S10+ for the display without a notch, better update support, and overall smoothness of OnePlus phones. I'm deciding whether or not to keep it as a back up since the resale value has plummeted.
Goodbye to my nice S10 Plus and hello cool 1+7Pro! Cheers
I honestly was debating whether to get the S10 plus or the 7 pro. Decided on the 7 pro and was going to think about it for the next week since I have 14 days from date of purchase to return the phone. My mind is made up now so now I'm trying to get my wife one now.
I own both the 7 Pro and the S10+
This is coming from someone who hasn't owned a Samsung since the Note 4 and has owned almost every OnePlus device.
While the 7 Pro is a really good phone the S10+ is just better. The only things better on the 7 Pro is the screen scrolling (90htz), OnePlus gestures (best Android gestures hands down), UFS 3.0 storage, and screen off gestures.
The fingerprint reader is faster on the 7 Pro but the fingerprint reader on S10+ works when your fingers are wet, and you don't need to wake the screen to use it.
I do like the size of the 7 Pro (I like bigger phones) but in-hand the S10+ feels better, 7 Pro is thicker than the S10+.
Samsung's new One UI is nothing like the old Touchwiz. The S10+ has so many customization option it's not even funny. I have found no reason to want to root the S10+ (coming from someone who has rooted every single phone they have owned).
7 Pro camera is ok but the camera on the S10+ is good if not great (not Pixel great).
The S10+ will be my daily driver and the 7 Pro will be my rooting, flashing, playing around on phone.
I have both the S10 5g and OP7 Pro. Both are outstanding devices. You can't go wrong with either. But the price difference can't be overlooked. With tax, the S10 5g (512gb) is double that of the OP7 Pro. Think about that for a minute...DOUBLE!! How may things can you think of that are half the price of the competition and actually better?!?!? I can't think of any. Says a lot about OP and what they have accomplished. There are obviously pros/cons with both devices. Depends what your needs are. Kudos to Samsung & OnePlus for making great devices!

I may be only one, but I think the overall performance of the 7 pro is in a whole other league. I've yet to ever see this thing stutter at anything I've done on it. Cannot say the same about my current S10+ ceramic or any other one I've had including the crazy 12gb 1T variant. I've had the U, U1, W, F and F/DS and most of the time phone will stutter. It was most noticable when unlocking it and going to the home screen, mind you my home screen is not a clutter fest but a simple single row of 5 icons and one clock. Then in general use, chrome would take a bit to open etc.
Then there is the wireless power share, total gimmick if you ask me. It's cool sure, but useful to what degrees? Maybe if you got the Galaxy buds (which wore also asstwine aipod sounding hot garbage) and charge them when going to bed.
Wireless charging? Could careless for it, never use it anyway.
Built quality tho will have to go to Samsung. The 7 pro feels nice in the hand and you can feel it's much better then the 6T which felt like a $200 toy but it can't beat the feel of the S10+. I've also noticed OnePlus uses some sort of lower quality of metal for their housing as I'm noticing some fine scratches from 2 days of use and being super careful with it. Never had that issue with the s10+, no case ever, no screen protector and not a single micro scratch.
Coming from a Note 9....I really like OP font and speed. As others mentioned, even chrome is faster loading. Yes the screen on the Note is much better and the gcam loaded on the Note owns OP...for now anyways, but something about this phone smoothness and speed has me hooked on it. I'm still in the 14 day window on it and thus still deciding to keep it... But otherwise I love it. Love the OS, speed, gestures, etc. The screen curve is ok, but could have been better. Look at it like this guy's.... It's better than what's coming from pixel 4....
True, the Pixel's are always behind and have a hard time catching up with once a year release...
What I prefer Samsung S10 plus ceramic
over Oneplus 7 pro.
S10 plus build quality ceramic version feels and looks much more premium
S10 plus is thinner
S10 plus speakers
S10 plus camera and video recording options
S10 plus 512gb memory option
Would I go back to S10 probably not as I'm Oneplus is almost my ideal phone. After using Oneplus software, screen refresh and triple SSS performance I couldn't.

Question McLaren 7t Pro to 10 Pro: Worth it?

I got my Mclaren 7t Pro almost 3 years ago. Battery life isn't what it used to be, but otherwise it's been a really good workhorse for me.
Been eyeing the new round of phones and nothing seems to really jump out at me. I looked at the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but that thing is huge. All of the demo Pixel 6 Pro's I tried had various problems and the 10t just... doesn't seem much of an upgrade on paper to my 7t Pro.
with the 10t, I'd be losing 4gb of RAM and getting a better camera and better screen. Processing seems roughly the same, although a new Snapdragon might be quicker than my older.
Any thoughts? is it worth upgrading or wait and push off for the 12gb RAM model?
I came from the oneplus 8 pro (which also had 12gb ram). The oneplus 10 pro isnt an upgrade, its the same phone.
Feels like it anyways.. I'd have stayed with the oneplus 8 pro except my screen was completely destroyed and so was the camera from a far drop.
It depends what you want from a phone I guess.
Coming from the 8 pro, there's a lot of comparable parts, for example the screen, the audio, even the cameras to some degree.
But there are some huge improvements.
The cameras: for example in videos, the stabilisation is phenomenal, and zooming it's more akin to a TV camera, the fluidity and smoothness is definitely something new, it's a joy to use. Tbh as are the cameras, no macro though which sucks but that's life.
Charging: this is something to behold, you can literally see the percentage increase, half an hour and you're at 100%, it's insanely fast.
SOC: performance is a massive bump over the 8 pro so will be even bigger over the 7 series, PlayStation 2 games run at a full 60fps which is staggering really.
Battery: 5000Mah my first couple of charges 11 hours and 10 hours SOT, amazing tbh.
Software: very mixed bag android 12, there are things to like but for me I need a custom ROM which are being worked on as we speak.
Looks:. Great looking, non fingerprint shiny surface, looks brilliant, nice and heavy too. Feels high quality.
Overall comparing to my last phone. The 8 pro, you need to understand that the 8 pro was a stellar phone. It stood out amongst the other 8 series devices. Was the best of the bunch but honestly besides the lack of a macro camera, I can safely say every department has improved.
With that in mind would it be an upgrade over the McLaren 7? Yes I think it would be. Performance, battery, looks and features.
Is it going to reinvent the wheel? No but Moore's law is dead on phones, you aren't getting twice as much any more, but to say it's not a worthy upgrade if you're due for one and have any other OnePlus phone would be untrue, even people with the 9 or 9 pro would be missing features that are only present on the 10 pro.
That's my opinion anyway.

I wish I could agree, but I'm just speaking from an average consumer. You are definitely a Power user
This phone seems just as smooth. The camera is currently worse (Just because I was running a gcam port. But that will definitely be fixed once I have time to find a good gcam port!
I guess I should rephrase what I had said. If you aren't looking to game and you're just an average user, you'll notice no difference. They lowered the ram for US model(for whatever reason, I was kind kind of upset about that too)
One DOWNFALL is definitely the lack of MEMC. That 120hz upscaling was HUGE for me. Especially when it was the only reason I would have considered staying on OOS.

Definitely clearer stills.. no slow Mo but for stills it's got better software, I think OOS android 12 is actually still in beta, sounds like a joke but I think it is.
Hopefully it'll improve, until then it's pro mode for me.

The OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren is a wickedly powerful Android phone which falls just short of the Galaxy S20 series on performance, for considerably less coin.

I'm sure there will be more versions soon, bit of a slow burner compared to the 8 series, but it'll come good I reckon.
No ROM as yet. OnePlus hasn't released correct driver's or something so they're working in the device tree.
I don't pretend to understand it all but it's in the post I reckon... For me Evo X was the best ROM on the 8 and probably for all the devices I've had so if it's anything like that I'm sure we'll be happy
thanks for the conversation everyone. I decided to take the plunge, ordered it through Best buy for the $100 giftcard.
I was tempted to pick up a "global" 12gb version on amazon for a little more cash. but, decided to stick with what's "actually" available to me in the US.
Any recommended cases or accessories?

You're a little late to get the buds for free, the promotion ended on the 12th April... But having used them now for a little while I can wholeheartedly recommend them, I honestly can't fault them, the noise cancellation is actually quite spooky, I'm not an audiophile so I may be just witnessing this for the first time myself but it's quite amazing IMHO.
The 8GB version I have myself, your battery will thank you for this and if you do end up rooting and get a custom ROM on there you can use a pixel type ROM which will enable unlimited back up of photos so the 128GB storage won't be an issue.
Cases I've not tried but you've got one in the box that I'm using myself, nice and slim and the phone comes with a screen protector already fitted which works as expected. Plus you've got victus gorilla glass on there.
I'd I wanted strength for drops then a ringke would do the job and still look cool or a UAG if they release one. For aesthetics I'd say the sandstone would look good.

Can you elaborate on this? or, point me to a thread? I'd love to have this and drop the $10 2tb I'm paying for every month

Here's some info:
(Q) is there a way to make photos think your phones a pixel whilst remaining on OOS?
Title says it all really. Some AOSP ROMs make photos think that the phones actually a pixel and so back up is unlimited. I think that should be standard anyway. Google makes a tonne of money as it is. I do have a pixel but wondered what's...

I'm in the UK mate...
Oh wow you didn't get one??
Here's mine.
Bit crap you didn't get one mate..I hear the charger over there is slower too. Is that to do with that voltage output of your grid? Think yours is 110v and ours is 240v or vice versa, no idea...just trying to put reason to it.
Or is this a Chinese company being mean to the yanks?
Either way. So long as the phone is the same you're golden.
Did you at least claim your free buds??
They are superb mate and for free.
Offer expired 12th April

No i had no idea that was a thing either! However, I dont think I would have qualified anyway. I purchased on the 12th and took delivery on the release date (14 apr).
That case actually looks better than the one I had to buy. All other oneplus's I've bought had cases, I think they're just mad at us Americans LOL The slower charging is whatever. It would be cool to have it but the tests I've seen only show a couple minute difference for both phones to be fully charged.

Question Is the 10 Pro worth getting?

Greetings,
I've been browsing the sub for a bit and watched a few reviews about the phone because I have a pretty great deal for one and might consider buying it. I tried it out for a few minutes in a store the other day and it feels and looks great.
There seems to be a lot of negative talk, mostly against the fact that 1+ is now just a flagship, which I don't care too much about. Nor do I for the camera or selfie-notch or whatever.
Are the software issues and such really that annoying to deal with? Are there other phones you'd recommend instead? Am I better off just hoping the 11 is a greater phone and keeping my 7Pro for now?
Pre-thanks for the answers!
It is a great phone however if your fussy, like to modify and customize ect (live for the root) then you will find it frustrating
I find it's great, once i overcame the things i hated and removed, or rewrote some bits to get the outcome i wanted. Ease of use is great, camera is 9/10 IMO. It is a good phone regardless

good phone but don't buy ne2215 single sim i was f****d
Just a tough question.
If you want a great phone with superb performance and amazing hardware, plus an battery that just doesn't quit then yes.
But if you're expecting a flashers paradise which is what most OnePlus buyers want then I'm afraid the answer is a solid no, at least for now.
Any phone I've ever had before if it's going to prove to be a developers haven, we would already have ROMs popping up all over the place, alas with the 10 pro it's just not the case, then again neither is it with the pixel 6 or pro.
I hope it's not a sign of things to come, but for now it's a far cry from everybody's previous device.
Even the threads on XDA are convoluted and confusing, especially on the app.
I'd say look elsewhere but at least on paper, the two aforementioned devices are the best that is currently on offer.
Difficult time to buy unless you don't mind last gens phone. In which case I'd say go 8 pro or the 9 if flashing ROMs is your thing.
I hope it turns around but time is ticking away and the longer it goes on the slimmer the chances.
Pixel 6 Pro NOT worth buying !
After many bugs, new offer from google : "no network" (not from SIM , not from wifi). In the USA.

I ditched the Pixel 6 Pro awhile ago. Just too buggy with the first generation Tensor SoC....

listen mate go for xiaomi mi 11 ultra i regret that i sold it perfect phone
Would the nothing phone be worth considering?
Aesthetically it's a stunner IMO...
dladzI, too, like Nothing phone. For the design in the first place. The price is tempting.
I Hate rounded phones (dildo like), rounded corners, curved screen (useless expensive creap).
khapunkapif money is no issue get Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

XDA has been terrible over the years. The search feature is so flawed now it almost seems like a waste of time to tell people to search for anything. The app is garbage now and basically was a slap in the face to users who had to pay for the premium app back in the day to get good usability.

Loool at dildo phone. That made me chuckle.. what's the price on the nothing phone? Has that been provided yet?? Also one problem I may have with it is the SOC that's been chosen.
Design wise tho, looks amazing.
Plus Carl Pei on board can only be a good thing

Lol I forgot about that, but I did buy the premium app, then it just disappeared. The categories looks like someone made a change for the sake of making a change, it's less intuitive.
Oh wow, now that's some original OnePlus pricing..
Amazing
Nothing phone price for the smaller ram/storage around 460 euro
Oled, 120hz, 6,55 inch
Qualcomm SM7325-AE Snapdragon 778G+ 5G (6 nm) chipset (mid ranger)
Can you get it ? "Leakers" say is by invite only..., like OnePlus One was...

I have an invite so I could, just don't have the extra cash ATM, plus knowing my luck I'd get it then a tonne of custom ROMs would come out for the 10 pro.
Black or white ?.. i am so racist!..

Not that they're selling it in the US to begin with but I couldn't do a 778G+ chip. Gotta have a flagship. There is a massive gap between 778G+ and 8 gen 1.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 vs Snapdragon 778G Plus: tests and benchmarks
We put Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 against 778G Plus to find out which SoC is better. See performance comparison in benchmarks and games.
nanoreview.net
I had to go to a custom ROM thanks to OnePlus throttling the SoC on my 9 because the browsing performance was garbage without the X1 core and the 778G+ Geekbench single core score is similar to the throttled 9 performance. Thanks but no thanks.
Yes, the Nothing phone 778G+ chip is a big step backwards!
If money is a problem, Nothing phone is good. Nothing is around 470 euro, 10 Pro - 919 euro (8/128)
And SD 778 is the best performance processor for midrangers phones.
I like Very Much the design of OnePlus 10R (global Ace)
