The Tech Reviewers SMH ... - Google Pixel 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I've watched many reviews of this phone, and I must admit I think the reviewers are just being "tech snobs" about this one. Yeah the "P4" doesn't have the biggest battery, or the brightest screen, but for what it has, it works well for me. Every review I've watched is not a real review but instead a comparison of P4 against some other device that it seems the reviewer is more biased for. Example, why are we comparing the p4 against the iPhone 11, yes the iPhone is cheaper, however its a whole other eco-system and operating system that if a consumer is checking that out they probably aren't interested in pixels anyway. Also why is it compared to the Oneplus devices, yeah the specs for those look really good on paper but its also priced and specified to make a name for OnePlus also besides T-Mobile and online where can I really walk into a store and buy a OnePlus anything? Then its compared to Note10 and S10, again .. why? The P4 is a good device, its not the greatest spec'd thing out, but the reviews are not doing any justice for it at all. I personally have owned almost every US flagship in all of their variants (besides OnePlus) and the Pixel 4 (not the XL) I'm finding is the most satisfactory for me, I just wished face unlock was added only and the radar stuff was omitted until more functions were ready for prime time, but otherwise I really think that in day to day usage for the average consumer, not a tech enthusiast the P4 will work out just fine. As far as pricing, ask yourself what phone have you owned that was ever priced how you want it, lol in my world all these devices should only be $1.99 but since this isn't my world every phone that comes out will always be priced T.G.D.H. (see a Flossy Carter review for the meaning of that acronym)

Yep.
I bought a P4 to go with my S10.
The S10 is a fine phone, but I love pure Android.

iPhone 6 Plus = End of Note series?

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/note-4-sales-lower-than-early-note-3-interest
For the first time in history, the Note sold less phones than the previous generation. This is without a doubt due to the larger display phones from the obvious competitor, iPhone 6 plus.
If Apple continuous to improve phablet Iphones, and include a stylus, it will be the start of the end for the note series? you think?
The Note 4 was out of stock since day one here in France and most of the carriers haven't got their stock.
If it's the same in other country, I suppose sales figures are normal.
I think it's a lot because the Note 4 isn't really a big upgrade from the Note 3. There are also less differences between phones in general, upgrades aren't as interesting compared to e.g. 2 years ago. Market's getting saturated.
Its the first time they porbably cant produce note series its out of stock in everywhere. And in big markets note 4 sales started like 1 week ago.

This is a great example of manipulation. They are comparing sales of note 3 in it's first month, to sales of note 4 which is out for less than two weeks.
I don't think so. Yes, the note was always the obvious choice for anyone wanting a large phone.... There is so much more choice of large phone these days, but the note is still unrivalled when it comes to that additional feature set that the s pen brings.
I dumped the note series last year when Samsung came in with Knox and region lock etc. A load of BS in my opinion.
However, the note still offers a lot more than the iphone 6 plus ever could
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
This is extremely misleading. The Note 4 didn't roll out fully yet. Its only just currently rolling out in Western Europe, with huge markets like France getting it only last week. I've never been one to hate Apple, heck I use a Mac. But the new iPhone 6 plus is so far behind the note 4, there is no comparison, no threat, no competition.
as others have stated such a misleading article (and unverified at that).
only in south korea and china (i think) that the note 4 was released a full month
Lol they just started selling it few days ago worldwide!
And it's not even available in many countries, i can't buy it in mine!
"End of Note series?"... I can't!
Most likely it's supply issues to do with the hi-res AMOLED panels.
Whatever the case may be, it's ironic that this is even being brought up. Go back a month ago and read what the analysts were estimating for Apple's sales. Several were guessing that Apple sold LESS iPhone 6/6 Plus units that 5s units -- until Apple surprised everyone with their numbers. Until we hear from Sammy directly, I would hold off on pronouncing doom. These tech sites -- especially "trusted" reviews aren't necessarily bastions of reliability.

Lol... what is a IPhone 6 Plus?
It's just a IPhone like all other iPhones. Just bigger, that's all.
No additional features... nothing.
Note Buyers want not only a bigger screen!!!
IPhone 6+ comparison with any Note Series is bull****.
My Siemens S1 from 1998 is bigger then my Note 4! Is it better? WTF... why I have sold it? (ironic)

Still can't buy one here in Belgium. Stock has been delayed 2 times, so I guess sales shouldn't be that bad!
A fight broke out today in Apple's China facility. Witnesses say, 'It wasn't significantly different from any previous fights'.

There is nothing stopping Samsung from creating a Brand New line if their sales start decreasing dramatically. It's the oldest trick in the book. Change the name, make it appear to be an all new product. I can say first hand that I love my Note 4, and it's by far the best phone I've had to date. I played with an iPhone 6 Plus in the store for about 20 minutes. I was bored out of my mind.
I can't even buy it and I'm in California
Hilarious article and thread. Hahaha! Ended.
I highly doubt that the iPhone 6+ will be the end of the Note series. The numbers can be deceiving. Maybe Samsung didn't sell as many Note 4s because the Note 3s were such a good phone and people didn't find as much of an urge to upgrade. Samsung may not have sold as many in the first few days as Apple, but maybe that is because apple fans will wait in line for weeks to get their new phones, where all of us are wiser and have better stuff to do and don't have time to waste like that. There are tons of places that are sold out. I had to wait for a week and a half before they had one in stock.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. Large western markets and the high-end segment are saturated which is causing a sales and market share decline for all OEMs selling high-end products. Growth is in low and mid-range products in emerging markets where Samsung and Apple are both weaker and will make less unit profit if they pursue and compete against the Chinese and Indian OEMs. Both Apple and Samsung lost market share last quarter and will continue to in spite of the benefit of new high-end product launches which won't compensate for the far greater growth of other segments and regions.
As for phablets in general, they are a niche product and will continue to be outsold by smartphones through 2018 by a ratio of 2:1. Not every wants or will ever want a giant phone.
The iPhone 6 Plus was a horrible experience. Actually, ios 8 was a horrible experience.
It just.....didn't work.

Note 8 to V30?

Hey guys, I have been using the Note 8 for 6 months now and I like the phone over all. Few things I am not finding very comfortable are it's size and the weight. And in general gotten a bit bored of the phone. So, I had been to a local store yesterday and saw the V30 here in India. And I must say I really liked it. The design, the display, the form factor and over all appeal of the phone was really good. The only poor thing was it's front camera. But I am not selfie person so I can live with it. But the wide angle rear camera is dope. I hardly use the portrait mode on the Note 8. But I used to take lot of fun pictures with my G6. So I am thinking of switching to the V30. Has anyone here done it? Or own both the phones? Need some honest opinions
If you are just EVEN considering this, my advice is that you should do it, in my case I would NEVER consider using anything less than a samsung galaxy note series device, for me, it is all about the S PEN, the most unique feature among all other devices, what makes the note series devices stand out, you see, anybody who gets a note device should consider the s pen as the #1 reason, if not, the S+ series would be the logical choice, or other good real flagship for that matter, (LG, sony, apple, google, etc)
Haha. Thanks for the advice. I haven't been able to use anything other than Samsung phones in the last 4 years. And one Major reson for that has been the display and to an extent camera. I love the Note 8 and would have not thought of switching, had I not seen the V30. The V30 is much more comfortable in the hand because of its size, weight and form factor. Also, the POLED screen is so much more better than their old LCD displays. And I even compared the Note 8 to the V30 and to my surprise I sort of liked the V30 better. And even while playing those large 4K videos, the V30 was stutter free while my Note 8 clearly was not as smooth. Nevertheless, I am still super confused, as i fear that i might regret my decision later. I have spent a lot of money on the insurance and on the original Samsung case and resale value is bad here in India. But my gut feeling is to still go ahead and try the V30
Well, I thought I will be using the S pen a lot, but unfortunately dint use it after the first few weeks.
I agree, if that's how you feel go for it. Even if someone tries to convince you not to, you already have the thought & may not agree. But if someone tells you reasons why you should you'll probably agree because you have that thought already. People look for assurance to make big decisions, it's human nature. But this decision is yours, it's your personal preference, everyone is different & nothing wrong with that.
My past 2 phones were Notes, I'm a big fan of the SPen. I'm always up for change & consider others. I do look at phones other than Samsung whenever I get a new one. But LG is not one of them. I'm personally not a fan of any of their products except my room AC is LG, their phones & TVs, they never catch my eye. Quality & features seem lacking to me. Maybe part of it is the experience with them that I saw when I worked in OEM electronic repair. We always said that LG stood for Low Grade. Haha
It sounds like you are the type to get bored of phones & need to change often. In the US for T-Mobile we have a Jump On Demand program where after 18 months or something like that you can trade in your phone for some new model. Great for people who like to have the latest & greatest. Do they offer anything like that where you are? It will help your wallet to switch phones often.
Hahaha. I understand you. For me, LG has always been that brand which has come very close to replacing my Samsung phones But never succeeded. I have an LG 4K tv which I absolutely love. As far as the decision of buying the V30, I haven't made up my mind completely yet. I wanted to know from someone who has used both and if they had a strong reason not to switch from the Note 8, apart from its S pen feature of course. I am still in 2 minds actually, since I will be wasting a lot of money and Also, if I regret the decision later, I will definitely not be able to spend more to get back to the Note 8 for now. Haha.

Hahahaha. Absolutely!! You got me. I am that kind of person who get bored with phones very often. And unfortunately here in India we don't have such schemes. What a shame!!
To be fair I've never played with a LG TV so I can't really say I don't like them. LG crossed my mind before buying the Note 8. Then I decided to buy an Exynos Note 8 cause I can't live without custom recovery & root cause we only have Snapdragon in the US. But then again if it comes to the day when that's not an option I may switch from Samsung even if not available on other OEMs. There are some Huawei phones that seem nice, I think they will be a great competitor in due time if not already.
That sucks that resale value is low where you are. How about selling on ebay? I've never sold my old phones. Luckily I'm not the type to upgrade phones every year, that would definitely not be good for my wallet as flagship phones cost way too much these days.
Unfortunately, It's all the same here whether you sell it on eBay or any other platform. Nevertheless, i might not buy the V30 if i dont sell my Note 8 for a decent price. Lets see

OP do as you please. Your money and your choice. V30 excellent phone. LG blows away EVERY phone in audio away. The new LG V30 coming out soon. The LG V30 ThinQ? LG sales have been pretty bad. So now they do slight upgrade from last year flagship huh? Even the new V30 only thing it has over Note 8 is better chip and audio.
Regular V30 only had better audio then Note 8. I do agree V30 looks better. The curved screen is worthless. I'd still take Note 8 over V30. I use to be a die hard LG fan. If you do rock LG stick with V series! There other phones have crap build quality.
Worst build quality I've ever dealt with. Stick to V20, V30, V? Etc.
Even the V series is slightly risky according to some and this lawsuit below. Sales have been so bad rumors that LG canned LG G7. Kinda concerning to invest in a company like that? LG made Pixel 2 screens which is having a bad time with screens.

So, i could finally come to a decision after i went back to the store again today and played with the V30 for good amount of time. Well, i did one important thing before going to the store, which is, replaced my Note 8 official protective standing case with a local 360 degree case. This had already made a lot of difference in how i felt the Note 8 in the hand. So, while i was checking out the V30 today at the store, i did all the possible tests on how better or worse the screen is compared to the Note 8 and how good or bad the camera is and over all how the feel of holding it is, against the Note 8. But when i finally started typing on the V30, trust me, it literally felt like a toy. I had not felt that way until that moment. I immediately went back to my Note 8 and typed on it and i knew i had the better phone with me. Also, like i said, i had changed the case to a much lighter one which had already made the difference. But when i did try typing on the V30, i knew why i had paid those extra dollars for the Note 8. Happily came back home and not going to probably check any other phones until the Note 9 or Pixel 3 XL comes out. Thanks again for all the responses. My Note is here to Stay for longer
Edit: Changing the case to a lighter one would have made it more vulnerable to breaking, but hey, what is the insurance for after all?
Good decision

That's why I don't bother upgrading every year, waste of money IMO. Usually need 2 generations to see worthy differences. Same with Android versions, need to 2 letter versions to see noticeable differences. That's why I don't understand why everyone was so anxious to get Oreo. Now that it's here, nothing exciting about it & different than all the past Oreo reviews.

Agreed 100%. 1k a year for a phone? No thanks. $500 not to bad. Yeah Oreo doesn't seem much different. We should get Android P, but that will be a while. Like you pointed out usually takes 2 generations to see a worthy difference. In regards to new features and better specs. Some people want newest phone though. For those people do as you will. Others that on the fence really read into what we're saying.

Poor S9 sales

Samsung admits the sales are bad.
Do you think the sales are bad because people are finally getting sick of the bloatware or the incredible high price tag ?
Do you think S10 sales will be better ?

The S9 is my first Samsung phone and I bought it because of the stereo speakers and improved camera. They didn't catch me with the S8 but it did impress me when it came out.
Bad sales depends on a lot of factors. Ever increasing competition from Chinese OEMs, especially Hwawei, incremental changes to a phone that has already exhausted its sales or maybe wrongly assuming that you have achieved the same footing as Apple.
I'm impressed with the S9. It still stands out from the competition and I don't get the feeling that I'm missing out on anything another phone has to offer this year.
I dont think the price is high at all.
It's half the price of the iPhone X in my country..

That doesn't mean anything, everything is half the price of overpriced Apple stuff
Remove Apple from the comparison and it becomes expensive
I think the regular user don't mind about the bloatware, unfortunately. For me, the bloatware and this disgusting curved display it's what most annoys me.
The camera on Samsung phones are the best point for me.
Idk but I am enjoying my S9. I wanted the OP6 for 500€ but when I saw that I can buy S9 for 550€ the water resistant, better display, camera, expendable storage and wirelless charging is worth that extra 50€.
Odoslané z SM-G960F pomocou Tapatalku
I was still on the S4 before the upgrade to the S9. The S8 just wasn't enough for me to upgrade but the S8 is so close to the S9 I can see why the sales are poor. For me it was a HUGE upgrade.
It's probably because of the bad publicity it got in regards to the American version Vs the rest of the world, the exynos battery life was abysmal, it's better now but still now where near as good as the Snapdragon version.
It is the most I've ever laid for a phone but all in all I'm happy with it. I used Moto phones from the original Moto G through the G4, mainly because they were easy to root and develop roms. Their purchase by Lenovo, a company that would have trouble engineering toy phones killed Motos' for me. Having owned a long line of Samsung tablets made me try the S9. I can now add Samsung to my list of Moto, LG, Huawei/Honor, and Nokia. The curved screen? Meh
I think people have finally had enough...
I loved the screen and camera of my S9 but the OP6 just seemed like a better fit for my needs since I like very smooth and fast performance and while the s9 did that to some extent, it could also become a bit slower than I liked over time. In the end I sold it for the OP6 which turned out of be a better choice despite being a "cheaper" or "inferior" phone.
1+6, g2 vs980, redmi n3 mtk, moto e condor
I think the bad sales numbers are due to people not needing the newest greatest phone every year anymore when there is not a great new feature added to them. For me this is my first Samsung device since the galaxy s2 or something. I was a die hard stock android/nexus fan for years and then when the nexus phones died I have been lost and trying different phones when needing another phone. First few post nexus phones was various moto phones as they use a close to stock version of android but I really wanted to go with a top tier phone that I could get financed threw my carrier and I feel stock android has became a little on the stale side so I went with the s9. Truth be told I really like it. I don't like bixby, or the stock launcher (I am actually using ruthless launcher which is a pixel launcher clone) but some of the built in Samsung apps are quite impressive to me like Samsung pay (still messes with peoples head when it works after they say it won't) or the Samsung browser that is like firefox and chrome had a baby and made that awesome thing. having a built in theme installer is kinda cool (again I guess me looking at stock android for so long I was bored with it as it hasn't changed that much in 2 or 3 years.)
It's because the S9 is not much different from the S8.
People are still happy with their S7's and S8's. It's that simple. S7 camera and performance is still great in 2018.
When you release something like every year like this I have a S8 And will either get a note 8 or 9
S9 isnt no where near enough of upgrade. And unless Galaxy S X is extraordinary Prob wont be going for that one either
The biggest thing with their numbers on S9 is the sales they had with S 6 7 and 8
No one sees enough to upgrade yet
The average person doesn't know or care what an "exynos" is or the pros and cons compared to stock Android etc. I think it's just because it's an incremental upgrade - no real obvious difference from the S8, so people looking to upgrade will say "huh, it's exactly the same" and not bother.
Or maybe it's because it doesn't have a notch. That seems to be a fashion statement these days. I hope and pray that Samsung doesn't fall for that particular fad - they've managed to steer clear so far.
I got mine very heavily subsidised by EE (by my most conservative calculations compared to SIM-only it cost me £320 or so. There are other ways you can argue that it's pretty much a free phone). Buying outright from Samsung they're expensive but carriers are almost handing them out in the street right now.

Why buy Samsung ?

I understand many people do not care Samsung Devices are loaded with bloatware, but the price !!!!
I can not justify spending $1000 plus for a phone, especially when you can buy devices with relatively clean Android, hardware as good and in some cases better for $100s of dollars less.
How does somebody buy a Samsung device for say $1100.00 when the can but a OnePlus for $600.... ?
For me, the most important factor is the screen. Samsung is the only manufactorer I know that has the best screen, great hardware, and decent software. The bloatware could possibly be removed and I wish it could be cheaper.
I am actually using a Pixel 3 XL now. The software is clean but boring. I am mostly disappointed with the hardware. That I why I am waiting for the GS10.

I actually love my Pixel 3Xl and got tired of Samsung taking 6 + months to update the phones to new OS. After owning every generation of Note, I got tired of no root and locked down bootloaders. Despite the great screens, I'm staying on the pixel side.

First thing is that I love the Galaxy series.
Why Samsung??
All I am gonna do is just browse through Internet, social media, capture some decent looking pictures and I need phone with a display which is best in industry and has a great design and build quality.
When I think of all these the only thing that comes to my mind is the Galaxy series. I agree that OP phones are faster than the galaxy series but when it comes design and build samsung is well better.
Best quality display is keeping the samsung unique in the market. Viewing angles is great in samsung displays. Especially in camera it has variable aperture and a super slow motion. And still it has a headphone jack and micro SD slot.

Samsung devices are not, the provider branded versions are, but that is equally true of all branded devices.
The Samsung Device that would be in the $1100 price range is going to be light years more advanced in power, storage, and just tech in general than the $600 one from OnePlus. Now if you Compare the $600 Samsung device to the $600 OnePlus device then you getting closer, but the Samsung device is still going to be more advanced, the gap just will not be nearly as big.

Samsung doesn't take that long, unless it is a rather old phone. The people taking that long are the Wireless providers who take their sweet time removing all the good stuff and adding different bloatware.

I really wish that Samsung would just start getting some of their CDMA radios from Intel, that way we could get an Exynos chipset with an unlockable bootloader that is easily useable on Verizon and Sprint.

I beg to differ from you. While preliminary versions of Android Q are already being worked on and tested in the wild, my Note 8 still sits on Oreo. I know there is an unofficial version of Pie for it, but not the official version yet . This is over 7 months after Pie was released. I've had every note that came out except the original. I bought my Note 8 on day 1 when it came out and paid about $950 after taxes. It was by no means a cheap device at the time. At the time, people who had unlocked exynox versions were upset because their updates which were supposed to come directly from Samsung were taking even longer than the carrier ones. Read up on it. Samsung + carrier delays are horrendous. IMO, It's embarrassing that what was once considered their top device would take 7+ months to receive an official software update.

The Note 9 came out with Oreo as well as pretty much all the other myriad Samsung phones in that same release year. The Note 8 getting Pie only 6 months (the global Samsung release is this month) after Pie is officially released is impressive given the number of phones ahead of it. If your phone is not getting it this month it is due to the branding of your phone and that wireless provider holding it up.

Global release means nothing if only a few people get it or only a few versions of the phone get it at that time. The point I'm making is that IMO it's pathetic Samsung takes even 6 months to update the OS on a phone that was a flagship when it came out a bit over a year ago. The Note 9 is all they care about right now since it's the latest one out but soon enough once they have your money, they'll care only about the S10. IMO, Samsung has an obligation to upgrade phones quickly and timely, specially on devices they charged nearly 1k and were/had flagship status when released. Meanwhile, phones like the Essential (practically unknown and on sale for $239 on Amazon get it on the day is released by Google). I clearly get the concept of skins added on to the OS to provide extra features which adds to testing time etc... but IMO 6 month + is a pathetic timeline for a flagship phone. As per your thinking, I suggest Samsung adds a disclaimer to the box of a new phone which states "Due to the impressive number of phones made ahead of yours, updates will come on this flagship 6+ months after the official release date". I wonder how many people would buy it if they came clear and admitted it? As much as I love Samsung (proof is that I've owned almost every note), I do not excuse their shortcomings when it comes to OS updates.

Samsung offer a lot more hardware than a OnePlus. Waterproofing, headphone jack, heart rate scanner, better cooling/heatsink. Also wireless charging, MST payment (very useful in Asian countries where NFC payments are non existent), better screen, better camera.
I have owned both OnePlus(3) and Samsung (Note 8) devices. In general, I have observed that the Note 8 receives monthly updates which are extremely stable. Whereas OnePlus has released half baked updates (like 7.0 for OP3) followed by hotfixes.
Honestly, if OnePlus for still around the 450$ price, it would be unbeatable.
Edit: Forgot pressure sensitive home button.
Apple updates its iOS software incrementally over the year until a revamp of the operating system is released before new iPhones come out in September. The same can also be said of Android where the operating system gets a new refresh once a year. Two different O/S ecosystems, two different O/S update systems. You can't make everyone happy.
LOS support "forever".

Well no more with s10...
The galaxy S10 is actually cheaper than the 2017's iPhone X in my country :/
We can pre order it for 929$ with a free galaxy watch and a free wireless charger, while the iPhone X is for 950$+
Also the apple "lower end" iPhone XR is more expensive than the S10...
I am talking about the regular S10, not the S10 plus or the S10e.
Samsung offers more than apple and is still cheaper, it offers more than any android phone also. They have everything you can ask for in a smartphone.

New iphones and ipad screens are pretty dang amazing. I didnt think so till my wife won the latest gen ipad pro at work in a contest. The screen is by far superior to any samsung tablet or phone I have seen.
To me there is no other brand other than Samsung - 0 competition. Sammy has everything in one device and that's why I love them. You don't need to have the latest Android update right away as many features are already existent in the device even if it's on an older software version. Best screen, best camera, has headphone jack, ultrasonic fp scanner, super premium build, amazing hardware. List goes on, I'm just waiting for them to get rid of the hole(s) and will get that Note (10 or 11 hopefully).

Note 10 is a definite no. The Note 10 will be pretty much the S10 with a slightly larger screen and S-Pen goodies. They've never strayed too far from the S line when it comes to the Note. It's bigger, more powerful, etc. but it usually doesn't stray far from the S version of its year.

1st off I always buy the unlocked version of the latest Galaxy S phone so I do not have all the nasty bloatware which comes from the carriers. The unlocked versions are very clean.
Regarding price, I'm looking at pre-ordering the S10+ for $999 (It will end up costing me $599 after trading in my old phone + using a gift card from xmas) Yes it will be the most I've ever paid for a new phone, but Samsung screens cannot be beat. I love the triple camera (which just received the highest camera rating of any cell phone from DXO - tied with Huawei Mate 20), ultrasonic FP reader, headphone jack, SD card slot, waterproofing, wireless charging, and pre-orders are coming with free Samsung AirPods. I also really like the automatic 42% blue light reduction. That should help alleviate some eye strain. I like that the Sammy AirPods can charge wirelessly by simply setting the case on the back of the phone.
Having said all that, I am disappointed the S10 has only increased the charge rate by 29%. I was hoping for something closer to 100%. That is one area where I feel other phones like OnePlus and Huawei have an advantage in charging speed.
In any case, I will pre-order the S10+, but in the future I will certainly be watching carefully the OnePlus 7, MI 9, and other high end but less expensive phones.

???... I hope u know that those screens are from Samsung... but nice try

Question Are you getting a Pixel 5a?

It looks really good, but without a 90hz or higher screen, it's difficult for me to justify.
I am curious if we can trick Google to recognize a 5a as a 4a 5G, for some free "High quality backup" in Google Photos - as there aren't many differences between the two devices. Same silicon, same RAM and storage configuration, almost the same screen size.
I pre-ordered one. I got talked into it while asking about security/software updates on a budget phone forum here. It is more than I expected to spend, but people made me realize I don't know how to quantify the extra costs/risks of other manufacturers adding their own software on top of the android part that Google is patching.
I would be happy to pay less and reduce the specs further in some ways, but I am thinking about it as cost per year of software support, so I won't consider the older models that already have 1 or more years of their software life spent on the shelf... I'd probably be satisfied if it had 4GB RAM, 64GB flash, and LCD instead of OLED but with the same software. I am interested to see how the 5G works out w/ T-Mobile. (Edit: for reference, my current phone is a Moto G7 Play with 2GB RAM, 32GB flash, and a 720 pix wide screen. It is usable for me, but definitely shows its limits...)
Our last Google phone was a Nexus 5X. We went on a budget quest after that, thinking pixels were too expensive. We thought Moto was a decent value for a while, but I've been growing unhappy with their worsening software support. I.e. only 2 years and not even monthly on the budget models.
Yep, preordered mine.
No, I ordered the Galaxy S20 Plus from Google Fi for $50 less than the Pixel 5a. I am not a Samsung fan, but that's too much phone to pass up for $399.
Undecided. Would like the larger screen. If TWRP was an easy install (compared to 4a), would jump on it. Will probably wait another year (or two).
Personally, I will not. But I hope that people will be okay with the stuff that we see. It’s a lot of aspects that have been made with the stuff that we can talk about. It’s really cool that there have been solid phones over the years and I love that the Pixel continues to be a strong Android phone.
I was going to, but the camera overheating issue worries me. Want to see if that's prevalent in a wider adoption first.

If I'm not mistaken the 4a5g as well as the 5 all have the same camera setup and all experience the same overheating issue. Therefore, if this is true and Google has not "yet" done anything to resolve the issue then either they are unwilling to fix the problem, or they are unable to do so. I'm still getting one because I rarely even use the camera on any phone.
I did pre order the Pixel 5a for myself, will get rid of my iPhone 12 Pro Max then. Last Pixel I used and still have as a secondary home device is the Pixel 4 XL, which I loved, except for the absolute crap battery life, that thing blew for battery stamina, other than that running Android 12 beta 4 on it and it's smooth as hot butter.
If the Pixel 5a has similar smooth performance as my 4 XL, I'm fine with that, but I really need great battery life for my job out in the field a lot and on the go, don't have time to charge often. And I thought last years Pixel 5 was a bit too small, and I find my 12 Pro Max a bit too large, so an in-between phone size is exactly what I want, and good battery life. 6" display too small, and 6.7"+ size too large.
Like I said if the 5a has similar smooth performance as my 4XL, then I'm all good.
And man I can't wait to be rid of iOS, just such a frustrating OS and screwy way it works and Apple Maps blows.
Pre-ordered one from Google Fi for the wife. $15/month for 2 years including insurance on their subscription plan. She doesn't want to give up her Nexus 6P so I may change over to it from my Pixel 3XL.
I want to but currently I'm on a 4a and since it's not available in Canada, I'd have to jump through hoops to get one. I have a feeling Google will be asking too much for the 6/pro. I paid over $1000cnd for the Pixel 1 & 2, then dropped back to the 3a and now the 4a. I'm more than happy with the A-series phones.

I'm no expert on things Canada, (though I was born there) but seeing how close it is to the US, and if the phone has the necessary LTE/5G bands could you not somehow import one at US prices?

There in lays the trick. Apparently Google is clamping down on such shenanigans. Currently it appears my option is to have a friend who lives in Japan, order a US version, ship it there and pay import charges, then have him ship to me. I'm guessing but that'll put the cost of 5a into the 6/pro price range... And if that's the case, I'd be better off getting that directly from Google.
I'm the meantime, I'll hold onto my $'s and see what's what with the 6 and 6Pro and decide then. After all it's not like my 4a isn't doing the job
I pre-ordered. I have been holding out on replacing my 2 XL. No newer features, even flagship, were that appealing and I held out as long as I could since I cracked the screen on the 2 XL. All I need is stock android updates and long battery time. I don't play games, so not terribly concerned with the 60hz.
I preordered one as well. My first pure google phone. Can't wait to give it a try.
Pre-ordered mine along with the pixel a buds. Definitely looking forward to it. I know ill likely get one of the 6's as well lol.
I received notice that mine shipped today. It's supposed to be here Friday EOD.
If it ever launches in India, I am getting 2.
Oh well, started the RMA for mine this morning. Freezes up too often when streaming YouTube videos. Hesitates too much when scrolling through web pages. Gets hot using camera. Still on June 5th patch???? Hate the Pixel launcher. Had to put Nova on it! Just cannot compete with my OnePlus 8T. Say what you will about the evolution of OnePlus...but my last 3 phones from them have all been great! Still hard to beat for the $$$$$ I highly doubt that I will ever buy another Pixel. $35.00 restocking fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SMH
