MI A2 not receiving OTA - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Just bought MI A2 from official dealer and the phone is stuck on Android one version 8.1.0 and not getting PIE via OTA.
Is there a safe method to manually install the latest stock PIE version of android one ?
Is it possible the update was removed from the servers ?

I have the MI FLASH TOOL installed but it would not succeed to install the drivers.
I assume nothing will work if windows does not have correct drivers installed.
Can I install the fastboot driver manually ? which driver ?
Btw, the phone is detected in fastboot mode by the FASTBOOT/ADB command line interface. Is that helpfull to me ?

Afaik...to flash latest pie base firmware, first you need to unlock your phone's bootloader and then only you can flash available fastboot firmware (pie based) using MiFlash tool.
Try to OTA update using WiFi(Keep the phone to airplane mode and just turn on the WiFi and then try to update). Also before updating the phone just turn on the oem unlock switch under developer option on safer side so you can unlock your bootloader later if anything goes wrong while updating your device since many people have reported that they've bricked their device during updating their device..

Updaing to PIE was successfull.
Used this guide to unlock bootloader: https://www.androidexplained.com/mi-a2-unlock-bootloader/
Then used the MI FLASH tool to apply the stock rom. First atemp failed with "write error" after 55 seconds, but I tried a second time and this time the process completed.

I hope you flash both this fastboot codes when unlocked your bootloader.
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Unlock_Critical is require to flash custom roms and if you would want to revert back to stock from custom rom.

Yes, did both commands. However, after flashing PIE via the flash tool, the bootloader became locked again.

You must have selected "flash all and lock" under MiFlash tool so it lock the bootloader as well but now you know how to unlock it so do it whenever you feel like unlocking your bootloader..

How to move to new Stock partition?

I need to understand how to update to the new Stock merged partition. Have been reading general advice in various threads that we need to flash new China developer rom. Can someone elaborate regarding how to do this and where to get this rom? Do we need to re-root? Do we need to reflash recovery?
I see that many new MM roms are using this new Stock partition like Matoxxi's newest RR rom. So want to know. Detailed help is highly appreciated... Thanks...
+1
I too would like to see a proper procedure..
This is what I personally did. Was on extended partition. With TWRP as recovery.
1) Flash the cwm r11( or any working cwm) recovery. Needed to flash the repartition zip!! Don't use TWRP. Did this once and had a dead phone. Reboot to recovery. You'll be on CWM.
2) Flash the back to stock partition zip. Choose the one with "el pierro verde" in it.
3) Flash TWRP recovery. Boot to recovery.
4) Flash the 5/12/17 miui zip. This is the ROM which merges the partitions. At this point the partitions are not merged yet!
4.1) Boot the phone up. Reboot to recovery
5) Repeat step 4. Now the partitions are merged.
6) Flash any ROM that you desire.
Of you are on stock partition with TWRP skip steps 1-3.
Good luck.
If you are on MIUI ROM, install 5.12.17 first to merge partitions and then 6.2.4 via Updater app. Xiaomi.eu version is tuned for europe/outside china, Google Apps are included in rom.

https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24415232478676696
Or you can just MiFlash 6.2.4 chinese developer rom factory image from en.miui.com.
Thanks for the details. I did try this out, am on original stock partition... Flashed 5.12.17, two times as per step 4. Rebooted but the partition remains resolute at old stock and does not merge. Am using twrp 2.8.7. Tried this twice, no success... Need advice... Thanks
The only quick way to setup the new partition for now is to fastboot flash the Chinese Dev ROM, as you yourself already stated. You can flash it by fastboot flashing it using Mi PCSuite and choosing the Beta ROM.
On my experience, after the flash I got my bootloader locked ("fastboot oem device-info" resulted in Device unlocked = false), but I can simply unlock it through fastboot without any problem.
From that point, you can easily flash any custom ROM.
Or even MIUI V6, with manual, per partition fastboot flash rather than using MiFlash/Mi PCSuite because of different partition layout; V6 and lower got two boot, modem and system partitions for TDB, while the new has only one.

Can you boot the phone after the first flashing? Than reboot to recovery and try step 4 again.
Have a look to
http://en.miui.com/thread-209941-1-1.html
there you can find a zip (cancro_merge_partition(2).zip) and the guideline how to use. For me it worked fine.
It does the repartitioning through fastboot by executing 1 shell script. Afterwards you might want to update your recovery rom to an English version.

I believe you have to use default Mi Recovery. One time flash of 5.12.17 was enough on my Mi4.

It got auto updated? So did you flash stock recovery? Or used twrp
I downloaded 6.2.4 into my phone and then choose the file to update from miui itself, and it will reboot to twrp recovery and install. After fully install and reboot. Only then it will have merged partition and MM miui. And back to stock recovery automatically.
I just fastboot 6.2.4 rom successfully... Now will flash twrp...
And made my first big mistake going in for 6.2.4 beta... It has locked bootloader and a load of Chinese **** you can't make sense of and have to forcefully bear it. Please can anyone help me to unlock the bootloader without begging to the ****ty miui folks?

First of all, if you planned to stay on MIUI MM, you don't have any options than requesting an unlock permission to Xiaomi.
If you just want the merged partition and prepared to flash any custom ROM or MIUI V6, enter fastboot then send this command:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
The reason is that when you unlocks the bootloader through fastboot, it automatically wipes out your phone. IDK why, but possibly inherent to Android's design for security reasons.

OEM Unlocking button? You meant on the Developer Options? That button is currently useless with no function at all. If you want to ascertain if your bootloader is unlocked or not, try sending
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
via fastboot. If the "Device unlocked" comes out as true, then your bootloader is already unlocked.
Ooooor just try to flash any custom recovery/ROM. If it works, then your bootloader is already unlocked.

Yeah, it might be set to true once you had flashed another unsigned image to the eMMC (or when you disconnect the battery, IDK), probably for the warranty checks :q.

Help installing TWRP on Xiaomi mi5

Hello people
i'm aware that there are guides out there, but i'm honestly not the best at all this flashing stuff, i have done it to a few phones but this one needs to be done just right!
So, where should i begin?, i reckon i should start with unlocking the phone via the unlock tool (i am registered and accepted) and then flash TWRP via that tool?
or is the best/only way of flashing TWRP with the ADB fastboot?

Your thread is getting slightly confusing so let's do it step by step.
Is your phone currently unlocked?
To check, put it into fastboot mode manually without adb:
Turn off your device. Then turn on your device again while holding volume down button.
Plug in your device. Use fastboot:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
Post screenshots.
Reboot your phone. Post a screenshot of your "About phone" settings menu.

Hi,
sorry to hijack this thread, but i also have problem flashing TWRP.
I have unlocked phone.
I have USB debugging enabled.
I can reboot to fastboot via adb.
I ca flash twrp (twrp-3.0.2-1-gemini.img 25.2M 2016-07-19 18:48:36 EDT).
But when i go to recovery i still see Mi PcSuite thing. No twrp.
What am i doing wrong? IS there some other, more appropriate twrp image?

I got mine sorted out, what you are missing is when you are done flashinh you have to type "Fastboot reboot" and then set TWRP to default recovery
hope that helps you out
Same problem for me, when i type "Fastboot reboot", my Mi5 reboot quickly and after when i go to recovery i see also Mi PC Suite....
Do you have a workaround ?
Second question, is it normal that time to send TWRP.img to phone in ADB is only 0,9s ?

[SOLVED] MI MIX Bootloop

Hey guys. i got my phone a week ago, was happily using it until i noticed the Vendor Rom 8.0.8.0 M0AHCNDI2 days ago. Decided to flash the Official Stable ROM with chinese MI PC Suite. Checked forums and finally after downloading the Official Stable Chinese ROM managed to flash my phone with it. Except for some problems i encountered while using Google apps it was running fine. After few hours i decided to try the Ofiicial Chinese Dev Rom aswell. But after flashing via Chinese MI PC Suite my phone got stuck on bootloop. Now i can't flash the stable rom back and my phone is stuck. Help Please, Thanks in advance

As you're not sure whether your phone is charging, I would suggest keeping it connected to the charger for a few hours. This way, it may eventually get charged atleast to a safe level at some point.
After this, if you dont already have ADB and Fastboot installed, install it from the guide in the forums. Make sure to uninstall PC Suite first.
Once ADB is installed, open up the shell, boot device into fastboot mode and connect to PC. In the command shell,
Type fastboot oem device-info
It should show you the device bootloader lock status. Though most phones which come with Vendor ROMs have unlocked bootloaders, this is not always the case as my phone came with a vendor ROM while bootloader was locked. I suspect this is because vendors may have a signed Custom ROM file which can be flashed using the stock recovery, meaning bootloader unlocking is not a necessity for them to load the custom firmware.
Once you check whether bootloader is unlocked, if it isnt, unlock the bootloader using the guide.
Then install MiFlash and flash the fastboot ROM
if it is locked (afaik, mi suite can lock bootloaders, but there is no compatible mi pc suite for the mix available, so it shouldn't) then you need a deep flash cable to force flash anything in miflash tool. buy one for a few dollar on aliexpress.
xiaomi deep flash cable. with the button.
xiaomi deep flash cable. with button and usb-C adapter

I was wondering how the OP flashed using Mi PC Suite considering the Mix isnt supported. Maybe he is referring to Mi Flash as PC Suite.
If thats the case he may have messed something during the flashing process. Isn't there a way to enter EDL mode without the deep flash cable? I think it was done via a fastboot command.

You can follow this guide compiled by @underlines : Guide: (17-01-09) Flash Global/China ROM, Root, gapps, Xposed, TWRP
This guide has step by step instructions on how to install ADB and fastboot, unlock bootloader and Flash a ROM of your choice. Providing you follow the guide carefully, you wouldn't face any issues.
I have also posted a guide which is only intended to be an add-on to the guide posted by underlines. This means you should already have the recommended files downloaded and bootloader unlocked. using the guide above.
My guide uses a different version of MiFlash as certain Vendor ROMs are not compatible with the newer version. If you are unable to flash using the original guide above, you can also try following my guide. Guide to switch from Vendor ROM to EU ROM
But I would strongly recommend going through the guide posted by @underlines as you are new to flashing.

Yes! You wont have a problem unlocking bootloader. Boot the phone into fastboot mode and check unlock status first. Instructions are clearly given in the guides and everything should go well providing you carefully follow the guide.
Ok i will now Wait for my bootloader unlock message. Thank you

You fixed it once then broke it again make sure its charged properly before your next F-up, like everyone keeps telling no use pc-suite, it's fixable and a free lesson on android mobile. How would you even attempt changing roms without mi-flash and adb. I'm betting its already unlocked did you check?

Finally got my unlock message and got my phone unlocked. thanks for all the help. But i'm a bit confused following the guide since i'm a noob and don't want to take risks again. First of all do i need to flash the Chinese ROM again before flashing EU rom? Secondly on step 4 of flalshing EU rom it says this:
"type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\your\twrp-3.0.2-0-rc2-eu-lithium.img
change the colored path to the correct path to your twrp file (not the EU one) and press enter"
what does "(not the EU one)" means?

You can use the TWRP RC2. This version has been confirmed by many to work with both the Official stable and dev ROMS.
Some have experienced issues with touch functionality within TWRP using RC1.
RC2 is the way to go. If you have already flashed one of the official roms, if you'd like to flash the EU ROM, you can follow my guide. Providing you follow all steps correctly, you should be on EU ROM.
Cheers!

I haven't Flashed any ROMS yet and i don't know which one to Flash ATM. My phone got bootloop while flashing Chinese DEV from Chinese Stable. Should i flash any other ROMs before flashing "xiaomi.eu_multi_MIMix_7.1.12_v8-6.0.zip"?

Flashing official ROM is not necessary if TWRP is working fine. Flash TWRP RC2 using fastboot, if touch is working for you, you can proceed copying the required files.
Follow my guide on this link.
If TWRP is working fine for you, you can follow from Step 6. If touch is frozen in TWRP, follow my guide from Step 1.
If TWRP works for you, when it prompts you to swipe right, make sure you flash the dm-verity and forced encryption disabler from the link I have provided, soon after you have swiped right to allow system modifications. If not you may face a bootloop.
Keep the guide open and follow the steps.

Tried flashing stock rom using MiFlash. Got Flash devcfg_a error

I have version 10.0.4.0 and was trying to flash (using MiFlash) version 10.0.10 and tried with v10.0.7.0 but both of them didnt work. Any help is appreciated.
Why do you use MiFlash for flashing stock MiA2 ROM on unlocked device? Use fasrtboot.exe instead from latest platform-tools_r29.0.3-windows.zip.

Dude, there is a comprehensive flashing guide available on this forum. Not unlocking the BL with proper commands indicate that you have not read it completely. In any case, you can flash any upgraded version as long as your system partition is not modified or you do not have custom recovery.

Downgrade miui 11 to miui 10

I'm getting some random disconnects on wifi after the update to miui 11, so I want to go back to the miui 10. Can someone explain to me how I can do that?
If your bootloader is locked then download fastboot ROM and flash it using mi flash. If bootloader unlocked the usual way.

You can use fastboot ROM as i already said Bootloader is needed mainly for custom ROMs and root.

Nope, tried, don't got it. When I try to install the fastboot rom, I always get the message on miflash that I need to unlock it first. Can you send me a link that shows how to do it without unlock the bootloader?

Well, no problem. I'll wait and flash the miui 10. Thanks anyway!
I used this version of MiFlash Unlock Tool, miflash_unlock-en-2.2.624.14, to unlock my bootloader immediately without the waiting period. Do take note that unlocking your bootloader will wipe your phone.

My bootloader is locked. Can you tell me where to find fastboot ROM and an explanation to do it?
I'd like to go back to miui 10 as well (v2.13). BL unlocked but I have a weird problem when flashing. I can't flash crclist partition (just failed). What you guys think - is safe to try fastboot erase and then flash? Someone had promlem like mine before?
Btw - crclist "image" is just a txt file.
