Why isn't this phone more popular? - Realme X Guides, News, & Discussion

It has OLED, popup camera, underscreen FP, and the price is amazing
So why is the scene so small? so little ROM support?
Just asking

I'm asking the same questions. I mean, not even the newer XT has it all.
But perhaps because of it got squished by tons of new devices this year, devices that is given more promotion funds thus more the hype.
I just bought this device few days ago. I waited a couple of months so that the price dropped. Got this for basically USD$200

Weird because the XT and X2 are everywhere on youtube, maybe realme stopped production because of costs? that popup camera cant be cheap to make
I was about to buy it but I heard the stock ROM is reaaaaally bad, did realme say if its going to get official android 10?
And again if there was better custom ROM support I would buy this in a second

I hear ya. I'm currently on candyrom and it's very stable, currently my daily driver without any problems, and excellent battery life .. It's just on the first build so there are few wrinkles to be ironed out, realme has handed out devices to developers so expecting a stable solid build soon ?

Make sense. They must be loosing money on this device, thus they ditched the pop up cam and return to the drop.
But for me the stock ROM is rock solid. For the first time, I kept coming back to the stock ROM rather than all of the custom ROMs I've tried. Not that the custom ROMs are bad, it is just I keep on missing features of the stock ROM.
That said, I do wish that more dev would come in and create more and better custom ROMs for this great device.

???
It's been months since device has been handed to developers but still I can't see any great support except lineage os by @SagarMakhar

Mainly, the full-functionality of the stock camera app.
EDIT: Now I'm rocking AospExtended plus the latest GCam mods, so good by ColorOS!

Is it worth it?

So I'm about to change my OPO and I have 2 candidates: OP3 or Z2 Pro.
I'm wondering if the Z2 Pro, in your opinion, will have the same development in the future.
My biggest concern is having a choice if I don't like the stock one.
Do you think CM or other ROMS (Slim, PA, etc) will come for Z2? Or should I just go for the OP3 (which i didn't yet because of high demand 5 weeks shiptime and the camera which seems better on Z2 despite having less MP)?
We have to wait and see how development will be in future. There are some people working in it but nobody knows how it gonna end. Hardware side both units are so close. But OP3 is much better developed and maintained.

Yea, I know. That's why I'm so in doubt. Owning an OPO I know all the development effort put in that phone. Unfortunately there are no other options that I know of with snap 820/6gb ram and between 5/5,5". Even the new Mi5S will be 5.7" in the plus version so that's a no go for me. Same for the LeEco and the Zenphone 3 deluxe.
So my only choices at the moment are getting an OP3 and wait 5 weeks for delivery or take the Z2 pro and hope there will be some development.
God, it's so hard to choose.
Any owner of the Z2 pro can tell me how the stock roms is working? Any bugs? It's a stable phone?

Used ZUI Chinese Rom (Languages only English or Chinese) for awhile before switching to Unofficial CM13. Everything was working fine in ZUI, just didn't really like the UI and everything looks IOS-like, so i changed over to CM13.
Unofficial CM13 is very stable, only noticed two bugs which aren't really major:
-Vibration is not working
-Facebook videos not playing back properly (Not sure if it's an issue on facebook's side or CM13's side)

Vibration for me is not so minor issue. But apart from that, I'm afraid that all the developing can stop out of nowhere (or even worse, never begin) for this phone. Where can I find the CM dev thread?
The phone is awesome,
I am using stock rom with Nova launcher.
Nameless rom is now being developed if that is your kind of thing, I and others have donated to get support for this so I think it should be good, just need to wait for the launch.

The nonplus version has only 64gb rom, dunno about ram (will see tomorrow). Also xiaomi phones don't have the lte band 20 support (800mhz) used in europe (this is a must for me). Add to this the fact that you are pretty much left with MIUI (xiaomi phones don't have much developing). A xiaomi phone isn't more worth than an op3 or z2 in the end. The only thing I like is the double camera, but we have to see how it performs yet.
Also I already own 2 xiaomis and they have some annoying bugs, so I'm more inclined toward something else.
But we will see once they are announced tomorrow.

Still worthing buy the MI 5 in 2017?

Hello everyone!
So MI 6 is about to come in march 2017. I'm currently user of Nexus 5x and looking for a upgrade since the budget is limited, so I'm looking for a economic option.
I found an exchange with unboxed MI 5 with my nexus 5x. Should i buy MI 5 in 2017? Are you still satisfied with it or it should be better take a look for another phone?
Thanks in advance!
never had a phone with such excellent hardware and such poor software.
Every rom i tested had bugs bugs bugs. My cheapest android phone had better and mor stable software than all of the roms for MI5
Next phone will be definetly a hono 8 or somesthing like this
I have the model with 64gb and 3gb of ram, best phone for now. Personally I tell you to buy it, it's a good phone
I have 3gb 64gb version and I love it. I would say go for it:good:
Poor software? How? I didn't like MIUI but there are plenty of custom roms that work very well. For example LineageOS has very few bugs nowadays
If I compare this to my wife's Huawei... I would never change.
So, yes. The phone is still worth buying and custom Roms are developing all the time.
I have suggested this phone to my friends and they are also happy with it.
I bought the 64GB version about a month ago, coming from an Oppo Find 7 and I don't regret it. The hardware and the look and feel are excellent, the software is indeed not perfect, but the bugs are not that bad if you ask me.
I've only used MIUI since I got it, never had a Xiaomi phone before but I tried it on other phones and always kinda liked it. Currently I am on xiaomi.eu 8.1.6.0 and the only bugs worth mentioning that I found are:
- a touch problem, horizontal swipes are often detected as vertical, you have to be very accurate in your gestures, particularly when trying to remove notifications by swiping them.
- the microphone on wired headsets gets muted if you are on a call and you let the screen go to sleep while you talk . The issue doesn't happen when you lock the screen by pressing the button during the call.
Both issues are software-related because they do not occur on custom roms from what I've read.
One more thing is that it feels like the camera is let down by the software a bit. I isn't bad or anything like that, but it could've been better.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
as far as i can see, there are only 3 Roms: native chinese, eu version, CM14, All other Roms are based on CM14. And as far as CM14 has no dual Ringtones, and even Notification Light on missed calls is not working there is no alternative to Miui
Is notification light for missed calls a deal breaker? Oh my... You have big problems.
And there is AOSP?
Of course i'll choose LOS rather than miui. Quickreply is important. Btw imo this phone is still worth to buy in 2017. There maybe still some bugs in current custom roms. But, it's improving for sure from time to time

By "stock rom" do you mean vanilla ? , then why did you get a samsung galaxy device? Specially a note series one? Better get a pixel or something like it, why getting a samsung galaxy note device, to later downgrade it?

I have never understood why people do this.
They want some high end phone first. Then suddenly learn about custom roms and are like i want to flash this now.
Better donate the extra money to devs here instead of spending stupidly.
I'm just adding my sentiment. If you want stock Android, get a Pixel device or Motorola or Nokia or almost anything else. You buy a Samsung device for the features they add. If you don't like or use those features, then don't buy something for $1,000 just to essentially cripple it afterwards.

Lineage 15.1 was released yesterday for the note 8, it is in alpha stage though.
Clean Android not only reduces these devices in terms of function (S Pen, Iris, gestures, etc), but also removes the appeal of Sammy phones. I'm using Pie on my z2 Force, as well as my Pro 3. Whilst both have active development, my N8 is the new king on the hill.
Anyway, it's best to buy another phone like the Moto Z4, Poco F1, Pixel, or Essential for plain Android.

I think that some people are just plain stupid. They don't relise that most of the features of Stock Android come from other android OEM skins. Just because Stock Android is simple doesn't make it better. Even 3rd party Custom OSes don't support the same features on a Note device.

Exactly, you buy a note device for what i gives not what you can mod it into using a custom rom. Root and xposed is an other thing, but custom rom, that too an AOSP ? Completely dumb people out there.
I think it is about choice, not stupidity, like it's said a couple of times here.
Let people do what they want with their phone, like you do.
The thing is i am a university student and thought that i would use the pen.. turned out i didn't use it nor did i use any of the other features..
Second i am not from the US so pixel is not an option unless i would pay around 100 to 200 extra dollar to get it without a warranty.. this goes to the oneplus..
Other thing is the samsung devices are premium with good camera and great displays which is important for me..

You do know that once you install a custom OS on the Note. The camera quality goes down. As custom OSes do not have the same camera optimisation software as the Samsung Stock OS.

Of course yo would, that is the point, once you install a stock android,, the camera will no longer be driven by the samsung software, exactly what iceepyon told you, the samsung hardware is specifically constructed to work efficiently with samsung firmwares
Wow
A person asks about a custom vanilla rom, and look at some of the answers. So glad to live in 2019 when XDA posts are turned into youtube comments on taylor swift videos.
People are not "dumb or stupid" if they're looking for customization options on XDA. They're maybe "wrong" in some cases. Just tell them why.
To answer your question:
These days there are too many flagships and midrange phones out there. Also The oems use different hardwares and barely release their source codes and drivers. Plus, stock roms are way more feature rich and fluid than before. For all these reasons the development of vanilla based roms is limited and less reasonable for most phones. Except pixel phones and Android one phones. Even there, all different roms are lineage-based and basically the same, with same features and same bugs! But different visuall traits!
There is a Lineage os for note 8.0 but in very early stages. About other custom roms (stock based), they do a great job in terms of features and removing so called bloatwares, but personally I recommend you staying on stock because unlike few years ago, stock roms get you better performance, features, battery life, etc. I'm currently using pixel 2 and note 8 and trust me, you get bored by plain android!

Custom ROM/Developer?

Hi guys! Just want to ask regarding custom ROM developer for our device as I noticed that there is only one developer that is working as of now. And based on his thread his not willing to work with anyone.
My question is any chance that there for other developer to work on our device? Coming from my previous device(mia1) lineage is well supported, little bit worried plus this is also my first time using miui and I'm not impressed. But hardware is top notch plus no moving parts ,this is a good device.
This question is just query without any demand to anyone. Thank you.
I'm using Pixel Experience GSI bro, and straight up not having a good time, but still better than miui (it's my personal taste). At this point, consider how this device had been out, i dont think we see any official roms any time soon
Unfortunately, the smartphone doesn't get the attention it deserves. But hope dies last.

I'm also working on a rom for the device. There sure is a steep learning curve. At the moment, building roms that are based on Android 10 are quite a pain due to the fact that Xiaomi has not released the Android Q kernel source for pyxis. They're still on Pie.

General I am starting to hate this phone now for one reason!

No custom ROMs. Stupid Xiaomi please release the source and kernel. We are past 4 months and nothing till now. Oneplus 9 pro on the other hand released 5 days before this phone and I see 10+ custom roms in the forum already. Such a great phone with so much user reach and xiaomi doesnt care about software. Only people from China are getting updates every 3 weeks or so (iam not talking about xiaomi.eu rom). Completely neglected Global rom and India rom.
Issue with this company is: It releases 10+ phones in the same price range with different hardware every 6 months and forgets about software completely. If you cant update the software, release the source and kernel for developers atleast!
Agreed

How do sales compare to s21u or the one plus 9 pro ?
I think the global variant is overpriced tbh.... especially for a Xiaomi phone
Apple can get away with ridiculous prices and even Samsung to some degree but Xiaomi doesn't ring synonymous with prestige flagship grade experience
They're the cheap and cheerful brand...

Unbelievable how ignorant (not to say different word) you should be to buy a phone than wait and hope for a custom rom (even though nobody on planet earth promised one).Than you go online and trashtalk the company, the phone and so on,only reason being your own wrong choice.
This is pure stupidity at its best.

Not sure why you get personal here.
I always had phones using a clean and functional OS. I knew that the asian customers prefer it more colorful and I expected exactly this. But what Xiaomi delivers with MIUI is a slap for everyone not deepdiving into their software beforehand.
Why is a compass app installed systemwise? Yes you can disable it and even uninstall it via adb. Why can't you hide apps in the drawer? Lets say I dislike their contacts app and want to use another one, I then have to have both on the drawer without the ability to hide theirs (yes, you can hide some non-system apps behind the app-lock). Why does Onehanded Mode not work with gestures? Why do they force you to wait for 7 days before you can unlock the bootloader and why do you need a sim-card in the phone for this and give them your number?
The "cleaner" app does nothing but spying, even worse that such software doesn't even (ever) work on Linux based OS. Not mentioning the "security" app that is another piece of scam software they integrated some system relevant services into while on the other hand, blocking essential android services and thus create a lot of issues non-existant on other devices.
If you ask me, MIUI as a whole is nothing but a scam. Google sniffing apps can at least be disabled, no chance for the Xiaomi ones.

So well do you mean 'if you need a phone with custom rom, just buy it after custom roms are released for that phone'?

Here's the reality, there really isn't that much demand for custom roms. However, there are two that I know of, Xiaomi.eu and MIUI MIX. ONE OS may also have one, but I am not sure on that though. And even though you do need kernel info, you can't expect them to release the proprietary info regarding the rear screen and other features. So even if a rom could be made, there are many things that the developers would not be able to make work. For example, the Mi 10 Pro went the greater part of a year before one started to see custom roms for it. Custom roms, back in the day, were updated regularly and in some cases nightly. Now the original rom and security update can be several months old and it might also be several months before a new version appears. In my opinion, it's really not worth it nowadays and the most of the devs seem to have found that out too.
As for their marketing, I too feel they release to many phones, but apparently it's working as they have become number one in the world.
