Xiaomi Mi A2; Cannot access recovery and bootloader - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

As the title says, I cannot access bootloader and recovery mode. This happened after my device was accidentally removed while flashing stock rom :crying:
Is my device hardbricked now? My device is stucked on mi logo when holding the power button. Holding power button + volume down however gives me a black screen (the screen is turned on though). Please help. I was looking for a solution for hours already but I only found solutions that would require you to either boot into recovery or access bootloader.

I'd suggest to connect phone when it is in supposed "fastboot mode" (though with black screen) to PC and type "fastboot devices" in platform-tools folder CMD. If phone is recognized, you'll be able (as obviously you have unlocked phone) to flash stock ROM or boot into TWRP to flash custom ROM, - black screen can happen with corrupt /splash partition, while bootloader may be still working.

[Q] What is the Nexus one power button fail rate?

Hi everyone!
I just purchased a slightly used N1 for my dad for fathers day, and the guy was telling me about how N1s have a problem with their power button. He told me it hasn't happened at all with the phone I purchased, but I wanted to ask XDA..
"Do you have a nexus one with a failing power button? & how long have you had the nexus one?"
18 months and no failure. A free app called Quickboot in the market allows you to power down with a soft button, lengthening the click-life.
Ya I use trackball wake, widget locker and quickboot so I never have to touch my power button except to turn it on from power off or to select in bootloader. The thing is is that nexus one power buttons fail after a while but it depends how much you press it if it's once every 5 minutes ya it'll die faster you can't know if it will die soon there is not really an average dying rate.
BTW: I've had mine 10 months
Power Button failure
I am desperate about my power button status, is completely out of order. I am on latest nightlies but due to FC of launcher, i had to power off my n1. Because of my power button I can not restart or access recovery mode, now it is in bootloop.
Is there any solution???

Is your bootloader unlocked??
If yes then try fastboot flashing if not then do passimg instructions are in the wiki (under unroot/restore) http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One/Guides_%26_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus
Thank you Dude Random 21,
Yes, my N1 is already rooted, bootloader unlocked, however s-on not s-off. I dont quite understand why is always s-off for more than a year, but i can do everything as rooted device. I read somewhere that my N1 is not completely unlocked, this may be other story
In my situation now the power button do not properly operate as required, so I cannot shut down, ie power down my phone, for recovery option.
Help!!!
You can power down just to turn it on you'll need to plug in your charger (to your computer if you'll be flastboot flashing anyway) and then remove your battery and reinsert it (while holding trackball so you boot into fastboot) you may have to try it multiple times to get it to work.
my power button works fine after 15 months, but that is because i purposely use track ball wake and rarely ever touch the power button. and i use quickboot app as well. i just dont feel like even dealing with the possibility.
so really just root, install cyan 7 or some other ROM with trackball wake, and save the hassle.
18 months, and I use it constantly. I've installed Quickboot, but never use it. I've enabled trackball wake, but never use it...
I'm prepared for when it dies - which will probably be later this evening, now that I've said this...
My power button died after 3 months of use... I'm currently using "anyunlock".
15 months and no issues whatsoever.
P.S. I have never used trackball wake...

No problem here, but I have been careful. I normally use "Power Off and Lock" to turn it off and Trackball to wake. Owned just over a year at this point.
I worry about the trackball wearing out, but I figure if it does it won't kill me, as I don't really use it for much anything else. Love my RGB notification disco ball though, I WILL miss that, even if I don't physically use the trackball itself.

I got to white screen with 3 robotic skaters, ie screen with options: fastboot, recovery, clear storage, and simlock. As I said before, my power button does not work any more, so that I can not push pwr botton for activating recovery mode.
I tried other option using method of recovery image at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One/Recovery_Images. After typing the cmd "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" the notification is " waiting for device". I think adb cannot see/ regconize my n1, so that I cannot enter recovery mode.
Please enlighten me.
To use fastboot, your bootloader needs to be unlocked and the phone needs to be at the fastboot screen (hold trackball while powering up - looks like the same white 3 android screen, but the menu is slightly different)
If your bootloader isn't already unlocked you may be out of luck (you need to use the power button as part of the unlocking process).
You can use adb to boot into recovery, but you need to be in either recovery (pointless), or booted normally to use adb (won't work from hboot).
I started having problems 5 months after purchase and Videotron replaced it. My wife's N1 just started playing games, also after 5 months.

Ok, I got to the fastboot screen with menu option: fastboot USB..., bootloader, reboot, rebootbootloader, and power down. So 2 question:
In my case, my bootloader is considered as unlock??? If it is unlock how can proceed further ?????, because for selection one of options my pwr button does not work.
With ADB method: this method does not required using the pwr button: I tried as instructions
For unlocked bootloader - using fastboot
The following won't work unless your bootloader is unlocked.
1. Download Amon_RA's Recovery from one of the versions above.
2. Rename Amon_Ra's Recovery Image to simply recovery.img.
3. Download this file - Stock Recovery Remover - and copy it to the root of SDcard.
4. Toggle on USB Debugging (Settings » Applications » Development). Power off the Nexus One.
5. Boot into bootloader mode. (Hold volume down & power button until you see white screen with skateboarding androids)
6. Connect the Nexus One to the computer.
7. On the computer... Open a command prompt/terminal & navigate to the Android SDK Tools folder.
8. Type in the following commands (assuming recovery.img is in the current directory):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot recovery
Click to collapse
The result is the notifications:" wait for device" and i waited for hours...
In both cases, I cant go further, any way out???
If your phone has the padlock on the static x screen it is unlocked. It also tells you in fastboot if its locked.
Anyways as I think danger stated you need to use fastboot commands when the phone is in fastboot mode connected to the PC etc. It is a not a adb command. Its fastboot devices...etc
I'm the end you will issue the fastboot flash recovery command. Then fastboot boot recovery....
If you're unlocked your fine. You don't need power button. If you're locked you're ****ed

Yes, I confirm that there is a padlock, and I understand that my N1 is unlock.
I redid cmd: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and fastboot reboot recovery
But nothing happen. It is my N1 bricked???
My last hope is to replace Power Button.
Any suggestion???
First, make sure your phone is connected by typing:
fastboot devices
If that works, then try flashing the recovery. Post any error messages, rather than saying "it didn't work"...
Using Nexus One from April 2010 - power button working fine. Bought Nexus One directly on google site.

Broken recovery on a nonunlocked bootloader, flashing no command

I have the "no command" screen with the android man , however it flashes in and out. when i hold down the power button and go into ap fastboot mode, i cannot go into recovery (it just shutdown the phone) and factory reset does not work. My phone is a non dev version, is there anything i can do?

Bricked but recognized in fastboot and recovery

Hello, it's my first question on XDA but I really like this community. So for my problem : after bug in lineage os I wanted returned on the official ROM but after flashing (with my flash tool) the phone doesn't want turn on, the screen stay black no vibrate no LED. On my computer the phone was sometime detected as a MTP devices. So i turn the phone on the fastboot to flash but went he is on fastboot the screen doesn't wake up but on the computer the phone is on fastboot and I can flash. After I tested the recovery so I flash TWRP and boot on this but the screen doesn't wake up but with ADB tool I see my phone and I can move in the phone with "adb shell". I tested all the thing I know to unbrick my phone so I answer you. I really thank you if you can help me.
PS: I don't speak very well English so I really sorry for all the mistake
Absolutely identical situation here, but for me the phone just died by itself at night. Reflashing stuff with EDL / Fastboot does not help at all.
With some combination of boot AND recovery it is visible as adb + mtp device, with some does not.
Should be noted that fastboot boot recovery.img does not boot recovery and loops, but holding up button while inserting usb cable does.
@Celeste.cote
@skydev
Usually you should try removing and reinserting the battery, but the Mi5's battery is not removable, as you know.
So what you wanna do is to force this behaviour by pressing the power + vol up + vol down buttons all together for about 1 minute (be serious about this - also try like 2 minutes if it doesn't work quicker!).
You'll notice that it has been working by seeing the Mi logo.
Solved the black screen of death error for me once.
How about you?
@Phil_Smith, thanks for the advice, well, it seems that the problem we have is a little different.
I have that behaviour (black screen + adb + mtp) sometimes only when trying to boot recovery, but when trying normal boot i get bootloader bootloop with "Mi logo unlocked".
I think i should make a thread for my own problem.
P.S. I think the power supervisor should shutdown (restart) phone if power button is being held for 10 seconds, except if in EDL mode!
I can also recommend doing poweroff from adb shell and removing USB cable immediately afterwards - it should power off the phone.
@Phil_Smith y really thanks you for your answer but that don't running on my phone... I think it's the motherboard who is broken because I have no vibrate no led and no screen. I give up for this phone... Thank you and @skydev I hope you find a solution

Cant't boot to fastboot mode

I'm trying to install a custom ROM onto my Xperia XZ1 Compact but I got stuck in the beginning. The first step would be to unlock the bootloader. I followed multiple tutorials but none of them worked for me, because I can't get my phone to reboot into fastboot mode. I tried two ways basically:
1. Turn off device, hold Volume down button for 2 secs, plug USB while holding the button. Nope, nothing happens, the only thing I get is the green led is on, I guess indicating that the phone is being charged.
2. Turn off device, plug USB and launch the command adb reboot fastboot (My computer is running Linux but I think it doesn't matter). The phone turns off but does not restart. If I just do adb reboot it reboots in normal mode. I also tried adb reboot bootloader but it just turns off the phone.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

It seems that this issue is now solved. Black screen with green led on means that your phone is in fastboot mode. Do not expect any feedback on the screen.

I see, thanks. Anyway something is going really bad here, I wish I had never started this. I have managed to unlock the bootloader but the phone does not work now. It hangs at the XPERIA logo and does not respond to power button. It only responds to power + vol up + vol down which restarts the system and hangs again at logo

Restore your phone with THIS. Which guide did you follow to unlock your boot loader? https://developer.sony.com/develop/...d/unlock-bootloader/how-to-unlock-bootloader/

Stuck In Bootloop (Not able to get in fastboot or recovery mode)

My device went int bootloop suddenly while I was using it. I not able to get in fastboot (when I press Power + Down it shows fastboot window for a sec and reboots again ) or recovery mode(When I press Power + Up, Screen shows up saying no command).
I was using official build(July patch). I have not enabled ADB. My bootloader is also locked.
Is it possible to get this device working?
Any help will be appreciated.

This is normal behavior of stock recovery: seeing "no command" hold "power" and click "Vol+", - to get to the stock recovery menu (btw, search would 100% give you this tip even in these forums).
As you are locked, and thus you have surely lost user data, you can try to make factory reset from recovery menu.
Yet I'd try to connect phone to power and make numerous attempts to reboot, occasionally rebooting into fastboot and into recovery, - with the hope that phone will switch into the other A/B slot.
If nothing helps, TestPoint/EDL is the only option except service.
But again, the problem may be hardware issue, and as you are supposed to disassemble phone preforming TestPoint, I'd check connectors inside and tried to reboot again before reflashing in MiFlash. And do not forget to reflash in fastboot after MiFlash reflash (and unlock phone - which I did immediately after purchase).
