What do you plan on buying with the $100 pre-order credit? - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

I pre-ordered through the Google Store so I'm limited to items only available there. I was originally going to try and wait for the Pixel Buds pre-order if it was before the 1/30/2020 expiration. Then on second thought I realized I really don't use earbuds as much as I used to and it would lay around more often than not. Plus I would still have to spend an extra $70+. So I decided I'll use it for the Pixel Stand and the rest towards a case. The stand is perfect for bedside charging and being only 10w I'm fine with the slower speed overnight rather than the 18w wired.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I'm debating right now. I have 3 possible things but am trying to pick between two:
Pixel Stand
Case
Extra charger
Right now I'm leaning toward the case and extra charger, just because I don't know how much I'll be using that Pixel stand, but I have time to decide I guess lol

I'm not sure tbh. I already have a stand. I guess I'll cross the bridge when I get to it lol

I plan on grabbing a stand, both for what the OP mentioned, as well as for soli interaction.

Pixel stand and 45W USB-C Power Adapter

So long as my credit drops by black Friday week, I'm putting it towards a nest hello, or maybe one of the kits with that and an outdoor camera. If it's later, just the nest hello.

I pre-ordered the Moment case for $31.99. You should look into the alternative Sirui lens to attach to it. They're actually very good and less than half the price. This one in the video is actually a newer version I plan on getting. I was very please with the original.

Possibly the Pixel stand. My only concern is the heat generated with wireless charging hurting the battery.

I would think wired charging at 18w would produce more heat than wireless at 10w.

He's probably referring to the impedance created by wireless charging. I'm still going to use it, heavily. I'll have a stand at work and home, so battery life will be a non issue

Poll/discussion: Replace your N5 with the OnePlus One?

Now the pricing for the OnePlus One has been confirmed ($299/€269 16GB, $349/€299 64GB) who here is tempted to jump ship?
I love the sh*t out of my N5 but I'm sick of trying to get good battery life out of it. I think the 3100 mAh in the OnePlus One will remove that hassle/concern from my life. Opinions?
Hell no way . N5 is good enough for me !

This phone looking good but I will stick to my N5
5.5" display, too much for my taste.

No love for t-mobile so I'll have to pass. Would've bought it too.
Not sure whether this will come to India.
But if it does, at a good pricing (similar to USD or maybe slightly more), I am surely going to regret buying Nexus 5 just a few weeks ago.
Anyway. I am not switching devices for next 2 years or so. I love my Nexus 5 quite a lot.
I read about it on engadget this morning. I didn't see anything about the speakers but my first thought was TAKE MY MONEY then i remembered.... I don't have any money.
as much as I shy away from cyanogen mod, this phone is beautiful.

If CyanogenMod gives more updates for the OnePlus One than Google for the N5, then the OnePlus One is a huge win.
$350 for a better camera, 64gb storage, 3gb ram, larger screen, and capacitive buttons - too tempting. If SlimKat will officially support this device I'll sell my N5 for this.

I think the trade off from slow wireless charging to quick charge technology is a great trade off. 0 to 75 percent in about 30 minutes on a 3100mah battery like the find 7s quick charge.

will you upgrade to pixel 2 xl

this thread is for discussion
so google revealed the pixel 2 xl (which is not perfect by any mean )
do you plan as nexus 6 owner to upgrade to it
or there is another option you consider
or you will stick with the good old nexus 6
i want to hear your opinion :laugh:
A feature that I'm looking for is high accuracy GPS:

Maybe some 2018 phones will have that.
And whatever happened to Project Tango?

No plan to upgrade N6 to Pixel.
I've rooted and decrypted my N6 and with that configuration it is a fast and smooth device.
In the meantime I look at and wait for alternatives, like OnePlus 6 in 2018.
The OnePlus 5 would be an option, but the display is only 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Yep, ordered my XL2 within a few hours of the announcement. Headphone jack, wireless charging, and ugly design aside, it's a worthy upgrade.
I'll use the N6 as an around the house device when browsing and doing other stuff. Even if I wanted to wait another year, the screen cracks make it such that the proximity sensor is inconsistent. When I take the phone away from my face, the screen doesn't always turn on or if I'm trying to dial from speaker phone, the screen sometimes refuses to turn on even when hitting the power button. I'm done with that.
No headphone jack= skip
I'm going to upgrade with overtime money around Christmas time, kind of to treat myself, my main reason is because I'm sick of the software on the S8+ i have and have decided to trade that in and use some of the money for a 6P or a normal pixel XL (if the price is right), to use mainly as a phone for work. I really miss the stereo speakers on the Nexus 6 and the pixel 2 XL is a perfect modern replacement, i don't really mind the bezel on it when compared to the S8+ and i guess apple were right and we will be forced into a wireless future when it comes to headphones at least, so I'd rather pick up that habit sooner rather than later

I was thinking about the OP6 too, but it needs to have a larger screen for me to consider it. Hopefully it will follow the 6" 18:9 route. I like the Pixel 2 XL but it's way too expensive.
Meanwhile, the N6 works perfectly and will hold on for a few more months.
Yep, I did it. Really can't afford it but what the Hell. Never bought a brand new Flagship before. Usually wait at least a year which is the smart thing to do but i can't help myself this time. Looking forward to see how it can possibly be any better than the original pixel which I bought 2 months ago and will trade in.

The headphone jack doesn't matter to me. I use Bluetooth.
No wireless charging is kind of a kick in the nuts, but I can get a receiver coil for that. I like the wireless charging for less wear and tear on the connector, and the convenience of putting it on the stand or popping it onto my iottie car cradle to charge.
@ SynisterWolf, how does it compare to N6? I was also thinking of it as upgrade reasonable option.
Camera, battery, screen are main consideration for the price.
Stereo speakers I do really enjoy but very little number of phones have ones
I'm a cheapskate now that I'm a dad so just last week I picked up a Pixel XL (v1, 2016) for 225 or so. Paid full price on the first "Google Phone", the Nexus 1, been deal hunting ever since. I'm kinda OK with Nexus 6, other than camera. Getting tired of 99% pics I take of my son looking pretty bad. Going to see if girlfriend wants the Nexus 6, she watches alot of videos on her phone (currently my old 2013 Moto X since her iPhone broke) and the N6 is still, I think, the ultimate video watching phone. (Giant 16x9 screen, stereo front speakers, etc)
I pulled the trigger on a P2XL at the end of March, when Google was offering a $200 credit and a free charger with cable for those who financed the device. The N6 I purchased when they were being closed out after the release of the 6P, so this is the first time I ever bought the latest and greatest. The lack of a headphone jack isn't a deal breaker for me, and I personally like the design.
My roommate took the N6 in place of her Moto X Style (2015), simply because the N6 is getting totally functional Android 8.1 ROMs while the Moto X is stuck on Android 7.1.1.

Pixel 2

I'm very happy N6 owner but now I have option to buy Pixel 2 (not XL) for a good price. What do you think, is it worth it. I know it's smaller but Pixel 2 is much faster and camera should be much better than N6. Thoughts?

Definitely worth it. Only thing you're downgrading from is the screen resolution which you'll barely notice. Everything else will be an upgrade from the N6

Depends ... My bad price level starts at 500?
I got the Pixel 2 XL and am extremely happy I did, I have not regrets and would do it again, although I had to swallow twice on the price. Knowing I have a phone that will last 3-4 or more years made it easier. It was the biggest screen, dual front speakers, and not a proprietary manufacturer that loads tons of bloat. :good: Those were my priorities.
I was seriously considering OnePlus because of development support, until their latest (and continual) spyware escapade. No! No! No! - bad juju - once burned twice smart

Why I sent back my OnePlus 6T.

First of all the notch was no big deal, turned on the settings to hide it and forgot about it. I did not like the screen quality. Now I am coming from a Nexus 6P which a QHD display and knew it came with a lower resolution screen but all the reviewers were saying how they can't tell the difference. They must need glasses. I am middle aged with not great eyesight and I could easily spot the difference.
The speed of the device is fast and the battery life was good. Wifi reception is excellent.
The dongle for headphones was no big deal either as all of mine worked. However the OnePlus 6T dongle in the box looks like it will break easily overtime and I am mad in the US they don't sell extra's. As for the sound quality knowing that USB-Type C headphones use digital I think the sound quality is not great and even when using a USB-Type C headphones dongle on the Nexus 6P I noticed much better sound. Now the reason I sent it back is constant audio stuttering with Apple Music. I read this has been going on for years and no I am not dropping AM as I hate Spotify UI and I don't really like Play Music which will turn into the much worse YTMusic soon.
So that is a deal breaker I sent it back, went back to my Nexus 6P.
Bout sent back Mine cause it won't work properly on Verizon...
I have T-Mobile so I did not have a chance to try it outside. As soon as AM kept stuttering I wanted to return it.
No issues with Apple music here. I have prepaid so I don't use Verizon myself. I dumped them like 4 years ago now and never looked back

Not really buying that. I'm a pixel peeper and had doubts but you can't tell the screen is 1080p. You would have to have the phone very close to your face to see the difference. Also the Nexus 6p is pretty ancient now and the screen quality won't be anywhere near as good as the newest ones...amoled tech gets better every year.... unless it's from LG ?

A little off topic but how do you compare the camera differences between the 3xl and the 6t. I bought the 6t coming from the og XL (got it free due to 6p battery jank, totally regret it.) The Pixel 3 has an unrivaled camera. Maybe Huawei's mate 20 pro/x can compare to the experience due to more options with a wide angle lens, AI that doesn't suck (that black/white background while keeping the subject in colour is amazing), and a night sight mode that performs well.. but the Pixel is king. I returned my Pixel 3 XL because the notch was too hideous and the speakers were garbage, but I'm glad we have GCam for the 6T. Stock camera isn't as good as GCam.
And to the op: sorry but I'm calling bs. There's no genuine way you can tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p on a smartphone. Maybe you're confusing the screen quality, which is still very questionable given how old the 6P is, but still - there's no way you can tell the difference between a FHD and QHD panel with the naked eye. You'd have to have the phone about an inch from your eye to possibly see anything.

I guess ive used bluetooth headphones the last few years.. Cant be bothered with archaic wired headphones.
Coming off a pixel 1, can cant tell any differences in the ppi except in vr.. And is not much.
Only major loss is the camera., but everyting else makes up for it.

I'd agree with this too. The pixel 3 shoots 10/10 pics great while the 6T is maybe 7 or 8 out of 10. Then portrait mode is not even close! Overall its more than fine for what I use it for

I guess it depends on how important the camera is to you. The Pixel is obviously better, but then again it's probably better than any phone, not just the 6T. I always think I need the best camera, but then in practice, unless I'm on holiday somewhere, I don't even use it that much. Although sure, it would be nice to have.
Part of the problem as well is the tenancy to view photos side-by-side in camera comparison videos and the like. When you directly compare the 6T to something like the Pixel 3 in most cases it's not going to be as good, but in real usage when you're not comparing it to the best in class, it's a fairly capable shooter in its own right.

Well considering, but the price might be a joke, lets see in a week, 700 quid or more just aint cheap or affordable anymore, honor 20 pro probably be around 500 ish mark ( yes hate the software) but if they can manage to stick all latest hardware inc basically same or even better cams, ... I am going to keep my OnePlus 6T. It's probably expected that the OnePlus 7T will be the better flagship to get. They blew our minds away with the 6T and all the gesture features that it could do. They'll blow us away even further with the OnePlus 7T.

I'm probably going to get a 7 pro at some point because I lack self control. But my biggest complaint is that they're improving things that were already good about the 6T rather than trying to fix the weak parts. Camera looks to still be soso, battery life seems to have gotten worse, 7 pro still doesn't have proper sides to grip and looks to be incredibly hard to hold. Hopefully I'm wrong, either way I'll probably have one in my pocket soon

Battery well, some reporting 7h sot some 4, cant see the phone gettin less than 5 so that's basically a full day of use
Worse battery, slower face unlock, bigger than 6t and super expenve phone.

And the processor is 855 AC standard or AX standard not sure about that. Is there anyone else like me upgrading from 6T to 7 Pro??

That is pretty impressive specs...work on Verizon? My 6T does and my account is setup to LTE with them...but does it support the proper LTE bands VZW uses? Otherwise..not so much an option.
What about the new Asus Zenfone 6? That is a pretty impressive phone, except it is and IPS screen and not AMOLED...otherwise, it has beast specs for a $550 phone as well.

I'm going to have to switch to another carrier once my credited BOGO phone monthly credit is gone in 10 months/paid off on VZW. Otherwise to leave, going to cost me $300...so yeah...then will switch to GSM carrier so I won't have these issues anymore, Verizon sucks...

Just picked up the T-Mobile 7 Pro in store. In the process of setting up. It's going to take getting used to. For anyone wanting to know, it does have the T-Mobile splash screen, does not have a screen protector. Also there was an update oot of the box.
