hotspot - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

I am on grandfather plan and want to use hotspot, but not available. I am on root and tried to add "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" on the bottom line in the build.prop and saved it and then open build.prop again to see if the line is still there but its disappeared. any idea?
sorry for my grammar.

Hi,
Did you give whatever app you're having permission through Magisk? Are you making sure that you are saving the build.prop after editing?
Thanks

Tweaks in Build.prop

In build.prop you can tweak a few things in gingerbread to modify certain things.
For 1080p recording go into root explorer and find build.prop under /system/ open in text edit and find ro.media.camcorder and change 720p to 1080p.
to enable hdmi mirroring find in the same file the line that says ro..hdmi.mirror.enable change false to true you have to have the apk installed and this will also interfere with entertainment center
note: reboot is required for these to take effect if anyone has anyother tweaks please reply.
Edit: sorry but you need to use root explorer!
This build.prop app can be used to tweak the setting as well. AFAIK this app will allow you to tweak the majority of the build.prop settings without using root explorer etc.

Another one to edit if you feel the need is wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=* <---This will help conserve battery with a higher value. Alien #1 is set to 90. I dont remember the default value. Increases the time between wifi signal scans. Saves battery!!!
Thanks guys this is great

You have to be rooted and have superuser. Thats the only requirement for this app that ive found.

I just removed app from superuser, uninstalled app. Re-installed app, upon launch it asked for superuser permission, allowed, tap Open*.prop file then tap /build.prop. That should gain you access, if not something isnt right.
Anyone else have this issue???

Im also having this issue (rooted with root explorer granted SU). Im not quite understanding your workaround. Did you uninstall root explorer entirely?
Also, I read somewhere that enabling 1080p doesn't increase the framerate, resulting in a quality of recording less impressive than 720p. Is that not the case here?

I'm confused, which number should go where? First you say 250 on delay and then you said 20 on delay. Lol.

I reinstalled to see if it gave me the read only error that others are getting and for me after I allow superuser permission i have full access to build.prop. I personally use File expert. Its free and in the settings you can select root explorer and then choose the mount option. Let me turn off root explorer in file expert and see if i can get the RO message.\
*edit* No RO only message. Changed back to RO in file expert, un installed file expert, uninstalled build.prop editor, cleared data from superuser. reinstalled build.prop---asked for superuser-allowed-full access again. I dont have anything special on my atrix. Just running alien 1. I ran this on Froyo as well.
Edit: deleted incorrect info

This thread is mainly to reference doing these tweaks using the "Prop Editor" app as discussed in OP...
You can use Root explorer but why when the app is in the OP and that is what he keeps referring to...

Access to /etc/system/permissions?

Hi Everyone,
The folder /etc/system/permissions/ is read-only. I want to add the SIP application to dialer but I get Read-Only file. How can I change that?
Thanks

No free apps for this?
The device is rooted and I can do su. Wondering why I can't use something simple as "su" to change permissions to the folder?
Thanks
For Ref: Free app, "Root Broswer Lite" does the job.

su
chmod +w /etc/system/permissions
+x adds write permission to the folder.

Why do you even want to build a flashable zip only to modify BUILD.PROP file? Just use Root Explorer and edit the file, save it and reboot. You'll see the changes.

How to hide NFC icon from statusbar?

I don't want it there, how can I remove it?
You need root. Edit your build.prop.
The easiest way is to use Build Prop Editor - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
Look for this entry -
ro.nfc.icon.enable
Select it, change the value from true to false and reboot when asked.

I would advise against editing anything else in your build.prop unless you know what you're doing, as you can stop your phone booting if you mess with the wrong thing.

Gyroscope for VR

Hi guys if anybody wants to enable the gyroscope here is a little guide to enable it
You must
1. rooted
2. on 6.0 marshmallow
Go to this download link and download https://mega.nz/#!pEEGFLbJ!scUWYUCZ_uGM7TyaaJPu7O8YfVgnk4DyCT7jSWCW35E
Then use root explorer and navigate to /system/etc/permissions and place the xml file inside with permissions of rw-r--r-- (0644) once changed, reboot then gyroscope should be enabled.
I dont want or take any credit for this post or guide as I found the details and links on here.
ENJOY!

Just put that file in correct directory, then select properties of file and set permission to 644, save.

I cant even put the file inthe permissions map, when i try, it says something like "this map is a read only map, do you want to change it to r/w" and if i click yes it says "operation failed"
just copy it to /system/etc/permissions directory with root explorer or total commander. You must give root permission to that app! check it!

If you would've read carefully on @sokkoban's Thread, You could see that he fixed Gyroscope for v2.0, so no need for you to do it anymore.
Could you share the fixed gyroscope for stock rom?
