Can I get root with pie of the Japanese version SM-N960J / D? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I own the Japanese version of Note9 SM-N960D (SC-01L) SM-N960J (SCV40).
Currently using 9.0 pie.
I want to get the route, but when I wipe with TWRP, I fall into the boot loop.:crying:
Even if you install Magisk and RMM-State_Bypass, it will not start.
I also installed no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1.zip or no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip.
Does anyone know how to get root of this Note9 terminal and start it?

you might need to flash a custom kernel( or at least a patched one after data format. or it will just bootloop)
also please read dr ketans guide in the general discussion section and use method 1.

Thank you for your reply.
Which kernel should be rewritten?
Which discussion page is [dr ketans guide in the use method 1]?
I would be happy if you could tell me.

I tried the following:
1. Burn carrier genuine ROM with Odin
2. Launch download mode again and write [TWRP_3.2.3-0_N9600_beta3.tar.md5] with Odin
3.TWRP immediately after Method 2
4.Wipe → FORMAT DATA → yes with TWRP
5.Reboot to recovery mode and mount system etc.
6.Install → microSD card menu → “N960F_DS_N_PIE_Root_for_OEM_issue_devices_V5.zip” → Install
Freeze the installation screen.
The terminal I am using is snapdragon.

oh snapdragon really? that's why. i thought the japanese model was Exynos. very sorry for that mistake.
then please go to:

there is guidance in that post towards the end regarding twrp and root.
also i think if you flash twrp, boot to twrp, flash decryption fix then format, reboot back to twrp and then flash latest patched kernel:

Thank you for your kindness! Made progress. But there is a new problem.
After installing the WETA kernel, TWRP and Magisk were able to boot in a retained state.
However, there is a problem, and after restarting, a green screen of security error is displayed and it cannot be started.
Next, after installing the kernel, I installed no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1.zip and Magisk.
While holding TWRP and Magisk, I was able to start and restart without any problems.
However, if NFC cannot be used and PIN code lock is applied, the lock cannot be released at all even if the correct PIN code is entered.
Please give me advice.

Thanks, Bob! Just like @neoquor, I am using a Snapdragon Note 9 (SCV40/SM-N960J) from the carrier au. I was able to successfully boot with the firmware of another Japanese carrier variant SM-N960D/SC-01L (carrier DoCoMo) and @klabit87 's N9600 klabit kernel.
Following the Magisk installation instructions from @topjohnwu 's GitHub, my installation was a bit windy (trial-and-error), but I (1) launched Odin and flashed my Magisk-patched SC-01L AP binary along with BL, CP, and CSC; and (2) after falling into the bootloop, I flashed klabit's official N9600 TWRP build, and (3) flashed klabit's N9600 kernel.
After that, success--finally! Dekita!

With this, Snapdragon Note 9 (SCV40 / SM-N960J) did not reach the boot loop and succeeded in rooting!
However, when I start it, "It's a non-genuine kernel" is displayed and I can't start some apps I want to use.
What should i do?

Dear NeoQuor, did you find any solution ?
I have the same problem I I flashed patched magisk with boot.img file it is flashed 100% but I'm not able to boot to android. it keeps restarting on the boot loop.
I just found one source this guy he is able to root SCV40
https://support.halabtech.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=folder&id=77034
i look forward to a solution for my phone to be rooted.
regards,
Sher

I also have SCV40, and the only reason I need to root my SCV40 because I need to edit and rewrite ro.confiq.tima=1 to 0 so that I'll be able to use S-Health, but in the end I can't root my SCV40, It is impossible, but I did rooting my friend's Note9 and it work well. I guess there's still no one can root SCV40 Until today.

Unofficial release -TWRP recovery for the Galaxy A7 - SM-A710F/FD/Y/M Exynos7580
UPDATE 14/4/2016: TWRP 3.0.2-0 released.
https://twrp.me/site/update/2016/04/...-released.html
TWRP is now v3.0.2-1
SEANDROID warning fix
New feature available in TWRP 3.0.0-0 is system image backup and restore and factory image flashing (see TWRP changelog for details)
Basically this means factory images from the official firmware can now be flashed with TWRP instead of ODIN. I have extended this feature to include BOOT, RECOVERY, SYSTEM, CACHE, HIDDEN and RADIO(MODEM) partitions.
This feature can be found under INSTALL >> INSTALL IMAGE >> select image to flash >> select partition.
NOTE: To flash the modem, first it needs to be renamed to modem.bin.img
F2FS support added.
Internal SUPERSU root option removed. This is to prevent boot loops on 5.11/6.0 devices
You flash this at your own risk. Please ensure you have the stock ROM to hand downloaded from SAMMOBILE in case of problems. This will trip the knox counter.
Instructions:
Flash with ODIN 3.10.7 in the AP slot.
Uncheck Auto reboot.
Load the respective file below into the AP slot and hit start.
After flashing immediately reboot to recovery by holding POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN.
As soon as the screen goes blank change to VOL UP whilst still holding the other buttons.
You should now see TWRP recovery.
twrp_3.0.2-1_sm-a710
PLEASE DO *NOT* DIRECT LINK TO THESE FILES. PLEASE LINK TO THIS POST
To Root:
Flash the file below with TWRP:
DO NOT LET TWRP ROOT YOUR DEVICE IF IT ASKS. USE ONLY THE FILE BELOW:
https://download.chainfire.eu/969/SuperSU/
DEVICE TREE: soon
NOTE: ON SOME ANDROID 5.1.1 DEVICES IT IS NECESSARY TO GO TO:
Settings -> Developer Options -> OEM unlocking
AND ENABLE OEM UNLOCK FIRST OR YOU MAY ENCOUNTER 'BLOCKED BY FRP LOCK' WHEN FLASHING.
Credits: Me, Teamwin and my testers - nhthiencp
Please note I don't own this device and spend a lot of my free time bringing these builds for you to use and benefit from.
FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED PLEASE.
THANKS.

works like a charm 100%

The stock firmware, but why would you?
Incase the mobile has boot loop
For safety i want the stock recovery
From twrp recovery installed xposed installer some times mobile will be in boot loop for that i want the stock recovery
How is stock recovery going to rescue you from a bootloop?
For that you need a custom recovery like twrp to simply make a backup first.
Kk thank u
Can we install xposed installer in A710FD
Please suggest me its working or not

TWRP 3.2.3-1 for Pixel Devices

TLDR: It's here and it may eat your data, and you will lose SuperSU root if currently installed. READ the install instructions carefully!
Pixel XL
Pixel
DO NOT RESTORE DATA FROM alpha builds of TWRP using RC1. You will probably lose all data including internal storage. If you need to restore a data backup from an alpha build, reinstall the alpha and restore using the alpha and make a new backup using RC1.
Note: Do not use if you have multiple users (including a guest user)
File Based Encryption (FBE) can be a bit tricky. If a restore doesn't work correctly, it can trigger an automatic wipe of your data. Sometimes TWRP will fail to prompt you to enter your password or otherwise fail to set up decrypt properly. If this happens, reboot TWRP. It seems to be some kind of timing issue and I haven't had time to track it down yet.
Pixel devices have 2 "slots" for ROMs / firmware. TWRP will detect whichever slot is currently active and use that slot for backup AND restore. There are buttons on the reboot page and under backup -> options to change slots. Changing the active slot will cause TWRP to switch which slot that TWRP is backing up or restoring. You can make a backup of slot A, switch to B, then restore the backup which will restore the backup of A to slot B. Changing the slot in TWRP also tells the bootloader to boot that slot.
The zip install method installs TWRP to both slots.
Installation:
If you already have TWRP installed: Download the latest zip and install the zip using TWRP.
If you do not already have TWRP installed: Download both the img and the zip. Copy the zip to your device. You will need to have fastboot binaries and the correct drivers installed. Power off your device completely. Hold volume down and turn on the device. Your device should now be in the bootloader. Connect the device to your PC. Open a command window and run the following command from the proper location:
fastboot boot path/to/twrp.img
This will temporarily boot TWRP on your device. If you are using a lockscreen pin/pattern/password and do not get prompted to enter your passord, reboot to the bootloader and try again. Go to install and browse to the zip and install the zip. If you are currently rooted with SuperSU, you will need to reflash the stock boot image before installing TWRP. After installing the stock boot image, follow the instructions for installing TWRP. Once TWRP is installed, grab the very latest SuperSU released on 2015-11-15 or later and install SuperSU.
If you accidently flash TWRP to your device using fastboot instead of temporarily booting the image, you will need to download the latest factory image for your device and reflash the boot image.
NOTE about 3.2.1-0: This version will decrypt Android 8.1, however the new image is built in Android 8.1 and may not be compatible with SuperSU and/or Magisk until they update their stuff. I have not tested. Good luck.
3.2.1-1 has working decrypt with the February security patch!
3.2.1-2 fixes some zip install errors
3.2.3-1 supports decrypting Android 9.0 Pie even with a pin / pattern / password set
How to install SuperSU SR5 on TWRP RC1: In TWRP tap on Advanced -> File Manager and scroll to and select the fstab.marlin or fstab.sailfish file and then delete it.
Amazing work sir! I think this is what we've all been waiting for! I mean I know I've been checking here frequently, hoping for this
Wow and so it begins, great work thanks!
Thanks

No I haven't downloaded anything yet. Not going to until I can have supersu alongside twrp.
Why does installation of this remove SuperSU?
Aren't they supposed to be used side-by-side?
And it also warns not to install if expecting important calls.
Does it prevent the phone apps from operating or what?
I understand everything else.

"In other words, Chainfire's systemless root method modifies the same binary that TWRP needs to modify in order to get data decryption working. Therefore, when you flash TWRP you are overwriting the changes made to the init binary by Chainfire's systemless root method. While this is a minor setback, thanks to the dual partition nature of the Pixel (and future devices shipping with Nougat), TWRP has some nifty new capabilities."
I'm pretty sure he's just saying dont chance something going wrong like it bootlooping or wiping data if you need your phone for something important like a phone call. Tough to answer said phonecall in a boot loop.

I finally got passed that issue. I had to flash factory images and erase everything to the point of being at setup screen. I didn't set anything up, no network or wifi, skipped Google sign in, no password and also no Google functions activated. This led to an unencrypted setup, so after turning on dev settings and Android debugging I booted up the image. Now my issue is the zip to install twrp for sailfish is corrupt and if you try to unzip it there are no files in it....I downloaded the marline zip and there are files when unzipped....

OK thanks, wondering if root will work with November update or of I need to roll back first. Prior to SU update today Nov update didn't work with the auto cf root

Root your Note FE

IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST:
The Note FE comes with dm-verity check and forced encryption enabled. You will need to remove this extra layer of security for root access. To disable dm-verity and forced encryption you must install TWRP recovery first on your Note FE. Note that disabling forced encryption and dm-verity requires a factory reset from TWRP recovery, so you should backup your data (internal storage) before you begin.
The next stage then will be to root the device by flashing the SuperSU zip via TWRP recovery. SU will also ensure that dm-verity and forced encryption remains disabled. Bear in mind, however, that a factory reset will restore them again.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Download Odin and drivers here: https://build.nethunter.com/samsung-tools/
Download TWRP for Note 7 Exynos: there are two versions: Korean and International:
Korean version: https://dl.twrp.me/graceltekor/
International: https://dl.twrp.me/gracelte/
Download the latest version of SuperSu here: https://download.chainfire.eu/1021/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip?retrieve_file=1
You should also download the stock firmware appropriate to your version of Note FE, just in case. Variants S & L can be found on Sammobile, and variant K is available here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634784008
ROOTING YOUR NOTE FE:
Read these instructions through carefully before you begin.
(1) Install TWRP Recovery on your Note FE via Odin.
(2) Boot your Note FE into TWRP recovery as follows:
(a) First switch off your device.
(b) Now Press and hold “Home + Power + Volume Up” buttons for a few seconds and as soon as you see your device’s logo on-screen, release the three buttons altogether. Your device will boot into TWRP recovery.
(3) Upon booting into TWRP recovery for the first time, you’ll get a prompt to allow system modifications. You should swipe right to allow this.
(4) On the TWRP main menu, select WIPE then select “Format Data”. You will need to type yes in order to proceed. This will clean wipe the entire internal storage on your Note FE (make sure you have backed-up your important files safe to restore later).
(5) Still in TWRP recovery, you should now connect your Note FE to the PC. (TWRP supports MTP connection so you’ll be able transfer files to the device.) Wait until your Note FE appears on your PC desktop (may take a while first time). You can now transfer the SuperSU zip to your Note FE.
(6) Go back to the TWRP main menu and select “Install” this time. Now you can flash the SuperSU zip.
(7) Reboot your Note FE.
You should now be rooted. Test using an appropriate app.
It would be helpful to others if you reported your experience and the outcome here.
Good luck.
Thanks again for using your device to test this bro!

Two possibilities why it's not working for you:
Try flashing TWRP with USB debugging off.
Are you placing the TWRP file in the right slot (AP) in Odin?
The last one is obvious, but it's strange that TWRP doesn't open for you.

Well, it works. But there may be minor problems. If we get enough reports we should be able to isolate these and see what can be done to correct them.
These are early days with FE so there will be little personal data on them yet. So this is a good time for some experimentation, especially as flashing stock is known to be successful.

Two possibilities why it's not working for you:
Try flashing TWRP with USB debugging off.
Are you placing the TWRP file in the right slot (AP) in Odin?
The last one is obvious, but it's strange that TWRP doesn't open for you.

I will try with USB debugging and I did place it in the AP slot

still no go with usb bugging off,
a question that is the only twrp version that is working for you now right

I used "twrp-3.1.1-0-gracelte.img.tar".
Are you formatting data? If you are, try flashing without allowing modifications and without formatting data. You won't be able to make use of TWRP in that mode, but try it and see what happens.
One last try: If the above fails, try entering stock recovery after you flash the stock firmware.
Finally, I have the K variant. It might be that the problem occurs because you have a different variant.
You could get the TWRP app (check the TWRP site). There is a specific version for korean telecoms (graceltekor). I've dloaded it and will give it a try tomorrow. But you should test the above suggestions first.

Which version did you use? I've just flashed the korean version myself. No problems. I'm amending the OP to give people a choice.
Glad it worked for you. Hope this will encourage others to take the plunge.

There's a 3.1.1-0 version of the korean version (graceltekor) too. Use the new link I added to the OP. I've tried both today, now that I have a better idea of what is involved. Both work fine, seems to be no difference between them - I mean, for our purposes.
But it's really good to have full root. Honestly never expected it to be this good.

Google for it otherwise. But you may be able to use one of the other variants. There was a discussion here. Not sure of the outcome, though.

[Updated/All Versions & Models!] Root OnePlus 7T Pro

How to root any version of the OnePlus 7T Pro!
1. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked!
2. Once you're unlocked enter the following ADB commands to extract your current boot image (Your phone needs to be on)
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot_a of=/boot_a.img
adb pull /boot_a.img pathinyourpc

3. Download & install Magisk Manager on your phone
4. Put the boot_a.img file on your phone
5. Open the magisk manager app and click the "Advanced Settings" button, then enable "Prserve AVB 2.0/dm-verity & Preserve force encryption", then select the top "Install" button and select "Patch to boot image" and select the boot_a.img
6. Now magisk will create a magisk patched boot image file, put that on your computer
7. Now enter the following ADB command
adb reboot fastboot
fastboot --set-active=a
fastboot boot pathtomagiskpatched.img
Click to collapse
8. Now you'll boot into the system, reopen the magisk app and click the top install button again and select "Direct install", then reboot
Congratulations you've now successfully rooted your phone!
EDIT: This guide is wrong.
Check these references for the proper guide to root. OP refuses to acknowledge it's wrong even when I pointed it out to him with proof.

Just a question, have you tried Viper4Android (if your use it)?: Use 2.7.1.6 stable version.
hi,
tryed it out.. When i boot your patched image.. there is no install button in magisk. It tolds me that i am already on the newest version.
Second.. WLAN isnt working any more. Cant enable wlan. When i reboot with stock img. everything is fine.

Yes it says its installed thats correct but you need to install it again in the magisk app so it stays after restarting the phone. I don't know about WLAN tho
Can you turn on Wifi ?
When i turn it on. It is disabled at the end.
There are similar problems in the 7t forums. Seems a problem with the used magisk version for the boot image.. did you use the canary magisk files ?
and yes.. I know why i need to install. But the linked version of magisk says only.. uninstall..
Edit: i have a european version of the oneplus 7t pro .. and can you provide the original boot image.
I can confirm I have successfully rooted using this method, and WIFI is working fine. Thank you very much, OP and everyone involved, no wits time to set up my device
Ah! Will do this immediately when I get home.
I tried magisk and now it loops to fastboot, does anyone know to recover from this? Does the msm tool for OP7T Pro?
edit: flashed the original boot img and boots fine, whever i try to boot magisk patched it bootlops because faulty drivers
to clear up, i tried installing viper4android driver directly from the app, so i guess theres residue left

did you install modules ? try booting the patched boot image from here and then, uninstall the modules again...
Works like a charm!
Minor thing you may want to clarify (I know you know, but to prevent confusion for readers), you give a warning that this will wipe all data, but that is not exactly true. Unlocking the bootloader wipes all data, but that step is not part of your instructions. Just following your steps on an already unlocked phone does not wipe the phone.
Thanks to everyone who made this possible so soon!

anyways, I fixed my bootloop by booting the unpatched boot img and then doing a factory reset in the settings, after that you can just boot to the magisk boot img again!

I'm not sure where the misunderstanding is coming from, I know that you give that warning. What I mean is that strictly speaking following your steps does not wipe the phone, unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone. But you don't have that step in your instructions. See what I mean? .
When I read your steps, I was like "wipes my phone how?" Maybe booting your image would wipe my phone or something? I'm glad it didn't .
I just thought for clarity's sake it would be good to make that clear in the steps that's all!

Stuck on Odin download

Haven't been on android in a while.
Picked up a galaxy tab a for free.
Tried to load unlock bootloader / install driver / install odin and twrp
now the unit only boots into odin download or samsung download
got patched odin and tried to install the firmware from sam site. Fails every time. Computer sees the device.
Any tips?

Not nearly enough info. What steps did you take? Did you succeed in unlocking the bootloader? Did the tablet reboot after that? Did in factory reset? Did you re-enable Dev mode and OEM? What version of Odin? What version of stock ROM do you have? Did you flash VBmeta Disabler?

I was not able to get supersu into the root folder, but I understood that if you turn on developer mode and OEM unlock, you had unlock. I have not been able to figure out how to get supersu into the root folder.
It did boot after that.
I am using odin 3.14.1_3b patched
using the usa rom from samobile T380DXU3CSL2_T380XAR3CSJ1_XAR
don't know what version of stock rom, but it updated right before I did any of this.
Did not know about VBmeta Disabler.

You need to do a lot more reading. Forget everything you know about rooting because it won't help with this tablet. There is a link in the first post in this tread about how to unlock the bootloader and enabling Dev mode and OEM is only the very first step. You can't do anything else until that is complete and each step is important. Also in the first post is the stock version you'll need to flash before flashing VBmeta and TWRP.

Ok I will do that, but since I am stuck in odin download will I be able to get supersu installed anymore?

Actually the thread you need to read is here. That has the link to instructions for unlocking the bootloader. Your next step will be to use Sammobile to download the stock version shown in that thread and flash it with Odin. That should get you back to a bootable ROM. Also, forget about supersu. Magisk is used to root these tablets.
edit: MY BIG MISTAKE. I thought you had a T500 tablet but looking closer to your post, you must have a T380 and the thread I linked won't work for a T380. You'll have to search for a thread for rooting your tablet. Sorry about that. I don't even know if the T380 has a locked bootloader. But your next step will be to flash the stock ROM you downloaded to get back to a bootable ROM.
