[Question] A DIY way to add microsd support?? - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

So the other day i was wondering if there was a way for us to add microsd card to this phone which is specially needed for those with 8/128 variant
Because Rog 2 has 2 usb type c ports there are lots of possibilities, maybe we could use one of them to connect to a microsd card slot(if we could find a tiny microsd to type c connector)
or maybe we could make a case with a built-in type c connector and the ability to put microsd in!
as we know there has been some case models for some phones that have had a built-in battery that could connect to phone with an also built-in micro-usb/type-c port, or some other cases/covers that have a type-c connection and ability to connection controllers, like the Rog 2 kunai case that bundles with kunai game pads
My third thought was to find(or make) something like the picture attached below, a microsd adapter that can be bent and attached to the back of the phone, it wouldnt be that hard, would it??
any ideas or suggestions on this matter?

DIY Micro USB to PDMI adapter

I just wanted to share what I'd done for my streak in order to quit carrying a cable around everywhere. This is just a quick outline of what I did and supplies I used to make it.
Disclaimer:I am in no way responsible for your warranty getting void, phone blowing up starting ww3 or any other faults that may be the result of attempting this
Parts list:
1x streak usb cable
http://www.ebay.com/itm/16065922734...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_1286
1x micro usb to mini usb adapter
http://www.ebay.com/itm/25098693990...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3016wt_1035
1x old dvd case
5 minute epoxy
Optional:
small piece of carbon fiber vinyl
what to do:
-cut micro usb out of its rubber/plastic shell
-desolder all the wires
-cut the streak cable close to pdmi connector
-refer to this site for usb diagram, make sure to note that there's one pin that gets skipped over on the micro usb adapter
http://pinouts.ru/SerialPortsCables/usb_cable_pinout.shtml
-solder wires accordingly refer to my pictures if you get lost (the pdmi cable comes with all the wires correctly color coded)
-plug into streak and see if it works
-if everything works proceed to make a plastic shell for it out of dvd case
-use a little bit of epoxy to mount everything and keep it from sliding around
end result should look something like this

Hi I'm not trying to negate the value of your guide in any way. I think a permanent mod to a compatible connection makes a lot of sense, especially if one never plans on using a Dell Streak 7 dock. However, if you're not that motivated and or aren't willing to brick your device this is a great $8 solution: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140853176551?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649.
The cable you linked to wouldn't work, because the jack on the non-PDMI end is a USB A female connector, which accepts the end of the USB cable (USB A male) that normally plugs into the laptop or PC itself. To make it as useful as the DIY adapter the OP mentioned would require you to dismantle the host adapter and replace the USB A female jack with a MicroUSB B female jack.
PDMI connector to mini usb connector
Hello man. My name is Mario. I come from Italy. I'm a psychologist, but on the spare time I like to play with linux & mobile & tablet & technology in general. I was searching for a OTG adapter that was able to recharge my nexus 10 and at the same time that accepts an external sd card and someone has suggests this to me :
eKit 4 in 1 Data Sync Connection Kit For Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 & Note 10.1
you can read the full story here :
http://android.stackexchange.com/que...-the-same-time
the problem is that I haven't read very well what he says and I haven't understood that it is not good for the nexus 10. For this reason I have tried to search a way to convert the PDMI connector to a mini usb connector and I have found this thread. I would like to ask you if I can make the same thing that you have done and if you can tell me which electric modification I have to make to the board of this connector to convert it as a mini usb connector. Thanks.

[Q] Can Galaxy Note read other Memory?

Hi All,
I have what may seem a strange question for you... Is the Galaxy Note able to read information from other Memory Cards via its micro usb port?
Let me explain....
I am off on my travels fairly soon and am wanting to travel light. I will be taking my camera and Galaxy Note in lieu of a laptop.
What I am wanting to do, is view the pictures that I have taken on my camera (which only has a 3" screen) on my Note which obviously has a larger screen.
The cards that I use in my camera are micro SDHC in full sized SDHC adapters, so in theory I could take them out of the adapters and put them straight into the memory slot on the Note.
I don't really want to have to keep taking the back of the phone off to do this though, so I was wondering if I could slot the memory card, via a cable or adapter (which I have found on ebay) into the micro usb port on the bottom of the Note and it be able to read the contents of the card.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Sorry for all the waffle but I need you to understand the method in my madness.
Thanks in advance.
Neil
if there are usb adapters for the same, then i guess it should work. because pen drives and few portable hard drives do work flawlessly when connected to the Note.
Thanks for the help Guys. My adapter arrived today and when I hook everything up, the images from the camera memory card show up in the Note's Gallery. Perfect!
If anyone is interested, here is the adapter that I bought....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300603100...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1966wt_1139
I then simply plug a usb card reader into the usb end and the micro usb end into the Note and away I go.
Cheers all.
Neil.

Hw mod: add an internal memory card holder?

Since this device lacks the microsd expansion slot, I was thinking to add it internally. I don't know yet if it's possible, but my idea is to add it in the sim card empty slot.
Do you have any clue about it?
Let's open a "project"?
Here is the mainboard of the 7310.
The idea is either we find another part of the mobo like the one ready for the simcard, hopefully ready also for a memory card holder, or we connect a generic sd holder to the usb pin of the main connector of the tablet.
Here is another piece of information... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118986
Thanks, very useful.
Well it should be feasible, it's enough to connect the usb pin, but there are some questions to be answered.
1) If a memory card is inserted will a device connected to the 30pin connector work? Or does work only 1 device per time?
2) Will this kind of connection work like a normal microsd holder connected to the mobo by default microconnector? I mean, will it use more power, will it drain battery faster because voltages etc..?
3) will it be useful due to the possibility to install apps?
It's important to have answers to these questions, but the operation is very feasibile.
Well, I'm thinking that this mod using the usb pin doesn't worth the trouble.
Usb needs 5.0v and it's too much. Using 5.0 continously drain a lot the battery.
Instead a stock 3.3v powered microsd, is far lower battery hungry.
The problem is to find on the mobo the pinout (if present) to connect a microsd holder.
Gt-P7500 is ready for this connector, but as far I saw on pics of 7300's mobo there's nothing similar.
It would be interesting to read the service manual of 7300 just to understand if the chip and the mobo are predisposed for such a connection although not present.
Internet is full of 7500 service manual... but something for 7300??
I've found this generic adapter, ready to be connected on the equivalent pins on the mobo. The problem is to find the schematics of 7300, just to understand where and if are the sd control pin on the chips (but I guess so).

What Do You Use For Your Mobile Accessories?

I've been thinking of organizing my accessories into some sort of water/shock/dust proof case for easy sorting and accessing. I ran across these:
http://pelican.com/case_category.php?CaseSize=Micro Case%&New=%
http://pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1055CC
http://pelican.com/case_category.php?CaseSize=Small Case%&New=%
But they tend to look at bit industrial for my taste. I've got the usual stuff laying around: SD's SD adapters, Micro SD's, Micro SIM adapters, extra power bricks for Samsung and Apple Mobiles, USB cables, OTG adapter's, an extra MHL adapter, Apple HDMI adapter and so on...
I'd love to see pics of your set up or set ups, if you use ore than one.
I have a desk with a metal tray, upon which I sit my keys, my sunglasses, and my bluetooth headset when I come in. That is all I need.

SD Slot Theory.

Hi guys.Just got my note 3 a few days ago and waiting for my samsung gear.It really pisses me off that the gear does not have bigger internal memory..I`ve been thinking and i will be trying something to fix this problem.
Adding an external sd slot.no soldering on the watch will be involved. The gear can still read usb sticks if you connect them through its special adapter and connect a otg cable. My idea is to add a very slim designed microsd pcb on the botton on the watch or around it and connect the cables with somekind of a magnet to the base.
Then change the mounting points located in vold.fstab from USB to external SD.
So what do you guys think?would this be worth it ?
totally worthless. it will become bulky and fragile. someone better work on bluetooth internet tethering so we can use internet apps on Gear.
i'd prefer to stream my files from my phone, instead having to keep them on Gear.

Click to collapse
I don't believe that the Gear can support OTG as I have a cable and just tried that yesterday, unless you have gotten it to work, then I'm all ears
