Mi 9 versions - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hi, I'm looking these days to buy a new smartphone, but I'm confused as far as xiaomi with all these mi 9.
So we have :
Mi 9: sd855 China/global
Mi 9 pro: sd855+ China
Same for mi 9 pro 5g. China.
Mi 9t: sd855 global
Mi 9t pro: sd855 global
K20: sd855 China
K20 pro: sd855 China
K20 pro premium: sd855+ China
So there is no mi 9t pro with sd855+ global. Right ?
And no mi 9 pro with sd855+ global right ?
So in a few words , in the global market there is no xiaomi with sd855+ ???
Enlighten me. I need global and I need sd855+ with that imx586 sensor or better. I simply want the best.
Mi mix alpha is out of question. I'd better buy a car at that price.

Remeber that Chinese and Global versions have different LTE bands, and in europe many operators use B20, that is not available on Chinese versions, so you'll get BAD signal reception.
Global version has LTE FDD: B20/B28. Chinese version has LTE FDD: B17; LTE TDD: B34/B41. Rest of bands are the same.
To sum up.
- Mi 9 SE: SD712 6GB RAM 18W 3070Mah GLOBAL/CHINA
- Mi9 Lite: SD710 6GB 18W 4030Mah GLOBAL/CHINA
- Mi 9t: SD730 6GB RAM 18W 4000Mah GLOBAL/CHINA
- K20: SD730 6GB RAM 18W 4000Mah CHINA
- Mi 9: SD855 6/8GB RAM 27W 3300Mah GLOBAL/CHINA
- Mi 9 EE (Explorer Edition): SD855 12GB RAM 27W 3300Mah GLOBAL/CHINA
- Mi 9t Pro: SD855 6GB RAM 27W 4000Mah GLOBAL
- K20 Pro: SD855 6GB RAM 27W 4000Mah CHINA
- K20 Pro Premium: SD855+ 8/12GB RAM 27W 4000Mah CHINA
- Mi 9 Pro/Pro 5G: SD855+ 8GB RAM, 40W 4000Mah CHINA
I highlighted in RED "negative" aspects.
To complete the list. (On 20/10/2019)

Simply, if you want an global 855+, wait for Q1 2020

Nope, Mi 9T is not available in China, it's a Redmi K20 for the rest of the world, while the K20 is India and China only.
Same for the Mi 9T Pro and Redmi K20 Pro.

Mi 9T Pro Rom for K20 Pro

Good day Sir / Ma'am,
To those that can possible answer the question, as you all know, Mi 9T Pro and K20 Pro are technically the same except for the branding. Should the Mi 9T Pro becomes available, is there away someone can get the global rom work with the K20 pro? And what's the probability of the future Mi 9T Pro roms to work on the K20 pro (eg lineage os, rr, pixel experience etc)?
Just wait for Xiaomi EU forums to do roms for it

Hi. Do Xiaomi EU makes rom outside of MIUI components like stock based rom?
Hello. I don't know whether to buy the K20 pro or the 9T.
Do you think both these phones will receive many official AOSP roms?

Won't the Redmi k20 pro and the Redmi k20 get the same level of custom ROM support? From a developer's perspective, the only difference is the processor (SD855 VS SD730).

I am guessing processors SD855 and SD730 has different components. So I doubt that the same rom would work on both.

K20 and k20 pro totally different. More support will be on pro version i guess. 855 resources are easily available now. Pixel ROM CAF version maybe easy for devs to build

If I am not mistaking, the difficulty in developing custom ROMs does not lie in compatibility with Qualcomm processors. The sources of the Snapdragon processors of Qualcomm are published and available to the public.

Thats not true. They only claimed in russia that there is a Mi 9T Pro but they did not know when it will be available (global marked).
If I purchase the one with Chinese ROM, will I be able to replace the ROM for the Global version? I'm so in love with the phone that I'm about to purchase the Chinese Version. The only thing that is preventing me to do so is the fear of not having the possibility to update the ROM later. Does anyone know if it will be possible? Thanks!
On Honor buy it says English and Chinese version with Google play pre installed,
Does that mean it is Global,I assume you could do all you need here with OTAs ,apps etc.

That's what they were saying initially, then roumers came of it being the 9T pro.
It is certainly a possibility it will be rebranded the Poco f2,
Either way, seems like we will be waiting a while for it
There has been reports in a few tech sites of a Geek Bench set of scores for an alleged Mi 9T Pro, that suggest it's a K20 Pro (it had the same motherboard name of raphael). Granted that could have been a fake, so it's certainly not real proof the Mi 9T Pro will arrive. https://www.mysmartprice.com/gear/x...geekbench-listing-confirms-rebranded-k20-pro/

Yes. But you can only change from Chinese to Global ROM once the bootloader is unlocked. You will have to wait 15 days to unlock the bootloader.
This comes with limited LTE bands, so check first that it covers the bands you'll need. Changing to the global ROM won't magically open up all global bands.

That's the part people aren't understanding. A lot of these sellers install a "global" ROM with multi-languages and Google Play Store, but they're not the actual official global version due to band restrictions. I live in the United States so pay attention to that. Here's my post from a few minutes ago about possible delays in the release of the official global version. https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-xiaomi-mi-9t-pro-global-t3939580

Is the k20 pro basically the same with mi 9t pro if I flash custom rom on it?

Hi! I'm planning to buy thew new mi 9t pro. However it's not released yet here in the philippines. k20 is though. Should I just go for the k20 and flash it? what's the difference between the device?
Just to clarify... You are talking about K20 or K20 Pro?
K20 Pro it's the same as Mi 9T pro.
Only difference so far is baseband support.
Mi 9T pro supports band 20 and K20 pro doesn't.

Choosing k20 pro

Hi, is it okay to choose k20 pro over mi 9t pro because i want to get 8/256? Although I'm gonna lose 1 band out of 6 here.

The global Mi 9T Pro (not the European version) will come with 8/256 GB. See this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/help/9t-pro-8-256-varient-t3964710
Some sellers are already selling the global version.
As for what's best, then it depends on what you'll be doing with it. If you intend to go with custom ROMs and can live without the missing LTE bands, then which version you go for won't make any real difference, but the Chinese K20 Pro will be the cheapest option at this time.
If you plan on sticking with stock MIUI then the global Mi 9T Pro will allow you to keep the bootloader locked, which will give you Widevine L1 and any banking/finance apps working without any issues.

Differences between Redmi K20 and Mi 9T?

Hi,
I'm on the point of buying Redmi K20 Pro
However I noticed the forums here were described as "Redmi K20 and Mi 9T" - so wondered if the two phones were the same (or not) and whether the different names were just to reflect marketing and branding?
Thanks,
Steve

Mi 9t Pro has band 20. This is particularly useful in Europe where it is used extensively.
Also I believe that Mi 9t Pro has Widevine L1 certification not present on K20. Important to some people.

The K20 series is also missing B28, which is significant here in Australia and possibly in other countries.
I hope it's ok to ask in this thread.
What are the differences in the firmware flashing?
I am using it a day right now and Miui is not really what I expected... So I may flash it after Miui 11 comes out.
The Roms are compatible between K20 Pro and Mi 9t Pro? Both are "Raphael"? There is no problem with frequency if I flash a "K20 Pro Rom"?
If I use another Rom, I still can use the three cameras? (My first multi cam phone)

One great phone marred by poor Xiaomi support

In done of hardware and gaming experience, this is THE BEST GAMING phone I have used till date and I have used quite of them as a serious gamer (Razer 1, ROG 2, ROG 3 - limited, Black shark 3 pro, Nubia Red Magic 5s, iPhone 11 Pro Max).
While the OS and some trigger features might not be as complex as ROG phones, here are a few features that separate the phone from rest of the pack:
1) Physical triggers/ shoulder buttons are way better to play with vs. the capacitive triggers on ROG and Red Magic (Red magic triggers suck to be honest). They work even when not using the gaming mode (or shark space mode), unlike Nubia where the triggers work only in RM gaming mode
2) Shark space is very intuitive and much better interface esp compared to Nubia
3) Compared to Rog 2 and Red Magic 5s, the phone remains much cooler even during long gaming sessions (2hrs plus). No significant lags/ frame drops even when the phone is hot.
4) Battery lasts significantly longer during gaming vs. Rog 2 and RM 5s
5) Much better build accessories which also work with other phones unlike ROG where you are stuck with the Asus ecosystem (my rog 2 dock is lying idle since my rog 2 died). The keyboard works great with pc gaming as well as other android devices. Although I usually game on my phone but once a while using keyboard is fun
However, most of the benefits just stop there, and here are the reasons why it is not the first choice for a junkie who wants to get the full out of his phone:
1) Extremely limited Xiaomi support on opening up the software. People still struggle to find global ROMs and rooting the phone for custom ROMs is a nightmare (at least now its free, when I purchased the phone you couldn't root it without paying someone in Xiaomi for it)
2) Some of the great software features in gaming phones are missing:
a) Game recording sucks. If you turn your in game mic on or off during gameplay, chances are audio will stop recording (in game). No matter how many permutations and combinations you try.
b) No way to create automated montage videos like the Red Magic Moment on the phone. The shark time, while eating away the phone battery, is a lousy piece of software (you need to click the icon everytime to make a kill and it will store 15-20 seconds of the video as a file). Having a red magic moment like feature will really push sales of this phone like crazy vs. Nubia. But they wont do it. Neither would they open up to help independent developers build a feature like this.
3) Extremely poor post sales support/ feedback. Unlike ROG (which has a dedicated forum on their website led by Asus employees) where sales and tech support continuously take in feedback to refine their product (example the desktop dock which I worked with their mods for quick updates and refinement), there is no seemingly easy way to connect with Black shark developers to give feedback, forget about requesting new features
I wonder if the developers at Xiaomi even read forums like XDA to help improve their connect with buyers and work on their shortcomings.
Just look at the Android security patch we are at... They are not even bothered.
This phone is last on their list, all the redmi and poco has started receiving Android 11.
Xiaomi should have mentioned zero support on blackshark page.
We don't even have proper gesture based navigation in 2021.
Yeah Global support is really bad. Android security patch is old from 5 may 2020 and still no word about Android 11. It's a shame because the phone it self is still great.
They also focusing now on the new Black Shark 4, but that's no excuse.

They won’t be able to sell many 4 pros if people with bs 3 and 3 pro are struggling. This is why asus sells many more units even though the triggers of bs3 are way better.
The worst part is in China it gets more updates than globally. They should have mentioned this is a China only phone then I would have just brought an OnePlus again or a samsung.

Regular patch and security patch will be rolling out on 3 series this month, plz be patient.
As for joy ui 12, we do not have an estimate for global release yet, plz subscribe to our facebook page and get first hand news.

Wow, what i read now about the Black Shark 4 Pro really sucks. I'm not going to buy it if true.
Last year’s Black Shark Pro 3 was one of the phones with the biggest displays with a massive 7.1-inch screen 90Hz AMOLED panel with a 2k+ resolution. This year, Black Shark has cut down not only the screen size but also the resolution. The Black Shark 4 Pro will have a 6.67-inch screen with a 1080p resolution. We don’t know the screen size and resolution of the standard model but the resolution will most definitely be 1080p too.
