On screen notification, work around needed - Realme X2 Pro Questions & Answers

Dears,
I'm a new owner of a brand new x2 pro, everything's fine so far, but there's just a thing that hassles me and it's the missing notification LED.
I'd like to use one of these workaround apps designed for super Amoled screen but so far, can't find any properly working on my x2 pro.
Tried with AOE (always on edge) but it seems to work randomically... All I need is an app which, in case of screen turned off and with an incoming notification (e.g., a WhatsApp message), automatically switches on a notification effect on screen which should continue blinking until I read the notification itself.
Basically, something that recalls the good old rgb led on phones of some years ago... Is there anything which you tested on Realme phones and it's 100% working?
Thanks a lot

Try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xander.android.notifybuddy

Yeah, notifyBuddy did the job
I'd love to have a bit more chance on the notification type (only pulsing spot is available here) but hey, it's from a developer from XDA devs
Edit : nevermind, it doesn't work in a stable way. Most of the times notifications are ignored.

anyone knows if this working https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe

NotifyBuddy works perfectly fine on mine!
You will have to exclude it from power saving.

On my X2Pro, notifyBuddy works 1 time out of 4 notification, approximately. I guess it's due to the lockscreen as I disabled any battery optimization for the app.
On the other side, AoE works even worse... Still waiting for a solution for notifications.

Ambient display is useless

I found that ambient display is useless.
I was thinking that whenever I got notification, the ambient display will lit the screen and then OFF ... then lit ... then OFF.
You know, kind of asking attention.
It is NOT.
It lit ONCE, then OFF forever, until I pick up the phone (of course).
The problem with this, if I leave the phone on my desk for quite long, I won't know if there was notification arrived, unless I pick up the phone.
So, what's the use of this ambient display?
Damn, LED notification would be much useful!

So you can either see the notification come in first time when it lights up. Or you can quickly pick the phone up to see if there are any notifications without it fully waking up.
LED is easier though!
I prefer they don't lit it on and off constantly because it is distracting when you are in a meeting and it drains your battery. Though having an option would be nice
Yeah, I agree it is a useless battery wasting feature (though the impact to battery is minimal). Thankfully the LED can be enabled with Light Flow even though that is flawed as well since the app will randomly get killed and the light won't work.
Ambient Display would be perfect if it flashed continuously until you check it and if it worked in priority mode, which it doesn't if you have priority mode set up like the old silent mode. If you don't want your phone making noise or vibrating but still need to see notifications it is pretty worthless.
you are dead on sir.

I was told Google is moving away from using led notification, but yet they designed a phone? with one built in but totally useless at this point. Hopefully the next update will address this.
Mine flashes continually until I check things... Every ten seconds or so. It is wonderful... Not sure what is up with your guys' one time notifications...
ambient display is alrite.... It doesn't work that well though. It does not consistently work when you pick up the phone. I would much rather have them activate the LED since it's already there.

I'm setting this gripe in many circles outside of xda hopefully they will address it in the next update. Lots of corporate people want that portion which was always a part of android and even non android phones of the past.

in all fairness, Moto made the phone, whether for Android Silver or whatever other reason, it wasnt designed ground up with Google or originally planned as a Nexus.
I like ambient. Works great for me. and being an Amoled display, only the pixels being used light up, so battery is minimal
users report otherwise.

Does the device wake up from deep sleep for it? If yes it sure does suck a lot of battery. Especially if it is supposed to flash up in intervals to remind you of the notification.

I just tested it... it flashes up every 30 seconds or so. As soon as as you click on it the screen is on without any delay. So I guess it screws your battery hard by making it wake up each time? It would mean that as soon as you have a notification your device would wake up every 30 seconds.
I can't get Lightflow to work at all. Do you need a kernel that has LED support?

I am just using the regular ambient feature built into the stock rom. I am encrypted, rooted with stock kernel on stock 5.0.1. I have not messed with any AOSP roms .

Rooted and use root access for the LED activated in Lightflow.
Lightflow screws up ambient tough. It constantly flashes as if it has an notification, even if it only shows the clock. This WILL kill your battery in my opinion...
Led notification will drain batttery fast?
Via my NeXus™ 7FHD on XDA Premium app
I actually like it more than Active Display. Active was much more sensitive to movements which for really annoying.

I don't know what settings you set to make it do that.
Light Flow doesn't do that here. Cooperates fine with Ambient.
I know there are people (Lightflow Dev) who are working on getting the built-in led working, and I think that's great. I wonder if there are any devs working on making Ambient Display more useful...? I'm going to shut off the Ambient Display today and mess around with an app I used to use on the Galaxy S called NoLed. It puts dots or icons on the screen and could notify me of anything... might be the ticket here.

Use of the G Watch R button

I'm hoping in future developments/releases we may see some changes with the touch screen/button behaviour. Perhaps this may only come through Kernel Dev or an app (maybe). The issue I have found since owning the watch is accidental activation of the touch screen when on the move, especially when exercising (rain and/or jacket cuffs).
Would love to see touch the screen activated with a press of the button, not the screen itself. This would almost eliminate accidental presses, and inherently reduce battery consumption.
Perhaps I'm the only one with this problem? Interested to hear what other LG watch R users think?
Theater mode?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
That works well, of course for my exercise app I do have to swipe a couple of times after pressing the button to get to the detail, but this is a good workaround. Thanks
isn't theater mode turning off notifications also?

That's correct and its far from perfect, but at least it stops the accidental touches.
What would be great is screen touch ability after button activation, thus creating a child lock (irrespective of screen on or off) and allowing notifications. Cinema just goes a little too far and turns the screen off which renders quick viewing useless.
I'm hoping in the future this smart watch will be a little smarter.
When I am working out, I never feel/notice notification vibrations.
I usually have on a headset and set the phone to normal volume profile. So I hear the notifications.
With "Vibration Notifier" you still have vibration for notification from app selected. Screen not light up but watch vibrate even in Theater mode.

TBH I didn't get on well with the app, a nice idea but even with the customisations it got in the way of the watches quick open/view/close plus points.
regarding feedback - I didn't hear anything back, perhaps I will check for updates in the future.
I love the watch but I do feel Android Wear has been rushed.

[NonRoot] - Double-Tap to wake-up

Hi devs!
Since i have this phone iam searching the function for double-tap to wake-up feature.
Esp, cause the previous models had this feature.
I've been through a few launchers and a few apps, but it seems with a fingerprint-sensor this feature has become unavailable?
Any people here managed to double-tap to wake-up their device?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry to say but that incredibly useful feature is missing from the XZ1c. It's not just a software thing, I believe it's missing at a hardware level. So either the screen is different or the kernel doesn't support it.
Wave up is a way of opening and closing the screen and has had some good reviews from XDA members.
Thanks for your reply.
Let's see if i can get used to this and finetune it a little.

Double tap to wake likely needs lower level support that isn't possible with a mere app.
BTW, I've been using the Wave Up app for months, did not notice any battery drain.
I personally love the wake screen after removing from pocket feature, it works like a charm and so handy to have. I now wonder how I lived for so long without it.
Also, you don't need to actually wave your whole hand, just flick a finger 2 or 3 times over the sensor area and boom. Although I'd still prefer DTTW, it's a great compromise.

Yeah, I saw WaveUp recommended on XDA too and used it after trying and disliking Gravity Screen. It's been fantastic, and I actually don't notice a lot of battery drain from it either. I sometimes end up double-tapping the proximity sensor. That generally works pretty well. Sometimes even better than waving.
Just a little update about WaveUp.
Definitely, a must have for XZ1 Compact owners. ?????????????????. After a few days of testing I can confirm it has almost zero impact to battery (I can't notice any difference, in fact it doesnt even shown on Setting's Battery usage) but once u use it... U can't stay without it anymore!
I really i don't understand why Sony didn't include this functionality out of the box...
I am using Gravity Screen to wake my phone using the proximity sensor, but I noticed it keeps the sensor ON all the time even when the phone is locked. I think this is what WaveUp do as well. I'm kind of concerned with the sensor being awake all the time that it might affect the lifespan of the sensor and get damaged fast. I hope SONY put back that double tap to wake.

They do it on purpose, they always take something away and then put it back in the next model. But the next model will miss a different detail, and so on ...

Issues encountered so far

Hi,
I am seriously considering returning this. Its so nearly great but my unit is suffering from the following:
1. Stuck on Android 8 and Feb update. See seperate thread.
2. Touch screen touch sensitivity has some real issues. Scrolling around will occasionally "jump" or reverse direction briefly. I see this a lot on cheaper Android devices.
3. The default notification sound is a ringtone that goes on for 20 seconds approx. I have to change this for every type of notification for every app.. Its maddening.
4. Camera is... meh. Good for the price, but a long way off the top tier.
5. Auto brightness isnt good. Changes too fast, too often. Its all over the place.
UPDATE! 6. Developer Options seem totally broken. Settings dont persist or they do and the UI doesn't remember selections. What a mess.
NOTE - there are lots of positives, but these are well covered elsewhere.
All in all... this feels like any other cheap-ish Android phone. Needs updates, and dont kid yourself that this is the bargain of the century. Its good value, but its clear where compromises have been made.
Lot of bluetooth issues with 8.1. Sound is lagging when paired to my Sony WH-1000XM2. Other devices might loose connection after a while and needing to be re-paired.

For 3, I may have solved this myself - there is a default notification sound option which can be changed from the 20 (approx) seconds ringtone. I changed this and still got 1 of the long notifications, but the rest were normal.
As for 2), hopefully this is a software issue. The touch panel has a firmware version which is why I am so keen to get the 8.1 update (as it *may* have a newer version?) as mine is stuck on older software.
I have problems over several apps:

- Camera Zoom in Instagram, Snapchat and Whatsapp sometimes works and sometimes not.

I just checked your first 3 issues, I don't have any of them. I didn't notice any glitches with the camera either yet, but I haven't tested it that much. Only thing is the lag when switching between recent apps, Playstore works fine though. Maybe try and clear the cache of the apps you have problems with? Or maybe you didn't update them?

i just found out that my instagram audio is not working when i have my phone in vibration mode instead of ringing mode, although media volume is on max.
As soon as i change into ringing mode the sound in my instastories is working! Should be a software bug, but not sure if from instagram or nokia.
EDIT: are you able to do a smooth zooming in snapchat or only "1 step"? Because after reinstalling the app i was able to fully zoom in, exactly how i am used to it. Afterwards i started the stock camera app tapped the x2 button to zoom in. Then when i went back to snapchat i was only able to zoom "1 step" like i would press the x2 button in the camera app, instead of a continuous zoom.
My volume key temporary disabled after use instagram or some local apps. Uninstall TalkBack help me this. You guys who had trouble with sound should try.
I can agree to some of these issues.
The most annoying by far is the auto brightness. Sometimes when I unlock the phone it turns the brightness all the way down, even when I'm outside. Makes the screen all but unreadable. More interesting is that it makes the adjustment even though the auto-adjustment is turned off.
The bluetooth sound is choppy sometimes.
No complaints on the screen or the camera from me.

I'm in the UK, just the received the phone and am also stuck with the 8.0 + Feb security patch. It's saying I'm up to date.
Also, is anyone else's system storage taking up 14GB? Should it be that big? It's already using 22% before I've even installed an app. Tried a factory reset and same thing.

Flickering dot under display in notification area

Hi all,
Been quite a few years since I posted anything here!
I have just received my pixel 5 and have noticed that dead center of the notification tray when in portrait, there is a flickering dot, especially in low light it flickers white or if not flickering leaves a faint grey dot over whatever is on the screen (stays in the same place even if I rotate the phone or watch a video)
If I reboot I can't see it for a minute or so until it then appears.
Factory reset doesn't solve it.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm thinking it might be the ambient light sensor under the display but it is really irritating, possibly mine is faulty?
Cheers!
It's the underscreen proximity sensor.
I get that it is the proximity sensor but, It is flashing constantly - I spoke to google and they said that it should only show when in a call - it is flashing even while watching YouTube - does anyone else get this same behaviour?
Not showing on mine
I have it constantly when KinScreen is running, I saw someone having it with cpuz
I hadn't noticed until I saw this thread. I did wonder where the proximity sensor was. It's only visible when on a phone call for me.
Is the light sensor under the screen also? You can usually see that on a lot of devices when you tilt the screen slightly.

You probably have some apps using it. Possibly something like Tasker that happened to have proximity sensor based profiles configured, etc.
Mine went mental during Google Play downloading all my apps on initial phone setup. Then it went out and I've not seen it since.

It's a software bug. I read about it on reddit and twitter yesterday. Did you move your data from your old phone using the cable?
To fix it you should factory reset, then migrate your old data using WiFi, not cable, don't restore or restore your apps manually (at least until you make sure it's fixed).
If that still doesn't work, check if you have an app called HomeAssistant (HASSIO) installed. There's one report of that causing it. To fix that you need to disable the proximity sensor on the assistant app itself.
Sources: here, here, and here.
I got the same Problem after installing notifybuddy. There must be some Bug where the sensor gets started the moment an overlay is shown. I can reproduce the Bug over and over again. Install notifybuddy and Start the App give all permissions and than Pull down notificationscenter (its an overlay). To solve the Problem, uninstall notification Apps That are using overlays.
Mine is working fine. Only during a call or listening to voice messages.

Hit the nail on the head there!
It was the Home assistant app causing it (even though it had installed after restoring from my backup, I had never opened it yet since having this phone). Uninstalled home assistant and it has stopped flashing!

Go to the gestures options (don't know exactly where the specific one is located, it could also be at the Digital Wellbeing settings) and disable the Flip to Shh one. See if that helps.

Have this issue on my one too...which is the home assistant app? Deleted the "Home" but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem.

The Home assistant is a 3rd party home automation app that I had previously installed - if you don't use it, I'd check for any other apps you have installed for something that might be using the proximity sensor.
Couldn't find that was causing the issue. After a restart it would be fine but once unlocked and apps started loading it would go crazy. Went through all my apps but couldn't find the cause so just reset my phone. Hopefully it doesn't show up again.
Seems to.be software issue so hopefully google will do something about it

It really shouldn't matter if something is using the proximity sensor. It shouldn't ever be visible.

That's incorrect. A quick Google search for "S20 proximity sensor blinking" will yield results that show otherwise. Maybe go to YouTube instead as there's quite a few videos there on it. The Samsung subreddit has an influx of posts, it seems, for almost every device they've released over the past couple of years because folks aren't used to seeing it. It's visible under the display on my S20 Ultra and I had it on my S10 plus also.
Now of course there's bugs where it's blinking on the Pixel 5 when it shouldn't, but is it supposed to be visible when an app is using it legitimately? Yes.
Edit: It just dawned on me that YouTube vids wouldn't be the best example of this because they use cameras to video the proximity detector. Everything else stands though. Google searches and Samsung subreddits are ripe with examples though.

If what you are saying is true then why can't you see the sensor flashing on any phone when in a phone call or when the "Flip To Shhh" feature is enabled with just your eyes?
And if that is true about the Pixel 5 then there will be no way to use the "Flip To Shhh" feature without always seeing the sensor flashing which I can do with my Pixel 2 XL.
Here is a video of my Pixel 2 XL taken with the camera on my tablet. You can see that the tablet picks up the flickering sensor when "Flip To Shhh" but the sensor goes off when I turn the feature off. That's because the feature uses the proximity sensor to work. However, the flickering is ONLY picked up by the camera on my other device. I can't see it with just my eyes looking at the phone even though the sensor is active.
