3rd time I've accidentally triggered TalkBack and man it's frustrating! - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

By some accident key press I've done this a couple of times already and have used the assistant to turn it off, but damn it's frustrating. Is there any way to disable this either by killing the app or by removing the special key press? Thanks for your help. If it matters I'm coming from a Note 8 so the power button and volume are slightly different which is causing my issue.

Open settings, search for talkback, turn it off.

Of course I've done that but some key press combo reopens it.

Sleep Wake-up with every button

On my Tilt, EVERY BUTTON [except left, right, up, down, and select] will cause it to WAKE-UP from sleep mode.
How can I prevent this???
I would like just the OK button to wake up my device.
Thank you

I've never seen anything that allows this.. It's the four hard buttons (2 phone/win/ok) and power, or just the Power button.
It's in the Key Lock preference under System.
Personally I'd like it if I could do something like hit one of the four hard buttons and another button immediately after or it powers off. If I set it where all the hard buttons will turn it on I find it turned on every time I take it out of my horizontal pouch. But if it was set to some very simple key 'combination' it'd be easy to turn on myself (vs the tiny power button) but wouldn't stay on all the time in my pouch.
That is my point, either No buttons wake-up except the hard to get to power button or all buttons wake-up.
I there a registry hack that will allow the power button and one other button, maybe the OK button to wake the device up??

X1 Auto Key Lock?

Hey I was hoping that someone new of a registry setting or 3rd part app that I could use to automatically lock the keys of my X1 after a minute or so.
I can only find the option to do it with a password in the standard settings and I'm sure that would get annoying after a while so I was hoping to do one without, just like that standard key lock.
Any ideas?
For me after one minute it will lock automatically and can only restore it with the power button (can lock the keys manually by pressing the power button key too).
See Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advanced
Tick the second option and set your preferred time.
Do you mean the lock function from holding down the end call button?

Exactly, I would prefer that to the setting to turn the screen off and only being able to turn it on via the power button, if possible
Something like this. Have not tried it myself

Sorry if this isn't what you are after, but...
Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advance
On battery power:
[x] Turn off device if not used for: [3 min \/]
Start -> Settings -> System -> Key Lock
When device is in Sleep mode:
(x) Wake up the device by pressing the POWER button
...results in my phone going to sleep after 3 mins of no use, with the only way to wake it by pressing the power button (or to have an incoming call)

Yeah in those 3 minutes the screen takes any touch as an input though, while being in your pocket.
I don't get it, if you hold down the close call button the phone locks itseld and you get a click here to unlock screen if you touch the screen. Why can't the X1 have an option to enable this after x seconds?
Hell, my T630 has that.

What's wrong with the power button lock? It is almost the same, the difference is that you don't have to touch the screen to unlock but press the power button.
I don't understand at all this topic. The topic starter said he wants a lock without pressing anything after one minute. The solution provided by me and artesea is exactly that. Again the only difference is the unlocking method which instead using the screen you press the power button.
People are quite finicky these days....
I find this annoying also.
I now have to lock my phone (holding down the end call button) and then push the off button when I put it in my pocket. Would be better if theres an auto screen off and keyboardlock when you push the off-button.
Sorry, do we have different phones??????
To "lock" my phone I press the Power button, everything goes dark and I can put it in my pocket, doesn't matter if I hit the call button or tap the screen, the only way to "unlock" the phone is to press the Power button again.
If I forget to press the Power button after 3 minutes (but you can set this as low as 40 seconds) it "locks" the phone for me.
No need to press the End Call, or tap on the today screen.

I used to just press the power button and put the phone to sleep too... but then after a could long flight I found out that 1) if I put my phone in my jeans' front pocket (or actually... anywhere that have a chance to bump the power button), I can hit the power button and 2) once I hit the power button, the phone wakes for a couple hours trying to search for the network in the sky... and thanks god the plane didnt crash because of that but it did drain all the battery
I dunno if you have seen this too, but I realized that happened to me a couple times (not only on the plane but when I was walking as well) and eventually I decide I will hit the end call button to lock the phone before I hit the power button
this also happened when I had S2U2 installed... but since I didnt find it too useful (very nice if you want a iphone feel... but I already had an iphone for too long =P) and I dont want another application running in the background I decided to use the lock button instead
I was looking for automatic keylock too .. and then I too relized I don't need it ! Automatic screen-off is all I need.
For everyone who doesnt understand this thread, hold down the end call button and wwatch what happens.
The benefit is that yiu can see updates, email, sms, etc because the screen remains on for a while.

When i long hold the cut-call button, (which also has a lock icon on it) to happen automatically and is there a setting anywhere???
Try TouchLockPro, ever the best, even if just a few function is working on Xperia.
But actually this is what you are looking for.

How to make the long press of the Power button not to reboot the phone.

For some reason, my powerbutton is malfunctioning and there is no way to repair it. I wonder if there is a way to change the settings in the phone and not allow the power button when being long pressed to try to reboot the phone. Does somebody know how to tweak the phone and get this result?
Thank you.
I think pshutxp may help you here.
If I recall correctly you can set it to trigger the shutdown menu on a long press of the end key. You can then cancel the shutdown if the key has been pressed by mistake.
doubt it think it's harder connected as
even if my phone freeze 100% up
and that would mean that any software button setting
is not being enforced as the system is not responding
long press reset the phone
so I'd take that as it's not controlled
by windows mobile
I've remembered what it was now... it's not a feature of pshutxp, it was Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool that I was playing around with.
Use the key mapping feature to assign a program to the long press power key setting. I tried using this with pshutxp in the past.

I have to really thank you Dave!
I ended up fixing it by re mapping the power key using the Adv. config program and making the long press power key to call the Tasks program. I was in need of a program that was going to do nothing like the Tasks program which actually runs in the background.
Before, some months ago I used this same re map of the hard keys but calling a Power off program and it was very annoying. Key here was to choose a program like this one.

[Q] Power button problem

Hello!
My power button is broken, there is a way to remap other button to work as a power button? I'm using the Nova launcher that have a shortcuts section, so i puted the long press on menu button to run a app, "LockScreen" that locks the screen But it only works on the launcher, if i open another app, it doesn't work. In the System configs i desabilited to open the search engine if i long press the menu button. There is a way to make this works with all the apps? I'm using CM 10.2.
By the way, there is a way to power on the cellphone without pressing power button?
Thanks and sorry for my english!

I think that you can power it on by attaching it to charger and usb connected to pc. I remember that lot of people coplained that their phone can't be charged offline. But I am not sure if it is when you try to turn it off (and instead you will get reboot) or it works when the phone is offline.

I can't remember about CM10.2, I am on Liquid Smooth based on KitKat now, and it has harware buttons remap. And it does not have option for lock screen, but you can install some app for that and map it to use its process. Like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=sr

Thanks for the reply! Well... I'm using CM 10.2 and i can't find any option to remap the buttons, but i found one app on the PlayStore that makes what i need! "Button Savior Non Root" (Can't post links ) It adds virtual keys on the screen, and now i can lock the screen while i run apps!
But there is a way to turn on the phone without pressing the power button? If my battery get out of charge i'll have some problems to turn it on again... :silly:
Thanks again!
My brother has Samsung Galaxy S Advance and some problem too. Power button doesn't work so we couldn't turn on the device. If we did once, we will install an application which change the properties of Volume button and Power button. Is there any way to turn on the device?
Thanks.
SOLVED Press Menu button with Volume Up long time and I saw repair menu, select restart and turn on!

One bug so far with my device...power button

So recieved the device this morning, everything all good coming from a X2 Pro, however one weird issue I currently have (am on latest firmware) is that the holding the power button does nothing regardless of how long I hold it for, so I can't turn it off or restart. Double tapping it works fine and pressing once to unlock etc, so it's not a hardware issue, is anyone else having this? Firmware is CPH2305_11_A.16
Welcome to android 12 --- volume up + power (2s hold) = the new power button .... don't ask... google did it!
I'm guessing Google think people don't switch their phones off.
Very annoying

Actually this is OPPO's fault.
On Pixel 6 Pro "power key to launch assistant" can be disabled and then power menu is back when you long-press power key.
On Find X5, the option just disables assistant launch and no option to restore power menu...
That's so annoying and unnecessary. I'm also struggling to find a vibrate only mode. I can't believe a 1075 quid handset can't do the basics.

There is...
In the notification quick access it's the bell. That turns on silent mode. If you long press to go into the options one of the tick boxes is to vibrate on silent mode. So that's your vibrate only. Once it's set you can literally just then use the bell quick button to go between ring and vibrate
