APN settings on Sprint G8 - LG G8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just got my LG G8 Sprint (unlocked supposedly) in Ireland the other day from a US Ebay seller.
The SIM card from my provider will only work on GSM..... I cannot get the phone onto the data network.
My provider gave me the correct APN setting but when I get to the network settings there is no option to change the APN settings.
I now have a G8 that can only make calls and send texts!!
Help!

The phone is unlocked right? For me everything was working on pie, but now on the Android 10 beta I can't send pictures anymore. Try to go into this menu: *#546368#*820# you cannot edit apns directly but it will at least try to auto populate according to your network. Just click through the menu somewhere and you'll find it.

Yeah, it's showing up on one of the menu screens that it's sim unlocked and Sprint are on Twitter confirmed this.

At the moment the phone is nothing more than a $400 paper weight!!
The Ebay seller is not to keen on taking it back.

I tried that code but nothing happened.
I think I need to find a developer in Ireland capable of flashing a different ROM onto it.
Even the UK...... I'd be willing to post the phone to whoever could do it.

No one can. I guess you could try finding an official LG repair shop and asking them to do it, but it's unlikely

So it's a GSM brick or an expensive carry camera.
It can't be flashed by the developer community??

[Q] Has anyone manage to connect to metro pcs gsm?

I figured I would try asking. I get edge data and calls are working. No 4G though and I havent tried MMS yet. I called metro's tech support for their apn settings and they don't seem to work.
If you have your ATT Note 3 working on Metro's gsm service, please share your settings/experience here. Any ideas on how to get this working would also be great. Thanks in advance! :good:
I bought two Note 3s and gave one to my friend who's on metro. Everything works perfect for him, 4g, MMS and everything else.
He Input his APN settings so I'm not sure if he did anything else. When I get off work in the morning I'll ask him if he did anything specific besides the APN settings and let you know.

This may be a dumb question but did you switch your network mode to LTE/WCDMA/GSM option?

Yeah, I have tried LTE/GSM auto; LTE/GSM/CDMA auto; and a few different other ones. I always only end up with edge.
I have a question for you, did you buy the phone and stick your sim card in, or did you actually go to the Metro store and have them program the sim for the phone? Metro's sim cards work different than most gsm carrier sim cards =/

I went to an actual metro pcs store and bought the sim. The employee scanned the bar code on the back of my phone, so I'm guessing they programmed it specifically for my phone.
Ok so called my friend today. He told me that he didn't input the APN settings, they loaded automatically. It did make an APN profile for him. He sent me the following screenshots.

How are you suppose to know what the password is and the server as they are just **** in the screen shot?

No go on the apn settings. I am planning on driving out to LA sometime later this week and will check out whether this lack of LTE is only in my area. Sucks coming from metro's great cdma service.
Also quickvic has a good point about the password, although I'm thinking tyiphius friend's apn settings were installed automatically
Anyone know where I can buy a N900A note 3 that will work on Metro LTE?

Hotspot No Root

Can anyone confirm if the method for the Sprint Galaxy Note 4 works on the Sprint Galaxy Note 5? Or if another non-root method works.

A non-root method would be getting the Tmobile one with hotspot built right in

Anyone find a working wifi tether for T-Mobile? Trying to avoid the throttling for hotspot.

Also trying above methods to get hotspot working are not working on the Sprint 64gb Note 5. Pdanet+ connects via wifi with limited internet access and changing the apn requires no msl # but doesn't seem to change anything since there is not hotspot/tethering option in settings
Edit: confirmed hotspot working 8/22/2015 sprint 64gb note 5 if you are missing hotspot setting in settings do a factory reset
I have two SPRINT Note 5 32GB. I can confirm that the first post works. I did sprint CSR online chat and without any questions was given the MSL for both phones (separate chats). With that I was easily able to follow directions and get Wifi Hotspot on both phones working. Now I need to work on a shortcut app or if possible get the factory hotspot toggles in the menu.
I was able to enter view mode after ##3282# and edit apn settings without need of msl on 64gb note 5
Is there a way to create a shortcut in the quicksettings for the hotspot?

I'm not sure how "VIEW" mode let you "EDIT" and make changes. I sure as hell unable to make any changes in "view" mode. Fore me its like normal. If you go to view everything is grayed out and nothing can be changed. If you go to EDIT it asks for a MSL. But as said that was easy to get.
Anyone tried this on T-Mobile? If so is it eating into tethering data?

If you don't get the answer you need here (as its really new) check the Note 4 forum. This is nothing new or different from previous phones. If the Note 4 (or others) on T-mobile was good you'll be the same on the Note 5. It just enables the stock tethering.

Yes but if they find out phones that have view and edit mode universal and find out that "dun" enables unlimited hotspot they could patch it but i really think that was just supposed to be known to the service provider workers or samsung themselves? Could i have possibly gotten a developer version of the device by accident? If i do an imei check my model comes up G900 Galaxy S 5 WTF!

Sprint Calling Plus?

So is it just me or does the Sprint Note 9 not offer calling plus? Which SUPER sucks considering th S9/S9+ offered it right out the box
*EDIT* I found a way to activate it!!!!!!!!!!!
1 - Download Shortcut Master (LITE)
2 - Open it and click "Search" under the menu and searched for enhancedlte
3 - Clock the option that pops up *should say "Mobile Networks com.samsung.blahblahblah.EnhancedLteServices)
4 - Check the box for "Enhanced LTE Services"
5 - Search for LTEFunctionality
6 - Click on the top option
7 - Scroll down to VoLTE Test UI and click it
8 - Turn on N/W PS voice support and N/W PS E911 support
That's it. No root needed. Actually found this method for the international Note 8 but it works for the note 9 too. The original post is here:
https://community.sprint.com/t5/Sam...om-samsung-work-on-sprint/td-p/975749/page/14
I'd be interested to see how many people can stand to use that feature for more than a couple of days. In my experience, it makes every call hard to hear, fading in and out, and then multiple calls are missed per day.
OP, u got the unlocked USA version?
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
Calling plus? Call quality is fine to me. And long as its sprint to sprint you get HD calling. I never miss calls with calling plus either. Now, Google voice on the other hand i miss calls all the time. No call, no notification until i open the app but i love calling plus

Have you been able to add new apn yet? I am having the same issue on my lg v40. I bought it from ebay and using abroad like you. Its sprint unlocked. I can call and send text but I can't use the mobile data. If you have fixed the problem already please let me know. It will be greatly appreciated.
Pretty sure this is a long-time known issue with Sprint devices. That function is disabled.
+1 to what grabber said. Sprint is a scumbag company, and even though they let you unlock the phone, they disable the APN settings in the firmware so you can't actually use data on other networks. I had the same problem a long time ago with an unlocked G5. Previous firmwares allowed it (I've heard), but by the time I tried, they started the disabled APN settings shenanigans.

I have been able to find a work around for my sprint lg v40. In my case if I turn on mobile data, it will be turned on. But I can't browse any site. I noticed one thing though I can use messenger and whatsapp for text chat only. Then I figured out its a problem with DNS in APN settings. As the APN settings is disabled I installed an app from store to change the DNS. This app will create a VPN profile for you just to change DNS. Now its working fine. Though I have to keep using the DNS changer all time. App I am using to change DNS is 1.1.1.1 .
I have had my lesson with Sprint. If I ever have to pick between Sprint and other carriers, I will stay 100 miles away from this scumbag.

The watch or the phone? Either way they have to add the IMEI into their system, plan on going to a store

Probably best ask this question on the Watch 3 forum:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/samsung-galaxy-watch-3
.
im on tmo and use the LTE frontier. i also have the lte watch 3 coming but thats on 9/09.
i did answer you over at the watch forum, but seems the imei is not yet in the system since the watch is not officially released. maybe wait until friday or monday to give it time?
also you may have to "Reset mobile networks" once you get them to provision the watch on the network. I had to do this when i changed the number on my watch a few months ago.

So do I need to call sprint after the imei is in the system to get a watch plan and separate # for it?

I don't have the watch 3 yet, but with my GAW2, all I did was go to the Galaxy Wear app ->Mobile Networks and took it from there, then once that was done, had Sprint (then it was just sprint) set up the line for it, a separate line. You have to have VoLTE active in your area though. I have set up three watches: OG GW, GAW2, and Apple Watch 5, pretty seemlessly. YMMV.

Idk. I only callled sprint when there was no VoLTE to find out why couldn't use as standalone, Once VoLTE was released, I have not had to call them. If this is our first watch setup, you may have to call to initially set it up.

like i mentioned the device is not in the system yet. wait until the official launch day.
I bought mine from Samsung.com as well. I called T-Mobile to have it activated and added to my plan. They set the new watch up under the DIGITS plan and for some reason it was not properly setup correctly as I had to call back and speak to someone on the DIGITS team to get the LTE features of the watch to work.
