Issue: No Voice Turn By Turn Navigation - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

Hello,
My new pixel 4xl is working great except for 2 reasons. The main one being I don't get turn by turn voice navigation. I get no voice at all when navigating. COnsidering I drive for Uber on the side this is very bad.
I checked all settings and they are all correct as far as I can tell - play over bluetooth and everything is on. Doesn't matter if I am on BT or not, nothing. I've tried rebooting of course.
Help?

Did you by chance hit the mute button while navigating? I normally turn mine off and it stays off

hey that's Mississauga!

That's really strange. And you said even not on Bluetooth, so the phone's speakers, you're not getting navigation sounds?

I uninstalled the beta google maps and now they work. I re-upgraded to the beta and they still work.

Nice you got it working. I'm on beta too so must've just been a random issue.

Hello,
I am unable to set a custom alarm tone. I tried putting the ogg file in alarms and notifications, but just no luck.
Also the button backlights just don't seem to turn on.

Very stable, could be new FW forces higher voltage to WiFi unit, even the range is slightly extended. I noticed it because I get better signal in bathroom
@alray No keyboards support my language, so having swype or something like that is useless. But I will try with others, just for the sake of vibro

You are not forced to use the swipe functionally if you don't want, even if using swiftkey. You can change the vibration in swiftkey to what you like.
Any fix for the backlight issue?

There is one thing you can try if your device is rooted. Not sure if it will work but if you go to play store and download keyboard backlight controller by deskangel, and then open it and tap lock on backlight it might work.

It works, but the buttons remain lit even after you turn the screen off.
Make sure "only when screen on" is enabled. I cant test it because I don't want root anymore

[Q] OK Google from screen off

Just got the Nexus 6 and really like it, but I loved being able to wake up the device by doing OK Google on my old Moto X. Can you do this with this device? It isnt working for me and I thought I read somewhere that you could.
Thanks in advance.

yes you can. Just have to configure it in google settings.
Yep works a little funny sometimes but I figured out that when my phone locks and I say "ok google"(mines set to lock after 15 secs of pressing power), it only wakes the phone. If you press the power button and it doesn't have a passcode, it works fine
So checked my settings and everything under google now enable is greyed out. I am in the US and have English us selected but says not supported with the language. Any ideas?
Mine is working completely fine. I have OK Google working from anywhere on English.
So odd. Are you rooted and running 5.0.2?

Wi-Fi

On every rom i flash i loose WiFi until i reboot is that a known problem or just me
Thanks
It's a problem on your end. Wifi working great here. More information on your set up would be needed.
Try flashing a different kernel?

Could it be possible that one of your apps is causing your WiFi to not work properly? Such as.. battery saving apps.

Thats very weird that Light Flow affected your WiFi. I personally had used Light Flow and had no problems. I stopped using it because of the constant superuser requests.
Glad to hear it was resolved

That I know, but it causes additional battery drain for the constant requests etc. It's mentioned in the light flow thread that it causes wakelocks.

Screen doesn't come on when waking phone with OKAY GOOGLE

Anyone else experiencing this?
When the phone's screen is off but not yet locked, I try to "okay google" to send a text or set an alarm/reminder or ask a query, the screen doesn't come on. You can still send the text or perform the activity but the screen is off.
I experience this sometimes
Turned out for me Google on tap causes this. Anytime it's disabled okay Google from sleep works perfectly.

This happened to me a while ago. I just cleared "Google App" cache and data and worked fine afterwards.

Don't forget that after clearing the apps data you will have to retrain Google Now's voice model (saying OK Google 3x's).

No go for me. cleared it, set everything back up and screen still says black when saying "OKAY google" although it still works but the screen just doesn't come on. I have to disable google on tap for the screen to turn on when initiating an "okay google" command from sleep.

"ok Google" not working

Anyone else? P4xl
Only works after I've opened the app
Occasionally when I unlock my phone after being asleep it won't respond to ok Google...
Battery opt is off
Cleared cache with no luck

A few reports of the same on Aussie Whirlpool. I wonder if it's language setting bug.
Mine is fine so far, but I'm still stuck on the old Assistant due to having a GSuite account on the P4XL.

Noticed it since moving onto the new assistant
I have the same issue. need to open open first before it works. i think it started to happen on dec build for me
Same here since running custom roms...
Any known fix? Pretty annoying not being able to use a feature properly
Weird, I have the opposite problem. It's overly sensitive for me, it'll just randomly go off in my pocket when I'm having a conversation
