Are lock screen notifications actionable ? simply press them and the app opens up? - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

I use my Bluetooth watch to keep my current phone unlocked, using a mi band 4 on my oneplus 6, thinking of buying the 9t Pro, but I have had bad experiences with Xiaomi phones in the past, due to terrible notifications....notifications are very important to me, works very well, no issues.
Using the current MIUI, are the notifications on the lock screen actionable? By simply tapping the lock screen notification and the app that has been sent the notification, opening up on screen for me to see further information?

Ambient display and security settings - possible undocumented feature

It appears that ambient display does not work when your screen lock setting is set to None.
I was showing a mate my Nexus 6 yesterday and started playing with a few settings. I noticed that all of a sudden my ambient display stopped working. I did some testing this morning and finally worked it out that when the screen lock setting is set to None, ambient display does not activate. Any notifications that come through stop appearing on the screen. Setting the screen lock setting to anything other than None ensures ambient display works once again.
1. Is this a known feature / situation for the N6 ?
2. Is anyone else experiencing the same behavior or is it just me ?
1. if you dont have a lockscreen then it cant show you notifications on it. duh, lol.
2. we all have known about this since before lollipop came out.
1. I see no reason why a notification could not be shown on the screen using ambient display even if I don't have a lock screen. It is not like I have actually turned the screen on yet.
2. And yet, when I tried searching for an answer to why my ambient display wasn't working, I found no mention of it at all, not in XDA or the web in general.
Thanks for clearing it up for me, it is clearly a feature of the phone.

if you dont have a lockscreen, then it has nothing to show the incoming message on. if no lockscreen, then it would just show in the status bar.
I understand your point simms22, but I think you may be missing mine. Does it have to be the lock screen that the notification is shown on when it arrives.
For example, msg arrive, screen turns on to show msg. If I do nothing then the screen turns off. If I haven't interacted with the screen, does the notification really need the lock screen to be displayed? I guess that I'm just not convinced that the lock screen is needed to display notifications when I pick my phone up, ie before I touch the screen. If I then interact with a notification then perform the interaction, but if I touch a part of the screen where is no notification, open the device.
The above would be mute if I pick the device up and press the power button to open the home screen.
I guess I look at things a little different, I design systems and interfaces for a living for the Dept of Defence.
I have found that the ambient display does not always activate when I pick the phone up, I'd say its about 90% reliable, have u found the same ?

yea, the way the code is written, there needs to be a lock screen to be displayed. i dont really use it anymore, but i found it to be around 90% as well.
Just to re-iterate, Ambient display is displaying the Lockscreen notifications, not SystemUI notifications, so to show the lockscreen notifications, Lockscreen must be on.

I totally agree. I upgraded from my 2013 Moto X, with Moto DIsplay, to the N6. I NEVER used a lock screen on the Motox, and enjoyed being able to just glance at the phone to know what was incoming.. its quite annoying that I can no longer get my notifications to show up on my screen without turning the phone on, and pulling the shade down. I'm on the computer all day, and have my phone setup next to me and use it to get a quick view of incoming work emails, with out taking my hands off the keyboard, or even stop typing for that matter.
If I would have known that the N6 was unable to work in this matter I would not have gotten it. I would have gone with the Moto X 2 instead.
Hi guys. Do you know any, preferably minimalistic, screen lock app that is compatible with ambient display? Have tried my fav Zui Locker with no luck.

Redmi K20 Pro Lock Screen Notification

So I purchased the new REDMI K20 Pro last week after going through a lot of reviews online. I love the phone and coming from a former Oneplus user is something. However I am having a certain issue regarding the Lock Screen Notification and I am at my wits end to resolve this.
Ever since I have purchased and setup the phone, I have been having some problems with my Lock Screen Notifications. The phone screen automatically lights up whenever I receive any notifications like whatsapp or gmail. This is awfully irritating as often I am driving or in meetings and it distracts me constantly. I have tried everything, tried looking into the phone settings and checking the notification settings but I can't get the phone to stop lighting up. On my Oneplus, I would receive the notification, the phone would buzz and the notification would appear on the lock screen but the screen wouldn't light up.
Is there a way to stop this? Am I missing something? Please help!

Phone is frequently unlocking in my pocket

I often find my phone unlocked in my pocket on the dial screen (typically hearing the tones as the keys are pressed in my pocket). It's always this screen, nothing else. Anybody have the same problem or know why it's happening? Super irritating.
Also, I have a Galaxy Active 2 if that makes any difference. I always wonder if I'm somehow triggering a "start call" function from the watch that I don't realize I'm doing.
I have had this issue as well and it some how gets into the unlocked version of it doesn't look like the emergency dial pad.
But when I get out of it, it goes to the lock screen

Now that I think about it, I think it may be the emergency dial pad. I'm pretty sure the word "emergency" appears at the top.
This was happening to me. I had to set Lock phone immediately when screen turns off and it lock screen when pressing power button. Otherwise soli seems to turn the screen on unlocked.
With the facial unlock, there is no need to give it 30 seconds or not to lock when pressing power button. I always set my other phones like that. Not needed with this one

K20 pro display replaced. Screen not getting unlocked

Hi All,
I broke my my Redmi K20 pro display and have replaced it.
With the broken display, all was working except the display. i.e., phone would ring on calls, vibrate, notifications would ring, battery charging did sound. So, assuming that nothing else was damaged.
After display replacement, the screen doesn't get unlocked.
Phone boots properly and asks for pattern/fingerprint. Does not recognise fingerprint and on entering the correct pattern, the screen unlocks for a micro-second and then turns black and then the purple MIUI logo shows and the screen returns to locked state.
Phone performs all functions that can be done from locked screen.
Is the new display being not recognised by the phone OS?
Any assistance would be great.
Thanks a lot in advance.

No, the phone is not formatted. It is using the same ROM as bought.
Try a clean install with backed up data.

If the phone displays boot logo and animations and lockscreen, then that suggests the display is OK.
What you describe actually sounds like the recent wallpaper bug, where a wallpaper image is set, but the image has a colour space not recognised by the OS. Try booting to recovery and doing a factory reset (I'm assuming MIUI recovery gives this option, I can't remember if it does or not)

Hi, were you able to fix this problem?
Yes. I'm currently using the same device.
Kept on unlocking the screen using pattern. Fingerprint recognition puts the device in the reboot sequence. So now I only use pattern unlock.
I tried unlocking about 100 times and then this one time the phone behaved and remained unlocked.
It was like training my pet... lol
All the best.

Question specific app notification wake up screen for no reason

I got my S21 Ultra (AT&T variant) a few months ago and noticed a strange behavior. some of my apps will force my phone screen on for some reason and I don't know if there's a setting to prevent that from happening. The 2 main ones that I know for sure that does this is the Amcrest Smart Home app and the older Amcrest View Pro app (I have both apps because I have older cameras that doesn't seem to want to connect to the newer Smart Home app)
Is there anything I can do to stop these apps from waking up the screen whenever it sends a motion detection notification? It's caused me to accidentally press random parts of the screen w/ my leg a few times.
Thanks!
